[Music] hello and welcome into my latest live broadcast or vlog video log YouTube streaming video whatever you want to label it welcome into my kitchen my name is Kerry Holtzman and you are Fred John Debbie well whatever your name is welcome in come on in and we got about two hundred and thirty people watching right now let's make sure everybody can see and hear me okay and then we're going to progress forward though this video is being recorded with the DVR mode enabled that means that anytime you at any point you can rewind the video well I'm live and yeah yeah just like that today I'm testing out some flash drives and you know often times the expression if it's too good to be true it probably is we're going to experience that firsthand today I suspect so thank you for the feedback from the chatroom that's how long the delay is between when I say something and when it gets broadcasted so yes there's a bit of a delay there so thank you for the feedback that everything's good and see everybody joining welcome in come on in come on in make sure that everybody's here before we get started mmm first coke of the day mmm all right oh that's good coca-cola mm-hmm so yesterday I built this machine I'm sorry now yesterday was Friday everything's a blur and when I built it I used the old SATA cable that the computer had the blue one and I decided to keep all those parts with the old motherboard and so that's the only thing that's changed since the last time you saw this system I just replaced the SATA cable going from the DVD drive to the motherboard there's no funny business happening here we'll deal with this cable management a bit later this case doesn't really allow for much cable management but again this is an office computer so nobody's looking inside there's no case window or anything like that now what I've got here on the table I've got five different types of flash drive I've got the typical kinds you would buy with the name-brand this patriot flash drive is 256 gigs and it sells for about $70 this is from SanDisk as you can see it's quite a bit thinner it's not quite as wide same size 256 gig this sells for around a hundred and 120 dollars I want to say somewhere in there there's links to everything you're about to see here in the video notes below this video links to Amazon links to the testing software it's all there so be sure if you're you know want to look at the prices the prices are also listed in the video notes but the links will take you right to Amazon and if you make any purchase from Amazon doesn't matter what it is if you've clicked on the link in my video description and well visiting Amazon you purchase something else without shutting down the browser and restarting it again in other words if my link that you clicked on in my video took you to Amazon and as a result of that you've made any purchase at all I get a small commission from that that goes towards promoting contributing to the channel and so yeah if you're ordering from Amazon you can help me out a little bit doesn't change your price at all it's just all about the link that took you to Amazon so everything about to show you everything is listed at Amazon everything was purchased from Amazon now we're gonna compare that with these two 256 gig flash drives from Amazon one sells for twelve dollars and one sells for fifteen dollars do you believe that these are 256 gig flash drives because according to the label on the back if it will focus that says it's 256 gig USB 2.0 now of course these are all USB 3.1 everything else I'm showing you so they're gonna be a lot faster in a 256 gig USB 2.0 you might say well that's why it's so inexpensive right it's probably just really slow I would argue that this little indicator here that says Made in China is probably your first clue that it's fake we get so much fake and counterfeit products from China it's probably the single source of the most not only the most dangerous products China can often the consumer reports as very commonly had product recalls that they were involved in for children's toy toys that were painted with lead to paste lead-based paint which we don't use in America we don't have leaded gasoline either they know lead causes cancer but in China they still use it and they'll still it's cheap and they'll just pawn it off to these idiots in the United States who are looking to save a buck and in exchange they're gonna get some cancer well I'm not a big fan of products coming out of China if if all production from China ceased and we were living off every other country in the world especially when we talk about electronics you know I try to find stuff built in Japan the quality from Japan seems to be much better everything from you know all those batteries that are exploding every one of those Chinese batteries none of them were Japanese batteries so it's gonna sound a little racist but at the same time its objective it's a its objective observation that these products are being made unsafely they're unsafe products and the one thing that they all have in common is they all come from China so that's not to say everything coming out of China is bad but everything bad that we have that's electronic or batteries that sort of thing those things overwhelmingly are created and originated in China so with that in mind I'm gonna find out how these drives perform for the money what you're gonna get for your money here today right now live on YouTube so let's get started this machine's already booted up I kind of prepped it a little bit with some utilities and such so let's get you switched over to this desktop right here okay so actually maybe I can put myself in there here we go all right now what do you see on the desktop where a bunch of utilities that I use for PC testing and whatnot this is the core 8086 Kay with the hyper 212 Evo and for those of you curious if the hyper 212 Evo is good enough I ran prime95 on this pushing all the cores 100% for three hours the hottest any of the cores got which was 57 degrees Celsius that's incredible and this is what I like about the hyper 212 Evo I don't know how they do it and how they do it so cheaply but it's a very effective cooler now somebody asked me to run the intel extreme tuning test I've never done that before but if you look on the desktop I did download it I have not yet installed it and we will get to that after this so so far everything's great as far as this 8086 k cpu is going it's fantastic no heat issues whatsoever but we'll push it harder a little bit later the other USB option that you have that I failed to mention is an m2 SATA to USB 3.1 adapter and that's what this is this is from silverstone it sells for like $35 and you put any SATA based MDOT to drive of any capacity in there and it's even cheaper as far as USB storage and performance goes this is your best bang for the buck and you never have to worry about it failing because you just take the screws out and pop another MDOT 2 SATA in there as long as the controller still good you won't use envy me drives in this USB 3 couldn't handle that speed anyway just be wasting your money but you can put a 240 gig 128 gig 500 gig 1 terabyte doesn't matter slap it in there upgrade it replace it if it's broken much more legs on this if you will it's gonna last a lot longer potentially than a regular flash drive which obviously if it fails you'd have to handle that under warranty it's nothing you're gonna fix yourself and obviously you can't upgrade it ever so that's the advantage to this but how do they perform and what are the ups and downs right so one of the downsides of this Drive is its size it's quite a bit larger than say the SanDisk and this has a 240 gig a data SSD in there right now but you know the size isn't it's not incredibly you know larger so it's a little bit larger right and you could say the same here I mean out of this whole bunch this is the most expensive one right here this is your most expensive option this is the SanDisk Extreme Pro 256 gig and I love that little switch I keep talking about this switch I just love it I'd love the way that's designed it's got a magnet that catches it and you can't push that in at all when you push this but when you slide this button I don't know how they do it but apparently if you just put a little bit of pressure on that button it releases a catch and then you can push this so it's really well well-designed and it's it's better than the fidgets spinner I will just sit there and play with this all day no playing with you and you can buy a cheaper one you can buy the the 16 gig extreme for like 20 bucks on Amazon and then you can have your own fidget spinner for a fidget flash drive that's what call it the fidget flashdrive so the question is let's start with the I already know the SanDisk and the patriot and the Silverstone I know those are gonna work it's just a question of how fast are they right let's all agree on that those are authentic products that are well-made and they're gonna there's no question of capacity exaggeration that's a kind of word for it so here I'm gonna open this up right here and watch I'm going to open this brand-new and Kevin never opened it before and I expect I'm gonna be returning this to Amazon one of the benefits of buying from a reputable reseller versus looking for the cheapest price everywhere if Amazon is a little bit more money I will gladly pay if it's Amazon Prime you know qualified because the ease of returns is such a peace of mind I suspect these are bad and when I read the reviews the reviews are confirming what I suspected by looking at the price now this claims to be 256 gigs it's very tiny there's no led to let you know if it's reading or writing and it says that it's USB 2.0 now whether or not it's USB 2 or USB 3 or USB 1 doesn't matter which USB port you plug it into it's gonna work you know it's all backwards compatible but it'll only operate at the maximum speed of the device okay here we go let's plug it in and see what happens I'm gonna plug it in right here on the back of this computer and I need to go fullscreen on my side cuz you guys can see it a lot better than I can right now let's see let me go full screen on this so I can see what's happening hmmm something not good let's try that again full-screen mode full screen come on you need to hotkey for that all right now I can see if I go to the computer icon down here or the Explorer rather and we go to this PC I should see that flash drive we're not off to a good start I don't even see the flash drive in here so let me just unplug it and plug it back in again maybe I didn't push it all the way in yeah that was my fault it has an auto run I don't I ever never want to see an auto run on a flash drive because that's how you get viruses let's take a look at that auto run let's open it in notepad and see what they're trying to pull here ap Tools dot exe I don't know what that is and I don't see any file for it let's see if we can view any hidden files yeah it's right there it was hidden and it says Windows Defender antivirus found threats that means that I bought a brand new 256 gig flash drive from Amazon that contains a virus that auto runs the net nice and you'll notice this computer's not hooked up to the network or anything and there's a reason for that and despite all the negative reviews that the product is fake this add any other Amazon continues to allow it for sale so don't think just because you're buying from Amazon that you're getting a real you know off entik product because Amazon has these marketplace sellers anybody can sell on Amazon you and I can both sell on Amazon if we want to and you can even set up for Amazon Prime is this seller has apparently done this is not a good start or it's a really good start with regards to making a fantastic video I can't plan this out this is live I didn't know that was gonna happen but I was prepared regardless and that's the lesson you need to take out of this go for the best and expect the worst now let's go ahead and close that down and let's format this flash drive let's format we'll just do a quick format that's all good exFAT it would have to be either exFAT or NTFS because of its size I'm gonna choose NTFS click start we'll click OK and it should happen pretty quick it shows a total size of 249 gigs after formatting which is the same size just Microsoft reports it differently and why is this taking so long I don't know is there we go there we go and I like to turn off Drive indexing just to make sure I'm getting the best performance possible out of the drive so I'm going to uncheck indexing ok beautiful now let's run this h2 test W software there's a link for this in the video description below this video and I'm gonna run h2 test W on English select the target drive which is going to be the USB Drive and then hit write and verify now this is interesting it says testing only 255 902 out of a total capacity of 255 nine nine nine that is the sign of a cheap Chinese made flash drive what that's telling you is part of the flash drive is not available to write on so the flash drive still may work but it won't be able to write to its spoke capacity its capacity just as a few bytes short or a couple of megabytes short which when you're dealing with 256 gigs who cares about a couple of Meg's right but this is not a good omen to start out the test so let's click ok and and let's go ahead and let it do its thing and so I'm gonna let that run and let me go back to my regular screen mode so I can see you guys again because I have not been able to see what the chat rooms been saying okay we're gonna let it run and see what happens now I will tell you what often happens with these types of flash drives is they usually take like a 16 gig flash drive or an 8 gig flash drive something cheap and you know widely available and they adjust the firmware to report to the computer that it's bigger than it actually is they hack it and then when you plug it in let's say your average Joe consumer you buy this off Amazon what do you do to test it you're skeptical because you paid so little so you copy a couple files to the flash drive and you check them when they're fine and you conclude falsely that your flash drive works it's only until you exceed the capacity of whatever flash module they used that you'll run into problems so if they used an 8 gig flash module the minute you exceed 8 gigs of data you'll start having problems likewise if it's a 16 gig module or a 32 gig module I expect that the h2 test 2w software is going to run fine for the first 8 or 16 gigs of written data and then I think we're gonna start seeing errors so we're gonna find out but the point is it's being sold and marketed as a 256 gig flash drive and if you really wanted an 8 gig or 16 gig flash drive you could have bought one that's USB 3 that's much much faster that doesn't come with a virus on it for less money so that's such a good deal after all is it no and this is the problem people are greedy right you as a consumer you want the most for your money and they as a manufacturer also want the most for their money and whether or not you got your money Frye ripping somebody else off that's how they're making their monies by ripping you off so it's a nice little rip each other off type thing and you both get exactly what you deserve there Steven Huxtables contributed four pounds 99 he says have a Coke on me Keri Cheers Steven thank you Keri is there any way I can use Windows 7 after it expires in 2020 you can use it as long as you want to but you will be jeopardizing your identity they would be highly advisable that you not use Windows 98 or use Windows 95 or use Windows Vista or use Windows 7 when it expires asking if you can still use Windows 7 after expires is no different than asking me if you can still use Windows XP today it is unadvisable unless you're unplugged from the internet if you have no internet access knock yourself out the Internet is constantly evolving and changing there are hundreds of thousands literally hundreds of thousands of new viruses and exploits released to the Internet each and every day if you don't have the latest and greatest updates an anti-virus constantly being updated yet you are participating in that environment you you're just it's a matter of time before you're gonna have your your identity stolen so you know after the first day of support ending it's not likely gonna happen maybe even after the first couple of months it may not happen it may not even happen after a year of support ending but what will start to happen is when you buy some software you want to I don't know your your browser may stop working and there won't be any new browser releases you know try and get a browser for Windows XP that'll open half of the websites today they just won't open anymore or they open but then you know YouTube videos won't play on Windows XP whether you want to use Firefox Chrome Opera none of it there are certain websites they just absolutely will not display and you you could buy a printer or scanner or another piece of PC hardware and find that there's no drivers for Windows 7 you could buy your TurboTax software or any other kind of software and find that there's no support and it will not install in Windows 7 and that's going to gradually occur over time it will slowly erode away until it's completely useless so best that you stick with the majority of computer owners and use what we're using or move yourself out of the Windows operating system and into an alternative it's very important that you keep up or get off the internet one or the other yeah so hope that answers your question this says it wants seven hours and 55 minutes while this may not be fair he could paint a to life but this may be something I have to run at night can I just have windows own antivirus running or should I get any others that's a good question viruses really aren't the threat they once were about 7% of all infected PCs are infected with viruses the other 93% are infected with malware now the next iteration of Windows 10 should upgrade the Windows Defender or Windows security software to help defend against malware but right now it doesn't do much for that so that's your biggest threat and for that you can use the paid version of malwarebytes is what I recommend in combination with the Windows antivirus which is free or you can use MC soft spayed version EMS is oft and it will replace both it'll do the job of both windows security and malwarebytes in one piece of software I would not run MC soft and malwarebytes i would run malwarebytes in windows security center or MC soft and nothing else that's what I recommend to answer your question francy McCool says someone else did this test on a USB and it was 256 gig and he said it took 72 uh first complete yeah yeah yeah so you got to be very very careful when you're looking for bargains on the internet because there's a lot of bargains to be had and especially bargains for the seller just not for you I'll let us run a little bit longer but it's gonna take too long I'm just gonna move on to the next project here so yeah how much is your time worth ask yourself that the next time you're looking to save money on a large capacity USB Drive if it's not USB 3.0 at least what's your time worth and that's assuming this work so that's the that's the downside here as you put all this investment into testing and then you find out at the end it didn't work you know send it back and get your money back and everything was a complete waste of time so when you buy something you know like the SanDisk something that's from a reputable organization and you read the reviews you have a good idea what to expect as soon as it arrives in the mail you can tear it open out of the box plug it in and run these tests these tests will happen much much faster and they will verify everything much quicker to give you a peace of mind that yes in fact this is real and it does work and it works very quickly and that's why you paid more money for it time versus money it's gonna cost you one way or the other Nikolas says there are a lot of SanDisk fakes one thing you got to look out for is the country it says its manufacture in I think SanDisk's are made in Taiwan and not China well I got the package right here let's see what it says I'm gonna have to get glasses out because this is like a point zero zero two font pitch I don't know who thought that was a good idea we've had text it was really really tiny look how tiny that is let's see copyright Western Digital Corporation hmm USB 3.1 solid-state drive [Applause] made in China you know there are a lot of products that are made in China that are perfectly fine you know a lot of every Apple product for one I can't get that to focus in there but it's says it's made in China maybe it's fake I doubt it Lance says Western Digital owned SanDisk well there you go that explains that I wasn't aware of that that's why Western Digital has SSDs because they bought SanDisk gotcha all right this is gonna this is just pure torture waiting for this it really is let's try something else oh look the little green bar is finally starting to appear okay tell you what let's do this I got to go back into full-screen mode so I can see how much data has it written so far only five you know what let's let it run let's see if it exceeds sixteen so let's wait until you know right here under writing it says fifty five fifty right now 55 59 let's wait until that gets into over 16,000 and see if it keeps working that right speed is pathetic but again for usb2 don't expect much on your right speed we've been doing this now for almost 11 minutes to get six Meg's copied so I want you to think about that if you had a six megabyte file I'm sorry five six thousand megabytes so six we've copied six gigs it'll be six gigs in 12 minutes right no it's gonna get six gigs here in just a minute so right there six there we go 6,000 megabytes is 6 gigabytes in 11 minutes and 19 seconds now normally you should be able to copy 6 gigabytes to a flash drive much much faster than that how much faster we're gonna find out here in a minute but let's I'm gonna let this continue to run here for just a little bit longer bonkers Hann bonkers AM bonkers man has contributed 10 pounds he says I'm very curious about that ap Tools Exe what does Windows Defender say about it in the logs well you know what that's something to do let's take a look and see what the defender says about it I just see the virus warning and I didn't really need to read it any further than that I felt pretty confident hold on a second there's someone other I've been a weird view setting issue here which I don't understand why there that looks better don't windows security centers say about it let's go in here and see I don't want to setup onedrive they'll dismiss that wall no no no device security performance and health options virus and threat protection ransomware protection [Music] where's the where's the log settings you guys are gonna tell me where the log is I don't know where it is probably have to go in the control panel just let me just look around a little more let's go to control me and then under said under security updates in security Windows security open Windows Defender security Center no we're right back to square one again I don't see where they've hidden the log files at our new Microsoft you keep moving stuff around I can't find it well under the Event Viewer okay so what they've done now they've moved it to Event Viewer let's try to give that viewer windows logs security it's not in here everything looks good here I'm not seeing it let's try back in the control panel security windows security threat protection settings notifications I don't see it alright just gonna close this out for a minute we go back into the chat oh did I just stop that gosh darn it I have to start over now I think I can't figure out if I closed that I think I did select target USB Drive what happened something just happened let me close this out I gotta restart it I was using the wrong keyboard and I meant to get myself out of full screen mode you know I hit the wrong button it's not letting me do anything close it out again and it's just highlight all this this is the files that it wrote to the flash drive we're gonna have to start over unfortunately because I made a boo-boo all right let's go back yeah put it on English select the USB Drive and write and verify should light up you know now we're getting somewhere sorry guys I got to start that over all right let me go back to the chat room let me do this right this time and let's take a look at where we can find the logs Josh wants to know if I donate through the tech vet's website he gets a hundred percent of the money no Pay Pal takes about three percent of whatever you contribute but if you donate through super chat YouTube takes about 30 percent and then makes me wait up to two months before I ever get it with no record of you giving it in no way for me to refund if such a situation exists so with the tech vets I get the money faster they take less out and I have the option of refunding Patrick manis says go to event viewer application service logs Microsoft Windows Windows Defender up my god did they bury it six layers deep I wonder why I can't find it okay let's try again I gotta go fullscreen again alright so I want to go event viewer gives Long's application service loss Microsoft Windows Windows Defender there we go finally that's the information you were looking for right there virus win32 virus BMC severity is severe category is virus that's what it had thank you in the chat for helping me find that okay so that's good to know and let me just close this back down we're done with this information let's go back to seeing how our flash drive is progressing it's gonna be a while okay so well that runs let me go back to full screen here so that I can talk to you guys and we'll just let that run the more I play with it the odds of me screwing it up again go up so this is going to take longer and more I play what about a case badge is that through PayPal - yeah if you want a case badge you would submit a minimum of twenty dollars through the donate link at either the link below this video or at Tech - pets.com anytime you submit any amount you'll always get a response from me typically within 24 hours where I say you know I acknowledge your contribution and thank you for your support and if it's $20 or more than I ask if you want a case badge please respond with your mailing address as it should appear on the envelope I generally mail the badges out on Monday so if you order on a Tuesday you won't mail out for six more days before leaving go out in the mail so be patient it will arrive if you haven't received a case badge after oh I'd say 14 days send me drop me a line and just let me know you didn't get it it may have been that it slipped through the cracks or maybe it was lost in the mail they've only had one lost no two lost in the mail so far so out of like 200 badges that's it's not likely yours is gonna get lost in the mail it's more likely I just it somehow got lost or on my part you know I try and organize everybody it's kind of hard to keep track of it I'm doing it all by hand there's no automated process here so I try and put everybody into a certain folder for that but if for some reason I didn't drag your name into that folder and you got missed just drop me a line and let me know I don't think I've done that to anybody but just in case do I send them worldwide yeah the case badges will go anywhere anywhere in the world yeah Sharon said it once took three days for her to get her case badge from Arizona to United Kingdom I've never heard of it going that fast before but some days the post office is on it and some tie it most days not so much but he does get there you should open your own company called holzman computers i already have my own company it already has a name and has had a name for 25 years so I got that covered but thanks for the suggestion Colin Hilton's as I bought a second to Silverstone MSO nine enclosure yesterday and when I opened it up the slider fell out now I can't get it to slide the instruction leaflet is useless the slider just sits right on top you probably won't be able to get it to slide until you put the cover on it but when you put the little button which i think is what you're referring to the button sits in a little recess on the top if you try and put the button on the wrong side well obviously you can't give you about because MDOT to drive would get in the way you could always take apart your first one very slowly to see how the slider moves upward and downward and and the other thing I would do is take your if you've already installed an AM am if you've already installed an MDOT to drive in it take the MDOT to drive out of the one that the button came out of and put the button back in and just kind of hold it together you don't have to screw it back together and make sure the button still works there's an earlier version of the MSO nine that's just not quite wide enough and so when you put certain m2s in it the button won't move anymore if that's the case contact silverstone and they will send you the upgraded version that they've just Mel it out another little tiny bit it was a problem I had on the first generation MSO nine they sent to me the minute I put the flash drive in it or the the m-dot to drive in it the button wouldn't move anymore and they acknowledged they were aware of it and they sent me a new one and that's this is the new one I've got right here and it was the same flash keep calling it a flash drive it's an a date at two hundred and forty gig em to drive and it works it slides in and out nice and easy it was the drive it's this enclosure just wasn't milled out quite enough apparently when they designed it they didn't really test this very well between different manufacturers the m2 drives are supposed to be 22 millimeters wide apparently there's some discrepancy and how they measure 22 millimeters and some are just a little bit wider than that or something I don't know what Silverstone is doing over there but they've addressed it so Colin you may have gotten a first-generation so that's why I say the button goes in pretty it's a pretty obvious place where the button goes and then you know take your m2 drive out and then just push this back together and keep it clamped and see that it moves back and forth you won't see anything happen if there's no blast well yeah you should still see the USB Drive pop out not anything about it you should still see the USB Drive pop up and as long as that moves and slides like it should you've got the button in the right place then open it back up put your m2 back in it close it back up again without screws and then see if the button still moves the button won't move you need to contact Silverstone an RMA your device or if its brand new send it back to the distributor but if they just turn around and send you another gen one unit it's not going to do any good that's why I would go directly to Silverstone they have excellent support they'll take care of you I promise they'll take care of you if they don't you let me know and I'll be surprised that I it'll get taken care of Michael Capps is just want to thank you for all you do and I appreciate it well thank you Michael Douglas Biggers has posted a write-up from Symantec about that particular virus that was on the flash drive let's take a look at that what does it say I will read it aloud for you guys the W 32 virus is a virus that infects executable files some variants also infect ASP HTML and PHP files the virus has worm behavior and spreads by copying itself to fixed removable in network drives it also opens a back door on the compromised computer the W 32.8 is an entry point obscuring polymorphic file infecting virus the virus infects executable files with dot exe and SCR extensions by hooking into system api's and as such whenever a file is accessed it may be infected executable files that have been infected by W 32 dot virus may be damaged and therefore it may not execute correctly there are certain variants of the W 32 virus that are in addition capable of infecting ASP HTML and PHP files the virus inserts a malicious htl HTML iframe tag into the files which causes a copy of the virus to be downloaded and executed when the pages are displayed in a vulnerable web browser it has worm-like characteristics and that it attempts to spread by copying itself to fixed removable and network drives the virus also copies an autorun.inf file that causes the virus to be executed whenever the drives are accessed on computers that have autoplay enabled the virus may also spread when infected files are distributed via file sharing networks it opens a backdoor that allows a remote attacker to perform operations on a comprised compromised computer the backdoor operates by way of Internet Relay Chat or IRC with communication encrypted both ways the backdoor allows the remote attacker to address compromised computers individually or as an entire group it also allows additional files to be downloaded and executed on the compromised computer which means that the threat is infinitely flexible and extensible files that have been observed to be downloaded to include misleading applications and copies of other malware it is likely that w 32 dot V root has been written to provide a channel for the mass installation of paper install software with the authors profiting by way of affiliate programs so yeah just your typical ordinary everyday bland unimaginative uncreate of boring virus virus raiders are some of the dumbest people in the world when you think of a software programmer you generally think of somebody who's smart but these virus writers are the opposite of smart what they do is they they take something that's already been written and they're just little script kiddies they just copy little bits here and there and they don't do very good testing and they're often it causes a lot of like blue screen and computer crashes look a good virus is one you don't know you've got and a good virus writer is very hard to come by in the world today most of the virus writers I'd say ninety-nine point seven percent of all virus writers probably have a third a grade three levitation the education they have about an eight year olds mentality in education intellectually they're they're not all there upstairs you know they have socialization problems they are broken people they're they're lost in a system you know the world so populated my theory is that they start by in society pretty much ignored and neglected and they lack any sort of morals or values and the the intelligence and the adult-like capacity of empathy or even the adult like adult ish that looking forward right the adults generally educated adults always think about tomorrow and next week they think ahead they think towards the future many of these virus raiders they only think about today they think like animals you know an animal in the wild just needs to eat it doesn't know what its gonna eat or when it's just you know if you see a bird flying and this guy it's looking for food or it's looking for materials to make a nest and when it has that then it can rest for the rest of the day it may even be looking for shelter to get out of the weather and it'll worry about tomorrow tomorrow this is what wild animals do the basically what I'm telling you is most of the virus writers have the level of intelligence and the level of instinct as a wild animal you're not dealing with somebody like you and I who has intellect and understands basically the difference between checkers and chess right so checkers you just thinking about your next move chess you're thinking several moves ahead as a result the benefit to people that are you know normally intelligent you can identify these viruses very very easily very easily most of the time they're very obvious and they usually don't work well and they're usually very easy to remove so that's the good side the good side is that smart people aren't writing viruses with a few exceptions generally speaking the smart people aren't writing viruses these are these are dumb dumb people and that's good for us smart people because it's just easy they're just it's hard to take them seriously all you got to do is pay attention in most cases of if you're paying attention and reading what's on your screen you can avoid infections like this just saying because they were idiots he wrote them if they weren't idiots it would get right by you so all right just want to clear that up Nikolas says I have that exact same shirt well you have good taste in a tire Nikolas see stemmermann thinks this is probably an 8 gig flash drive at most let's see how it's progressing let's see where we're at on it let me bring back over the desktop here oh it's gonna take forever come on where are we at on this eight megabytes Oh a megabytes a second so we've got eight-and-a-half gigs written to it so far and we're just let it run just a little bit longer we'll see what happens but you know even if this was a 256 gig flash drive even if it was would you want to wait this long to copy your data to it one of my youtube videos alone one of my videos is 77 gigs in size now if I was gonna copy that YouTube video to this flash drive and we've done eight gigs in 16 minutes multiply that times 10 so it would take a hundred and 60 minutes to copy one file so that's two and a half hours that same file copied to this flash drive will probably happen oh I would guess under 10 minutes but we're gonna find out for sure so while I'm waiting let's go back to the chat and take your questions Carrie do you think I should run the trim command for SSD windows 7 in Windows 10 should do that for you but if you want to run it it's not going to hurt anything you can certainly do it and when you run the trim command be sure to wait a couple minutes before you restart the computer the the trim command will come up and say I'm all done almost instantly but in the meantime the drive is processing you need the late let the drive sit for about 2 or 3 minutes after running the trim command before you shut down or restart your computer hi Kerry it's Paul you are full of what am i full of great information you your views have inspired me to build my own computer and I will do more builds in the future that's awesome I got a call today from a gentleman named John and John would like to buy the nuka-cola computer that I'm about to build you can type in nuka-cola NZXT in your search engine to see what I'm talking about but John wants a $4,100 computer he wants 32 gigs of ram he wants dual samsung 970 nvme drives he wants the n7 motherboard from NZXT with the custom metal plate that matches the nuka-cola case he wants the GT up sorry the r-tx 2080 he wants I don't know it's gonna be expensive and so I said yeah that's not what I was gonna build cuz I was going to invest in it myself and I was thinking to invest that kind of money for something that I don't know if anybody's gonna buy it and he's already signed up for it so it's all his so we're just gonna wait for the graphics card to become available I told him to go ahead and order the CPU now because a lot of this is made up of limited edition components so he wants to use the the i7 8086 K which is a limited edition so I told him you better order that right away the case I've already ordered it's only one of 2,000 of those that they're making the motherboard cover isn't even available yet so when those become available I told them we need to order one of those right away and then I would wait until the graphics card is available and then order everything else at the same time so we're probably looking at early October mid October because the GTX 28 II won't be out till the 20th of September I want to say and there's gonna be a big rush on it initially so I would say another two to three weeks after that the second shipment of cards should come in it should be much easier to get one so yeah Michael Shaw says Carrie I upgraded the hard-disk drives in my eight year old laptop and my five year old netbook with SanDisk SSDs and then I reinstalled Windows and they run like new machines this is truly a great way to upgrade a PC absolutely absolutely William Dawson says you helped me decide to build the computer I'm using now very awesome well Bill has joined us hi Bill I wish bill could join me on camera Collin says I just tried your suggestion on my silverstone MSO night enclosure it works fine without the Samsung 250 gig drive in it thank you for your help yeah so it sounds like you got one of those early generation MSO 9s go to the silverstone website contact support explain to them that the drive that the the switch won't move with the MS the m2 I want to call it heme SATA with the m2 drive installed they already know this problem they shouldn't give you a hard time or ask you any further questions other than giving you instructions on sending it back or that I didn't even know if they wanted back to be frank they might just send you another one so and bear in mind that that MSO 9 does work with some m2 drives I don't know how you know I buy them but I know it didn't work in my a data and they did acknowledge it right away and this was when the product was first released so they'll take care of you and if they don't you let me now call him Leonard Roca says hello from Madeira California hello Leonard icefrog said my hard drive died without any warning signs most hard drives do die just like a light bulb you know one day you you could have a light bulb working for months or years and you go to turn it on one day and Boop doesn't work you can even put a brand new light bulb in and then turn it on and it burns out hard drives and electronics it's all the same when you have a backup of all your data who cares you know so your hard drive died so what hard drives are cheap it's pretty easy to restore backup especially if you use a Cronus it take less than 10 minutes to put your drive right back to the way it was and there's other reasons why you could lose your data and somebody could steal your computer or your computer could be involved in a fire or a theft or a flood or ransomware are other types of viruses and all kinds of things can happen bad windows updates corruptions bad driver updates and what do you do even though the hard drives perfectly fine your without your data this is why we make backups so I hope you had a backup you replace the drive you restore the backup it's not a big deal really isn't hard drive reliability is really a non-issue for somebody who has backups Brian Henry says hello from North Carolina welcome and Brian can i uninstall the samsung Magicians software after I enable raid mode yes yes you can Patrick says hello from Germany welcome in Patrick John Stephen says hello hi John tactical panic says I love cloud backup and that's why Michael sparks says greetings from Cambridge in the UK did you know 51% of my viewers only 51% of my viewers are in the United States I think that's pretty interesting Lucas says hello from Sweden hello Lucas spider-man says I mean rapid mode rapid mode requires the Samsung magicians software if without the Samsung magician software there is no rapid mode yeah you can't have one without the other but raid won't do you any good this I mean this the Samsung magician software will not be able to communicate with your drive in raid mode so it does make sense to not use the Samsung magician software if you're configuring your SSD and raid because it'll do nothing for you it can't update the firmware it can't do anything and at that point you might as well just uninstall it so yeah Patrick says hello from Switzerland hi Patrick another Patrick says hello from Belgium dance forever says hello from Ohio Michael Archer says hello from York in the UK Nikolas says hello from Quebec in Albert says greetings from Mexico and Telmo says hello from Portugal Roy is joining us from clung to a Thailand I don't know how to say that but we'll just say Thailand and Beru is joining us from Poland ghostly 1986 from Edmonton Alberta Canada and Charles Eastwood Wilson says hello from Liverpool PC Gamer says hello from Newfoundland another Canadian viewer Randy says I just PayPal's you 10 bucks thanks for your help throughout the years well thank you Randy thank you I appreciate that's very thoughtful Agee gaming joins us from Illinois Jay Hilton says he's from Shropshire UK the last job Ivanov says greetings from Maryland we also have Albania and Gibraltar in there as well as Maui and Serbia Syracuse New York the UK New Zealand Greece Canada st. Louis North Carolina Canada again Northumberland UK again from the UK Roosevelt welcome says hello from Louisiana hey guys thanks for joining thank you for joining if you were from Finland Wales Australia Ohio Ontario Scotland Holland Norway Wow Romania all right guys in Slovakia thank you for joining thank you appreciate it I have traveled the world and I've never even left my house let's see how we're doing over here okay let's see how we're doing over here let's take a look how are we doing here so far we've written 14 gigs in 27 minutes Wow yeah it's gonna be a while we're gonna let it run just a bit longer I want that total amount written to be over 16,000 and then we'll run the verify back on it and see what it does so almost almost ready for the next test just a little bit longer ghostly 1986 says I'd like to thank you for all the videos and keep it up you insist you inspired me to be a computer tech that's awesome awesome do you still recommend using ccleaner well windows 10 has its own storage cleanup now making ccleaner redundant but if you want to run it go for it just always make sure you download the latest version and I recommend the portable version it doesn't make sense to install software to clean up your computer because by installing software you're adding more to your computer the idea is to clean it not add more to it so if you're going to use it use the portable version bleach bit is a better product I think then ccleaner it's more thorough but either see cleaner or bleach bit if you want to clean those 10 piles up sure carry Samsung magician says rapid mode is not supported on my 970 Pro you know I've never been able to figure out the math on which Samsung drives support rapid mode in which don't never been able to figure that out and I think rapid mode wasn't possible on Windows 10 I don't know if they fixed that make sure you're running the latest version of the Samsung Magician software which I believe is 5.2 samsung doesn't really automate the updates on their software very well I've seen machines running older versions and I check for updates and it says you have the latest update and then I go to the Samsung website and see if the version is like 5.2 and what I've got is 5.1 or 5.0 so maybe it's because Samsung doesn't think it's critical or maybe the software update checking is broken I don't know but I would definitely make sure you're running 5.2 that's at samsung.com forward slash samsung SSD and that'll take you right to all the software page there just says low from Helland in Cornwall in the UK awesome and Robin joined from Thailand okay just check on something here give me a minute guys you just see if there was a package delivered because the dogs were freaking out nope they're just freaking out for nothing huh are you freaking up for nothing boys false alarm okay all right so getting back to this test chain says I've got a crack in X 72 radiator on the front of my case and two fans on the top is this enough airflow sure sure why not do you need a raid set up to run Intel's octane or whatever that is for hard drives I've not set up an intel octane I don't believe it's worth the money so I don't know the answer to your question Arnold says greetings from The Hague in the Netherlands welcome Arnold Cyprien says they did fix rapid mode in Windows 10 but I think you have to have the latest Samsung magician software for the fix that's why I'm saying make sure you're reading the latest version of the Samsung magician and don't trust the check for updates just go and look at the website it should be 5.2 last I checked ghostly says I've been watching you since you made that computer the gaming computer with the coolermaster 922 HAF case which I believe was back in 2009 has it been that long already where does the time go KP tech help in review says might the picture of you is blurry in full-screen please fix that's not something I can fix that's something you have to fix you see what you have done is you have gone fullscreen and reduced your resolution in doing so you need to adjust the resolution on your screen using your keyboard in your mouse to go to a higher res I can't do that for you you'll have to do that yourself I am broadcasting in 1080p so if you're not seeing 1080p that's on you it's not on me I do have to make a video to show people how to use YouTube I've joked about it sarcastically but it appears that the reality is I'm gonna have to do it I'm gonna have to show people the basic functions of YouTube because they can't be bothered and then you know if I can avoid these kind of situations and empower people that I mean that's why I'm here to do that I just didn't think basic YouTube usage was honestly something I would have to do but it's just happening too often now people don't understand how they're not getting notified people don't understand what subscribing means they don't understand what the Bell icon is they don't understand how to look at my video library they don't understand how to search for what they're looking for in YouTube they don't understand resolution settings and it's all real basic simple stuff to most of us but there's some of us out there that just need that helping hand so I think before the end of the week I'll be doing a YouTube how-to on YouTube that's kind of weird isn't it John Stevens's Kerry I enjoy your vids and I'm an old man and I've learned from you thank you well John I'm an old man - so see we have that in common Kim says the bell icon was broken for a while you know what I'm not surprised to hear that I mean it's the first I've heard but I I believe it I'm not surprised you can also follow me on Twitter as well and so anytime that I post a new video YouTube now has a tie-in to Twitter so that I don't have to do any extra effort as soon as I publish publicly the thumbnail in the video description should go out in the tweet I don't think it's doing it on the live broadcast but after the live broadcast is available I think it tweets at that call me Mac has contributed 20 pesos he says here's 20 pesos good sir love your stream well thank you call me Mac do you have any more computer repair videos coming yes there's a computer being shipped to me it's unfortunate you know I never liked the situation but it's what's all I can do there's a gentleman who reached out to me said he built a computer from watching one of my videos a couple years ago I think it's like a z170 chipset and it was working fine and all of a sudden like he'll open the browser and the whole computer shuts down on him and he's changed he sent the motherboard back to gigabyte and they sent him back another board but they didn't tell him anything no information just here's a board he put it back in same problem he he took the computer to a repair shop and paid $50 and they told him you need a new motherboard and it'll be seven hundred dollars and change and he's like oh no so he paid 50 bucks basically to be told nothing so I got the order wrong then he sent the motherboard in himself got the RMA got it set it back that cost 50 bucks I don't know why it was so much but I think I suspect that he went to one of these postal stores not an official post office or you know he probably went to like a mailbox store and they charge a lot of money system made no difference symptoms still exists he changed his power supply spent over a hundred dollars on a new power supply only to find the same problem still exists and then I had him swap ram modules to do ran module at a time and again no difference in the symptoms so I'm scratching my head that doesn't make any sense it's weird that it just started this all of a sudden he never had any problems for a year and a half and if if he did have these problems one of those things should have fixed it so at that point I said the only thing I can suggest did you find somebody good locally you know find it through a referral of a friend or somebody who who's had experience with the tech but they trust or you can always mail it to me and he said here's the tracking number it's in the mail to you he's frustrated he is one of these people it's like I regret building it and you never I never hear somebody say I regret building him this is a very first time anybody's ever said I regret building this and the reason he's saying it is it cost him a lot of money he had to sort of you know negotiate with the wife about spending this money and building it himself and it was all well and good for the first year and a half and now he's in this situation and yeah so he's gonna be spending about a hundred and thirty-five dollars to ship it to me or he's already spent i'll you'll have to spend it again for me to ship it back when that's going fedex ground and then i'll do the work for free but if he needs any parts he'll have to pay for that as well but we'll see let that repair i think that system is due to arrive here this Thursday so I'm not sure when I'll get the video done in a perfect world I would do it on Thursday I don't know when on Thursday it's going to arrive it arrives in the morning if it arrives in the evening sometimes FedEx delivers a day early if everything's going quick once I have it and verify that there's no damage to it we'll get it up here on the counter and we'll diagnose it that is coming up soon that'll be the next repair as far as I know Mike says hello from Montreal I'm 63 years old I love your videos keep up the good job thank you Mike Vern Mahoney wonders if he might have a stuck key on the keyboard can you imagine if it was something that simple will the repair be done live yes trying to all repairs live anytime I can doesn't do you much good there's not much educational content and saying here's what I did to fix it you've got to watch the diagnostic process it's really annoying when people go oh that thing that he found out that was causing the problem that's the thing I would have checked first okay you're better than me and you're gonna make a video that nobody's gonna learn anything from because the first thing you checked was the problem and there's no educational value in that so you get these commenters who just don't get what I'm doing and you know it's the Internet what are you gonna do if you worked on many machines with Linux installed I have never worked on the machine with Linux installed there's generally the Linux community is self-sustaining they they generally help each other people that use a free operating system are generally not people that are big spenders I mean as far as they're not gonna hire somebody to do something they can do themselves that is the Linux community by definition so to pay somebody to do something with Linux is the antithesis of using Linux all right let's check back on this machine and see how we have progressed let's take a look at what is going on over here little screen so I can see it alright we've written 22 gigs to the flash drive and I'm gonna stop this let's just hit a bort and let's hit verify let's see how much it verifies even that's gonna take 18 minutes just to read now normally on about even on a USB to flash drive the read is much much faster than the right but here we're not seeing much difference and this is an example of you know buying cheap and getting cheap so we're gonna let that run on the verification process now and let me go back to chat and we can continue our discussion of answering your questions and we'll just let that run right there you guys can alert me if you see something oh oh oh oh oh oh you know what I need to go back to this machine you just reminded me on the bill on the bill they did which is this computer here which is the i7 8086 k you guys were asking what i was upgrading from and i didn't know i just knew it was a core i5 from 2011 i went ahead and pulled that information Stirling three three seven ones contributed $1 Thank You sterling Thank You sweetie contribution so yeah I what I did is I took some screenshots here and let's take a look at those together so this is this is the machine I was upgrading it was a Core i5 6 6-1 Clarkdale chip and see if we can just go to the next picture that's the motherboard the gigabyte H 55 M - s 2 v board it had two sticks of four gig ram so total of 8 gigs of ddr3 RAM and that ran at 667 megahertz 10700 drum g.skill the drive that was in it is an OCC vertex for 128 gig SSD remember I've never seen a failed SSD it's got 39,000 and 110 hours on that drive it runs flawlessly that's how many years and it's only been powered on 237 times this customer always leaves the computers on 24/7 but that's a lot of power on hours and the drive runs perfectly fine for those of you worried about drive longevity you can see that SSDs running great we would probably want to replace the SSD because the capacity is so low and the performance on the SSD is not very good if you look 283 on the read and 273 on the right so that's probably SATA 2 speeds which you know could be a limitation of the motherboard more than the SSD but the new board that we installed or that I installed Friday has that a data and B me drive which is much much much much faster so there you go that is all of the specs that you guys were asking for and I'm gonna be doing another one of those here identical I have to do two of them so I got one done and we got to do another one and hopefully I will get to that when I'm done here if there's enough time remaining these tests are taking much longer I should have known I should have done the test last night but I wanted you to see me open the package is live on camera because you saw me open the package you saw me plug it in and you saw the virus you know that there's no camera trickery there this is 100% real authentic and genuine this is the same experience you should expect if you bought the same product using the link that I provided in the video notes below this video I don't recommend you buy it but if you want to use it as a teaching tool well you know where to get it Amazon continues to sell them despite all the reviews telling Amazon that this is a fake product I don't recall seeing any saying they got a virus but I didn't read all of them either and that's why these reviews can come in handy but keep in mind a lot of reviews are written by people that are paid to write reviews so don't believe the review is a hundred percent unless there's thousands of them then you can you can know they didn't hire thousands of people to write reviews they might hire dozens but they won't hire thousands there still seems some Linux discussion in the chat I really it really bothers me when people come into my Channel and tell me what I should be doing this channel has never been a Linux channel it never will be a Linux channel and if you're looking for a Linux channel go to a Linux channel I mean that doesn't need to be said I don't care what operating system you run I don't mind everybody's here welcome but if you're running Mac could be running a Android if you're running Chrome OS or anyway you're in the wrong place if you're looking for information for those things what we do here is hardware and Windows based machines because that's what the majority of the world uses if the majority of the world was using anything else then that's what we would be doing here on the channel so just so you guys know what to expect and I don't want you to be disappointed so there's plenty of Linux channels on YouTube and if that's what you're looking for you're at the wrong place what's the news about the cola NZXT PC well Arnold you can hit the rewind button there and below your video and I've already discussed that and I apparently you weren't here and you missed it but I'm not going to repeat it because DVR mode is on and you can win back okay low carry I too have a PC I built about seven years ago and after blowing out all the dust it's now a big doorstop I replace the power supply at stone-dead I live in Phoenix and would love for you to look at it I'd love to look at it that's from hip tech you know if you are in Phoenix and you have a computer you're looking to have upgraded or repaired I'm happy to do the work for free under certain conditions and one is that you would bring it to me and you will appear on camera with me if you don't want to appear on camera that's fine I will charge you a fee like I would charge anybody else let's see the way you would reach me to arrange that you would email me and if you go to the tech that's page you'll see my email address there if you click on the about page here on YouTube you'll find my email address there please only email me if you have a business inquiry don't email me with your tech support questions I'm not your personal tech support rep but unless you pay me to be that person I'm not doing it for free I'm Way too busy and I hope you understand so if you're interested in having work done then please please email me if you're looking for free information please do not email me I don't have time I'm busy trying to help people you know that keep me in business so I can keep making videos it's not a it's not a it's not a matter of being a jerk it's just there's only so many hours in a day and it's not fair to make somebody wait who's paying and take somebody who isn't paying and have them consume my time so the email address is right there on the about page when you go to YouTube you click on my name on YouTube click on about and you can get the email address that way or go to tech - bats comm and my email address is listed there as well but I would like to help you absolutely Krista Rubin says I watch on my Smart TV and the DVR function doesn't work well understand when you're watching a live video it's a live video and after it's done and most of my live videos are made available to watch publicly at which point they're no different than any other video that you would watch so you know if you've missed the first few minutes and you can't rewind you'll always be able to watch it after YouTube processes it the longer the video is live the longer YouTube takes to process it so it's usually a few hours sometimes if everything goes sideways and the chat rooms out of control and the trolls are just taking over sometimes those broadcasts are just simply erased there's no point promoting the trolls and such in the channel and there's so much new content I make every well not every day but almost every day if it's if it's not up to my level of standard then if you miss the live broadcast you just miss that episode but if I'm erasing it it's probably because there was nothing worthwhile in it anyway that happens sometimes it's live and anytime you go live you know you got good shows and you got bad shows let's just hope I have my good what's that battlin okay [Music] what's the next step with this office computer I got to do the cable management I've got to get Microsoft Office installed and activated I got to figure out what version they have and pull their product activation key from the old computer I've got to configure it for their network in their workgroup and configure their network share on it I've got to install the printers they print too and then I think apart from cable management putting the cover on it and delivering it back plugging in and hooking it up and waiting for the phone call that follows about you know whatever the whatever it is I missed sometimes they have software there they have to reinstall like quicken or QuickBooks I can't copy that they will have to reinstall and reactivate to do that if this is one of the machines that has that and sometimes they use processes of not aware of so I don't just put everything back the way it was because a lot of times they have stuff on there they don't so I put back the things I know they use and let them call me and tell me what they're missing that way when it's all said and done we don't have anything extra on a brand new machine bogging it down or taking up valuable SSD space but it was a good question and thank you for asking can I appear on the show with a mask on no what are you ashamed of yourself are you in the witness protection program no you're not No don't be a coward hi I'm Alan from Plymouth UK you're in Phoenix what time is it there well just go to google and type in Phoenix time and it will tell you the time it's very easy you can also see the weather when there'd be a bottleneck on the DMI installing to nvme drives generally speaking a motherboard that supports two nvme drives won't bottleneck it so if you see a motherboard that only has one envy me or MDOT to PCI Express slot it's probably because that's all of the DMI can support on the thread ripper bill that had three because it can support three with the thread ripper chip it's not like the manufacturers just make this stuff up so if the board has two and both of them can take Envy me then it's designed to handle two nvme drives it shouldn't bottleneck yeah new egg Stephan Cisneros posted a link that new egg has a special today only for a 240 gig two and a half inch solid state drive SATA 3 solid state drive 46 dollars a 99 cents with free shipping today only that's the adata ultimate su 650 240 gig solid-state drive for forty six dollars and ninety nine cents that's a really good deal although 240 gig is still pretty small you should be able to buy a 500 gig drive a solid-state normal solid-state drive for under $100 and in fact Intel 660 P&V me drive uses something called qlc so SSD drives are made up of different types of Technology there's mlc SLC and TLC and those are your performance chipsets if you go to ql c you get much degraded performance however it's basically the same price it's a SATA based m2 drive of the same capacity but it runs much faster not as fast as a regular nvme drive that's running TLC type memory but running the ql c memory it'll run maybe a third is fast but that's still 50% faster than the fastest SATA drive you can get for the same price on the same capacity that's something isn't it I'll be testing that very soon because I have one of those drives and I'm going to show you obviously it will never never run any faster than that it's a limitation of the technology but it's a way to get the price down to make it competitive against the SATA options to go envy me for the same price and same capacity again not getting the full nvme speed but getting much faster than what do we get through SATA free pretty cool I think it's pretty ingenious for Intel to to find that little niche ooh we have errors don't we we already have read errors that didn't take long let's take a look at what is going on with this drive it says the media is likely to be defective yep that didn't take we didn't have to go too far in for that message to appear I'd have to pre play the video to figure out where the data was lost it looks like it's a 16 gigabyte drive so if you read the screen it says 15 point 2 gigabyte is okay and in it everything beyond that is bad so it looks like it's a 16 gig drive that they falsely are reporting as 256 and so it gives you the impression that it's writing everything okay without errors that's a it's just a way of hacking the Windows operating system and yeah it's not good so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take a screenshot of this let's see alt function print screen and let's go to paint and I will send this this will probably be review on Amazon for this and I'll share this picture let's save that as a JPEG and we'll call this fake 256 gig flash it's let's go to pictures save and then let's go to the pictures directory and open that up in I love the Windows 10 photo viewer I love that I don't have to load Photoshop to do this simple stuff that because I would have Photoshop and I would have to do this in Photoshop takes a long time to load it's a big program I love that this is built into Windows 10 I'm done save it perfect and that's gonna be part of my review on Amazon all right I don't need to take this test any further than this now so let's abort it and close this I don't even will care do we you know as far as I'm concerned ejecting this flash drive I don't need to worry about properly ejecting it I'm just gonna yank it who cares and that was in this package I'm gonna make sure it goes back in the package I got it in so that one's going back the things I do for you people I hope you appreciate it let's do the sand disc drive oh wait I'm forgetting something you know what I don't put this back yet I just thought of something let's let's run crystal disc mark crystal disc mark and let's see what the read and write speeds are but in order for that to work I'm gonna have to erase everything on the flash drive which I want to do before I send it back anyway alright so let's go back and do that now yeah so let's just highlight all these files it ctrl a and delete and then let's bring up crystal disk mark let's choose the flash drive and let's do all the tests let's see what that comes out to I know it's gonna be bad it's gonna be laughable if you want to be able to just grab a part of the screen TechSmith the people who make Camtasia they make a product called Snagit snag it's really good to just grab exactly what you want to grab without having to edit it in a photo editor Wow I'm still not seeing any numbers on this thing it's very slow any troubleshooting for a write-protected flash drive there's you can google that there's some things you can do to try but most of the time a lot of write-protected flash drives you just throw them away and buy new ones they're so inexpensive let's see the windows snippet tool works great I'll have to look into that I don't know about the windows snippet tool I still do things the old-fashioned way what kind of read and write speeds kids should we expect from a USB flash drive well it sort of depends and that's the point of this video it has a lot to do with how much you spend on the flash drive generally speaking when you shop for a flash drive the read and write speeds should be advertised at least with any USB 3.0 flash drive if the speeds are not mentioned there's probably a reason why what is the command for the snipping tool Carrie do you have an i7 for sale please let me know you're gonna have to be more specific you want just a chip in which generation the latest you could just go to new Aegon buy an i7 chip or are you looking for a computer and if so are you looking for a used computer or are you looking for a new computer I do not have anything used that's an i7 Louise me has contributed $5 I hope you're having a good day Carrie well I am now Thank You Louise is the same as snipping tool' goes back to window so I'm never used it so apart from me googling it you guys could just tell me how do I activate the snipping tool and then I'll try it you know one of the things that happens as you get older if you learn a way that works for you generally you just keep using that way it's not a big deal but if there's an easier way I'd like to know type s n L s ni oh okay snip gotcha let's let's let me play with that while this is running I've never done that before let's do that full screen here so I can see I'm gonna go to the Start menu and type snip huh just say P snipping tool I guess I will do I've never done this so let's see new and then what do I do drag the cursor around the area you want to capture so if I want to capture this well that's that's good and then can I save it or do I have to transfer it save ask and it save as a JPEG yep now is there a shortcut key so I don't have to type in snip although I suppose I was typing in paint before right so it's just changing what I'm typing still I mean if you're gonna be lazy why not be a hundred percent can I be any lazier can I just tell Cortana to do it thanks guys you taught me something why should I sound surprised you guys are like we teach you something every day carry yeah you usually do wind shift s let me try wind shift s and I have to remember to use it win shift s whoa nice all right very good that's what I'm talking about now if I do that about a hundred times I'll remember it so thank you Joe Smith and Thomas Carter and everybody else Jordan one seven seven six oh six for the wind shift s very nice there Inasa look at that twenty two point nine one megabytes per second on the reads nine point two two seven on the writes Anthony Wilsons contributed one pound ninety nine Thank You Anthony I'm gonna take a real quick break and we're gonna just let this finish I'll come back when this is done we're gonna go back just to the screen itself I'll be right back you okay we should almost be done here that point zero zero seven is pathetic Wow I don't think I've ever seen numbers that low before in my life Cindy Brady too says how did Dave like the computer you built Dave dave was Dave said he said I got the computer home you're right it's so quiet I can't tell if it's on without looking to see the lights he didn't mention anything about the speed yet he was still in a hurry trying to get everything set up once he got home but he's overall he's very happy with the machine I haven't really felt it up with him beyond that he was missing his favourites from Google Chrome so I had to hook his old system back up copy those files and then using remote access software copy his favorite spec over there's no big deal it was very quick and then that's the last I've heard and usually in my business no news is good news so looking back now it looks like the test is finally completed those are our final numbers let me just let me close this out let's try that snipping tool here for the first time so let's see what was it window shift s yes and then let's highlight what I want which will be right like this where did it go maybe that's just not gonna work for me maybe it just copied it to memory let me go to paint paste it maybe where did it go yeah okay let's save this as a JPEG and we'll call it two 50s what did we call the other one flash crystal disk [Applause] save that yeah see how it does that how it in paint how it I have to edit it now I have to crop it so apparently using ctrl shift s isn't going to do me much good I'm gonna have to type snip you guys in the chat can tell me in a minute I can't look at the chat and do this full screen at the same time so if you're saying it now I won't be able to see it until I'm done here it looks good close enough done save I'll close it out very good okay we're gonna just keep we'll keep these files here let me make sure that the flash drive is empty before I end up sending it back to Amazon we're good we can safely eject it I don't need to safely eject this thing I don't really care about it it's a piece of junk the best thing that I could do is damage it from not properly ejecting it it'll do the next person a favor all right put that back in there now let's give this some basis for a comparison so that's the first one I'm gonna stick this over here out of sight out of mind because I don't want to confuse it for this other one let's grab the SanDisk SSD now this is also made in China and let's see I'll hit how it performs let me plug it in I'm just picking a random USB slot I'm not if I'm using the same USB slot it's by coincidence um but it really doesn't matter which one you use and then let's try and run the same test again I've got a bunch of stuff on here don't I oh I know that was that was what I copied all of Dave's stuff to this was the so I had to take all his files move it onto the flash drive and then copy all these files back onto his new build but that's fine we can leave that alone I can delete that actually I shouldn't need it anymore but I want to give Dave a few more days just in case something's missing let's just go ahead and run let's run crystal to smart first on this one just for a basis for comparison okay so this is also a 256 gig flash drive there I am and let's hit the all button oh wait wait wait we got to select the right driver on the C Drive which we don't want to be on that's the a data nvme drive and that number would not be accurate it's yeah you got to make sure you use you select the right drive up here so let's go where is it that should be us right there and now I'll hit all and let's see what it does and in the meantime I can minimize that and I can look back at the chat and see what I've missed here not everything made in China is junk all the Apple products are made in China and obviously they're not junk the problem with China is that they have manufacturing of real devices that are being supervised and quality control to American standards and then they have their knock-offs so if you're buying the knockoff but they're playing fast and loose with all the rules that's just very common in China even when it comes to food they're fast and loose with mercury levels and fish fast and loose with lead-based paints with children's toys that doesn't mean everything coming out of China is bad what it does mean though is everything bad made in China or rather all these consumer products that are bad are primarily sourced from China so you have to do your own research as a consumer to either buy name brands that have support and american-based responsibilities and have to abide by American law versus buying some no-name brand product off Amazon or other website or Ebay or Alibaba or any of these other sites where you are going to probably end up getting ripped off with no recourse whatsoever and that's why I'm making these videos is to make you aware and to set your expectations accordingly say says sometimes brandy drives are also faked well that's where you've got to consider your source so if you're buying from Amazon or Newegg look at who the seller is you you really want the seller to be affiliated with Amazon Prime at new way you can specify don't don't show me any third party marketplace sellers just whatever new a excels but sometimes even then you can get a bad product that's why it's important you watch who the seller is because as long as the seller is a reputable seller then returning the item for a full refund because it was fake it's not a problem and ideally when you tell them they will remove the product from their marketplace why Amazon has continued to allow this product for sale despite the negative reviews and alerts that the product is faking and giving people refunds without any problem it's still available for sale it's very strange and that's why I wanted to make the video it's very very odd that a company can continue to do business on Amazon when it makes Amazon look bad I think that people in charge of that department are not alerting their superiors and that's why the product is still being offered because I have a little bit more pull not much just a little bit more than you do there's a chance Amazon may actually listen to me and have the product pulled but as soon as they pull it I'm sure another product will take its place but what will never take its place is your knowledge in your education and that's why I'm providing this information to you so you won't be a victim of this especially if there's no reviews on the product so you can you don't have any reviews to base whether or not what you're seeing is real I can tell you almost instantly from price alone there's no way a 256 gig drive is gonna cost under $50 no way not today maybe in a few years but not today those are all fake so if you're buying from eBay or you're buying from Craigslist or Facebook marketplace you're not gonna have any customer service if you get burned too bad you've learned your lesson and at least it only cost you 20 bucks but if you buy from a reputable reseller like Amazon and Newegg they will accept turns hassle-free it shouldn't even cost you anything to ship it back they should cover all those expenses and then if you want to continue to harass them for continuing to offer it for sale despite giving you a refund and despite all of the negative reviews all claiming the for fake product you can continue to harass customer support in Amazon because the squeaky wheel does get the grease enough enough of you complain they will it will eventually get into the attention of the person who can get it done a lot of times the people you speak to the customer service reps have no power or a control and are often not fully trained for situations like this and so a process the refund and then that's that to get them to remove the product requires a little bit more effort and that's a fault on Amazon it's in their policies they're going to have to adjust their policies but maybe if enough people complain about them and it happens often enough for enough products Amazon will realize how much money they're wasting in support and pull the product and start saving money it's in their best interest it's just a matter of when you've got so many thousands of products for sale how do you bring the attention of a specific product to the person who has the power to make that change because those people aren't answering phones and emails so you got to get to the right person in the meantime don't rely on them to protect you it's really up to you to make smart purchasing decisions now look at the vast number of differences here now the SanDisk drive cost 120 dollars versus the other drive that costs 15 dollars so it's 10 times more money and it's more than 10 times faster much more upwards of 30 to 40 times faster on the write speeds alone and it's it's usb3 so it's already gonna be faster you do get what you pay for in the industry this is probably one of the best and when I say best I mean one of the fastest high-capacity USB flash drives on the market right now so it's you're not gonna find the cheapest high-capacity flash drive and find the fastest high-capacity flash drive to be the same flash drive you understand you can have one or you can have the and if you're like me and time is money you want the fast one and the fast one is gonna set you back 120 bucks today let's close this and let's run the same benchmark the h2 test W I'm kind of curious how long it says it's gonna take for that to run I can't see my screen everything's really tiny which one is it is it this one no I'm just blindly cooking hood things is it this one if you saw what I say it's very very tiny it's click okay it's not gonna be able to write to the whole Drive because I've already got data there shoot I guess I'm gonna have to erase the drive after all aren't I that's okay I needed to do that anyway I don't need Dave stuff so let's do that real quick let's just erase this drive more quick format watch how much faster this happens and I want this an NTFS just for compatibility between OS look how much faster that formatted and now we're blank I'm gonna turn off indexing it's like I always did and go back to the testing software English select the target which is right here and then write and verify ooh oh this is kind of interesting not expecting that at all I have to make this screen bigger so I can read it attention testing only 244 megabytes of the total capacity therefore the test will probably not find all the errors that's not supposed to happen it's not supposed to happen okay so here's what I'm gonna do I'm gonna completely reset this flash drive I'm gonna board that and this is a tool you've got to be very careful with then I'm gonna come down here I'm gonna do this old-school type cmd' to get to the command prompt to right click and run it as administrator yes then I'm going to type in diskpart this is old school folks this is how we used to do things let's list the disk we're gonna select this one which is our flash drive and I'm going to type the word clean make sure you select the right disk when you do this or your wipe out your entire operating system okay so we've cleaned it now there's no partition nothing on this flash drive now let's go to the control panel and let's go to Administrative Tools oops Administrative Tools what am i doing and then go to computer management and disk management and we should see that flash drive in here there it is it's completely unallocated will create a new simple volume hit next it next it next we do a quick format I'm just gonna label it as 256 gigabyte hit next hit finish done okay and we'll format it for a quick format yes I guess it already formatted it anyway alright might have been redundant of me now let me go back and turn off indexing let's go back to the flash drive right click properties indexing turn it off okay good good back to the h2 test software put it back to English select the flash drive select the flash drive it's in there somewhere there it is and write it verify and we're still getting in that error that is usually the sign of a bad flash drive that means that some of the space that's supposed to be available is not available not good it's a minimum amount of space and like I said before some flash drives are just fine you just can't write to that last bit or maybe it's a fake flash drive let's click OK on that and let's just let it run let's see how long it's gonna take if it's just the tail end of it I'm not worried about a couple of megabytes I'm not quite sure why that happens I could contacts and disk support and ask them perhaps they have an explanation for that and let's let this do its thing and well it's running I can come back and you and I can talk somewhere about that let me go back to the main camera and we're back over to the chat oh I can get the dis management from right-clicking on the windows logo yeah I got to get to these windows 10 shortcuts a little more I don't use Windows 10 often enough at this level most of my customers in office environments are still using Windows 7 but anyway says it's normal with NTFS thanks so much for doing what you do Carrie I built a desktop five years ago after watching your build videos awesome well thank you the box said it's normal with NTFS if you would have read the next line oh yeah you're right I didn't read it I'm skipped right through it well maybe I should go back and format it next fad and see if that's true that's news to me but I've always avoided expat for interoperability compatibility between say Mac and Linux even though I don't really use Mac or Linux I always like to be prepared but you know what there's nothing on there that we would use anyway for macro Linux oh well let me do this again let's go back to the close up of the desktop I call it a close up it's the video capture and let's abort this test let's close this out close this out and we'll go back to I gotta make this big screen again go fullscreen on my side so I can see what you are seeing okay let's right-click properties format let's just do this way cancel right-click format the default is probably gonna be x-men autism alright so exFAT quick format yes format complete good now does that change the crystal disk mark report that's what I'm curious about doesn't impact the read and write speeds by changing from NTFS to exFAT let's find out so let's let that run first and then I'll run the other benchmark after this well then a right oh I didn't select that's that's the envy me drive I always forget I have to go over here so I've clicked on stop but you have to wait for a crystal disk mark that to finish what it's doing so this look there see now it's finished cuz the stop went away now let's go up here and change psych boy but you thought that was impressive huh I'm changing everything to exFAT alright let's let that run jay-j wolf says great cable management and a pc well you can always tell who's paying attention we've already talked about this but you're trying to seem clever just makes you seem like you're just not paying attention which is the opposite of clever so yeah just keep making clever comments that let everybody know you're not paying attention or you've just joined what else we got numbers look pretty similar so far one of the reasons I use the diskpart tool is if you have a drive that was in a raid array and you format that drive every bio she put that drive in and we'll continue to see that drive as a raid array no matter if you delete the partition or not it's on the Oh what's it called on the hard drive it's on a different area of the platter that partitioning doesn't erase and formatting doesn't erase in order to erase it to take that drive out of raid mode you either need to stick it back in the RAID controller that it was in and remove the rate that way or you can run the disk part command as you saw me do and clean the drive and that puts it back to the way manufacturers ship the drives with no information on the drive whatsoever no partition no format no raid configuration information then when you plug it back in then it sees a regular hard drive then you can partition and format it or let windows do that for you in the case of an OS drive you just clean the drive and then you can install Windows to it as if that drive was brand new out of a package a lot of people are not aware of this it's been around for a very long time it's just an old-school way of doing things and I'm very fast at it so there might be other ways to accomplish that but that's how I learned it and it works well for me the Master Boot Record is that what it is Patrick Rousseau saying the Master Boot Record law and Willis says the Master Boot Record the boot block yeah whatever it's just one way of clearing out that rate information and putting the drive right back to the way I was brand new in the box was zero information on the drive across the platters and I think that's valuable information to know it gives you more control over your computer to have this kind of information now just look back up through the chat for any comments I've missed if I'm going upgrade my solid-state drive to an nvme drive do I need to do or Windows reinstall if you clone it with the Cronus you shouldn't need to but if it doesn't work for any reason you know you can always do a reinstall I personally think a fresh installs the best way to go if you want the best performance if that's why you bought an nvme drive is for performance then copying over an old operating system which may not be probably isn't optimized because of software you've added and removed over time and temp file buildup and cookies and everything else that builds up you're just copying all that over on a clone and it'll be faster but it won't be as fast as it could be with a clean install but yeah you can clone it with a Cronus or Mac reom reflect or Clonezilla or any of the other options out there and there's enough videos on YouTube including my own I've got at least six videos showing how to do it it's up to you what's a good way to do a factory reset on Windows 10 go to google and type in factory reset on Windows 10 and they'll step you through that that's not meant as a sarcastic comment it's meant as a real comment go to google and type that and you will have your answer nvram will not clone nvram clones just fine but don't let that stop you from making false statements on the Internet there's a big difference between I don't know how to do it and it can't be done I would very much love to see a change in the culture where people are either asking questions like I've never been able to do it but I don't know if it can be done that would be more appropriate and more accurate than making a bold statement that is absolutely false because you simply aren't educated properly that's frustrating for me when people make these kind of statements because they take their experience which failed and then can falsely conclude it can't be done no it can be done you just weren't educated properly and you don't know how to do it so rather than poison the well and tell everybody it can't be done because you don't know how tell people I don't know how to do it or if it can be done that would be an accurate statement am I going to celebrate when you reach 200,000 subs sure why not no I've been waiting a long time for two hundred thousand subs it should have happened six months ago so it's like finally right I think right now I'm pretty close Amit what am I at now let's go to about Carrie holzman 199 thousand subscribers what's the number though what's the exact number 199 180 okay so another 800 subscribers another 820 subscribers and obeah 200,000 I'll be happy when I met a million though so until that day comes it's not enough but I'll take what I can get and be grateful for it nonetheless but I'm not resting on my laurels I know that there should be more than that it's just a matter of getting the word out so there's our final numbers basically the same with exFAT really no difference there so I suspected it wasn't gonna be now let's try the h2 test software once again English select the target drive to be that Drive right there right and verify no same error same thing even in exFAT we get the same message so the information in the chat was inaccurate just like most of the information on the Internet it just appears to be one megabyte off you know what if it's just one megabyte I can handle one megabyte oops I stopped it again keep using the wrong keyboard in the wrong Mouse let's go back to do this and this no it's not I'm gonna let me select it now great Wow it already wrote though many files that quick that's a good sign alright let's do it again back to the software English select F okay write it verify okay let it run let me move this keyboard out of my way so I don't do that again let me keep talking like I'm singing and let's go back to the main camera again we'll let that do its thing all right okay and if you have any questions this is a good time to ask what we're waiting for that test to finish in fact I would say don't we start prepping the next one let's do this one next this drive is half the price now it half the price it's also about twice the size physically it's a very wide flash drive which may cause problems for some people to get it to fit into the back of their computer depending on how much stuff you've got back there so just take this out through it's heavy too I mean comparatively speaking it's much heavier it's much wider and it's got a cap that can fall off and get lost and no lanyard or anything that to me it's not a very well thought-out design having the sand the SanDisk flash drive with a little clicker that moves up and down it's just less problems right now some people if you keep that in your pocket you get lint and stuff in there obviously you're not gonna have that problem with this Patriot 256 gig drive this is half the price same capacity it's also USB 3 though I suspect it won't be anywhere near as fast but we're gonna find out here have I ever cloned an SSD to an nvme Drive I think I have I think I have honestly I can't remember I've there's no cloning situation I can't think that I've done but most envied me drives are put into new systems I very rarely have ever upgraded somebody to an nvme so it's possible I haven't I have may not have tried that yet but I can't imagine why it would be a problem is there a fan in the flow yeah it's big enough to have a fan right yeah and I was just it's big look at that thing I mean that's that's two fingers wide practically it didn't look that way in the package and the photo on the website there was no indication of reference that that was that wide it looked to me based on the picture that it was just the ordinary width of a flash drive and it's it's wider than that will you be reinstalling Windows 10 on this office PC before handing this back to the customer no I'm gonna just put malwarebytes on there and we're gonna scan it for viruses and make sure it's clean you know we'll check it for rootkits just because of that flash drive if it finds anything then I'll go ahead and wipe it clean but if it doesn't find anything it's fine it would be overkill in paranoia to wipe it out you know knowledge is a very powerful thing it's much more powerful than imagination I mean imagination is great don't get me wrong imagination is very important to have but not to a point where it it causes you to have to work harder and stress out and anxiety over nothing that's where your imagination gets you in trouble so by using the right tools and by educating yourself it be very clear to know if there's any infection on the computer and I'm responsible for it either way so if I'm wrong the only person it's really going to impact as me but that's the process just of just being honest with you I wouldn't viruses are just pieces of software and that's all it is you just take the software off I don't think the virus ever activated to be honest I think that the Windows security caught it but I could be wrong I think you might need a USB extension cable on that flash drive yeah you might be right but I mean it'll fit fine on the back of this computer there's plenty of room but if this computer was installed and there was a lot of things plugged into it it's possible that the flash drive would be too wide and wouldn't be able to reach the USB port what is a rootkit go to google and type in what is a rootkit I'm gonna teach you people how to be self-reliant and stop asking strangers on the internet although when you type in Google you know some of the information does come from strangers on the internet but you will overwhelmingly see the same answer over and over and over and over and over again especially if it's a wiki article or something like that they're generally accurate so just type in what is a rootkit in Google and knock yourself out on the education you can also type in what is a rootkit here in the youtube search and watch videos about that all day long and then you can join the rest of us come back here we'll still be here and Douglas has already provided the link I would have provided myself so right there is there what an o2 rootkit is click the link provided by Douglas Biggers his name is in blue and let's all be self-reliant please don't ask me to spoon-feed you I know you can grab the spoon and you can feed yourself but if you have technical questions I'm happy to answer technical questions basic tutoring you can get on Google and Sharon Idol has also provided a Wikipedia on that as well very easy to do very very easy Carrie have you ever had a virus you could not remove no there's no such thing as a virus that can't be removed it's not possible to make a virus that can't be removed that's like saying it has ever been a lock that couldn't be unlocked every lock can be unlocked it just takes education okay let's see how this thing is doing we're still going but you know the progress on this is a hobby sleep much faster much more expedient than the other flash drive but it's still a lot of data to write so it's still gonna be a few minutes Ramses contributed $2 a Thank You Ramsey says he's been lurking since 2010 well finally you've spoken up it's good to hear from you finally I'm glad you came out of your shell and thank you for the contribution how much time does a say is remaining only ten minutes left so I can write 256 gigs of data on this flash drive in less time that it took me to write 17 gigs on the other one think about that that's all about the money and there was no virus on this flash drive and this flash drive is faster and it looks better it's better built so yeah you get what you pay for even a virus five dollars has come up from law and Willis he says i7 8086 or i7 8700 what do you prefer I prefer the 8086 because it's faster does upgrading from windows 7 to Windows 10 partition the drive a recovery partition on a store-bought computer I have no idea I don't really care because whenever you do an upgrade you're never going to have as clean of an install as you will with a clean install so right there is is a reason not to do it if you want the most performance and reliability you will do a clean install by formatting every removing every partition off that hard drive and of course always having a data backup because you never know why you're gonna need it do a clean install of Windows 10 it will create recovery partitions on its own and then let it install install your drivers put your software back on copy your data back from your backup and you're back in business it's a bit of work but it's totally worth it totally worth it I've never had anybody say I wish I didn't reformat and reinstall everything they'll say I don't want to do it they'll say I'm not looking forward to it and it's gonna be a pain in the butt and the amount of time it takes them to say it if they would be doing it instead of complaining about it they'd already be halfway done but then after about 2 weeks time and you follow up and say how's the now that you've partitioned and formatted and reinstalled and what do you think oh it's the best thing I ever did so I guess it's like exercise or eating right looks like build other than just shaking of a bill thanks for joining us not quite halfway there there's your opinion on Intel GPUs I'll let you know when I have one for testing it's hard to have an opinion on something that doesn't exist yet same with people asking me about r-tx cards from Nvidia how can anybody have an it you'd have to be a certain kind of arrogant to make a video about a product that you haven't actually had in your hands and tested if you're gonna base an opinion based on what you read online then I feel sorry for you because you're assuming what you're reading is accurate most of what you're reading is all marketing hype and this happens in the industry constantly you know Intel op teen was supposed to be a thousand times faster some ridiculous number than SSD and then after we got the product and we tested it it was like nowhere near not even close and then the marketing backtracked and said well we didn't mean it like that okay whatever so I'm very skeptical when it comes to all of these announcements that are being made about vaporware products that just don't exist and well somebody may have one somewhere until it gets into the hands of ordinary everyday people and we can actually test it numerous types of configurations only then can we determine whether or not the product is worth the money or you know what the inner secret sees of the product are very rarely will it match the marketing hype so until I actually have one in contestant or until there's enough Reb web reviews from numerous locations that all agree on certain things then the opinion is made for you isn't it and remember there are folks there are lots of intelligent folks in the chatroom that can answer your questions so even if you don't get an answer directly for me on your question other people in the chat may answer you so be sure and read the chat back to anything that you're writing for comments from the chat room Kari are you gonna try an EVGA all-in-one cooler no I mean there's no plans for it but if somebody wants to order one I'll be happy to install it Tom says I like the USB drives that have the little write-protect switch on them I've had four customers in my career come up to me with a USB flash drive with those little switches and say how do I fix my USB flash drive and then I show them the little switch and they go wow I feel really stupid and then they say thank you I can use my flash drive again most of the people that have the flash drives with the little switches are unaware the switches are there and that's why manufacturers don't make them very much and ends up creating a lot of technical support calls which cost the company a lot of money and so they simply don't offer them you have to make things almost like you're making it for a two-year-old when you make things for the general public it has to be soft it can't cause any sharp cut certainly no sharp edges everything's got to be rounded everything's got to be baby proofed and then you can sell it to an adult in America you've got a baby proof it and that's the unfortunate situation most people don't take the time to really look at something they just if it's not obvious immediately to them they're dumbfounded then the minute you show somebody how to just stop slow down and take a look at it really look at it the answer becomes obvious but people in America are so busy if I can't immediately know from the instant from looking at it then I don't have time for this somebody else can deal with it it's a very common attitude it doesn't mean somebody's stupid it just means they're just too darn busy or their life is moving at such a fast pace that everything gets a cursory glance and that's it and if I didn't see it it's not there sort of is the conclusion it's a very common attitude here in the United States I would very much like to change that you're capable of learning anything and you're capable of doing anything but you're the one who has to put the effort in having somebody do it for you isn't benefiting you it's just enabling you to continue that behavior and you know being self-reliant is it's a very very much a source of pride and there's certainly no harm there's certainly no shame in asking for help but ideally you'll be watching and learning as they help you so you won't have to ask for the same help twice and remember the more you ask somebody to do something for you you're effectively asking somebody to work for you for free is that fair would you work for somebody for free so why would you ask others to do that for you it's very important to be self-reliant if you won't do it for yourself do it out of courtesy so that you're not put in a position where you can be ripped off by somebody overcharging you for something and you're not putting friends or family in uncomfortable positions where they feel like they can't say no to you for something that you should feel well be able to do yourself but you're either unwilling or you're unable and you know if you're unable that's a different story altogether but if you're unwilling there's no excuse and you know we're all capable and you know take those questions you have and start researching you can spend hours on the internet answering all your own questions and then experiment with the information you have because the information without experience is pretty well pointless so verify that you understand the information by testing it you know try something different follow the advice and then when you've got the experience you will then understand that subject matter thoroughly from experience but not from watching YouTube videos and reading wiki pages that's that's a good way to get you started but it doesn't complete the education until you've experienced it now I'm not suggesting that you have to go and buy one of these cheap flash drives to experience what I'm showing you I'm showing it to you so that you know what to expect if you were to go down this road and then if you choose to have that experience I encourage it absolutely or almost about 50% done here and copyright said I've worked almost my entire life for free from my family and my friends as their tech guy just because I wanted to be the nice guy and I just realized I was the idiot yeah yep the date on the computer is wrong is it I haven't even paid attention to that hmm what is today today is the 27th of August 2018 what does the computer say it is I can't see it I gotta make the screen bigger again screen oh the time is off I see well the dates off too isn't it it's not Tuesday it's Monday let's see just a date and time I'm not hooked up to the Internet on this so that's why it's not syncing the time but we can put this in Arizona no I don't want that why didn't you change it they don't even change the format don't need to change a region they don't need to change the timezone time and language date and time hmm I'm not gonna let me do it and just sometimes zone automatically is off now I can change it go to 20s August 27th and the time is 333 p.m. that's easy 333 I was off by 12 hours change now we could set time zone back to automatic I'll close that and now that should be accurate for those of you what the OCD that should make you happy t-time says your tips just saved my PC today thanks for that you're you're welcome to you I'm glad that helped okay well I'm hoping this was gonna wrap up here pretty soon this is not exactly the most riveting video I've ever made it's getting there that's the problem you know when you buy a large capacity flash drive and you want to test it find something else to do go out and have lunch or something there set it and go to bed and wake up in the morning and it'll be done that's a lot of data be pushing through the USB 3 port and then it's gonna have to read it back but it should read it back relatively quickly again I'm gonna take a short break here and I will be back so we're just gonna go ahead and leave up the main screen so you guys can continue to watch that progress and I'll be back you okay thank goodness this is almost done see how we've got going on here let's take a look says it's got about two and a half minutes left to go good so about 20 minutes in total to copy 256 gigs through USBs really not bad at all really not bad then the grand scheme of things that's a lot of data to be pushing through I'm agreeing here with Stephen in the chat room about windows requiring a minimum of 8 gigabytes of RAM yeah anything less than 8 gigs and windows it's gonna swap the RAM out to your hard drive it's just gonna bring your whole system to perform it's right down the toilet so if you want to use a computer for old programs and old software and you know an old computer is fine for that you can use less RAM but if you want to use a modern computer with modern protections and use everything available on the Internet you need a computer designed for that trying to take a computer that wasn't designed for it and making it do it it's possible but it won't do it well all right we are almost done here it's getting exciting let's see what's gonna happen let's take a look we are almost done a few seconds left and then it'll start reading everything back okay let's see what happens test finished without errors oh it already wrote it and it already verified it my bad I wasn't paying close enough attention 226 megabytes per second on the writing and 200 and is that 90 megabytes per second on the reads it's too small for me to see it it looks like 290 to me gotta go fullscreen on this again fullscreen yep 290 megabytes on the reeds that's really good 290 megabyte per second you guys probably have a hard disk drive some of you watching this video have hard disk drives that read at one third of that speed especially if you have a laptop with a mechanical drive you're probably seeing speeds of about 80 so that'll give you some perspective as to how fast that flash drive is so now let me go back in here and let's close this and close this and let's open the Windows Explorer let's delete all the files it copied oh you know what it'd just be faster for me to just format the darn thing let's format let's format an NTFS start yes done see how fast that is once you remember that because when we do the next one you'll see how much slower it is and then I just want to right-click on that and go to properties and turn off that drive indexing thank you and then and then we can disconnect the flash drive right here eject and now it's safe to remove we're good that's good what about this Patriot flash drive how's this gonna work let me plug this in was there any LED on there I don't even see a light 60 bucks and no light really I like my lights man like I'll tell you it opens up to nothing which is good oops I gotta grab the right mouse for this how has this been formatted is this exFAT or NTFS fat32 seriously let's run the performance test on this and see what it does I'm sorry I don't want to run that I want to run crystal dis Marc first so this flash drive is 256 gigs it costs $60 instead of 120 dollars like the one we just did and let's see how it compares in performance and I did it again I I am still I just keep choosing that default value of going to the C Drive instead of choosing the flash drive if I do this enough time so it will finally drill into my head so just give it a second here will stop Steve these are the numbers you can expect off an a data nvme drive which is what we've got in there this thing would stop anytime now stop stop what's happening is I'm grabbing the other mouse I got two keyboards and two mice and things get a little confusing so I was clicking stop with the other mouse didn't do anything what a shock all right let's go back there's the one I want and let's do this again the right way and let's see what kind of numbers we get now I can use my other mouse there we go Brian says hello from Lake Havasu hey Brian welcome hmm marmots is almost identical so far I sure wish this thing had a light on it though I don't see any light I can't tell if it's doing anything I hate to unplug a flash drive when I don't know if it's doing anything that's the quickest way that kill a flash drive you just got to be careful Chunk wait for it says hello from Norway big kitty says hello JB is talking about something being forced on you nothing is ever forced on you you choose to use it and choose not to use it if you don't like it find an alternative if it matters that much to you denistoun hope says the queue 6,600 was a great cpu for the time but terrible nowadays I agree we just replaced the queue 6600 I think that was Dave's old computer wasn't it very slow why is it still offered in Windows 10 to compress drive space I don't know I didn't design Windows 10 and I didn't have any say in it probably want to ask one of those people Callard and Bowser says hello from Kalamazoo Michigan I want to put in a good word for the 82 s102 Pro USB stick I think I have a couple of those I haven't had any issues with any of the a data flash drives at all Anthony says hello from England but I'm off to bed it's almost midnight all right well good night Anthony Matthieu Laird says hello John Gallo says hello yes absolutely if being on the internet if you're a privacy person you know somebody that really matters about privacy you gotta get off the grid get off the grid if it matters to you that much you're not gonna change society but you can go live in the woods and a cabin and write your manifesto it's fine there's a lot of people believe it or not there are a lot of people on this planet that do not have internet access in fact half of the population of Earth has no internet access right now as we speak and there are plenty of people especially of the older generation that never had it and they don't miss it there they don't feel their lives are not complete they don't feel their lives are not enriched because they don't have internet they don't have it they don't want it they have no interest in it and their life is just fine in some ways they may be happier than you they don't worry about scams and they don't worry about spam and they don't have to worry about fake news for the most part they're oblivious to all that because they don't energy interact with it so they don't have to know so when you think about oh I couldn't have a life without internet there's plenty of people who do and they might have a better quality of life than you do so it's a very self-serving thing to pat yourself on the back about wow I'm so glad I live in this day and age of information I can tell you there's plenty of people that are so glad that their life is nearing an end they're older people that the world has changed in a way that they consider to be much worse much more complex much more dangerous and when they lived in what we call simpler times life was more honest in life was I mean there's always been scam artists but the complexity of it isn't the way it is today and many of those people that are that age we can say no better so don't feel bad for them and likewise you can adopt that philosophy you don't have to be a certain age to adopt it they were just brought up differently and have a different set of values that's all so if you don't like the privacy concerns you can get yourself off the grid don't use credit cards don't use loyalty cards don't have a cell phone don't be on the internet and you know try and go with solar power and have a well that you can draw from a septic system get yourself completely self-sustaining and self-reliant I've got no problem with that at all but don't expect the world to change to accommodate for you to have all the conveniences of modern society without any of the negatives of modern society the world doesn't go around that way and you're just gonna have a lifetime of disappointment I Got News for you yeah the read and write speeds on this are very respectable very respectable Carrie when do you think you could do an outside video like a build I've already done many of those just go look in my video library you'll see plenty that I've done outside it's August in Phoenix you do not want to be in Phoenix let alone outside in August it is hot in humid and miserable but I like to build computers outdoors I prefer it good lighting especially there's a nice breeze out there I've done several videos like that and when the when the weather is accommodating usually around November December January February the winter months are very comfortable here in Phoenix so there's our final numbers 329 and 289 now what what I can do here I don't you don't see me do this but many of you may not be aware of this I'm going to show you here on the results page of Crystal dis mark I can go down here in this empty window and I can type in here I can say Patriots 256 gigabyte flash drive yeah and that way when I do my screenshot I just do it by filename so I don't have to do this but just so you guys know that's what that's for you can make your notes in there alright and then let's go over here and no type snip new well so what happens if I see I just kind of screwed up I went too high on that I still have to crop it anyway and I didn't even do it Lowen opposite close it save it no I won't do it again did it again it's going to hi and it's not grabbing the bottom so you know what I don't like the snip tool it's it's there's no way to verify what I want so I'm just gonna go the dual fashioned way cuz it worked really well for me which is alts print stream which you'll give me that image of that window type in paint and then paste it in there except I can't see with my window in the upper corner so let's get rid of that real quick now I can just paste that file save as JPEG image and this will be patriot 256 gigabyte flash drive save close that close that I really need to work on this full screen I you guys have no idea how small the window is I'm working on here I'm not reading a lot because it's just too small of a screen let me go back to my pictures directory let's open that up let's crop it at least I can adjust this crop so you know if I were to go too far up and go hoops I can just drag it right back to where I want it I wish this snippet tool allowed me something like that instead of this one you got one shot to get it right I don't like that at all all right that's better let's save that I'm not gonna test this Patriot flash drive with the right because you know how long that takes and we know it's gonna work we know for a fact that that's gonna be just fine so I've gone ahead and ejected it so let's go ahead and get this pulled out of here now it's just chunky you know that's what I would describe they should call this the chunky drive just to give you an idea they're both the same capacity both about the same performance look at the size difference between them maybe it'd be better if I just put this over here and like this about exactly the same length but this was an extra at least it's at least a quarter of an inch wider you're probably a little bit more than that I'd have to get a micrometer out but yeah it's uh just a little too wide for my liking but it's half the price you can buy two of these for the cost of this just like life take your pick which thing you want and which thing you're willing to live with on the negative side so here's another brand-new 256 gig twelve dollar flash drive USB 2.0 from Amazon here's what it says on the back if we can get this to focus okay that's what it looks like see me ripping it open for the very first time no camera trickery here no CGI we don't have a budget for CGI looks like a whistle I'm not putting in my mouth came from China yeah you can quote me on that all right let's plug this in and let's see what happens with this one well there's no virus on it that's a good sign let's run the crystal disk mark test on it first just to see what kind of performance I believe it's USB - let's see what it does there's a 512 gig Patriot USB flash drive for 500 Oh 150 for ninety one hundred fifty five bucks for a 512 gig Patriot flash drive it's a bit pricey you can get a 500 gig SSD for under $100 and put that into the silverstone m22 USB adapter and you can get 500 gigs for 130 dollars that would probably read and write a lot faster and you can replace it and upgrade it later or if it fails you can replace it all together with another m2 SATA Drive think about that it's a bit larger though although I wonder if the Patriot flash drive is the same footprint as this one if the 512 is the same footprint or if it's bigger than this because this is one of the biggest flash drives I've ever seen if there's any malware it might be hidden no I got view hidden files enabled so there was anything on there we just seen it and if it's on a Boot Record we're not booting from it so either way it's not gonna hurt us oh god that's painful 19.53 megabytes a second wow that's slow well 256 gigs for 12 dollars you know what do you want you probably want 256 gigs and you're gonna be shocked probably when you find out that it's nowhere near that incapacity I can crop the image in Microsoft Paint by dragging the bottom right corner tell you what let me play with that while we're waiting let me just go back to Microsoft Paint and let's just paste the same image I had in there oh I gotta turn the blending mode off hold on alright and then I got to go fullscreen again so I can see excuse me alright let's just paste that same image I got to use the correct Mouse drag the bottom right corner there's nothing to drink home I guess that saves a step that's better I'm so fast at what I do I really don't look for these shortcuts these are good shortcuts to know and then when I say but I don't have to crop it thank you for the tip I appreciate that I don't really do it that often but certainly when I'm live anything that can expedite the live broadcast I'm all for so thank you for the information and if you have other tips please let me know I just wish paint would automatically make the image size fit the image I'm pasting but it's a basic photo software or editing software so it's like anything else Microsoft gives you for free it just kind of does the basics do you charge customers for parts I don't sell parts I do not let me be really clear on this I do not sell parts customers only pay me to fix repair and build computers they don't pay me for parts and I don't sell parts Tenace says it can paint can crop just make sure the crop size is smaller and then the image will fit to it'll automatically fit to the image well shouldn't be doing that by default is all I'm saying I shouldn't have to do this extra step man why don't you pin paint to your taskbar primarily because this is going to a customer and anything I do to it I have to undo later it's easy to forget when you when you're doing a thousand little or dozens of little configuration changes it can be very difficult to remember to undo those changes if they're not intended to be delivered to the customer that way if it was my own machine that and I was planning on using it for testing in the future then I would do that and I realize it's not a big deal to pin and unpin things from the Start menu but it's also no big deal for me to type the word paint I'm pretty fast typer and often you just have to hit the letter P the option comes up P and then enter which can be just as fast as moving the mouse to the icon and clicking the good news is you guys can perform all these tests yourself that you see me do all the software I'm using here is open-source freeware so crystal disk marks available for download as well as the h2 test W system for testing flash memory whether it's a memory card or flash drive especially if you're getting it from a questionable source you definitely want to check it before you start relying on it with anything important I'm gonna just turn off my audio here for a second we're gonna wait for this to continue to where wait for this test to complete and I'll come back you okay just about done with this numbers are perhaps it was a pathetic so stay away from the cheap stuff folks you don't have to buy the most expensive thing and if that's what you're getting from this then you're not paying attention as much as you may be thinking about all the negative side of paying the most amount of money for something you should equally be thinking about paying the least amount of money unless it's a name-brand product that perhaps is refurbished and that's why it's discounted or it was returned there's lots of reasons why things are discounted but rarely are they discounted to you know taking a product that's normally let's say sixty bucks for the patriot 256 gig flash drive which was the cheapest name-brand USB 3 flash drive i could find at 256 gigs anything under that price is probably going to be counterfeit in the the cheaper it is the more counterfeit it is the more likely it's going to be counterfeit that guess is what i mean to say if you guys know of a USB 3.0 flash drive of 256 gigs or larger for less than $60 let me know let me know if it comes from a name-brand reputable manufacturer like i said you can find them all day long from some names that you've never heard of before that's because they don't really exist the hacker the thief the criminal has made up a name it's not trademarked it's not copyrighted it's just a made-up name to instill confidence that you're buying something other than what it really is Dave says open paint resized the little white window to a small box of a few pixels and then close paint then when you reopen it later when you paste an image it will always be larger oh very good I will have to try that Wow this flash drive is taking forever to complete this test Patrick's saying goodnight good night Patrick thanks for joining us colin Hilton says it's a quarter past midnight here time to leave you friends enjoy the rest of the stream thanks for giving up your time Kerry hey Colin one other tip for you before you go when I contacted Silverstone about this situation with the m2 drives their first tip to me was to take a file and file down the sides of the m2 Drive to which I said are you crazy the m2 Drive is worth a lot more money than this I don't want to take a file to it and they said usually in manufacturing there's some discrepancy as to how they're smoothing out the edges during the manufacturing and that's why it's not that they made a mistake in the 22 millimeter size it's that it's the little refinements after manufacturing some of the manufacturers are not doing those and that's why the drive isn't fitting in there correctly or why your switch isn't moving so if you have a file it is safe to do that but if you take file it down too far you're out of warranty you know the manufacturer of the m2 Drive is gonna say we never said it was ok to file it so I told Silverstone that's not an acceptable answer and they said we're gonna send you you know we are addressing it we're gonna send you another one they just said if you wanted to make it fit you could lightly file the edges of your m2 on the sides and that's why it's not fitting correctly so if you're up for that callin you can certainly do that yourself I I just have a rule I'm not taking a file to a circuit board it's just the way I am pretty good pretty sure you're not supposed to be breathing that stuff in either but anyway good luck with that let me know that works out for you and thanks again for everything Colin I just found a USB 3.1 256 gig flash drive for $57.99 on Amazon Prime that's a good deal we're still on that $60 range though I mean you're not gonna find one well let's see if anybody can find one cheaper than that so $57.99 is our new benchmark I'm sure that's not the SanDisk extreme which is the fast drive it's twice as much money because it reads and writes at SSD speeds and I'm sure that one reads and writes at normal flash drive speeds which is probably half of what this one reads and writes at so you're still getting what you pay for we're still in the $60 range though for 256 gigs so I would like to see any other flash drives for 256 gigs under 50 $7.99 at any speed that isn't fake SanDisk Ultra Fit not extreme yeah yeah Kingston flash tribes are always expensive now so the problem with Kingston Kingston makes some really good flash drives and they make some real crap flash drives and it's almost impossible for the average consumer to know which is which other than based on price a cheap Kingston flash drive is as bad as any flash drive you could ever buy and inexpensive Kingston flash drive is as good as some of these you know Patriot and Santa's flash drives on testing today I wish Kingston had a different naming convention so they would list their crap under a different name instead of soiling and diluting the value of the Kingston brand by offering cheap slow alternative flash drives to consumers and mixing it in with a high-end very reliable and fast flash drives under the same Kingston name I think it's a huge marketing error because if you buy a cheap kingston flash drive and you're disappointed with its performance you may decide that you will never buy anything from kingston ever again failing to realize that they have another line of flash drives that are very fast and very well made but it's hard as heck for an average consumer to tell them apart and that's why manufacturers do different brands toyota has the the infinity line right Honda has the gosh I'm losing it Ford has Lincoln on the high end side Honda has Acura Nissan has Infiniti Toyota has Lexus so that way you know as a consumer if you want to buy a cheaper car you buy the toyota if you want the more expensive car you buy the Lexus right if you like the Honda quality but you want a high-end Honda you buy Acura and so in the same way Kingston should have done that the Kingston should have said this is the name-brand for our cheap stuff and this is the name-brand for our good stuff and antek does that Antec makes really simple computer cases that are embarrassing they're so poorly made it completely dilutes the value of the brand and if you have one experience with an Tek and it's with this budget brand site of an Tek you will think all of an Tek is budget brand so an Tek has made that exact same marketing error in the world today doing that is a quick way to find yourself into bankruptcy and I expect an Tek in Kingston we'll be heading that direction if they soon don't change their marketing tactics by separating out their budget line from their main line by separating out brand name because brand awareness works both ways and in the world today people are simple and if you don't differentiate that people are going to conclude very quickly that they're gonna base your whole company's quality on the cheapest products you make so don't use your company's name on those products come up with a different company name for those cheap products I don't think I've ever seen crystal dis marked with the reading that low I didn't even know it was possible it's a kid point zero 1 it says if crystal disk info was like I don't know how to get a number of this low well does around it to the nearest number apart from physical size would you get better performance by putting an SSD in USB 3 yes the Sande silverstone so we're gonna test this one next this is the silverstone m2 SATA to USB 3 1 adaptor it's got a little switch on and you slide the switch up and there's your USB you take the four screws out you insert your m2 SATA drive in there of any capacity and this will read and write faster than anything we've tested here and it costs less than everything we've tested here week so it doesn't cost less than the fake drives and it doesn't cost less than the Patriot Drive so that's a false statement that I just said it costs less for price and performance and capacity period end of sentence ok this is where you say 20 years on the business I never seen one of these before I'm going on 30 years in the business here we're getting real close what if you used a regular two and a half inch solid-state drive with a USB SATA adapter yeah that would perform very well sure absolutely just not as convenient to shove that in your pocket and haul it around you know having this Silverstone Drive is you slide it in a pocket easy so it's much much better portable wise there's no cable to fall off and lose but yeah you'd get the same performance sure Carrie can you recommend a third-party Wi-Fi card it actually releases up-to-date drivers tp-link it doesn't do this you don't need drivers for tp-link you just plug it in and Windows 10 loads the driver that's all you need to do I don't know why that's any big deal Nathan says you got me into building desktop PCs things so you're welcome Nathan glad you're doing it point zero zero one point zero zero one zero point zero zero two but at least it finished at least it finished so let's go back up to we're gonna go fullscreen here again and I can name this fake 256 gig flash drive and then let's open paint I gotta get a screenshot first so I'll do oh wait no I'm gonna go to paint first let's bring up paint let's try this thing out and see how this works oh my god for me to see I have to get rid of myself let's minimize this let's bring this one back up keep clicking on the same thing Gary okay prtscn alt printscreen giving that window back to paint much better thank you for the tip save as let's call this fake we'll just call us number two no real way to differentiate them but we know it's all junk all right now for grins and giggles now now look I can run the right test on this I can tell you right now we're gonna get to about 16 gigs it's gonna fail it's gonna take forever take my word for it you don't want even if it worked it's just too darn slow here's the Silverstone MSO 9 m to 2 SS it's an m2 SSD 2 USB 3.1 adapter I've got an a data 240 gig SATA drive I did this many months ago and I'm just kind of forgotten about it and I feel like I need to draw a little more attention to this because it's a great alternative there's obviously I've been using it there's data on it let's run the benchmark on it same benchmark we just ran crystal disk smart portable mouse is not running very well suddenly I don't know what's happened come on ah I did it again stop I got a select the drive it's already on the right Drive let's see what kind of speeds we get out of this it's already faster than anything I've tested today I carry there's a Samsung 256 gig bar flash drive 480 $4.99 it's not too bad the the bar flash drive from Samsung is made of metal it's really well-constructed there's no LED on it but the price is a bit high I think the Patriot 1 is less than that but the Patriot 1 is also quite a bit larger much much larger the Samsung bar is a very small flash drive but it's a good flash drive and Joseph Henry is correct he says just a note on these Silverstone enclosures they use SATA MDOT 2 drives only not nvme I did make that disclaimer earlier and I think it needs to be said again for people just joining us basically putting anything nvme into a USB 3 port or 3.1 is wasting your money anyway you'd have to have thunderbolt or something to to achieve the kind of speeds that nvme can deliver just regular SATA based MDOT 2's are gonna max out the performance of your USB 3 well generally speaking certainly USB 3.1 so that putting an nvme Drive in there isn't gonna make it any faster all you're doing is wasting money if you want the compatibility between different platforms if you want to be able to take this to a customer's location put all your software utilities on there and your customer doesn't have thunderbolt on their system or they have a system that several years old your nvme Drive wouldn't work even if you could make it work on your own system so you'll spend less money get for it incredible performance better than any flash drive you can ever buy and have cross-platform compatibility among Linux Mac and even Windows operating systems by staying away from nvme drives for external use nvme drives should only currently be used internally otherwise you're wasting your money now I fully expect to be able to change that you know and say oh you can use nvme drives externally eventually in the future but as of August 27th 2018 we're nowhere near that future yet but I expect there'll be something much faster cheaper more capacious it's just the way the world goes around but for today and for the next few months and maybe the next year or two this is the best bang for the buck right here for fast external storage now if you want more capacity you don't care about the speed the best bang for the buck would be a tune half-inch of hard drive basically a Western Digital passport or a Seagate what a Seagate call theirs they have these little two and half inch flash come they're not flash drives they have these two nav inch hard drives up to I think four terabytes now they run off USB power just like a flash drive but they are mechanical drives and so you know it cannot sustain much abuse it will fail at least for the flash drive you know you drop it on the floor it's probably gonna be okay you drop the mechanical drive on the floor it's probably not gonna be okay but four terabytes versus 256 gigabytes there's quite a big difference in storage capacity so it just depends on what you need to get out of the flash drive you know what your purpose or needs are your expectations are and then of course buy accordingly look at those numbers for 26 on the reads and for 20 on the writes that's amazing that is very very fast consider a two and a half inch solid state drive that's SATA based they're all gonna be sat abased is going to achieve about 560 megabytes a second maximum they're really close to that and this is an inexpensive a data MDOT to drive it's not an expensive M to drive which may perform better like if I put a Samsung m2 SATA Drive in there I expect I'd get better performance but I'd spend more for it this ad a 256 gig flash drive I think they sell for around 50 or 60 bucks right now so like I said you can get the 500 gig you can get twice the capacity 500 gigs for under $100 buy this $35 USB m2 adapter and you'll have the fastest flash drive on the block and you can upgrade it show me another flash drive you can upgrade so there we have it there we have it that is the end results I'm gonna just go ahead and wrap this up because we've been going on three hours and 40 minutes so I'm gonna wrap up the broadcast because tomorrow I hope to run some tests here on this is the i7 8086 cane that I built on Friday that videos up if you guys want to watch me build this it's an older case the customer wants to keep the old case the case was about a hundred bucks it's all aluminum from a company called Lian Li the only disadvantage is they don't have any USB 3.0 up here it's all USB - but this is an office environment and when they copy things that USB it's just a document or two so the speed difference isn't anything they're gonna notice and many of the flash drives are using or USB - anyway so it was not important to them I've ran some I ran prime95 on here for like three hours and the hottest they got was 57 degrees Celsius so this hyper 212 cooler performs much much better than some people believe now somebody asked me to install the Intel tuning utility or something that I guess works it harder I will do that tomorrow time permitting and I have another one of these systems to build as well basically the exact same thing I've got to pull the parts out of the existing system and put the new parts in it'll be the exact same build in every way shape and form and I'll do it again live and that'll be the plan for tomorrow so I think that's gonna wrap it up if you have any last questions let me go ahead and take those right now otherwise I'm gonna be saying goodbye here so I know there's a delay between what I say and when you hear it so I'm just gonna go ahead and disconnect this flash drive here which by the way has a little light there's a little blue light that lets you know that it's running unlike the Patriot flash drive this Santa's flash drive also has a light and it's just behind the cover it's a small little tiny elevator I think it's really important to have those LEDs I'm very disappointed the trend of manufacturers not including them it's impossible to know when you are you're rejecting the flash drive if it's in the middle of a read or write cycle if you pull out a flash drive while it's writing you will probably permanently damage it and you'll have to replace it so that's so important that is and that's why it matters now let me go back to my desktop so I can properly disconnect this by going over here and choosing to eject safe to eject we're good to go on that and then I can hit this power button up here and that should shut this down and then we can go back to main camera here just a minute there we go is an nvme m2 much faster than a standard SSD the fastest m2 compared to the fastest standard SSD is about five four to five times faster considering that a regular SST is already four to five times well three to four times faster than a mechanical hard drive and then an nvme drive is then another three to four times no four to five times faster than an SSD I think that there's no debate about nvme drives but they're not all created the same there are cheap nvme drives whether or not they use TLC MLC SLC or a qlc memory as well as the motherboard that you're plugging it into that it supports the proper amount of lanes and traffic in a best-case scenario with the best available drives comparing the best of the best nvme is about four - yeah about four times I'm gonna just say four times faster than SSD and SSD is three or four times faster than mechanical hard drive so if it matters to you if that matters to you it's worth spending the money if it doesn't matter to you then then save your money because an nvme drive is twice the amount of money as a regular SSD drive unless it's qlc if it's qlc then it's the same price it can be the same crisis in m2 SATA for the m2 nvme but your performance will be far far less it'll be less than half of what a regular nvme with TLC will do but it'll still be more than what a SATA SSD can do by about half so if a regular SSD you'll do five hundred fifty megabytes a second QL cm2 nvme will do about eight hundred megabytes a second so you know an additional three hundred megabytes or about sixty percent faster than a normal SSD for the same price if your system can support nvme so there you go I'll cover that more in detail in a future video I'll be comparing them to drives and show you a price for performance what you can expect so that you can make the decision right for you remember there's no such thing as what's the best there's no such thing is what item on the menu tastes the best what you taste and what you like is unique to you and the same holds true for computer parts there's no such let me just make real clear in the computer world there is no such thing as best there's no such thing as the best video card there's no such thing as the best SSD there's no such thing as the best motherboard or a best case or best RGB lighting or a best keyboard or best mouse service it doesn't exist best is only something you decide nobody else decides it but you and what you think is the best someone like me probably thinks it's complete junk and we're not wrong neither one of us is wrong so stop asking what the best is if you have a budget and you want to know what the best is for that amount of money then you can get an answer all right guys I got to take off I got to run thank you for joining me thanks for all the contributions thanks to everybody in the chat all the tips little helpful tips I appreciate that I am a little bit smarter if I can remember everything I learned tomorrow we'll see what happens I got to open an RMA for Amazon and post some reviews and get these crappy flash drives out of here they justthinking up my place it actually doesn't have any smell at all but I still smell it let's see you guys later until tomorrow bye for now you you
