[Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] m [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] thank you jesus [Music] thank you jesus hallelujah praise the lord praise god let me start off by saying to the family that is uh going through bereavement that from the youth the sunday school that we're praying for you um and uh i don't know if toby's here and andy marlon we're continually praying for you and may the lord give you the peace that passes all understanding for today's english message i will ask you to turn to the book of acts chapter 18 acts chapter 18. so we've been studying the second missionary journey of paul we know that in this particular missionary journey paul took along silas instead of barnabas and that timothy joined them and then they had a vision that said don't go into asia the holy spirit said don't go into asia and then when they were going to ready to go into bithynia we see that the holy spirit said don't go there either if you would put up the map for me the holy spirit said don't go into asia or bethenny and we see a vision that paul had a macedonian man that said come and help us and in the second missionary journey we see paul and silas along with timothy going on to philippi and we've talked about what happened in philippi we talked about what happened in thessalonica last week justin talked about what happened in berea and the weeks before me and joe we spoke about we spoke about what happened in athens and in chapter 18 were up to a place called corinth and that is what we will study about today if you look at the map there you'll see that greece is split into a northern peninsula and a southern peninsula and a narrow isthmus that connects the northern part of greece to the southern part of greece is a city called corinth it was a place of great trade because things goods that needed to go from asia uh and the middle east to rome would be taken by sea to the aegean sea and because it was just a few miles just three to four miles they would unload it on the one side on one port and they would take it by land for three miles to the other side and then take it on to italy or to rome we know that this was an important city for trade and estimates say that 200 to 500 000 people lived in this city when we study the history of the city we see that this was a sin city the other name for the city was a sin city and there were many temples there just as we learned about in athens in corinth there were many cities many temples and one of the temple was a temple of aphrodite and if you study the word if you study the history you'll see that there were temple priestesses that were in the temple of aphrodite and there was many sin that was going on in that city it was central for commerce and trade as i said it was a large populous city of close to 500 000 people if you look back in the beginning of acts chapter chapters you'll see the beautiful gate was made out of this corinthian bronze that is produced so in all important ways it was a very important city but it was a city that was full of sin and debauchery and a sin city and it was in this city that now paul has reached remember his state of mind as he has started out with many people in this second missionary journey but he is now all alone he had to go to athens by himself and he has now ended up in corinth by himself his mental state is something that we need to think about when we think of paul we think of like uh rambo or we think of like you know someone who is uh the hulk or somebody like that that is so strong in their faith but there is a word of the lord that comes to him that makes us think that he was afraid in this city of corinth so let us read that with that background if you would put up the first scripture portion here after this paul left athens and went to corinth and he found a jew named akilah a native of pontus recently came from italy with his wife priscilla because claudius had commanded all the jews to leave rome and he went to see them so even though he is going alone to corinth the lord made people there for him akilah a native of pontus which is in asia and his wife priscilla they had just been exiled out of rome and they had been living there and because they worked the same job tent makers paul went and saw him and because of the same trade he stayed with them and worked there making tents and he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath and try to persuade the jews and the greeks so paul even though he doesn't have silas or timothy with him is working by the weekdays and on the weekends he is preaching the gospel speaking to the jews and the greeks that were in the synagogue as was his usual he would first speak in the synagogues and see what reaction he would get out of the jews next portion when silas and timothy arrived from macedonia paul was occupied with the word testifying of the jews that christ was jesus we can see later in other portions that silas and timothy came with a lot of money from macedonia and uh this was a free gift that was given to them and paul was now freed up where he didn't have to be vibrational he didn't have to work as much and he could preach the gospel more days and he was testifying to the jews about christ as the messiah christ jesus but the jews they started to oppose him like usual like happened in thessalonica berea and they opposed him and reviled him he shook out his garments and said to them your blood be on our heads on your own heads i am innocent and now on i will go on to the gentiles so paul is saying you jews i come to you first i preach in your synagogues and you don't listen to me i'm going on and he was probably upset but said this your blood is on your own heads i am innocent from now on i will go speak to the gentiles and he left there and went on to the house of a man named titus justice a worshiper of god his house was next door to the synagogue christmas the ruler of the synagogue believed in the lord together with his entire household and many of the corinthians hearing paul believed and were baptized we see a glimmer of hope that some of the people titus justice and crispus the ruler of the synagogue started to believe in the lord but if you look at paul's psychological mind frame at this point he had been attacked we know he was stoned to almost death in lystra and then he knows that he's been chased out of thessalonica he has been chased out of berea and he was mocked and ridiculed in athens and now he is in a city called corinth and even the jewish people are not accepting him and he had to go with just a few people and started to preach the gospel and a few people started to believe and were baptized i like to focus on the last part of the scripture right here verse 9 through 11. paul when he was discouraged when he was in this city of sin when this city that was full of sinners he could have easily said it's time for me to move on if the people in more civilized places like thessalonica and berea had chased me off i probably don't want to stay here long term and paul his vision changed when he had a night vision from the lord the lord said and appeared to paul and said one night in a vision do not be afraid but go on speaking do not be silent for i am with you and no one will attack you or harm you for i have many in the city who are my people amen so here the lord is encouraging paul for the lord to say do not be afraid or fear not the lord had to know that paul's heart was wavering he had to be full of anxiety or fear and the lord is saying do not be afraid for i am with you and we see i broke this down as three seas that we see in this that is able to give courage and cure the fear of paul the three c's that give paul supernatural courage that says do not be afraid i am with you the first was a counsel from the lord that says go on speaking do not be silent paul might have been discouraged and thinking you know it is the spirit of the lord a man that told me to come to europe to macedonia and now i'm being chased out of thessalonica i'm being chased out of berea i'm being mocked in athens and now i'm coming to the worst city of them all sin city all the people's heart is so hardened and the lord is saying do not be afraid for i am with you go on speaking do not be silent and i'm sure that was a comfort and encouragement for paul the second c is a word of comfort that the lord gave him no one will attack you or harm you specifically in corinth as we know paul was attacked in leicester lystra and he was left for dead he was stoned and people thought he was dead and they let him left him there but he got up miraculously and started going back to the group and preaching we see that in thessalonica and also in berea he was chased out by night the people had to take him out of that city and he might have been thinking about his uh physical well-being especially in a city like corinth which was sin city and all of these uh false sinful lustful things going on in this city and here the lord is comforting him giving him spiritual encouragement to say no one will attack you or harm you in corinth you know you might wonder why in corinth but maybe the lord had some supernatural purposes and we don't know about all the details maybe the reason that paul had to go through those things was to bring him to corinth because he had some people in corinth in mind many times when we go through sufferings and we wonder why are we going through this hardship it may be the lord leading us to a place of obedience to a place where he has his counsel for us where he has his comfort for us and bring us to a place where he will then protect us the third c that is given to paul is a sea that says i have a community in mind for you you know at this time there was not a big church in corinth in fact as i said it was a sinful city with the priestesses of the temple of aphrodite um the goddess of fertility and uh sensual things and they were ruling the city with uh working at night for their money for the temple and so there this was a sinful city and paul is told by the lord i have seen many people who will be saved in this city they are my people you need to preach to this city you need to stay strong in this city do not be afraid for i am with you after hearing this from the lord we see that paul's fears were cured and he gained courage or was encouraged paul was strengthened and stayed in that city for another year and a half i believe this is the place that he stayed the longest in his missionary journeys and there was a beautiful church a church a body of believers a harvest that he reaped in corinth for the kingdom of god and we see later it is to that same church during his third missionary journey that he writes and gives advice the book of corinthians chapter 1 and chapter 2. we see some life application messages here i don't know what you're going through but if the lord is the one who has promised that he will be with us if god has said as romans in romans paul says if god be for us who can be against us as the prophet isaiah says fear not for i am with you do not be dismayed for i am your god i will strengthen you i will help you i will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness the lord all throughout the scripture says those who are called according to his purpose even though when we go through trials even though when we go through ridicule even though when we go through beatings the lord has a plan and a purpose and he is saying to us do not be afraid i am with you i don't know what each person is going through i know the family that is going through bereavement i know the people that are starting off school and there is a worldwide pandemic but the lord is saying do not be afraid for i am with you go on and speak do not be silent no one will attack you or harm you this virus cannot kill you community get in community because there is the lord who says i have brought other people together i have seen many people that are to be useful along with you to build up the kingdom of god what great assurance we have whatever uncertain times you're going through if fear has entered in we can say as david said the lord is on my side i am not afraid what can man do to me worship team come on up just like david when he faced the goliath he was able to say you can come against me with the sword and the shield but i come against you in the name of the living god just like paul who was stoned in lystra in philippi can we say can we say lord i will obey your word and i will take your counsel your comfort and i will obey you no matter what the circumstances i am going through he is the waymaker he is the miracle worker when we don't know what is going on when we don't even see it he is working behind the scenes and he is the one that is saying do not be afraid for i am with you do not be afraid for i am with you i am your god i am your savior the lord jesus who is the creator of all the universe the omniscient god the omnipotent god the omnipresent god is saying to us do not be afraid for i am with you i don't know if this word is for someone who is going through something today but the lord is saying go on speaking the gospel you don't need to be afraid no one will attack you and if there is there is the omnipotent god who is there by your side i have many people in this city and then we'll be able to see a great harvest together may god bless you all with these words let's all stand together [Music] um [Music] with one word the storm will be gone [Music] with one word the blind man can see with one word the captive is free with one word [Music] your name is power in every circumstance jesus in your name will make mountains disappear one word conquers all fear sing his name jesus [Music] jesus jesus [Music] with one word my soul is relieved with one word the devil will flee with one word my hurricanes will [Music] cease one where the world is redeemed [Music] is [Music] [Applause] jesus in your name will make mountains disappear lord conquers [Music] every circumstance jesus in your name will make mountains disappear one word conquers all fear jesus jesus jesus [Music] jesus jesus [Music] it's just one word just one word [Music] my soul is safe i am jesus [Music] [Applause] [Music] than honey on my lips your name is power in every circumstance jesus in your name will make mountains disappear one word [Music] conquers jesus jesus jesus jesus [Music] just one word just one word the precious name of jesus [Music] i was reminded of this passage um from john 11 this week i just wanted to read a few verses from it before we sing this last song and so this is after lazarus has died and martha is saying to jesus in verse 21 lord if you had been here my brother would not have died but even now i know that whatever you ask from god god will give you jesus said to her your brother will rise again martha said to him i know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day and jesus said to her i am the resurrection and the life whoever believes in me though he die yet shall he live that is quite the revelation that she received right there she knows that she's talking to the messiah but she doesn't understand the the full depth and the power and the wonder and the the the power that is god that is the son of god i know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day and then he replies i am the resurrection i am the life we know that god the father that on the last day the the saints will rise again but we sometimes forget that jesus is the resurrection that because of his death on the cross what he showed how he took the keys from death how he loosed the pains of death we sometimes forget that he is the resurrection and just as we're reminded in philippians [Music] to live is christ and to die is gain to live is christ and to die is gain and lord we thank you that you are so loving to us that you did not want death for us not death in a mortal sense but in the eternal sense because just as jesus was reminding them early on in the passage he says the illness does not lead to death because it's for the glory of god so that the son of man may be glorified through it eternal death is being separated from the father that's why he's saying this illness does not lead to death eternal death is being separated from the father yet jesus did not want that for us so he took it upon himself he faced every kind of anguish and torment and he took that upon himself and we know what happens three days later he rose again and he put death in its place satan thought he was victorious he thought he had won the battle but then three days later he rose again christ rose again and put death in its place so that we might live so that we might be able to give glory to god so thank you lord that you are willing to come down and breathe the air that we breathe to walk the ground that we walk to to teach us to show us signs and wonders to point back to the father to show us that death is just temporary and though we mourn though we feel the the anguish and the sorrow we know that death is temporary but your kingdom is eternal so lord we thank you that you took every sin all of our sin all of our filth you took it upon yourself and even as we are still here lord in this sinful world we're reminded that we serve a sinless god so lord would you just take glory in this worship lord we are feeble beings lord we sing these songs and sometimes we our head is in a different area our mind is in a different place maybe our mind is in our work our mind is in our family our mind is in our school and sometimes we sing these songs and we can't understand just how deep these words are the meaning is lord but i pray that you who are rich in love and mercy god would take glory in this lord as we sing this song this this gospel song this gospel story this redemption story lord remind us of what you did on that cross god remind us that the victory is ours because of your blood [Music] how great the character that lay between us how high the mountain i could not climb in desperation i turned to heaven and spoke your name into the night then through the darkness your loving kindness tore through the shadows of my soul the work is finished the end is written jesus christ my hope who could imagine so great a mercy my heart could fathom such boundless grace the god of ages stepped down from glory to where my sin and bear my shame the cross has spoken i am forgiven the king of kings calls me his own thank you lord beautiful savior i'm yours forever jesus christ my [Music] he's the one who set me free [Music] jesus christ hallelujah [Music] jesus christ [Music] then came the morning [Music] out of the silence the roaring light declare the drake has no claim on your buried body begins to breathe [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] jesus [Music] salvation jesus christ [Applause] [Music] jesus christ jesus [Music] foreign [Music] the lord said in december look not on his countenance or in the height of his stature because i refuse him for the lord looks at the heart david independent to be the king of israel he was looking at the condition of david's heart foreign and we were meditating david had a believing heart a thankful heart a honest heart a humble heart and an open heart david had a heart that was focused towards god psalm number 19 verse 14 is familiar to each of us and here david is having an earnest prayer that oh lord let the meditation of the heart be pleasing in your sights that was meditating towards god and we can see upon david that who looks upon the former men and the heavens and he could see the glory of god through the nature it was proclaiming that there is a living god and through the world it was said that there is power in this word of god portion we can understand that david had a heart that was focusing in the presence of god at all times and at the same time david once said what is the reason he wants good spiritual condition of other people or this question and i go into the process of god there is a very important reason [Music] i want to be in the temple of the lord all days of my life all the days of my life i want to dwell in the temple of god [Music] know the word meditation has become very popular in our current context and we know yoga which is a form of meditation is very popular in the world you hold it for a little bit and then you can see the results that is what we talked around and in the christian circles also there is this meditation and the meditation centers becoming popular people to come to a specific place and turn the attention for all other things and focus their mind on meditation but when a child of god understands meditation what does it mean what does the word of god teach us and the word of god teaches us that meditation means you meditate on god and the word of god as we meditate in such a fashion we see that the spirit of god start talking also in the he'll say go into the closets and pray the reason is because he's warning that your attention will focus on [Music] and now we have a lot of conferences and seminars and we don't have any of those kind of things and nothing none of those things are happening i don't know what is every conference there is seven to eight preachers and people have the messages in the head but nothing is going down in the heart now that i think nobody's coming because of it and we are going to look into what is a meditating heart more blessing [Music] watches my soul shall be satisfied everything that no one is and we are not but at the same time he was told not to eat and he was discontent because he wanted to eat that very specifically vertically god walk with them but they listen to the next pastor's message meetings in a week we still not content why was there no preaching today but now they are burning these brakes making this motor breaks out of motors and that was happening oh came to a situation their own children they had to kill them by putting them in the nile rivers oh god broke the chains and god released them from the bondage of the slavery of pharaoh then we can see a continuation of the list of the miracles trees so much the people could have it abundantly we can see that the pillar of cloud was over them as they were walking in this burning heat of the wilderness them they could reach very easily but still they will not continue after eating the meat but still they were not content every day they were murmuring they were complaining what is instead of meditating on the commandments that was returned by the fiery hands of god upon the tablets oh they were meditating on the egypt which they had left how we can have no sickness no danger no death and how can we happy all the day [Applause] [Applause] [Music] that leads us to this there is only one thing we can do and some is just saying all around me there is i have no dreams that next morning there is going to be a fountain that is going to be open oh i was not dreaming that this wilderness oh but my thirst was more than for water for god oh there are night times when your heart is so weak and so fainted we cannot do anything there is only one thing i can do you know oh i will get on god and the works of god oh i will meditate [Applause] a sentence or a word from the word of god you have you are kind of let it sit in your heart that is what it is my heart was hot within me while i was amusing the fire burned then i speak with my time children of god meditation that can bring fire and it is our companionship that makes us a sin with our mouth and that's what the song of one says do not walk in the path of the sinners that do not sit in the seat of scornful or in the past if you are not careful of the path that we are walking in our sid we will commit sin with our tongues and the psalmist says next i will guard my mouth to say very meaningfully then only you can keep your tongue if you do not have to be giving response to everything therefore sometimes people might be talking about the subject that we know very well don't just have your opinion at all the places the word of god teaches us be slow in speaking and fast and hearing we need to learn to tame our tongue oh we have to tame our tongue and we need to have have tongue with them and that's why the word of god says that we should not have any kind of justice words or any of those kind of things that is coming from the mouth of a child of god and the third thing the semester is reminding me i will be mute and be silent there are times when i'll be mute and silence you might have not gone to college but when somebody looks at you in that kind of situation they'll say oh he's calling for this and because of that saying that many times i not received blessings oh i should have spoken back he was pained in his heart oh is there anybody in trouble like this give me an opportunity let me speak couple of words oh if i spoke up i would have some blessings your mouth and be mute and silence oh i started offering my heart in the presence of god oh lord what is your plan about my life started changing back that was completely dead though oh all the unwanted all the default thoughts thank god for the word of god which is going to burn it thank god oh when we say meditate in such a manner that is what is going to happen sanctification then what should we think if you have a conflict with somebody what do we need to meditate when you have conflict with someone else what you should talk about do not think about ways of taking revenge for you to meditate on i'm going to give you a few things those who want to read it and write it you can do it but practice it at home or if you have to have things are pure whatsoever things are lovely whatsoever things are a good report if there be any virtue and if there be any place think on these things can you take your thoughts and compare with all this eight or nine oh it is a true or it is false and every thing that's when there is going to be fire in your meditation oh all the bitterness all the malice there is fire of the word of god with your heart and that be your meditation what will come through our mouth when you have the fire of the word of god in your heart what is going to come out of your mouth it will consume every unwanted things and it's going to bring forth something extraordinary out of our mouth it will consume and burn everything and we'll go to how good things are [Music] what is the measure of my days don't let me know that i am but let me know how frail i am they [Music] [Music] [Applause] forgiveness [Applause] for any person every person [Applause] a meditating heart brings strength within us a meditating heart brings strength within us so that your hearts will not be worried and faint in your minds consider him that ends here with the such contradiction of sinners against himself here also paul is instructing us oh but your [Music] all the afflictions or the persecutions that the jesus went through as he was afflicted by the sinners and the meaning is that whenever you are weary lift your eyes and look to cross foreign [Applause] think about the nails that were piercing and nailed into his hearts at the time he's meditating and he's saying please forgive these people foreign [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] is jesus christ when you meditated [Applause] foreign foreign hallelujah let me say one more thing and finish here a meditating heart tear up our living hop a meditating heart stirs up our living [Music] foreign but when you start thinking about things saying that we're going to have a shining hope over there and what is the shining hope in the next verse foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] is [Music] know [Music] foreign [Music] is [Music] is [Music] m [Music] [Music] is [Music] thank you for this beautiful sunday morning lord we thank you for bringing us together this passion to lift his glorious in love faster one more week you kept us safe though we are gone through many tough times we experiencing the pain and agony of the separation of our dear brother at the same time thank you for the great
