Alternatively, if you take the line to any auto parts store that makes hydraulic hoses, they can crimp in a new hose section for you.

welcome back everybody great to have you at the shop here today do you have a car or truck with a leaking transmission cooler line if you do then you might want to watch this video because I'm going to show you a quick and dirty way to repair that leak for as little money as possible hope you enjoy so here is the transmission cooler line we'll be working on today I have removed it from the car you can do this repair in the car out of the car whichever you choose to do this is the crimp fitting right here that is leaking on this transmission cooler line so what I'm going to show you today the technique I'm going to use involves a angle grinder you can also use a reciprocating saw saw saw to cut a slit on one side and also the exact opposite side one-eighty through this aluminum crimp fitting but at the same time trying not to cut this hose you can replace this hose if you would like to but if your hoses intact after getting this crimp fitting off you can simply reuse the old hose as long as it looks good to you and it's still pliable so without further ado let's get to cutting so get your safety glasses on your protection would also be a good idea for this [Music] now as you can tell I didn't cut completely through this aluminum crimp fitting here the reason being is as soon as you see the hose the black spots in there stop cutting and move down the line if there's a little pieces left like this that is okay on the part where we're going to use a flat blade screwdriver you'll see this won't be an issue separating the crimp fitting so now once you've cut one side we're gonna do the exact opposite 180 degrees from this cut [Music] all right now that we have cuts both sides of the current fitting all the way through we can take yourself a flat blade screwdriver and get in between the hoes and the fitting simply pry outward it will separate and at the very back here or forward which other where this is on your car this is the only part that we remain connected after you cut it so you just have to keep leveraging it up until it gives just like that bend it a few times you got one half off then the other half comes off after doing that separates so at this point whether you'd like to replace this hose this soft hose on your trans cooler line or you just simply want to replace this crimp here this is where it may differ I'm going to reuse my hose on this line if you'd like to replace yours go ahead and do so and do the same exact on the other compression crimp fitting whatever you may call it okay now that I've gotten them separated I just like to take a rag of some sort clean off the hardline make sure you did not cut through it anywhere sorry about the glare there and seems to be untouched so that is good so the hose originally came up to this first flare right here we we want to try and get the hosts past that flare best we can as far as we can as much slack as there isn't a hose that it will allow for us to do that and you may notice that trying to put the soft hose back on it wants to stop right there it gives you a lot of tension and it's rather difficult to put on so that being said I like to take a pair of pointy pliers of some sort and put them in the hose and being careful not to damage the inside of the hose and kind of separating expanding the hose rather so that it will fit over these flares here more easily so that's what I'm going to do for demonstration here and then we will go to clamping the hose on the hard liner so I've got my pliers here they're smooth on the outer edge so they should not cut into the hose what we're going to do here push them in and then give them a rotate and keep pushing and turning at the same time best you can make sure not to tear the hose in anyway once you've done that a couple times I like to take your favorite silicone spray put that in the hose makes going on a lot easier we're going to push the hose on and over the flares now in my case this is not going to go past the flares it just goes right over them and stops I'm ok with that because there were grooves in the hardline that will prevent this hose from blowing out when the clamps are on it the main goal of a reasoning behind getting past those flares is to give the clamps better grip and preventing this hose from slipping off so once that is on there go ahead grab yourself to number six hose clamps that's what I'll be using in this video two of them I always like to double up on the hose clamps on the east because there's a good bit of pressure on these and you don't want these blowing out unexpectedly put these on there nicely just put them on loose at first so you can get them both in the same orientation now if I remember the first of the two flares is about right here so we're gonna put this right up against it put the other hose clamp right there as well just like those down and before you go crazy and tighten this thing way up be sure that if you did take this line out of your car that this hose and the hard line on the other side are in the correct orientation for going back in the car it's just easier doing it out of the car and making sure it's in the right orientation if you get it messed up all you have to do is loosen these once it's in the car and installed and simply just twist it and then retighten something that you don't feel like doing that you could also mark the hard line and the soft hose as long as you are reusing this hose and then just match those two lines up once you're putting it back together and I should go back the same way it came apart so once you have it where you'd like and you got the clamps on where you want I'm gonna go ahead and get a end wrench here and hand tighten these you don't want these things super super tight as these clamps like to break if you over tighten them just enough to get some pressure on there and I can get that in focus there we go so and yeah like I said it's a quick and dirty method but if you don't feel like spending money on brand new cooler lines or you just have to get by with what you have for the time being this is a great way to do that it's very inexpensive you basically either just need the two hose clamps or some new hose as well and then the tools hey guys still there wonderful hey I want to thank you so much for watching this video I hope it was useful to you and helpful and you got some little bits of information from it here and there I just want to add one more bit of information to this video and that is if you end up having to replace your cooler line hose that you only replace the hose with transmission cooler line hose it is made specifically for this use in this repair and it will give you no issues down the road long after the repair is done thank you so much again for watching and I look forward to reading all your comments if you have any questions please feel free to leave those down in the comment section below and if you liked this video and please give it a thumbs up thank you
