22-year-old arrested in connection with stabbing spree in Illinois

four people are dead after a mass stabbing in the Rockford Illinois area another victim is in critical condition and Rockford Police say a postal worker is among the dead Apes news Reena Roy is following this case Arena what more do we know about these attacks well Terry we just heard from local officials within the hour who gave an update on just this terrible tragedy some of them even getting emotional during the press conference as the victims were identified the oldest was a 63-year-old woman and the youngest just 15 years old Jenna newom whose family says she died saving her sister and her friend protecting them from further harm and police say in total four people were killed including a US postal worker who officials say was a 25e veteran of the Postal Service he was on the job working as a letter carrier when he was killed seven others were also injured and this all happened in the middle of the day yesterday afternoon in a residential neighborhood there in Rock for police say 22-year-old Christian SoDo first attacked a woman in her home then went on a stabbing spree around the area before he was arrested by a sheriff's deputy police believe Soto uh that he acted alone they are not looking for any other suspects at this time Terry yeah it's very disturbing I grew up not far from from Rockford it's a it's a very lovely small small City so uh is there a motive here what happened why did this happen well that's the big question right now police so far have not released any motive in this attack but they do say that stto will be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law he is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder people in the community now being offered Mental Health Services as they try to cope with this sudden tragedy there will also be a vigil this afternoon with local Faith leaders to honor the victims and Terry you can just tell it is a really tight-knit Community there absolutely Reena Roy thank you for that report hi everyone George Stephanopoulos here thanks for checking out the ABC News YouTube channel if you'd like to get more videos show highlights and watch live event coverage click on the right over here to subscribe to our Channel and don't forget to download the ABC News app for breaking news alerts thanks for watching
