foreign hey y'all and welcome to how do you cook Back to Basics on today's video I'm gonna be sharing with you an oldie but goodie recipe today's recipe is all about potato pancakes AKA potato cakes y'all and these potato pancakes are super versatile as well you can add onions bell peppers shredded cheese American cheese the sky's the limit on what you want to put in your potato cakes but today I will be sharing with you the original potato pancake recipe so let's get started first thing you'll need is two cups of already prepared mashed potatoes I made mashed potatoes the other night actually a couple nights ago and thought I would make this recipe for you all have two cups of mashed potatoes three tablespoons of all-purpose flour 1 4 teaspoon of black pepper foreign so now we're going to get to mixing let's mix all of these ingredients together now my potatoes were a little on the thicker side so I may need to add another egg I'm not really sure yet so let's just try this out and Sue so I'm gonna add one more egg to my mixture okay I think this is good so I'm gonna set this over to the side and get my oil ready for frying these up I will be using mazzola corn oil so I'm going to grab a spatula full there's no measurements you put in there what you feel that you like we're just gonna leave that there and do not move it until the bottom gets nice and crispy and then we'll flip it over okay so they're starting to Brown on the sides so I'm gonna check the bottoms and I think they're just about ready to flip over we'll go ahead and flip this one over there's that one oops there we go up there we go I'm gonna let those just cook up now you want to make sure that the egg and the flour that's in your potatoes Cooks so you don't want to cook these on too high of a heat like right now I have my stove on a medium low and I may turn it down just a little bit more I think I will and we'll let those brown up on that side so I'm going to go ahead and take these out of the frying pan and put them on a paper towel lined plate and set that over here now I believe we still have enough oil in our pan so I'm gonna proceed with getting some more of our mixture potato mixture together finger here are your potato pancakes oh they smell so good and I cannot wait to try one out for y'all I'm gonna grab the very top one and we'll set this down take a little piece off of it and I didn't give you a bite did I here's your bike and here's mine so if you're planning on making potato cakes and you make your mashed potatoes for a dinner the day or two before make sure you season your mashed potatoes really well because that makes a huge difference in how your potato cakes are gonna taste I hope you all enjoyed this episode on how do you cook Back to Basics and if you did please hit that like button and please do consider subscribing if you haven't already done so and don't forget to hit that Bell notification so you don't miss out on any of my upcoming videos until next time y'all bye bye now [Music]
