the Philadelphia Eagles coming off a tough loss last week against the Dallas Cowboys are four and two in the Eastern Division of the NFC and they need a win tonight to stay within one of the Dallas Cowboy the team that they feel there are the equal to but they will not meet again until December the 4th meanwhile the Houston Oilers are off to a horrendous site they come in a one-in-five tonight struggling everywhere you look there are rumors of dissension within the locker room there have been bickering going on they have lost the one man who apparently can run the run-and-shoot defense they traded him I speaking of course of Warren Moon but this is a team that is starting to get healthy in various positions Alan if Philadelphia is going to look past Houston tonight they may find themselves in trouble with like a wounded animal this team is desperate right now last time we saw the others you know Frank three weeks ago they were dreadful on a Monday night and the best thing they may have going for them tonight is peer pressure they know most every other player the National Football League sits at home and watches Monday Night Football and they don't want to be embarrassed again now the problem is at the moment they're just not a very good football team defensively they've been playing okay but offensively they have been terrible at least they get Cody Carlson back to nine he hasn't played in three weeks because of me and shoulder injuries and they do get their top running back Gary Brown back in the lineup as well he's missed a month with a twisted ankle but Jack Pardee their head coach said last night the key to our win is our offensive line they have to protect Carlson and block for Brown tonight they go against the Philadelphia Eagles and while you still look horrible the last time we saw them on a Monday night the Eagles look terrific in week two here against Chicago Dan and now I think the key there is here because boy 2 the Eagles love to play at their home the vet they have a winning streak of 18 consecutive regular game wins here at the vet one Randall Cunningham is the starting quarterback also on Monday night they have won eight consecutive Monday night games here at home this goes all the way back to the Carter Administration now on the heels of that it sounds a little strange to say that a third to extend those streaks Randall Cunningham is going to have to bounce back he had a really poor game last week down in Dallas at 24 to 13 loss four interceptions and a fumble now Randall talk in our open about the veered out of control slammed into a concrete wall he's lucky to be alive yet he suffered major knee injury late today authorities said alcohol was not involved here we fell asleep at the wheel Peter from a football standpoint how serious is this for the Cowboys Eric Williams has two partially torn right knee ligaments now the Cowboys are gonna let him rehab these injuries and try to get him on the field by the end of the season they think within four to six weeks of rehab he might be able to play if that doesn't happen they will lose the best offensive tackle and football for the rest of the year you know last week at this time I was saying to you who is Gus Farhat I guess we all found out the seventh round draft choice out of Tulsa forced into the starting lineup for the Washington Redskins how'd he do they were behind 14 3 2 Indianapolis he rallied them 17 of 32 for 226 yards and two touchdowns in the 41 to 27 victory for the skins earlier today I said Gus how'd you calm those nerves in the early going well I was pretty nervous the first series we went out in the field you know got in the huddle I don't know I might have called that play so fast nobody heard me but we got there on the spectrum of ownership you have Jerry Jones on one end who's involved in every detail maybe Lamar Hunt of Cain's are sitting on the other end who says to Carl Peterson and Marty Schottenheimer you guys run it where are you what about a scouting report a self scouting report where are you on that spectrum I would say very involved but I believe very strongly that the best sports organizations have the best people working for them and you got to trust your professionals I believe very strongly in that that's how the Celtics were built with Red Auerbach and that's that's how I feel to sports around on strike baseball and hockey now you bought this team for a hundred eighty five million dollars the most money ever paid for a professional sports franchise I'm sure you did your due diligence what is this franchise worth though without a salary cap in place through 1999 well I think I was a very fair price that I paid NFL football is the most popular form of entertainment in America and the avenues to distribute it worldwide all the different possible revenue sources in this league are just phenomenal and so what's happened is she got a game that the fans love small market teams can compete evenly with big market teams and it's incredibly popular form of entertainment without a salary cap on fixed costs with this team have been worth a lot less no not at all I think the collective bargaining agreement helps players and owners and will you know find our way through it it's I think it's gonna be worth a lot more in the future sometimes owners eventually like to bring their own people and how about the job that rich ecotype is done what's your assessment of Richards got a fine job Ritchie's done a terrific job in the past he's had a lot of don't improve in that statistic volunteers to play quarterback well one of the big things in sacks is also who's the quarterback and when you've had three different quarterbacks playing like the Oilers have had they've been on that rotation with Richardson Carlson and Tolliver master this offense you're going to get sacked too a few centimeters and and pushes is looking forward and should happen it does first time I think they able to extrapolate 28 sacks to six games to about 74 sacks there's not a whole lot of quarterback could have survived that over a season like that extrapolate extrapolate the hynek's tonight however that's gonna hurt the extrapolation it's it with well I think that's pain that the Oilers are willing to go through that bold extrapolation [Applause] maybe
