Big Mike Tanaka is the inspiration as for a lot of things in the ranch fairy world he is the wizard of all archery and he's been very patiently guiding me to say you need to listen here's what happened I had a set of shafts sent from a manufacturer doesn't matter what it is I had them sent to somebody else and they cut them so that means that the back of the shaft was cut by the manufacturer the front of the shaft was cut by another individual which simulates what happens to you when you go to a shop or when you order arrows off of the internet here's the connection between my insert and into the shaft where it was cut off by the second person who cuts it and then here's the corresponding wobble from that connection now this should kind of freak you out because when you go to a shop and you have some steroid kid with a big dip in his mouth on a flat for him standing back there preferably he has a couple of tattoos and say like archery or big elk on his arm that guy he's cut your factory cut shops too and he slammed the inserts in and he said that's good you're square maybe not here we go [Music] do you think exploded set this up a little bit here's what I've done Mike cuts his own shafts he's got all these extra tools and stuff I'm gonna do a build based on someone like normal people who may order their own shafts from the internet or go to a shop and get them cut to length and then some of the tweaks that Mike makes to really really make sure the arrow is very straight still apply even to shafts you've had cut in the shop or maybe cut on the internet if you order them off at Niren that vendor Brandon Pierce Johnson is one of my subscribers and like it or not he sent me shafts and he thinks I know what I'm doing thank god there's the wizard for coaching me so what I'm going to show you is I'm doing a regular what I call a super toon his gold tip 300 spine these are standard diameter pretty standard shafts they get shot a lot and a lot of critters died and I said hey send me your new your latest dozen and I'm gonna super tune them and use the mic tricks so we are going to start with the assumption that you want you you have a bear shaft your components arrived separately they are not glued in but the shaft is cut to length so that's what I have in my hand no knock no insert glued in and the inserts are separate he chose to get the gold tip brass you might get an ethics steal one and you guys may just shoot the standard aluminum inserts they come with them that's fine I don't care the process is still the same they did this in this particular video we are only going to work on the pointy end where the insert goes and your broad head will end up this is all I'm all about broadheads this works for few points but I don't care about that I just want to shoot broad heads and whack stuff step one every arrow this is one arrow build you take a sharpie and you run it around the edge of the shaft and you make that you can't probably see that but you make the end of the shaft black and shiny this is a squaring tool this happens to be Luminox squaring tool the price brothers were nice enough to send this to me and you square the end of the shaft okay so you just put it in there there's an abrasive side here I had to replace it there's usually a disc on here but I replaced it with some skateboard tape of all things super abrasive and we're gonna square the end of the shaft as square as we can get it with a manual device a lot of companies make squaring tools I happen to have the fast tool you can order it all flumino com when you get done the end of the shaft will be nice and shiny or excuse me the end of the shaft will be gray colored because you've scraped all of the Sharpie off and you want to make sure there's no sharpie and this is perfectly cool so that's step 1 square the end of the shaft that you're gonna work on okay now we're gonna talk about the wall of the shaft a little bit and the three different inserts so this is the brass that brandon has chosen to put in a hundred grains of brass in the front of his arrow here each because he's trying to build an adult arrow this is the end that we just square it up and it's worth a broadheads gonna go and it's pretty loose okay this is the label and the nock and is really really tight and you say well yes now can you put some rock in there I checked the other ones it's not the same so the interior wall in and of itself of the shaft could provide some wobble for your answer in fact when I put this aluminum insert which is what ninety percent of you guys are shooting in here I can feel just a little bit of play kind of vertically it's crazy and then the steel one from ethics is really really tight both of the longer inserts and it might be just the fact that they're long they don't tend to wobble the short one I've had some crazy results with that so we're going to drop the inserts in this is what brandon has chosen the brass one hundreds and then we're going to spin this with a broad we're gonna tune the insert to make sure that the shaft the insert the broadhead are in perfect alignment you get them in perfect alignment your broadheads tend to launch capture so what I've done is I've put an insert in this shaft and I've already spun it and what Big Mike told me to do was mark the shaft where the insert connection spins the straightest so see that black line there it's just a sharpie and that means that's purely perfect spin obviously is a little black Hornet we've been shooting a lot of a lot of people shoot them set it out here you see the line it's just a perfect spin you just put it between your hand and spin it see how perfect that is here's the line and then when we rotate it to the other side of the shaft so there's the mark and here's the true DUP mark that you know it's obviously awful watch this you see that little tiny wobble it's a little tiny wobble especially when it slows down right about there it's just not as true it's close and most people would say that's good the faster you spin it it'll take you out so then we'll go back to the line there it is it's lined up and spin it again alright so in closing I've sent for shafts to Brandon for him to start take a test drive on as I build them because this takes a while I bet it takes an hour total per shaft to insert tune get them straight and get them glued and then let the glue set and then go shoot them a couple days later tunak tun which will be the next video but still stick on what we got here you'll end up with an arrow with a black mark on it showing where the perfect set for that insert is when you get a shaft and the insert lines up and you can get your broad head to spin straight you mark that insert to that shaft and glue it into that arrow and then when the glue is damp double check the spin just to make sure that the glue didn't move it around again okay that would be your first arrow that you've tuned to the insert and you might think this is crazy but when you do this process what you are doing you have a very long cylinder that you are propelling from 0 feet per second to whatever speed you're shooting it doesn't matter it's an incredible launch the minute you hit the trigger or release the string it goes from sitting completely static state to a incredibly dynamic state every little bit of wiggle waggle left and right means that it launches funny if it's not perfectly straight and then you introduce some wings onto the front that may just be a little bit to the side and all of a sudden you say I can't get to friction a broad hips to fly it must be the round head I'm sure it's the round heads or maybe not everything is lined up I'm telling you man the wizard has been working on me I used to build arrows slam them into the insert it slam the inserts into them close enough bent some broad heads to give them square oh if you wouldn't really want to know all right that's insert tuning super tune step one because it really helps when your broad heads fly subscribe to the channel keep watching this series I'm the next step is not tuning and that requires you to shoot the things bare shaft which is freakin freaky but when you get that straight and it takes a while you really get straight remember we're trying to build a perfectly square broad head connection and then we're gonna go to the other end we're gonna build a squared up nock end that behaves on your bow and arrow and that means the system in and of itself should be as square as possible so if you decide to carry a golf bag and shoot a few different broad heads you can that's the ranch fairy subscribe to the channel stay tuned I'm gonna keep going with this series if it's been a while and this thing's been up for a year this is a series up one super to narrow bills wrench fairy out on your bow and arrow so don't listen to it anything this idiot says because you're right you're right shoots the biggest widest friggin mechanical thing you can with a put an Indian on it make it just like a no that's what I'm gonna make my paints all brown hair deal with bronze Lube you keep your eyes peeled 2018 baby the chainsaw [Music] you [Music]
