[Music] it's time to put the suspension off the Polaris ETV onto the front of the Odyssey will get a lot more travel a lot more steering angle and massively improved brakes so this time we're going to start by figuring out the steering first and we're gonna use these links from the ATV they're gonna go somewhere in here the inner tie rods will push on this point and then this tie rod will go out to the wheel so they'll steer like that which will eliminate bump steer and it'll help us raise the steering got to clear everything first step we have to cut out this bar here to fit this link and figure out where it needs to go so we'll start with that [Music] after many many iterations and much thinking and staring by both Sam and me we came up with and parts from three or four different machines that we have laying around we came up with a net with a solution we rotate this steering arm from the bottom of the steering pivot to the top which reverses our steering direction and then we use - we have a tie rod here we'll have another one going there and we'll have a bell crank on each side which will have the pivot in the middle reversing the steering a second time to make it back to what we want [Music] we're making some of the mounts for the front suspension and we had to make we have to make 16 of these but eight of them are going to be one size than a two different size so we made the first template and then we just tap them together and so now I'm just smoothing them off on all the edges and then we'll have an eighth semi matching pieces [Music] [Applause] [Music] steering's all roughly figured out now it's time to mount the a arms so that we can get the exact location of all of this and to do that we decided the easiest option is to just hack the whole frame off about here and make a new front end on it because the front pivot needs to go about here front to back wise it needs to be about there which cutting this down and it just it's not worth it Plus this all doesn't even make sense for the way the front end is gonna be now so we'll cut it off about there somewhere in here cut that off and then extend these tubes then we'll also switch to a heavier thicker wall tubing at that point so it's extra sturdy [Music] we've got four little spacer sleeve adapter things machined and four pieces of tubing so we're transitioning from a thin wall tubing to a thicker wall tubing because that's what we have [Music] so I made for these two different sizes for the different size tubing so we can make those transitions nice and sturdy and so we just have to tack all that on there nice and straight and then we can start tacking on the suspension pivots and then once we have those located then we can figure out what we're going to do here for whatever sort of ball furger nonsense we'll do there [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey guys we're gonna take a quick break to talk about sponsor for this video honey have you ever bought in something online and then realized later you could have gotten it for much less well I have and then once you do that every time you're shopping you're always thinking am i overpaying for this well luckily I found honey it's a free web browser extension that searches online for coupon codes and like magic it'll automatically throw it into your cart and you'll get the best price every time when you're shopping online it knows every coupon code sale or discount at over 20,000 sites like Amazon eBay Aliexpress Safra Newegg and more honey adds no extra steps to the process you just get online shop like usual and it'll automatically find everything and put all the discounts into your cart for you this saves us so much time and money because we're always buying parts for you know cars the go carts etc tools cutoff discs man we buy a lot of cut-off discs and honey just goes in dives in automatically finds all the coupon codes we need and we save a lot of money and you can too look there's no reason not to use honey it's free to use and easy to install in just two clicks so shop with confidence get honey for free at join honey dot-com /gh PC that's join honey calm /gh PC and thanks again to honey for sponsoring this video they've helped us create this awesome project and let's get back to it so we need to change the notch in these brackets for the suspension and collectively we came up with this setup here which is a piece of square tube in the tubing notcher and then these are tacked together bolted to it and then tacked just for extra strength this is the easy and accurate way to do well maybe not easy for actor [Music] so Sam was up last week and we worked on this all day and got a lot done we have the the a arms mounted on both sides they're mounted and exactly the same orientation to each other as they were on the ATV so we measured everything and made all these brackets to get it exactly the way we wanted it to be but more importantly we got the steering all worked out and we have a lot of angle about twice as much water not haven't measured it it looks like twice as much as we had before yeah it's gonna be all pull different fees to drive yeah and we have zero bump steer and adjustable ratio steering so right now it's set up in well there's a lot of combinations possible but it's set up to be almost maximum angle right now which that it is but we can change it by doing different holes here on the bell crank give you different ratios so if because we're putting much larger tires on there if it's too hard to steer we can move this bolt back to holes and this bolt back a hole and that makes it much easier to steer if it gives you less angle so that's a really cool feature there these pivots here are basically in the same place as the suspension pivots it means that there's no bump steer so as the suspension travels it doesn't go in or out at all I mean unless it's at full lock but then you're going really slow probably or drifting really hard either way a little bit of bump steer in that case doesn't matter it's now all tacked there and we just have to finish the front of the frame and do some sort of a skid plate floor pan to put your feet on and then hook up the brakes and of course weld it all up and then it's ready for a test send got the first bed loaded up on one of our new dies yeah this is the inch and a quarter die first time bending some mention a quarter tube which is cool [Music] so we're getting the front end all tied together and stiffened up and this is this is kind of the plan here is we've got this piece done and then I'm going to bring both of these tubes kind of in and up to the center there which will be nice and strong and then we'll do some sort of skid plate down the middle so your feet have a place to be and protected and then it'll all be stiffer and then we can add in some bracing in between here try to make it look kind of like the trellis that's back there we'll see what we can do but anyway yeah that's what we got going on [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] I was getting tired of doing the dimples manually and that manual press thing doesn't put out quite enough pressure to really dimple in thicker steel so someone actually mentioned this in the comments is that the Piranha has plenty of power for the dimpled eyes so I came up with a solution and basically it's pretty crude but you just take the dye out of there and then take off this whole guy holder just two bolts that comes right off and then thickest piece of steel I had handy it just fits in there quite nicely put that there and then set your dye on there put your piece of metal in it and then I cut a couple of pieces of inch and a quarter solid which we could up that but it's a little squished that works for the smaller ones set that in there nice and straight and it kind of gets held in by the this little bracket there kind of holds it in place [Music] nice shiny dimple in just a couple of seconds [Music] yeah I think that looks pretty good it's extremely simple this part and extremely strong way way way overkill strong you could hit like a bus with this thing and the bus would not be good [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] did you start with your drawings and then start cutting her yeah so I started with the drawings to try to guess where these points were so I just put some lines down there and then did diagonals from there to try to get the distance out so we make sure this shot is at the right angle and it ends up being pretty perfect have you got some Illuminati stuff Ellis will probably take like a curve out of here or dimple die [Music] there's still a lot to do but it's all roughly there the steering's all setup the suspensions all mounted a lot of it's all brace all the major bracing is done this shock is completely mounted well one half of it we need to do the other half and then reinforce it but it's located where it's gonna be and last thing I was working on is this bar here which is gonna serve multiple purposes the main one being it's gonna strengthen these shock mounts because they were kind of like they had to be the farthest away from their tube and so they're kind of weak and this will brace them but it also acts as a leg bar so that your legs don't run into the steering arms or vice-versa so that just needs to be tacked in there all that's really left is to finish up these shock mounts weld everything and then make a skid plate floor pan thing and a foot place for your feet to go and then we'll be ready to really send it oh yeah and for comparison's sake we'll probably test it out with these tires on it and then we'll get the new wheels and tires on there [Music]
