I still remember when I first saw a Halo game. Had a family friend who had the first two and he let me borrow them since he knew I was interested. He ended up buying Halo 3 for me on Christmas and having played all three was just fun.
Playing all three with friends last year was fun. Halo 2 was torture though actually, since we did it in Legendary. Basically if someone dies, we have to restart where in 1 and 3 it was just a player would need to be out of a battle so the player can safely respawn. I still have no clue how we did it and I have no idea how anyone did it alone in Legendary since it was pretty hard with a friend and I even.
I remember when Combat Evolved/XBOX released, I had less than zero interest in anything Microsoft was doing. I, like a lot of people at the time, had already written them off as another bullet point in a long list of failed attempts at entering a market they just didn't understand.
My cousin called me and told me that he bought an XBOX. I laughed at him and told him what a waste of money that was. But he invited me to come check out Halo, so figured I might as well.
He showed me the opening of Silent Cartographer. As soon as I saw the Marines hoping off the Pelican, and running around the beach, with minds of their own - I was stunned.
I literally got up and ran to the store to buy an Xbox that day.
Man I wish I liked shooters more, Half-life 2 is one of the best games I've ever played and no other shooter even comes close and except for a select few like titanfall 2 and the singleplayer in call of duty modern warfare I always find them very lacking.
