Ok I might be wrong but here’s how I understand bsd: it IS unix. It was originally known as Berkeley unix as it was a fork from the popular AT&T unix. After a while, it was open sourced under the bsd license. So when they say bsd is unix I believe that is correct. It was unix that was open sourced.
