[Music] holy spirit come and have your way [Music] sweep [Music] this is your house you're we welcome you lord we welcome you this is your house your home welcome you today as we offer up our hearts and lives let them be a living sacrifice have your way [Music] be glorified in everything you do be glorified in everything we say have your way this is your house your home we welcome you lord we welcome you this is your house your home we welcome you today lord we welcome you today good evening everyone and welcome to the celebration of the feast of saint thomas the apostle today we celebrate saint thomas and we know who saint thomas is as one of the twelve is known for his doubt after they told him the news about the resurrection of christ that unless he is able to see and feel he will not believe and jesus said blessed are those who do not see and yet believe and who are those who do not who did not see and yet believe you and i so it's a day of blessing not only to those who bear the name thomas but to all of us and we offer this mess tonight for george and charcoal whose birthday are called today we ask god to bless george and his family in india let us also pray for the sick members of our parish here especially members of our families we remember maricopa who is right now in the hospital that god will grant her a quick recovery we pray for delia through us that god will also grant her healing and all those who are sick and we bring our other intentions together as we pray at this mass calling on the intercession of saint thomas and let us now begin in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit dear brothers and sisters let us now acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries lord jesus you call your people to turn away from sin lord have mercy lord have mercy lord jesus you forgive sins through the ministry of reconciliation christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus you open for your people the way from death into life lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life [Music] we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king o god almighty father jesus christ only begotten son [Music] lord god [Music] you take away the essence of the world at first you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father [Music] [Music] [Music] jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god [Music] let us pray grant almighty god that we may glory in the feast of the blessed apostle thomas so that we may always be sustained by his intercession and believing may have life in the name of jesus christ your son whom thomas acknowledged as the lord who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god for ever and ever a reading from the letter of saint paul to the ephesians you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors you are citizens like all the saints and part of god's household you are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations and christ jesus himself for its main cornerstone as every structure is aligned on him all grow into one holy temple in the lord and you too in him are being built into a house where god lives in the spirit the word of the lord go out to all the world and tell the good news oh praise the lord all you nations acclaim him all you peoples strong is his love for us he is faithful forever please stand to welcome the gospel [Music] oh yeah [Music] you believe in me thomas because you have seen me happy those who have not seen me but still believe [Music] [Music] oh the lord be with you reading from the holy gospel according to matthew glory to you sorry the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to john thomas called the twin who was one of the twelve was not with the disciples when jesus came when they said we have seen the lord he answered unless i see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the hose they made and unless i can put my hand into his side i refused to believe eight days later the disciples were in the house again and thomas was with them the doors were closed but jesus came in and stood among them peace be with you he said then he spoke to thomas put your finger here look here are my hands give me your hand put it into my side doubt no longer but believe thomas replied my lord and my god jesus said to them you believe because you can see me happy are those who have not sinned and yet believed the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ [Music] thomas one of the twelve disciples was one that loved jesus so much and for him life will come to nothing without jesus if you remember there was a time when jesus announced the death of lazarus sorry yeah when he told them that lazarus was sick and he wanted to go back to bethany and the disciples said to him look it wasn't long when the jews attempted to kill you are you going back there again and then it was thomas who said let us go and die with him so for him he cannot see life without jesus the bible called him didymus which means the twin isn't it thomas coincidentally is our twin brother because we have a lot with thomas in common there are a lot of things we have in common with thomas thomas is our twin brother and he wants to express our feeling about how we approach god about how we accept reality thomas witness the arrests the trial the the torture the crucifixion and the death of jesus and for him it will be absolutely impossible for him to come back to life and that was why he said unless i see him and not just that i must touch him i have to feel him before i can believe no wonder one of my friends who was going to attend thomas primary school when i asked her she's just she was going to the prep and when i asked her what is the name of your school she said saint thomas the impossible she meant to say saint thomas the apostle but it made sense to me now that with thomas certain things are impossible and one of those things was the resurrection of jesus why did thomas come to that stage because he was deeply wounded by the death of jesus he couldn't recover from the wound and so he was carried within him very deep wounds and jesus had to come and heal him jesus is the one bearing the physical wound but he became the wounded healer and so when he asked thomas approached him he came to the disciples and he said to thomas come bring me your hands come and touch me the moment thomas thomas touched jesus he was healed he was not only healed of his eternal wounds but he was also healed of his doubts and that was why he made that powerful exclamation of faith my lord and my god unlike thomas we carry within us a lot of wounds that needs to be healed we are wounded by sin we are wounded by hurts in the past we are wounded by family members and friends we are wounded by the situation happening around us many people are wounded by this pandemic and they need that healing and today jesus like he did in the past is coming to us uninvited when he went to visit the disciples eight days later the doors were closed which means they didn't even invite him he invited himself and when he came and saw them he knew what they needed most at that time they were not in need of money they were not in need of house they were in need of peace because their heart was troubled because of the wounds they were carrying within them and what did jesus say to them peace be with you so like saint thomas jesus is going to invite himself into our homes into our hearts he wants to come and touch us not we touching him for those of you who are here at mass you have the privilege of jesus coming to you sacramentally not just to touch your hands not just to touch your body but to come and live inside you in your heart where those wounds are so that he can heal you and this is why i said thomas is our twin brother because if we look deep within us there are a lot of wounds there that needs to be healed and only jesus can cure us only jesus can bring healing to those wounds and until those wounds are healed we cannot see him as our lord and god so let us pray at this mass that god will give us the grace to open our hearts to jesus and for those who are not even here present in the church but may be watching us from a distance jesus is going to come to you spiritually if you open your hearts to him he will touch you he will heal your wounds he will heal your pains and he will make you whole so we pray today for all those who bear the name from us that god will give them the grace and the blessings that saint thomas had tradition had it on one version that he took the gospel to india to preach the message of of christ there was it in goa yes in goa and then he was believed to have died there as well but whatever it is like saint thomas we need to be healed before we can take the gospel out to others if we are healed then we'll be able to reach out to others with the good news then we become the true witness of that good news because we have experienced it ourselves and then we can bring that healing to others so we pray for those who bear the names on us that the prayers and the constant intercession of saint thomas will keep them on the right path to experience this healing we also pray for all the institutions that bear the name same thomas the saint thomas the apostle parish and our diocese that god will help them bring them together as a family bond them together as they prepare to build their new church and let us also pray for those who celebrate their bad days today those who are here with us and those who are not here we pray for ryan who spared their call today and all those who are here with who are not here that god will grant them the grace he gave to saint thomas whose day they share by virtue of their birthday that they will also be blessed with the same spirit let us pray that our twin brothers and thomas we continue to intercede for us to experience this true healing that can only come from christ may god bless you please stand our response to the prayer is lord help us in our weakness lord help us in our weakness with faith in the risen christ whose wounds are the signs of his victory let us bring our intentions to the father of mercies as we pray lord hear up witness that as a church we may not be wanting in manifesting our faith to unbelieving people let us pray to the lord lord help us in our weakness that there may be growth in the church of asia let us pray to the lord r lord help us in our weakness that hardened sinners and unbelievers may overcome their doubt and embrace the true faith let us pray to the lord witness that those who are overburdened with life especially the lonely and the sick may experience the joy of christ's resurrection let us pray to the lord r lord help us that the faithful departed may share in the glory of everlasting life let us pray to the lord help us in our weakness and we bring the needs of our words to god our father as we pray together we don't have it up further together we pray loving god your desire is and foreign the collective suffering of our world at this time we grieve precious lives lost and vulnerable lives threatened we aid for ourselves and our neighbors standing before an uncertain future we pray may love lord hear go viral inspire our leaders to send and choose wisely aligned with the common good help us to practice social distancing and reveal to us new and creative ways to come together in spirit and in solidarity call us the profound trust in your faithful presence you the god amen in silence let us pray for our other special needs further as we make our intercessions deepen our faith like saint thomas we may love and adore your son who lives and reigns forever and ever amen [Music] blessed are you lord powderful creation thanks to your goodness at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] savior of the world for by your cross and resurrection you had set us free therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lords the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving things that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and greg our bishop-elect and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles said from us and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coerced to eternal life i may praise and glorify you grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ to say to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live
