Honing a Rusty Cylinder in the Slant 6

you're a maniac for today's episode we hone and hone and hone and hone because we've got a big just molested spot of Rusty guck that will not come out of this we are gonna have to really remove some material these are medium grade Stones we probably need course but we can't find them locally we should probably Amazon order them but we're gonna have at it and really really lay into them and see if we can get some more of this out or if it's really as hopeless if you want to do the other one for me those are good I can just see them they're beautiful they're gonna hone up they're gonna finish up real nicely this one is homeless yeah oh that's hard on the back look great down in here does that look good or what and then right here it looks like crap this side looks really good that does not look good at all well we can make it a five cylinder it's not worthless it's just the hole be a little bigger top off of this it's already I'm already cutting cross hatch into the is there a difference between your high combine height no I'm shorter than you no that's why I need the stool I can reach I bet if I stand on a stool I'll be about the same height as you shush oh explosion this was a good low hour motor this is looking okay you got the light I'm headed over there this is textbook baby get the crap off my hands before oh look at that good that one this looks this looks good yeah this doesn't look too bad we need more gasoline yeah this is gonna run out okay let's get some more I'm gonna put I think we got the ratio right on this too right that was an accident okay an act of desperation I'm going to do something that uh it's not an engine thing it's a finish thing and if you cannot take enough Material off going like this you go like this a couple times and then the this will act a lot more efficiently so what we're going to do all the way around is 50 grit thank you just gonna mess with people who don't know what they're doing what they're doing all right I'm going to bring you in and show you what I've done so you can have a heart attack what has she done what has she done all right as you can see these Pistons these cylinders are coming out nice this one's got some scoring in it but it's pretty minor and I don't want to keep grinding in it it's really getting better this one is also really getting better you can see cross hatching going through all of those imperfections this one looks great a little bit of nicking there from rings but not too bad what we're really struggling is here and I just hit it with the Sandpaper up and down instead of worrying about just getting that rough space we're going to get those scratches out of there we're going to see if that helps us take Material off a little bit quick give it a little Bunch because we I just okay don't do it until I see what'll happen why what do you do I'm gonna take this and put it in the cylinder then you're going to expand that thing into it and spin it it does scratches up and down scratches come out yes they're out already yes no a week I think you just go round around it you can see what happens [Music] just go just go around around it don't worry about up and down stop stop okay pull up a little bit I'm just I'm trying to get the same Keeper in the hole they're down again okay there try that that'll drip real hard in the whole block will fly around the circle smashing into me Maniac you burned it up yeah it's still there we're not even cutting it yet did brush Harden the no there's nothing there this is if it's so hard they're not hard they're deep it feels like no we have the Audi things like well there are but first we have to get the outside of the board down to the diameter of the tokyati that's okay okay give me some uh lubricant oh you want lubricant on that I don't think the Sandpaper okay so let's keep doing it like this stop that I can't believe this is working this is insanity you're boring that joke what do you think should I keep going I think I gotta let me go here for 25 degrees do they make one well these stones are what 220 so what's really going at it now I'm doing all the hard work you can at least wipe sheesh calls me boring and then expects me to do the wiping boring you didn't even get any in there yeah I did no all right let me get a clean up with the stones and the and the juice before we wipe this is just not man I don't know how deep that is you know I don't know what we're taking out we don't have a board gauge so I have no idea if we're taking like nothing measurable or if we're taking a couple thousands or well I can tell by the chamfer on the top of the board that are not taking out huge I bet we're not taking out much I bet it's barely measurable we've been at it a couple of hours and our Slant six although mostly looking very good is having a problem in cylinder number two we just can't seem to get that out of there and uh as far as we could tell it is beyond our capability with hand tools um even scraping up and down we can't get scrapes through it it's it's pitted into the wall of that cylinder Beyond I mean we are going to have to or maybe with a coarse Stones maybe with a lot only maybe with a coarse stone and a lot more honing but we don't have that right now God we're waiting on Tony uh we did learn a lot about honing an engine this just may not be the block that we use at this point it could go out to a machine shop potentially but uh you know what are we talking some money there huh well we don't know but money so unless uh someone wants to donate machine work we need a block before we can build turbo Del Campo but that is not the final say the final say will be by Tony he may just tell us to run it and I no doubt this would run what do you think I think it would run I think it would might burn oil though on that piston yeah you don't know what the pressure is doing yeah so you know you're going to be low on one of the cylinders and that's not really where you want to start your build uh it might be a runner but uh we're looking for a little better than that so uh uh on to the next thing
