Here’s Why Toyota is Buying Out Subaru

rev up your engines all right today got a brand new 2024 Forester Wilderness Edition and we're going to go through it so you can decide is it's something you want something you don't want something that you'd think about now the only watches a lot of my videos his first choice is a r 4 but he's a big guy he didn't fit in the R4 there's a lot more room in this he fits in this fine considering that he got this thing for about 15 grand less than an equivalent Rav 4 would have been not too shabby of a move really look what's inside here now there's a lot of space but a fulls siiz spare with an alloy that matches the wheels on the car let's face the fact do you want to be stuck in a Wilderness with a flat tire and no spare no you don't plus the Wilderness comes with a better package for towing he's not going to tow really heavy things but he's got a motorcycle a little trailer and he wants to be able to move that around with him and he bought this Wilderness Edition also because his mother lives kind of out in the middle of nowhere she's getting older if something happens he's got to get there in the snow and the ice he said he'll bring a shovel and mats and he's going to take this thing and get there and odds are he would make it so let's take a look under the hood well first of all we got the stupid Beauty cover so we'll put that over there in the grass so we can see what we're actually working on here a four cylinder boxer engine it's been around for quite some time now it's a good size 4cylinder engine he got this because if you get a Turbocharger it's not going to last as long especially bocker engines you could turbocharge them not the greatest engine to turbocharge now it's hooked up to one of these crazy CVT transmissions that mimics heavy NP speeds it really doesn't this morning I rot tested a Honda Civic that had a CVT I absolutely hated it but it's 8 years older than this this is a brand new vehicle so we're going to compare when I drive at this against the Honda because from what I've seen the Subaru CVT transmissions the new ones are a vast improvement over the old ones we'll find out when we road test everything's easy to get to cuz it's four cylinders there's plenty of working room you can see it's a sharp looking vehicle they're a nice size SUV nice trunk you can hide your stuff in here or you can put the seats down and have a ton of room to haul stuff now the owner admits he does not like keyless ignition cuz he's old school and he also doesn't like these stupid electric e Braes because he grew up in Pennsylvania and he said he mastered the E bra with your hand for driving in the snow and the ice on frozen lakes and stuff and he doesn't like this I don't like it either but let's face it they're all going that way oh we'll stick the key here and start her up and it makes a pleasant sound here while we're waiting for it to go on there's a nice digital clock set up over there all the modern radio telephone it does have the X mode on it no dirt deep snow mud push normal it's got heated seats and if you want you can check the surroundings by pushing this button there you go now you can see all around it's got a giant sunroof I'm not a fan myself when it snows and gets dirty you can easily clean these things this is brand new brand new he's only got 589 miles on a thing so let's take it for a spin and see what the CVT fake n shift feels like going down the road and here we go put in reverse and you can see it's got a really nice backup camera great resolution so we don't hit the car that's the next door or hit the Lions over there and go sport mode guess what I'm going sport mode and there it is that's tell me it's in sport mode right there I notic it's smooth as can be four-cylinder boxer engine this baby smooth and for a SUV hey it's got pretty Nimble handling I got to say the handling is pretty Nimble you feel pretty secure in this vehicle it's also pretty quiet for an SUV the only thing I can hear is the tires cuz the tires they're sowhat aggressive so you're going to get a little bit of noise if you're not noise freak you don't want aggressive tires but if you want to take this thing seriously in mud and go through the snow and stuff you want off-road tires and of course the brakes are nice and firm we'll get down here to tobac of Road and we'll take it for a little spinning see how this transmission acts when it's under full load so we'll slow down we can see there's nobody behind us and let's see what this engine and transmission can do here we go not bad but you see under full load it showed it kind of fake shifting gears and it does feel like it's shifting gears but it doesn't have any gears in it that's all an illusion but I do have to say it's much more responsive than that Honda cvti tried out in a Civic the Civic had a decent 2 L engine too it's just that CVT didn't have enough balls to it as far as I'm concerned and as you see here we're going 40 we floor it it also accelerates a lot faster than the Civic did and you got to consider this Forester is a lot heavier than that Civic so I got to say for a CVT it's not horrible and I turned off that stupid Lane departure cuz it drives me nuts and we'll test it out in the twisties here it told me I was supposed to slow down to 20 but we're doing 50 I sped up and let's see handles it no problem at all it actually handles it better than the Honda Civic did which is kind of surprising that's the thing about all-wheel drive systems okay this is all-wheel drive the Civic wasn't you're going to get a lot better handling with an all-wheel drive system if it's set up correctly like the Subaru are Subaru is really the all-wheel drive can get caught in weird situations you can switch it to deep snow mud snow dirt or normal so cruising along hey the floor it kicks in and yeah it does accelerate a lot faster even though it's a fake gear ship as I said it's a CVT it has no gears inside oh the magic of modern technology where you can feel like your car has gears although it doesn't have any at all what will they think of next and I do have to say it works better than the older versions did know I do have to say I'm impressed by the smoothness of This SUV I drove Subaru back in a 70s when I was a mechanic working on a bunch of them hey those things Rod like buckets this thing has got a nice smooth ride it's not your grandpa Subaru I'm pleasantly surprised let me tell you a CVT trans that I don't hate it really felt like it was shifting gear Subaru Engineers I mean the Japanese that can be inscrutable they found out Americans hate cvts that just go like a motorboat engine they like shifting gears it feels better somehow they figured how to make it feel like it's shifting even though there's no gears inside and I got to say I was impressed by that I really don't have many complaints about it at all you got a real spare tire it's high enough up in the air you can go through all kinds of snow tires that it came from aren't too aggressive but they're certainly good for going through a lot of rough terrain and for a vehicle this size to get 30 something miles a gallon on the highway that's a feet in itself as much fun as it is to drive around maybe if you're kind of disgusted with the price of a brand new R 4 that's loaded like I say you're going to go 15 grand more even higher than this thing was or if you're as big as this guy you don't fit in the Rev for my advice is rad test one of these things and see what you think I got to say I'm pleasantly surprised I'm the biggest hater of cvts in the world and I don't hate this one so that'll tell you something and here's some bonus questions and answers well here's some post office knows you know they deliver your packages right well I guess in Houston people aren't getting their packages guess why because they had a system that was supposed to increase efficiency and it actually made it worse typical post office right after multiple residents voice concerns over mail package delivery delays in Missouri City in North Houston we're learning that a plan meant to enhance efficiency has led to the delays they a new machine that's supposed to be more efficient well they couldn't figure out how to use it didn't set them up right and now the people haven't gotten their mail for quite some time this is just the USPS for you anything that has to do with government entities right is just screwed up from the get-go I just can't wait till they start trying to put electric delivery trucks for the mail that's going to be another cluster mess they'll be breaking down they won't know how to fix them they'll be stranded cuz they ran out of electricity right the thing that was called delivery to America plan the 10e initiative is intended to enhance the efficiency of the post office but three years into it it appears the projections really fell short they have machines that are supposed to make it fast they don't work they don't know how to operate it they don't put them in and then they don't work at all absolutely insane to begin with who the heck's using a post office you know use UPS or FedEx they're always there they're faster you don't get things broken we've gotten stuff that people sent us in the post office in a box it was all broken inside because they didn't care they'd thrown it all over the place broken the inside I know they have that problem with UPS and FedEx right they act like they're not in a competitive World guess what you are now the people can't even get their package delivered in parts of Houston because their efficient machine that was supposed to make it better well they can't figure out how to operate the things and how to set them up right yes the USPS
