Health split arena is a physics melee focused VR game with excellent graphics and high polish that's just added some of the best if not the best mod support I've seen in a VR game when I say that it's a literal Game Changer I mean it because the built Frameworks for modern Firearms including full manual reloads as well as things like vehicles that you're fully drivable using your motion controls to steer it's gone from a melee focused game into what other people can create game and it has some really powerful tools which allow you to build out complete levels and create mini or even full length campaigns they've given full access to all the existing environmental assets enemies and weapons and obviously you can create and add your own as well it's a massive deal for the game and with some tweaks and enough Community Support it could actually elevate a health spit Arena to become one of the best VR games ever made I'll talk more about some tweaks and changes that I'd like to see later on in the video but let's take a look at what already exists the mods are kind of separated into separate categories you've got new weapons both melee and ranged you've got Avatar Replacements which are just Cosmetics so you change the in-game body Vehicles which you can drive around as well as Maps which can be used for sandbox where you spawn in enemies and mess around in them or even full-length campaigns with point-to-point levels with set enemies that you have to kill or more hard base levels where you've got a currency system that you can use to buy upgrades and defeat waves of enemies mod support only got added a couple of weeks ago so don't expect a massive amount of stuff yet but there's still a reasonable amount to be messing around with melee mod weapons include the blades of chaos from God of War which have got a Firepower which can be activated by pressing the trigger you've got clouds Buster sword from Final Fantasy crowbar in case you want to bring out your inner Gordon Freeman and a spiked baseball bat for ranged weapons you've got modern Firearms which include a couple of assault rifles [Music] a pump action shotgun and a few different versions of Berettas and USB pistols there's a desert eagle [Music] foreign RPG amongst others Avatar Replacements include a modern military outfit and perhaps the best which is a Batman Avatar which also includes throwable batarangs as well as a drivable Batmobile we just need some sort of grappling hook so we can zip around and it will be complete Vehicles include the default buggy which has got a boogie version of the frozen lake map that you can drive around in there's a Half-Life 2 Boogie as well as an American muscle car and they've got a garage map with some roads that you can drive around in to test out the different vehicles include a shooting range to test out guns an ancient Egyptian map with pyramids that you go inside which looks really good there's a map called blood gladiatorium which is a very red themed map with a large Gothic cathedral in the background which looks fantastic there's a map in a cathedral which has got really nice lighting and a lava pit that you can kick enemies into they've also got the Tuscany level which is based on a very early VR map from the dev kit days and is featured in boneworks and Bone lab this version has been extended so you can spawning cars and then drive them around thank you [Music] there's only one campaign mod at the moment which is a Resident Evil 4 Village replica that is a full-on game mode with currency upgrades and waves of enemies that you have to defeat you've even got a leon Avatar included they did a really good job of capturing the look and feel of the Resident Evil 4 Village area and it's fun using different weapons they give you to take care of all the bad guys that are trying to kill you there's also a full-length campaign mod that's been in development for a while which has got token NPCs which will hopefully release soon the big thing about the mod support of Health Arena over others is the tools that you get to use to make mods with the game's built on Unreal Engine and the developers have created workbench which is effectively a branch of Unreal Engine which means that you get a lot of the same features that allow you to create entire levels and campaigns from scratch you can use the pre-existing templates for different weapons so you can use the auto rifle template for example which has got a blueprint with all the reload mechanics to import to a different gun you've got all the existing assets from the main game to build out levels or you can import your own assets and because it's built with unreal this means that you have a guy access to loads of high quality free assets including the qixel mega scan stuff it's fully open so you can create things from scratch and use your own blueprints or use straight code if you're smart enough the possibilities are endless and if the modding Community really get behind this then I expect to see some incredible mods that transform the game into many different genres it's not all positive though they do have some pre-existing templates for things like modern day firearms and it could do with some tweaking to make it better some of the guns don't line up perfectly with your hand so your aim is slightly off to the left like this pistol the worst part is how they move around when you move with a thumbstick if you're strafe left and right you can see how the gun moves around even though my hand is perfectly still which affects the aim of the gun they really need to fix this issue so that when you're moving around it always stays aimed where your hand is pointing the guns have also got manual reloading which could do with some tweaks with the pistol you can grab the slide to Rack a no bullet in the chamber but for some reason when the gun's empty this doesn't work you have to press the trigger to rack the first bullet then you can manually really hold the slide and pull back as much as you want there's no button to manually remove the magazine at least what I couldn't find you have to fire the gun until it's empty and then you pull the trigger again to drop the mag out then you grab a new one and bring it up to the bottom but it doesn't actually go in until you let go of the magazine then a little animation plays to load it into the gun this should be activated by proximity so that as your hand comes close to the bottom of the gun it should then automatically finish the reload I would also speed up the animation as it's a little bit slow you want the movement of the animation to match your own hand movement and you're better off being too fast and too slow this is the same for all guns including two-handed but to remove the magazine on these you have to grab the old one then press the trigger to remove it then it works the same as a pistol where you have to let go of the mag for it to finish the reload the problem with the guns moving around with your thumbstick movement is even worse for 200 weapons you can see that when I move left the gun lanks to the right and vice versa completely changing the aim of the gun the shotgun doesn't have this problem though so I'm not really sure what the difference is but the shotgun actually behaves more like we would expect the 200 weapons have also got some heavy damping which is overdone so when you move your hands around the lag making them feel very lethargic and unresponsive with your hand movements this needs to be toned down so it's more one-to-one with your actual hand movements they've also got it so you can grab the guns anywhere which sounds like a good idea but this can also cause issues they've got a bolt action rifle and look what happens when I let go of with the trigger hand to Rack a ball the gun drops down when it should hold in position of the gun keeping in place trying to grab the bolt is also problematic at times because as I mentioned you can grab anywhere on the gun so you can end up grabbing the wrong part I think it would be best to make it more like most VR games where you've got set points on the gun that you can grab and I personally prefer using the trigger for grabbing the ball or other parts that are movable for wrecking a slide as it stops you accidentally grabbing the wrong part by mistake these issues aside overall what the developers have built is great but the future mods and content are going to depend on how many people start to get involved in modding for health but Arena I think one thing that really needs to get added is human enemies with modern firearms that shoot back at you because right now you only have the same enemies from the main game which are Undead style baddies who are mostly melee Fighters and they've got some which have got a bow and arrow but the no contest against the modern firearm if they can add human AI enemies a shoot back and take cover modders can literally make more modern first-person shooter campaigns I also think they need to work on attracting modders to the game with so many games this mod support like blade and sorcery bone lab Half-Life Alex contractor zero caliber battle Talent people have only got so much time to spend on this stuff with Half-Life Alex you've got so many incredible single player mini campaigns and for a while the community ran competitions where map makers will have a few weeks to make a map within a certain theme and the top three got cash prizes the developers really need to work with the community to bring really high quality mods and campaigns to elevate the game which in turn will attract more people to game and result in more sales I think some sort of competition series with cash prizes would give modders an incentive to make stuff for the game and will obviously really give the game a much bigger player base and that'll be the end of the video thanks for watching if you made it this far and as always a massive thank you to my patreon and YouTube members
