hello hello it's late night live with kim anisha indeed uh we're kind of having a slumber party over here girls not except for baby beckett who's in bed because uh dr barry has flown the coupe floating the coop yeah he is in austin texas tonight and he'll be there until sunday i think so right yeah so he's doing a meetup a meet-up m-e-a-t-u-p meet-up meet yeah with goodie beats and several other people are going to be there too so we thought we would kind of just come and hang out with you guys and chat uh depending on where you are it's almost nine o'clock at night or it may be a normal time like kim is from california so it would only be seven seven yeah so it's not that late in some parts in some parts of the world although i don't know it feels i i have lost all sense of time in space it's yeah but i think we've been doing so many things well the captions are already turned on yeah i don't know if that's nice i probably shouldn't have closed out of that but i get confused when there's two screens where do i know at the same time i don't know what to do with my hands i don't because i lean this way that no it's the opposite way anyway yeah so if you're watching that that's stream yard thing so it is what it is how often can we have bone broth a day it depends how much bone breath you have in part you can pretty much have as much as you want if that's if it's working for you yeah if you want to and it's quality bone broth you know not all bone broth are created equal right but good quality bone broth is delicious and good for you and you know in terms of like it does have it's an incomplete protein but it has good stuff like good things for your gut lining good things for your body good things for your hair and your nails um i don't i really wouldn't consider it a meal if you're just drinking some bone broth i think it's fine um i think yeah go ahead and sip on it and if you start to notice negative repercussions and then don't yeah there's nothing dangerous about bone broth it's pretty i have to i don't right that doesn't work on my back it is kind of big i don't know why i didn't do them hey holly thank you for the super chat bare bones bone broth is that a brand do you know about that brand i'm not familiar with it it sounds good if it's basically bones and water then that's great jennifer i have an olaplex question is it going to help with hair falling out if it strengthens it it doesn't help with it not falling out that starts from within mostly it's going to help strengthen the hair that you have and keep it from breaking um but to keep your hair from falling out that's that's usually either a hormone thing or a dietary thing so you have anything about the hair comment well i think that for me like i have hypothyroidism from way back and my hair is really thin like nisha and i joke about this situation um but uh she has like twice as much hair as normal i have half um but uh i definitely have noticed a huge difference being carnivore not carnivore hello being keto yeah um and and really working on my nutrient density and then what really helped is just upping my protein significantly yes when i first started keto and i was sort of lower protein my hair was not improved in any way um but once i started upping the protein even dr bear is like you have more hair than you used to yeah she said she had the virus so that seems like probably a stressful short term it'll be it'll come back it'll come back oh well this is a good question gina you should ask this any advice or resources for someone who's just getting started well nisha and i get asked this question so much that we actually decided to put together a little program for new people so it'll be we we actually haven't decided when it'll be ready but soon soon yeah so we just have to do some editing yeah we've got most of the things we just have to like put them together we should probably set a goal a deadline yeah i work best with deadlines i have no idea oh you don't you don't think that's okay i think so i'll say kim's in maybe dr barry is messaging me from austin texas how do i use oh wait thoughts on raw honey and raw milk so i think they're both good ancestrally appropriate foods in the appropriate doses in the appropriately healthy person yeah raw milk i would lean more towards being pro than raw honey just because raw milk has a lot of nutrients in it where honey is basically just like sweet sugar yeah yeah but you know if you're somebody who's metabolically healthy you have a good insulin response if you were using a very small amount of honey to sweeten things on an occasional basis you might tolerate that just fine however if you're a very insulin resistant person and you're using a lot of honey on a regular basis that's probably inappropriate so it's really dependent yeah i don't tend to say go for the honey i don't really use honey but i'm just there's a there's a place potentially there's a small percentage of people who can get away with it and use it responsibly cherie says how do i use element into my diet do you drink it daily or use it for fasting any other ways you may utilize it so we just drink it daily uh you can definitely use it while fasting although element i don't know do they do so you would need to use the unflavored if you're doing a true fast other ways you can utilize it is we have been using it yeah like pixie stix and also i had a avocado and i put the chili mango oh yeah element on there and that was pretty delicious i could see you could do almost a soup thing with that yeah you can use them in recipes because element has a wide variety they have the chocolate salt now which i put in my coffee which is very nice nice little treat when christmas time comes you can make a hot chocolate with the like almond milk or water and heavy cream and the chocolate sauce um i drink probably two two a day sometimes three at least two yeah i find my life has been made better but like i don't feel terrible when i don't supplement so i always thought i was getting enough and then i started adding a lot more and i was like oh that's much better mm-hmm uh the website you can find local keto doctors so dietdoctor.com i think is pretty much the best resource when it comes to the most numbers yeah so they have a place on i can't tell you where to find it exactly do you know is there dietdoctor.com and then just there's a link just look at their website it's it's in their free section like they have some things behind a paywall but they're that finding a doctor is free so it's like if you google dr keto doctor directory i think that's what they call it something like that so that should it should it should be fairly easy to find question for kim on keto calculator macros and tracking add black chronometer and the cg m she says she messaged you okay well um so i am in the process of redoing my macro video because my old macro video i actually don't 100 agree with anymore so i'm redoing that um but i don't ha use a calculator so much as a mental thing depending on your goals um my favorite tracking app is chronometer for sure and i like cgms and i'm sorry if i don't didn't respond to your was it an email i'll go look for it if i didn't get back to you sheldon eating fast food burgers is that healthy i think that healthy is kind of like a vague it could be health promoting yeah i think that on the whole it's a good option if you are in the position where you are out you have kids you're a mom you're busy you're on the go and that's your best option i think that that is fine for you to run through and get for burger patties kelly hogan is a beautiful healthy individual and for a very long time she ate mostly hamburger patties from mcdonald's and her labs are good she's lost over 100 pounds she feels fantastic she has cleaned it up lately she eats more like real meat now but she still eats those i mean if you i think if you have a crazy busy schedule and you're really pressed for time and there's a mcdonald's nearby and you ran through and you got burgers it might be the better of many options is it what you should be doing every single day probably not probably not but also like you know it's real life right people sometimes have to pick the best option and you can look like if you look up the what is in how you know what's in a mcdonald's hamburger is 100 beef they add some beef and salt and that's it and then i think similar there are a few different burger places and it's just beef and salt um there are going to be potentially some places where it's not just beef and salt so you want to make sure you know about that and depending on what oil they're cooking them in right those kind of things but honestly that's any restaurant that's not just fast food any food that is cooked in a restaurant is probably going to be cooked with things you don't want it to yeah that's i think barbecue is a little safer because you know right they might they may but they may still put oil barbecue sauce too and like there's always if you're eating grilled like outside of your house it's always minefield high risk that there's gonna be an ingredient that isn't super super clean keto but that's that's we live in a world where that's the reality so you know we just have to make the best choice and that's why most of us who do keto and or have been doing this for a long time we don't even go out to eat much anymore unless we just happen to be traveling hungry yeah and we're doing another thing like i've eaten out more in the past two weeks than i've eaten now in the past six months because i was on the go doing things and i was freaking hungry so you know you gotta do the best you can yolanda wants to know how did you make the pina colada drink yesterday we uh did you post your opinion no i didn't so i think people think that it was something fancy oh yeah well red men's uh who makes the salt that we talk about all the time they also make electrolytes and they make several flavors and one of their new flavors is pina colada and it's still just electrolytes and it's sweetened with is it stevia yeah but it tastes like a legitimate pina colada and kim put coconut milk so i had some coconut milk so i still did it's literally i will show you it it's powder yeah it's salt magnesium and potassium flavors and stevia and it's it's very it's very nice so we literally water pina colada mix and some ice and then uh yeah i did a splash of coconut milk to see what that was like so i was like oh i wonder what that'd be like it was very tasty but it was also equally good just with water yeah i'm drinking this i'm drinking right now there's a cat falling off of something loki the crazy cat uh vilma said i purchased the pina colada it is delicious amber just got her pinky color and i cannot get the pina colada song out of my head this week is yeah yeah just a second and i got blooney and bones for bone broth and they have a lot of good and they they actually have ground meat that's ground with liver so if you're somebody that wants to get liver into your diet and i think heart and liver maybe they have these blends and mixing liver into ground meat i think is the best way to not taste liver in your ground in your meat meatloaf too which is essentially ground very true um the heart is mostly muscle which is why it tastes better right than left it kind of is a very muscular taste [Music] gene says doing keto but how do you get rid of sugar cravings i would say that there are sort of two schools of thought um on that for some people the best way and the only way they can get rid of sugar cravings is just to stop eating anything sweet or sweetened get it out of your system get it out of your system every time you think you want a a sweet thing eat a pickle or a piece of bacon yeah go in the other direction yeah now for other people they find that actually they can have a little bit of sweet stuff kind of feeds what their looking cat is playing with a redness a red salt bottle rolling across the table um and they can have a little bit of that stuff sorry the cat landed on a pad of paper flipped off yeah if you're having sugar cravings i i think that you probably fall into the category that you just need abstain right until you get a handle on things maybe maybe one day you'll be able to be a moderator but it sounds like you need to have steam for a bit yeah yeah i think that's good advice our chicken gizzard's okay absolutely what a gizzard is oh you've never had them never chicken i've heard of gizzard but if you know how to cook them they're very tasty if you do them wrong they can end up being like a piece of rubber so but yes they're great any organ me is going to be good what is it called what's the fancy word for it awful awful awful i thought somebody should write a cookbook about it called awfully good awfully good hello loki you can try it again loki is back on the table what a nut he is a nut loki is a nutso zoom kitty yup yes yes all right gt is kombucha okay for keto and he gives the gt energy brand generally speaking most gts that i've looked at they they have added back like some fruit juice or something and so the carbs are pretty high for what i would consider a beverage for keto uh the lowest i think i've seen is like six or seven grams and that's only for like half a bottle yeah um so i would say that unless there's a flavor i haven't seen that has lower sugar than that i would be cautious there is a brand of what's it called water kefir out there and there's one flavor which is lemon you can find it at like you know all the health food stores and i'm trying to remember the brand if i remember the brand i'll give it to to nisha got the thing um and it's water kefir and it's um it's lemon ginger and it's only like um it's only like one gram of carbs and so that's a better option for kind of that or not lemon juice lemon lemon cayenne lemon cayenne not black oh that sounds good and it's uh and so that's a better option but if you find a kombucha and you look at the label and for what you would drink for a serving it's only one to two grams of total carbs i would say that seems perfectly reasonable but when you're at like 14 grams of carbs for the whole bottle that you drink that's probably inappropriate yeah andrea made homemade mayo with avocado oil didn't like the flavor light flavor so most light flavored olive oils are not really olive oil yeah that's the point they're the if it's real olive oil it's going to taste like olive oil i will give you another option what is that option nisha bear bacon grease mayo very tasty um very simple to make if you do it properly so you can go watch the youtube video of me and dr barry doing this but i would like to redo it because it's just us failing for about 15 minutes before we get it right now how does it work with a bacon grease mayo like when you put it in the fridge does it get real hard it doesn't stay soft soft and salt it's about the right texture it's about the right texture okay because i was thinking with the bacon grease it might firm up too much in the fridge well i guess if you put too much bacon grease in it yeah okay so it's got a lot of egg yolk yeah it's got like eggs it's the same essentially the same you just use bacon grease instead of avocado oil or olive oil very very tasty but i also struggled i will tell you andrew quite a bit with liking mayo homemade mayo because i like i mean hellmann's and you know best boots was my favorite but um you can you can make it um taste better if you add things to it like spices so if you want to make if you if you're like wanting to make the avocado oil mayo more palatable chop up some garlic chop up some scallions like give it put some spices in there it'll change that sort of flavor primal kitchen does have a mayo it's okay i don't like protein i mean i'm just going to be i like the aioli much better than the flavored ones and then what the chipotle mayo that one is actually really bad see what i mean if you add spices it changes people don't think about doing that because it's not a traditional thing to do in mayonnaise but it is very good um hey chelsea she's a member hey chelsea you can be members now on youtube which oh hey really cool and so basically you get early access and you get this cool little symbol beside your name right here so there's like a little spinny there's a few videos on my channel right out to my chelsea all right uh yeah angela nisha your southern is showing because duke's mayonnaise is okay dukes is and i can tell you as a west coaster it's not such a thing that we have it there but it's not such a thing there the marketing was very directed to the south berry's people get very mad when i tell them it's not good oil in dukes i was upset yeah they could get me but i i knew it was coming but i was like bad yes but when you start making your own it's like no it's fine heather i love chicken salad but always have liked to use the crunch of tortilla chips it's not unusual chicken salad that is unusual but you know what you can do is you can if you get chicken thighs you can pull the skin off bake the skin make chips get them good and crispy and then crumble those up and then you get extra fat extra protein and it's essentially kind of free and it's a clean crunch factor what tortilla chip substitution do you think um well for the crunch i agree that doing some some some uh chicken skin chips people are interested in this membership thing okay just touch on that um other things that you can be crunchy i mean i don't know if you're carnivore or not but quite honestly i've always put celery in my chicken salad because it's really crunchy and it doesn't have a lot of carbs doesn't have a lot of flavor i don't like chicken that's i mean celery i love you um but you could also do i'm quite honestly there's think about let's think about some other things that are very crunchy cucumber bacon jicama i do put bacon in mine i get it super super super crispy and i added in like either on top or at the very last minute we're grinding serving it i am so they get soggy grinds i don't know but yeah i would probably they would get it kind of get soggy but yeah i would say um their look for things that will be crunchy that are not chips yeah uh so the membership is on youtube so if you go to my youtube channel like the home page where all of my videos are there's a button that says join and you click that and then it'll like tell you what to do jicama uh do you think jicama is a good option yeah i mentioned jicama i think you did i did yeah it's a little on the higher carb compared to many other things but you're you'll have like 90 chicken salad and like a little bit of jicama in there for crunch it's definitely gonna gonna work with whips yeah you can make your own wisps too she's crisp fairly easy yes i am still coughing it's just it's like allergies it is allergies it's my sinuses this right here has been it's been insane i do feel much better but i still have a cough and i still don't feel 100 but much better kohlrabi oh yeah kohlrabi is one of my favorite vegetables again a little higher carb but it is very tasty kohlrabi puree is amazing peppers and salad not really a whole lot of crunch but they are very tasty a little bit banana peppers no okay me and kim were just discussing are we hungry are we like are we not hungry am i hungry or do i think i should be hungry now i'm hungry okay now you're hungry okay we just have to go on either every time i go out earlier today we were recording a podcast and i was like now i'm hungry while we're recording i get triggered i don't know is it's like my body wakes up and it's like we talk about food and i just anyways i heard i said banana peppers and i have fresh banana peppers in my garden oh and your garden yes but i also have pickled ones in here and that's probably i'm gonna put those on the side of my steak uh danny asked about miracle noodles i love miracle noodles have you ever had my hair i don't think so either they don't seem like you would like them but i love them are they slimy they're not slimy but they're a little rubbery but if you soak them i i always say don't think of them like like italian noodles think of them like ramen you know how ramen can be a little chewy it's like that yeah i used to eat ramen without cooking it yeah okay but not that not like not quite like that a nice little oh rhonda mentions pecans in your chicken salad yes that's kind of i think that may be a southern thing too we always put nuts and things that you don't really need why not and apples and crepes and pretty much don't use grapes just throw it all in there they're little strippers yeah don't do that i'm not suggesting that i'm saying that's yeah b rose any help advice for leg cramps at night taking electrolytes and drinking pickle juice what else can i do well i know dr b has always warned if you always get your cramp in the same spot to you probably need to check in with your doctor because there can actually be a fairly rare thing that can happen which is you have essentially a clot going on and it's causing that crampy feeling and you need to get that looked because that can be dangerous once you rule that out as in like 90 of the 99 percent of the cases it is ruled out but if it's like all over in both legs then it's less likely to be that right and um you uh probably just need more electrolytes i'll tell you what after i had beckett i was very dehydrated because labor and like i don't know all the freaking things right and i kept having leg cramps i mean insane leg cramps and one night i got up because usually i'll just take some electrolytes quickly and after about five minutes they would kick in and help i accidentally grabbed the trace minerals from ketochow which have electrolytes but they also have minerals in them and i squirted them in my mouth i thought they were the electrolytes that is a strong flavor you got there i was like oh dear god but i'm telling you but within 30 seconds that leg cramp was gone and now i swear by them because they may be disgusting but those jokers work they are they're very gross so a couple of things for came up somebody said they used uh tonic water by the way there's just so what it is is there's quinine in tonic water regular tonic water is full of sugar so don't use that but zevia like makes a tonic water there are some diatonic waters however there's hardly any quinine in tonic water so mostly if you drink tonic water for cramps and it works it's mostly the placebo although placebos totally work um but yellow mustard is actually true there's a quinine mimic in yellow mustard it's not the same but it does scent to help a little some people do a little yellow mustard in the mouth it helps with cramps kind of just depends what your camp is caused by but for the most part more electrolytes are the thing can you eat peanut butter you can eat whatever you want but peanut butter is not one of those things that is a great option if you're trying to optimize your health for many reasons um one there's just usually a lot of mold and there's usually a lot of sugar and peanuts aren't even really nuts there are looms and what what am i missing well i think the main thing i mean there are there are issues so kind of think about it there's the health side and then there's just the kirby situation side right and on the health side a lot of people are sensitive to peanuts not everybody but a lot of people and then there is the fact that like there are peanuts that are will get moldy and you'll never know because they you know they're blended up now and you can't tell and so then so that's questionable and then on the other side carbs add up super fast and a lot of people have a lot of trouble controlling themselves around peanut butter and if you actually measure it in a flat tablespoon is not much peanut butter you can have for like a good seven grams of total carbs it's like a teeny weeny amount so i think kind of across the board peanut butter is a struggle that being said there are plenty of people that include some peanut butter and do really well if you're asking for if i my opinion my opinion is peanut butter is not keto but if i say that then somebody's go going to be in the comments well so and so said that it was and she has he has seven recipes with peanut butter and they're amazing and i didn't get kicked out of ketosis so that's why we say you can eat whatever you want but whether or not whether or not that makes your keto journey longer and stronger or you fell off the wagon and it didn't work for you and all those things you know i have i have moved from saying something's not keto to something is possibly not a great keto choice yes and i definitely put peanut butter on the list of things that i don't think is probably your best bet yeah i've gotten a lot of crap about saying that over the years because i've always said peanut butter's not keto always and but if you buy any keto cookbook i guarantee you there is a peanut butter fat bomb recipe in there more than anything i hear from so many people like if i have what is that if i have open peanut butter in the house i hear this from a lot of people it'll be gone really fast and that's risky what about dry roasted peanuts similar it's peanuts it's just brown peanuts yeah peanut peanut butter same thing jelly is worse true that is a true thing yeah exactly jelly is worth it you know when we get on that we can just keep on going keep going crack is worse as well then either yeah we're gonna just keep going do you add butter to your rib eye i love it but i'm getting but am i getting too much fat well we discussed that all the time all the time i cook my steak and bacon grease which is just another type of fat so you could say i cook it in butter and i do just fine with that now kim on the other hand i as somebody who uh does not cook their rib eye in butter i actually have tried like i've been at people's houses where they serve me rib eye with butter or like a butter sauce or something like that keto people right right and i'm like oh i actually like just i like an unadulterated ribeye i like the taste of the ribeye itself and i want it with lots of salt but i don't and maybe some seasoning but i actually find i love butter but i find it sort of a distraction if you love it and you are seeing results eat your buttery ribeye and don't worry about it if you're getting what you want from this keto and eating the ribeye with the butter don't get off in the weeds focus on you and yourself if what you're doing is working great if what you're doing is not working make a plan that looks a little different than what you're doing now try that does that work better brian he must be watching my vlogs brian what flavor cookie should i try so beckett berry calls pork rhymes cookies he calls a lot of things cookies that are not cookies and i think he can pick up with his fingers he's calling a cookie right now i think it's the package and then something had a hole in it he called it a doughnut yeah i don't know he's very funny i don't know where he's getting these truths donut well you know he watches these shows so he knows things are shaped and what they are he's never seen a real one so he's like this doesn't know that it looks like kind of like a donut uh so what flavor cookies brian pork porking good king good oh those flavors they have amazing flavors um my favorite was the dill pickle what's your favorite i don't know that i've tried the dill pickle so that might be there but the one of the ones i've tried i actually really i really like the butter but it was pretty subtle it's very subtle i wish it was more yeah um but i was like oh i could see this being i could eat more of them because the flavor was a little subtle um but i really like the sour cream and onion those are good too they reminded me of those that it's got that very specific sour cream onion dill pickle and the sour cream were a tie for me so yeah whichever one of those you used to like then get the pork rind version of that yeah and but i will say give you a heads up that the um pork king good ground pork rind they make a panko like it's ground pork rinds that you can use for breading things salty af i will say it is so it is almost too salty to use so i really prefer pork pankos ground and by the way pork pan the company that makes pork panko is called bacon's air and they also make flavored pork rinds that don't have crap in them so both of those are like they have a rosemary one that's kind of nice uh heather said phil likes the stupid hot i didn't even try the stupid hot because i i know i cannot handle stupid hot anything that says stupid hot i'm like someone else like this yes it's a no-go i may be stupid but i don't like susan yeah the salt and vinegar yes i think those actually those were my favorite the dill pickle i liked but it needed more dill pickle if it had had more it would have been my favorite but the salt cutter was yeah that's good oh white cheddar is amazing a lot of you had tried apparently pork but those pork and good ones were delicious yeah they're very and they do they sell the seasoning as well yes although i was like what am i gonna put this on i'm just gonna eat the pork rinds well back in the day when i ate nuts all the time i would have like roasted some nuts and baking i do everything in baker's and bacon grease in my skillet and then put that seasoning on top and then ate them like a popcorn type of thing because i am just over pork rinds honestly uh salt and vinegar gray liz my nurse practitioner's keto and she takes salt tablets what do you think it could be easier than electrolytes i think that's fine if you don't like the taste of salt and you don't like the taste of electrolyte beverages um redmond's has some i'm sure other brands have them too but at least you know you're getting a good quality salt if you get the redmonds yeah we can hardly pay attention either somebody said the kitty's so cute we're like mostly because he's landing on her head i'm going to put the name of the not for no josh [Laughter] working good and i think maybe king might be this like it might be too working is it okay it's something like that it's something like that if you google porking good you know something will come up yeah is solely water good sole water is really just concentrated salt in water and it makes me want to vomit personally i have a problem with it but if you like it and you use good salt to make it it's good i can like lick salt off of my hand in large quantities and then drink water yeah but i can't drink salt water no me neither is disgusting i feel like i'm at the i'm drowning in the ocean like yeah not a thing it's not a good thing for me hi michelle nisha i've been craving sweet things i've and i've had a little chocolate of late i'm not sure what kicked off craving normally i'm really good please help um that could be a lot of things the way to get through it is uh if you are gonna eat something sweet stick to a keto type sweet treat and try to try to maybe increase your salt sometimes it's we're not getting enough salt and that causes us to crave what else here's a tip i learned get some hundred percent chocolate like you're not really craving chocolate some completely unsweetened chocolate and every time you think you want to reach first and they're actually brand like don't get baking chocolate that i don't know that's really bitter but they're actually like very fancy just a hundred percent chocolate out there or 99 is uh i think uh ghirardelli makes a 99 and when you think you want chocolate have a little piece of that and you will not probably want any more and it might take care of the desire yeah i don't like so solid water yeah um is carb cycling okay so let's discuss cycling so these are hot topics tonight it's fun we should do this at night more often but i'm hardly ever here oh lindsay can i do it anyway oh that's true i don't have to be here in person no um that's what i meant victoria thank you victor i meant lint actually lint does have a 100 it also has a 99 and they're like they're pretty they're tasty in my opinion but you have to be a hardcore chocolate person to like them um carbs is carb back to carb cycling so carb cycling carb cycling for those of you don't know can look like a ton of different things but in essence it just means that at some point either once a month once a week whatever probably not once a day um you're adding carbs back into your diet versus your normally ketogenic lifestyle a lot of people um who uh do carb cycling would say on the in the period that you raise your carbs you're also lowering your fat kind of as a balancing act i would say the only people i don't know that carb cycling is necessary for anyone i certainly don't think it's a good idea for someone who is still significantly insulin resistant um i don't think it's maybe a good idea for anyone but it's an especially bad idea for those people uh and so my question would be what do you think you're getting so whenever i have a question like should i do this or not i always want to be really clear on what do i think i'm trying to get out of doing this right and if you know what you're trying to get out of doing it then it's helpful in terms of should i do this or should i not do this right so sometimes when we look at these really broad topics in keto like should i do this or should i not do this um it's helpful to understand the reasoning of why we think it might be a good idea and then we can evaluate it against that if we just have this big blanket should we should i eat grapes i don't know like well why do i think i why do i think that would be helpful yeah i i don't carb cycle and i don't think it's necessary so that's my answer yeah and some athletes will do it and there might be some reasons to like hardcore athletes not like i went to the gym today right right right hey crystal there should be like a memberships tab and there's some videos of me and kim that aren't public so if you want to check those out later you now have access to those [Music] all right do you really think those few drinks are keeping me from losing weight what few drinks few drinks a month or few drinks a night and honestly yes either way it could be yeah unless it's a few a year then probably not but yeah yeah so um when you have alcohol in your system it takes priority over fat burning and so your body has to metabolize that alcohol before it metabolizes fat including your body fat so they will hold you back sarah uh some keto people think carb cycling helps you if you want to yeah i do i do know some of these people who discuss this there's no science there is no science to back that up if you are having issues with your cycle what kind of issues you're having if you want to try that carb cycling um you will do that and you can try it as an experiment i don't see the reason for it annie says i don't carb cycle but someone told me that your pancreas become lazy if you don't eat carbs so yes for about two days and then you eat carbs for two days and your pancreas is back at it so it's not a permanent pancreas laziness what it really is is that transition your pancreas is like i might as well take some time off because we're not being i mean not really like you're you're always pumping out insulin you never don't pump out insulin or you'll die but it's like it turns the dial down because it's like it gets used to how many carbs you're eating just like when you eat a lot of carbs it's pumping out a lot of insulin because it's used to that when you go down in the carbs and you've been doing that for a long time and your body is just we never need very much it is true that for one to three days of going if you suddenly go from 20 grams of carbs a day to 200 grams of carbs your body will be confused for a few days but within three days everyone is making as much insulin as i need to make up for that so it's not a thing it's just it's just it's just a a adaptation that is very quickly reversed denise is a member oh he's responding i think it's dumb too there's no need for that that uh bile right so it kind of looks like still because you don't need to pump out any bile um it's it becomes sludgy right stuff builds up in there so i don't know that i call it lazy then either i think these people are i don't these people who are these people who are talking about these things don't sound like my people yeah i don't i don't know that i would listen himalayan salt then it's it's it's good too we just redmond's is from a well you see that has been untouched by any bad things and it's not got the micro plastics in it and it's it's a very pure clean form of salt which happens to uh have trace minerals in it too so here's my issue with pink himalayan salt um i think when people that i know have looked into it uh the problem with pink himalayan salt is it's it's just pink himalayan salt it's very easy just to color salt pink and call it pink himalayan salt there's a lot of counterfeit pink handle it's all whereas redmond's we know where it comes from i've been there it's trustable it's a name brand sorry just the problem with it is you're not quite sure what you're getting unless you do know unless you're like this is pink then yeah and then it's fine but there's a lot of pink salt on the shelf and redmond's is made in america so that's true shop local for your salt it's just better to have less travel for your salt better feed less red men's is fantastic tastes better than any other salt yeah i did i think so too i will say when i first started eating red means i was very the it has minerals in it and so sometimes i can kind of taste like sand and so at first it was like what is this gritty stuff it's minerals then you get used to it you don't even notice it anymore um hey heather hi i think she's going to be there hey hi i did lick the walls i did salt you did i think everyone likes the walls i like that so if you're buying salt you may have no they put it through a process you may get uh so yeah uh miss linda said pink internet right we forget sometimes oh right doctor science yeah how does bmi figure into figuring out your macros it does not at all because bmi is not use very helpful i would say it would be much better to know your lean body mass so what your body fat percentages that is helpful and dr says do a waist to height ratio yeah you can do that whoops jasminka just minka does going in and out of ketosis harm your body not really but there is some data that shows that if you're trying to lose body fat this comes out of the keto bible by dr jason lowry jason not jason lower was his first name ryan ryan um that if you do essentially cyclical keto so this is for the carb cycling question people too that um they've compared two groups of people one group of people went in and out of ketosis every week and another group stayed in ketosis all week they lost similar amounts of weight so you would think they were equally successful but when they compared the body compositions of the two different groups the uh cyclical people or the people that were in and out and in and out in out in out were spending very little time in ketosis and actually lost quite a bit of muscle mass compared to body fat so it is there are some there there are some potential dangers i don't think that's as true if your weight stable so if you're if you're not gaining and losing weight during or rather yeah if you're not losing weight during that time it's less risky but it it is a little risky in that way yeah i have put the website it's obviously the longest website on that man but i'm assuming if you what about almonds and almond butter what's your favorite butter i don't use butter i never have but i'm not using butter nut butter yeah i know i love butter but i yeah i've never used nut butters because i don't like any of them which ones do you like uh i i like all of them but i don't use much of them very often for me i'm not really allowed to eat nuts in the mountains she can't that i would but i don't even like them anyway so it's no problem but most of the time i do not use nut butters because the carbs add up too fast and the calories add up too fast and it's just it's a lot and so i yeah it's generally speaking and then i also get a weird thing when i eat too many nuts i don't get those nut butters when i eat too many nuts i just don't feel well and so i try not to do them too often i would say though you know occasionally i will use some nut butters what have i used um if i was gonna do another little nut butter pecan butter is really really good but the peacock cashews just get so carby so so many carbs so many it's like twice as many carbs as other nuts because they're not really not but to be clear i love nuts i don't like nut butters but i have to stay away from both uh-huh which one are you looking at i was looking at mix i was just trying to figure out what he was saying or she i only use being modified my ideal way so i could figure out my target protein one gram i mean that's reasonable ish but you could also just there are a variety of ways to do it the reason i don't like bmi so bmi is body max index and it's just a comparison of your height to your weight and if you're very muscular it doesn't it's not right it only works for pretty not muscular people welcome victoria and dawn and don't look at you this member i didn't even i mean this is cool that's not why i went yeah i mean thank you how much sodium do you need on keto that's a good question so the average human seems to need about five grams of sodium that's average which means you might be a little lower or you might be a little higher but you could try that and see how that goes noreen what do you do to just maintain and not lose eating keto or hubby lost 50 something and needs to just maintain gone from 2 20 to 160 something in 10 months well done um for most people just eating intuitively eat more and making sure that you're eating plenty and getting your protein like you don't really need to change a whole lot just make sure that you're eating well and uh for men i feel like that would probably be easier for women where did we get complicated but what do you think they need to eat more well usually speaking if you are losing weight when you don't want to be losing weight a good way to stop losing so much weight is to increase the amount of food you're eating to help you lose less weight themselves to eat more food yeah i would say um so there is a way we get maybe get used to eating a small amount and so there might be maybe a couple of days you're like oh this is a lot of food um and but you might get over that but generally speaking i would say you can especially eat more fat like add more fat to your food that tends to add more calories right it's gonna it's gonna probably help um that being said sometimes like nisha is a little person i keep talking about this today right like nisha nisha's natural weight that her body wants to be like it probably if you ask nisha she might even choose a slightly higher weight but yeah misha's body just is happy in a certain weight range and maybe your hubby is going to be happy at 155 instead of 160 and when he gets there his body will settle down most i think it's all hair yep i think the majority of what you weigh is like it's just like here like i can't do anything with it were recording a um a podcast about that today which was basically like is very confusing out there um i would say the first thing i would say is stick to listening to people who make you feel calmer and clearer if you're listening to someone who confuses you they may have good information but it's probably not good information for you right now you you need it simple the good news is keto is a long stretch and you can always add more details as you go but start simple and by simple we mean count total carbs keep your total carbs under 20 total carbs and get enough fat get enough protein and start start there so uh there's macro calculators out there that can help you with the protein and fat ratios but i do one-to-one fat and that works really good i think that's a great way to start for most people absolutely one-to-one which means your grams are they don't have to be exactly the same but like you're around about the same and then but keep your carbs under 20 total grams count all the carbs i don't care like when you somebody's going to get mad i don't even care at this point like i'm always pissing somebody off i don't care if it is a carb from an egg a carb from coffee a carb from sugar alcohol a carb from anything in the beginning count all the carbs just do it because and just just just do it now you might find that your curb tolerance is more than 20 yes and that is i literally i don't know how many i was watching a video from way back just to like see how stupid i was honestly i wasn't as stupid as i thought i still pretty stupid i was friends with you back then you weren't that i wasn't that stupid but i was like i'm not doing this to lose weight i just feel off i'm really really sick no because i got to thinking i was like did i make that up did i at any point say that i did this to lose weight no no i didn't because i didn't do this to lose weight like i don't give a crap about being skinny in fact i wish i looked like a curse she would like more booty more booty more boobs more i just wanna this is not it for me but you know my body's treating me good i'm happy like i don't care that much but if i was doing keto for a certain body so this is like the opposite but did you have such a pretty face yeah i didn't say i was ugly um and just so people know it i just suddenly occurred to me i didn't say people on here so since i started keto i've lost 90 pounds and yeah yeah so for me i'm definitely somebody that went keto to try and lose weight and we just have different bodies sometimes exactly we're all on our own path man what do you do if you just feel like nachos well coming from the nacho queen over here i have nachos a lot but here's what i do all right i just do a nacho bowl and i don't use any chip alternatives i'd season my meat with good seasonings i make my own taco seasoning it's not hard it's like chili powder cumin garlic salt what else do i use that's pretty much it onions onions to the mix yeah and i i let it i had just like a i cook it in bacon grease i know surprise surprise and then i put like a splash of water in there and i let it simmer so the seasonings get in there and you know blah blah blah blah and pour it in a bowl and then you can throw on your toppings if you like you know keto friendly toppings so like some tomatoes a few slices of avocado some sour cream like oh that's keto friendly especially if you're new and you're not like getting into the weeds about night shades okay um and then also if you would need the crunch some people use pork rinds right but i don't recommend doing them the way we used to do nachos like don't lay the pork rinds out and then put stuff on top they'll get stuck yeah they can make a dip use it as a chip now egg life wraps if you do them correctly they can also turn into a chip same thing do not pour the nachos on top of them put them separate and then use them to dip carnivore crisps also you can utilize those as a dipping mechanism if that i just eat mine with a fork but that's the way i like it you can also i know it sounds weird but uh peeled cucumbers if you just want a crunchy thing too that's what dr berry used to do i just don't some people are not cucumber people i'm just that's not what i want like that's like telling me to make zucchini noodles in the beginning i was like that doesn't taste like pasta stop telling me that awful egg life yes i will say that somebody just asked like that they're also stalled and i'm gonna say just i'm gonna put a blanket statement out there anyone who has stalled for more and by the way when i say stalled that's like over six seven weeks at least more like maybe three months um before then it's just maybe your body resetting a little bit do a reverse diet what is a reverse diet go look at my channels and look for reverse diets i need to do a video about that i have done videos and and podcasts about it it's basically a time period at which you take your focus off of fat loss and you work on eating more and fixing some of the other things you start lifting weights more you start working on your sleep you start maybe working on your stress levels it's like a health regain period where you also work on increasing your metabolic rate a bit and you take your focus you don't you're like i'm not trying to lose weight right now you take your focus off that take your focus off getting healthier on to getting healthier and you eat more significantly more in a very controlled fashion you don't go from eating like 1500 calories like 2 000 overnight it's like 15 15 50 15 75. it's just very slowly working your way up and um doing that for a period of time i think is a great idea for most people think of it as practicing maintenance right you're practicing just not trying to lose body fat for a while and you're also working on lifestyle things absolutely things that are going to help you get more movement in lift heavier weights practice feeling better um and then you can re-engage with fat loss it's just i'm not saying give up on fat loss but you need a break go watch kim's video watch my videos it's very important it's very important and she can't cover all that in like five minutes now go watch the video yeah but it's it's it was a game changer for me and it really it allowed me to lose 30 pounds last year in 2020 in 2020 while i was at home with all the food let me tell you i did not do well in 2020 at least the first half of 2020 then i kind of was like i gotta get out of this this is too much tanya unicorn um cool on keto is it okay to not eat if you're not hungry if you're not meeting your macro so under eating but uh you're not hungry so is it okay to under eat if you're just not hungry there are gonna be differing opinions on this one i think yeah i think if you're consistently doing that every single day then that could be a problem but if you're just like i'm having a day and i'm not that hungry any given day no problem yeah but if you're consistently like eating low calorie low protein loaf and you're not getting anything that could end up being a real problem yeah you agree i a hundred percent thousand percent agree um somebody wanted my last name but it's it's in the description it is in the description but it is howard howe erton um uh i totally agree it especially the protein macro that is a big deal to be cons consistently under that i heard dog in the back um and and generally speaking if you're just like constantly eating low calorie low calorie low calorie it's just bad news bears so but any given day or even two days or even like just this week i'm not very hungry yeah no biggie yeah sometimes during my cycle right before right after i have just a time where i'm just like nothing just sounds good i don't want to eat anything and i don't really eat as much as i normally do but then like the next week i make up for starving yeah and so it kind of averages out a little bit yeah all right victoria says i'm worried about that too started total carnivore and my calories are much lower but i'm not very hungry i'm not hungry enough to eat more uh protein for some people is extremely satiating yeah so if you're going carnivore maybe you need to make up that fat because fat is worth more calories and then you're essentially eating more but not you're not forcing yourself to eat more so like adding fat to the on top of your steak or eating fattier cuts or um or maybe going to eating three times a day for a while and seeing if that allows you to get more food in yeah get up and make you two eggs and a few slices of bacon like if you can't eat that then come on who doesn't want some bacon in the morning also you might try altering your food sources like some people like can only eat three eggs but they could eat like a pound of hamburger right and so it's like okay if this fills me up too fast switch it over to something else yeah that's so so true i can look at a steak sometimes and be like i can't eat that but if you said some chicken wings in front of me i'm like yeah diana asked about protein gold how do you know what your protein goal should be so i would say that for most people a great protein goal is an easy way to do it is to uh look at what your ideal weight would be or what your goal target weight would be and then eat that amount of grams of protein so if you're somebody who's like my height you know it would be somewhere between 150 and 160 pounds um and then i would eat try to eat 150 to 160 grams not pounds of um protein that's not grams of meat but grams of protein macros from mostly meat um and so i think that's a good goal for most people yeah i think that you can get away with eating a little bit less than that or a little bit more than that but kind of aim for that yeah michael sam hello betty and veronica which one's betty maybe no you're wait betty's the blonde yeah you don't need all this one i think people think i'm the saucy one really you're the saucy one i've had to watch i'm a basic betty that's exactly what i am i don't know we're probably we're all okay verona betty yeah we're a little bit of everything yeah all rolled into one that was inappropriate amy altering recipes helps with increasing food consumption i can only eat three fried eggs but i can down six whole deviled eggs yeah yes and so can i deviled eggs it seems like a snack so you're like i'll just have one more i'll just have one more before you know it you're like oh my god i'm eating a lot of eggs brenda says speak to me installed so i've done stalled things but maybe on tuesday so on tuesday i do my lives on tuesday evenings at 5 00 p.m pacific time so on my channels on tuesday i will talk all about being stalled awesome hey terry dr barry is in texas right now are you going to the meet up in austin if you're not in austin then you know texas is live outside of austin though texas are oh yes texas is one of those places like oh will you go here and it's like i live five hours away texas is so big it's completely different tennessee's the same way because it's long yeah it's like when people say oh do you go to la a lot and i'm like it is a seven hour drive so that's a no yeah uh charity does eating bacon increase your risk of stomach cancer so there were some epidemiological studies that have been done over time and the problem is like i don't want to say like all epidemiological studies are garbage but here's the problem they don't control for the right variables when they do epidemiological studies so generally speaking if we think about before we were a keto and you asked people is bacon a health healthy food yeah people would say not really so then you would say are you somebody that eats a lot of bacon um the people that don't pay a lot of attention to their health are the ones that say yes because the people that pay a lot of attention to their health aren't eating aren't eating bacon as much because they think bacon is unhealthy right does that make sense too i have an identity of somebody that's healthy so i'm not going to eat as much bacon and so unhealthy habits tend to go together like people smoking not exercising drinking and so when they then look at people and they're like oh if they answered yes to i do you eat a lot of bacon they also tended to drink smoke not exercise so those people tended to get more stomach cancer yeah so there's no real science to say this here's what we know okay staying away from over processed sugary grainy bad seedles those things definitely are probably going to make you more prone to developing cancer so if you are afraid of bacon that's not necessary you don't have to eat bacon a big keto but there's nothing truly out there that's like don't eat bacon because you're you know lj hey girl is it okay to take metamucil while on ketovor i love you both had thyroid cancer and menopause and this way of eating has helped me tremendously i'm glad to hear you're having success uh metamucil are you taking that because you're constipated or you feel like you're constipated i guess yeah it would be about the reason yeah uh if that is the reason i would go for metamucil i would go for a mag magnesium uh or increasing your fat sometimes will help you go so enough sodium totally helps rachel i'm afraid of running out of bacon that is a valid fear these days it's not a fear in this household because when i open that fridge there is a lot of bacon here's a pile of bacon yeah terry we eat beef bacon and cook the and beef bacon grease so we love beef bacon i mean i made some this week yeah we make a trip to nashville every so often to a butcher that has to be faking and we buy an embarrassing amount of bee bacon but it's a man okay maybe that's yeah ah we we had some bacon and then i'll show you i don't know if you'll be able to see this do you have that picture on here yes i do okay so me and kim are working on this recipe it's kim's recipe that i decided i want but you added you said you wanted to add some things then i decided i wanted to josh up okay and this is what it looks like can you see that so this is better broccoli and cheese version of this bread this bread does not have almond flour in it it is uh not made from egg whites it is high in fat and high in protein and it is freaking delicious uh at some point we will have this recipe posted and written up today it's not that day okay i'm sorry just i'm teasing you with it let me just say so i had two slices of that which sounds like she had two slices of bread it is almost all protein and fat it's essentially a meal and what the carbs come from is the broccoli it's the broccoli and there's a little teeny bit of coconut flour right to kind of help it stick together yeah but it's mostly mate eggs and cheese and a little broccoli so i had that and then i also ate a ton of bacon and i could have eaten more but my child was also hungry so i had to share the bacon yeah and then i didn't have the bread i had a steak yeah and now i'm gonna have probably half a steak and then some beef bacon yeah we'll have a late dinner here yeah oh heather lucky you getting a cow butcher fantastic yes we're teasing you so but if you go if you know my it's dr barry's favorite recipe well one of his favorite recipes yeah she made this exactly for his birthday 50th birthday birthday my pumpkin bread so that's a sweet bread but we kind of then just modified the recipe it no longer contained pumpkin and just had safer things in it and then we modified that bread yeah and i mean so if you want to get creative feel free to look on my website for the magic pumpkin bread and then modify modify yeah that's good it's real good you can buy bread pans off of amazon for nothing by the way and you just stick wax paper parchment paper i'm assuming all that's on your blog right mm-hmm well certainly that that recipe is yeah thinly sliced yeah so you got to let it cool really really really really well and then you can slice it really really thin um pumpkin brand yeah that's what it's called it's on what is your blog called it's kimhowerton.com yes and then go to recipes and then scroll through until you get to the magic pumpkin bread magic it is quite magical all right we've been on here foreign flies when you're having fun it does so we should really do team team nishikim we need a name we don't like keisha nimberly i realized today that kimberly burley is only one letter different than barry yeah so i wrote kim berry but that's a little early it's very similar so i'm almost a member of the family uh you are yeah ken always puts the name barry on the end of all of our friends names that he like loves the most so he's like kim berry is coming over or melissa berry's coming over or like he just adopts us all if he loves you you get the last name niche burly niche burley nice burley live i don't use kimberly like ever it is my legal name kimberly but i i tend to use the kim because i feel like i'm in trouble when people call me kimberly yeah kimberly rose oh that sounds bad no one ever calls me anything well i mean nobody gets mad at you they when they remind me they call me bad names on the internet when ken calls me when kim's mad at me you know what he calls me hon okay hon cause he knows i hate that you don't like i got a
