The guy Crotty replaced as color commentator, Coach Tony Fiorentino, is seen in the huddle. He was an assistant coach.

The Heat were good against the Bulls during the 1996-1997 season. We split the season series 2-2.

Then met then in the conference finals. The first two games in Chicago were close and winnable. Miami won game 4. Game 5 was close at times. It was a long-shot, but Miami was very competitive.

Wow MJ looked mortal. Based on twitter, the media and comments about MJ youโ€™d think he never misses and drops 40+ a game.

[Music] this is the NBA on NBC the 1997 Eastern Conference Finals [Music] today it's the Chicago Bulls versus the Miami Heat but Chicago Bulls hoping to close out the series and for the Miami Heat looking to extend in the Windy City no team an NBA playoff history has come back from a three-hour deficit task facing the heat this afternoon hi everybody I'm Marv Albert along with Matt Lucas and Matt Alvo the Bulls have certainly had their uneven moments during the course of this a playoff run they are 10 up and one down in the postseason and certainly appear to be back on track while the Bulls are getting it together at both ends of the floor and it's the big three right in the middle of things with Michael Jordan doing just about everything including overpowering little guards to the basket like Tim Hardaway and Scottie Pippen enjoying better health this season adding the post up game to his arsenal and Dennis Rodman still not in top shape coming back from a knee injury but he still manages to get into the mix on almost every play and always trying to get into the heads of his opponents and with Jordan and Pippen carrying the scoring load getting 63% of the Bulls points in this series and Rodman staying on the floor for longer stretches Chicago is peaking at just the right time and among the many problems experienced by Miami and Game three on Saturday the fact that there are two key players Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway were non-factor well Miami has counted on these two all season long but their production has dropped off dramatically they he wouldn't really be here without the heroics of Tim Hardaway against Orlando in New York but his shooting has been way off especially the three-pointers just 2 for 17 and Alonzo Mourning is having all kinds of problems including turnovers at an alarming rate and Alonzo Mourning made the statement after Game three we will the next game Marv evidently Alonso has spotted something everyone else has missed and as always we are joined on the sidelines by Ahmad Rashad let's check in with them on all right thanks Marv you heard Alonzo Mourning in our opening saying he guarantees a win now that caused a reaction among the Bulls Michael Jordan said that he would have been better off saying he would guarantee that they play better and play harder and let the outcome work himself out on the court now Dennis Rodman said he didn't care he figured that if you win money will just win Wednesday now in all my years in sports that is the strangest most different answer I've ever heard from an athlete but I must say that Dennis is one of the most strangest and different kind of athletes that I've met now who we do believe Dennis Rodman or Alonzo Mourning one of the great things about sports we get a chance to sit back relax and for the next two and a half hours let everything work itself out on the court large all right thank you about and coming up in moments it'll be Game four of this best of seven Karthus final series the heat hoping to stay alive before seeking to wrap it up [Music] the NBA on NBC is brought to you by Miller Lite who reminds you that anything can happen at Miller time by the 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse the sports car that speaks your language built for living and by MCI is this a great time or what well a hot and humid 89 3-day in South Florida as we welcome you back to Miami arena the Miami Heat of the 97 players for and Olin facing elimination involved in a game five against the Orlando remember they were down 3-1 against the Knicks ahead of stave off three games for elimination a look at the starting line of both teams going in the same out of they did in Game three on Saturday the officials FC run Bob Delaney yo for Jay look long way Alonzo Mourning ha the opening tip and it's controlled and the Chicago Bulls are expecting an emotional charge out of the Miami Heat in an effort to get this crowd going for the I gotta make some shots [Applause] PJ Brown [Applause] and here comes Scottie Pippen to Ole Miss first of all a short alarm shot by PJ Brown and Miami he want to go Dennis Rodman they don't don't respect his one-on-one defense that much for the powerful transition defensive play by a massacre and Harper with the steel rod opportunity here in deep three on Saturday Bob Rashad telling us a lot so morning refusing to shake the hand of Michael Jordan just and it will be Miami ball indeed three on Saturday on disastrous performance by the Miami Heat Tim Hardaway said it was embarrassing we just went Pat Riley said total embarrassment but I'll tell you why Park professional players very resilient by the tonight by the time the players get to their car after the game you really put that game behind them and have to get ready for the next day which by the way was a grueling three-hour practice with Pat Riley's foul called on Mashburn and Pippin will put it in play if there is a game five would take place Wednesday night in Chicago [Applause] [Music] Griffin picked up on morning and the game is tied at two Tippett to long way [Applause] into the [Applause] have been looking for from tomorrow I don't know explosion a little aggressiveness challenged a defender and take the ball the rim and then something good will happen as you did there in an offensive boat missed a baseline jumper but able to hit on the try Khatami gave it four [Applause] with the nine turnovers one of four from the field on Saturday and a little adjustment there Alonso thought and did something with the ball immediately what it's been doing in the past game catch turn phase hold weight and it has really stagnated the offense of Miami and lot so morning has come out in his first two shots shot clock at two [Applause] the glass so the ball back to Miami well Ron Harper has been given a lot of credit for slowing down Tim Hardaway says hey I had nothing to do with this Tim Hardaway slowly himself down finally played only 32 minutes on Saturday he scored 13 15 and 6 points that's the breakdown in the three games of the serve the hopper [Applause] that's what the Bulls have been doing throughout this series even though they have not been shooting the ball particularly well then the quicker team to the loose balls the quicker team to the second shot opportunities as the Heat stand flat-footed tied [Music] Delaney with the call against Chicago here's a line so morning running from right there in the middle with that penetration knew all he had to do was to get beyond Luke lonely and then Alonzo Mourning turn catch shoot and stop waiting for the deep for the offensive players to space the floor get everybody legal and then try to halt the floor and make his move parry see the scoring by Michael Jordan in the season actually has raised it throughout the playoffs and Scottie Pippen also playing well in this series as well the amiable six onion I've been posting up on brown [Music] [Applause] and the past say by brown PJ [Applause] Oh morning with his third field goal and as that ball went through the net morning in it vertically I think hit Dennis Robin in the back of the head and on the way back down the floor kind of look it's stripped out and said you're gonna get a lot of [Applause] hesitating and [Applause] Phil Jackson very calm because the Bulls as I said earlier expected this kind of emotional charge when the Bulls more than zero just try to be whether it and stay in the game in his first quarter Luc Longley was in foul trouble the other day five fouls in 11 minutes never able to get into it finally with the lead [Applause] for the open floor [Applause] and a timeout called by Chicago so Alonzo Mourning coming out in a different manner the heat 5-4 with 651 to go in this first quarter and Tim Hardaway trying to get it code he's been a very tired player forcing himself into the action taking that three in slow transition as Pat Riley happy to see this start Miami starting out in a hot fashion Chicago has begun slowly and Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning hoping to turn things around early early going Alonzo has well and they need him to be aggressive in every area not just scoring he's got to run the floor and he's got a rebound he's got to make the passes out of the double-team and he has to make his free throws which he really has done a better job of in the last couple of games [Applause] said on his first two quotes from three-point range Miami 15 and Chicago eight for broken up by letter Hardaway [Applause] goodbye what by long way Miami will maintain possession big factor for Miami at the beginning of this first quarter really hacking their defense in something they've been unable to do in the first three games in this series forcing the Bulls to take perimeter shots by aming with 22 on the shot clock [Applause] mr. cha letter [Applause] a team at the Falls ate Michael George has missed his first three field goal attempts to from downtown Miami with a 12-2 run and look one way keeps it alive there's Pitman setting it on [Applause] a big problem for Miami throughout the series unable to make the three-point shot and they feel that they've been getting a lot of open looks that one was actually challenged pretty well by Ron Harper and then the defense compressing once again as Jordan slid in to try to help all morning we even Leonard open [Applause] Michael Jordan 20 bulls on for Sean Leonard and then the shot to star burn comes away with him my appendix remaining in this first quarter the explosives start fine Miami they are in front of Chicago eg a nice pass it counts the foul Harper setting up with the bounce pass while the Bulls of running their triangle here and Dennis Robin doing a good job usually he runs away from the play not expecting to get passes on the cut there but just at that last split second turn looked and the good thing he did to wind up with that three-point play foul committed by DJ Brown and Dennis Rodman has supplied five of the poles 11 points [Applause] 20:11 planning offer for through the Chicago shooting way off here at the stock 5 for 16 that what is different about Miami here the early going aside from hitting their shots thanks that makes a huge difference that three-point shooting has been such a big factor for Miami to the season and you make some of those outside shot throws the defense out of that enables a good penetrator like Tim Hardaway to get to the basket he has had great crossover move but we have not seen much of it this season and you see al Courtney is - this Miami Heat team in the winds he generally scores big and in the losses we saw very lethargic Tim Hardaway in Game three [Applause] it's a goal time [Applause] everybody on the heat just so much more aggressive because they've seen the ball to win the basket little more and they're seeing Chicago misses some chat so their confidence has risen to a different level but dumped to get my the pressure is off Miami being down on three in Essaouira Scottie Pippen Valley yes the heat coming out very stir it in something we did not see here on Saturday afternoon Miami [Music] hustle rebound court thought he had the shot letter Lonzo morning at an epidemic of turnovers in Game three his first one they're just thinking Leonard we're gonna see what exact at 9:00 on Saturday [Music] well of a history of the NBA playoffs no team has ever come back from an old three deficit to win the series that is the task in Miami Heat we talked about that with past one day it will happen that somebody will come back from oh three in some series and it's happened in every walk of life has happened in every sport has happened in track and field with you know the high jump has happened in the four-minute mile that happens I don't know if it's going to happen for us but it will happen one day and you might as well be the first well that's a coach speak as an answer for that inevitable question and Pat does that very well but he also is quick to say that all he cares about is how his team plays today and focused only in on this game on fifty-one occasions teams have been down oh three and the NBA playoffs only 22 teams have managed to even win one game after traveling three so statistically it's it's not a pretty picture from the Miami Heat the point of view Brian Williams played one of the other days come on for the first time and it's on Dennis Rodman and in my memory of this series that's the first time a three-second violation has been called on Dennis Rodman who is one of the best shooters in all of basketball as far as getting into that we're cheating in a positive way it's good to do that if you can get away with it and force the officials to call it once so while [Applause] seven points by heat up by ten and he also see the mindset of Miami every chance they get they want to go at Dennis Rodman and make him defend no way is Dennis rather the defensive player that he was four five six years ago as a member of the Detroit Pistons he does scramble for those loose balls and rebounds very well that does have trouble with individual dick for Sean letter and Denis Rommel would much prefer to play bigger stronger people inside he does not like to leave the basket area to have to bend his knees and try to defend a guy who can put the ball on the floor as Jamal Mashburn did right there Jordan Michael winning a record length scoring title averaging just under 30 per game another stellar regular-season what's amazingly competitive spirit still going so strong amazing Drive [Applause] his first two points of the game Marv I'm a little surprised that Michael did not come out roaring a little morning I had to take some stuff shots early in the first quarter with the shot clock winding down but realizing that the heat would be fire up the quills might be a little complacent expected Michael to take over early [Applause] and last touched by brown and now that he's showing some signs of being aggressive on the offensive glass Dennis Rodman trying to do it all by himself it's Brian Williams looking to transition Dan Majerle getting set to check in for Miami hopper banks two three-pointer [Applause] it cuts it to a five point Miami Lane [Applause] five Williams well you can satisfy your basketball craving any time of the day or night by logging on to nba.com the official website of the NBA for him dem [Music] media up to the medal scores and stats check nba.com all hoops all the time Alonzo Mourning as you mentioned it pick up the free-throw shooting the other day only 104 from the floor he was 10 of 12 at the line and four for six in Game two 7 for 15 a game 1 but you gotta like what Alonzo Mourning has done so far really lifted his game as his former college coach John Thompson sitting on that left baseline and watching very intently but Alonzo Mourning coming out very aggressive take advantage of the freebies sir has come on for the first time for Chicago Stephen had a bit of a shootings level four five and his twenty two minutes on Saturday scottie pippen calling for the spread floor there where Miami got heated getting hurt the game three was too far the port this time they compress defensively and force the turnover one minute left in this first quarter five-point Miami lead [Music] it was forced into the difficult shot by the defensive play of robbing and wanting to go and Robin but really shouldn't have taken that tourist shot because some defensive Robin was not that good now Pippin when he blows on Marley [Applause] illegal defense call for the first time against Miami so Chicago against the new 24 unsaid Austin has come on an effective stent for mashburn three of four from the field seven points good plate of salmon are there by Scottie Pippen and getting the second-chance opportunity with 20 seconds left in the quarter Scottie should have pulled that back out and waited for the last shot but he was going to the basket looking for a score six turnover by the polls by ab1 just three Miami with turnover problems the other day 32 leading to 36 Bulls points it was close to an NBA playoff record final seconds on the floor [Applause] a football at half-court your forte one cheese collect clocks you said two lanes a little surprise the Bulls didn't even try to foul morning here but keep an eye on these lower right hand part of your screen as Alonzo Mourning has to gather to get himself going and clearly the ball not out of his hands before the end of the quarter so that is the end of the first Alonzo Mourning with a fast start three of four from the field six points if Hardaway leads the way with a quiet start to Michael Jordan just also for just two points you're watching the NBA [Music] you're watching the NBA on NBC the 1997 NBA Playoffs Ahmad Rashad back here in Miami well I'm joined now with the Kimbe matumbo and Patrick Ewing now I would think that you guys both your season's over you'd be somewhere on vacation yeah I'm on vacation unfortunately I'm not playing but I thought of ours though we fell Alonzo needed our help our support so we came out to give them our support came back you are one of you kids that beat the Bulls in the 12th can Miami beat the bull I think all they have to do just to believe themselves that they can do it and just go and try to play hard they can now you know you guys both know Michael Jordan you know that sitting down even when you're sitting you guys are trying to give Alonzo just trying to support him right no Michael is looking at you trying to ruin this old dream you know Michael is real might read a lot but uh you know I feel allows I told Alonzo his hip bug here this t man just have to believe that they can feed them and you know you know they have a good seaman if they believe that it they'll get it done maybe one of these days is three you can play on the same team I don't want to hopper no because you need about three or four basketball enjoy you guys alright back to you mark alright thanks Siobhan so a couple of Georgetown Hoyas routing on Alonzo Mourning hoping that he's able to keep this series [Applause] 26:21 advantage for the second quarter just getting underway Toni Kukoc has come on for the first time Jordan Kerr in the Moroccan very offensive touches with another shot dropping us up front with good coach by Tony Tuco Isaac Austin constable to post up on allotment and well once again Miami taking every opportunity to go in Robin and that's where he generally Dennis Rabbitt is plays his best defense but overpowered that time by Ike Austin they hate 28 and the Bulls 21 her played my heart away ride waves so he's hit two of two from the field and it's Miami by five best execution so far from Chicago's starting out with the spread offense and getting into the triangle good ball movement declared open results for Luke shot [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oh morning now 4 of 6 from the field [Music] his pants broken up well Miami Heat taking a page out of Chicago play with the back pick by voshon lenard and the perfect pass to Alonzo Mourning but shot letter coming up setting the back pick on Brian Williams no talk from Michael Jordan perfect execution 9:57 remaining first half hits the heat by five the NBA on NBC is brought to you by Oldsmobile and your local oats will be retailers by FedEx just what you want just when you want it with FedEx it's the way the world works and by alley all day strong all day long a big reason for the Chicago Bulls getting off to a slow start in the first quarter a lot of perimeter shots keep it on that shot clock up top Michael Jordan keeps winding up with the ball on the shot clock so far the packed in defense of Miami has been effective and look at that Michael Jordan unable to get it going from the field generally what he does in this situation take the ball the basket try to get fouled and as you mentioned early did not look to come out with the barrage he's now hold for six from the field and it will be Miami ball I tried to penetrate that time couldn't turn the corner on the base on I think you have to give a little credit to the shot Leonard who has certainly had his hands full trying to defend Michael Jordan he's getting the best of it so far today twenty-eight [Applause] hustle it down [Applause] and rebound Michael disappointed there first he thought he should have got the ball from Robin in the alley from care and Dennis Rockmond with seven points five rebounds three assists keeping the Bulls in it here in this first time did you mention that he's taken six shots already that's about three games work from Dennis three of six from the field Leonard sets it up [Applause] shot and was able to locate icing Austin they hate Verdi and the Bulls 25 Marv Albert mattress at a mob Rashaad from Miami's the season off the line could be heat down three all the series Chicago a life to rapid and that's a good sign for the Vols old for five the other day in Game three and Kerr cuts it to a three point Miami event the Matty are so conscious of steep curve from downtown they're hugging up on it Steve has to make that adjustment to start moving it and find those little seeds inside the arm football distribution three part attacks [Applause] Jordan putting the move on at his foul Michael Jordan off the hesitation dribble got the step and he's headed to the line now there's a tendency to forget about Dennis Rodman as an offensive threat because he rarely looks at the basket that time no doubt about it he just wanted to catch the ball make the move to the basket as a couple of big guys who have gone again against it as I said where did that come from Michael Jordan as it as lanced eight-team print throws of course the speculation is that on an off day yesterday with a a three zip lead in this series that Michael Jordan being in sunny South Florida was out playing golf that cop is normally not a tiring sport it is for some more if you know when you have to take a lot of whacks at a night right on that time of to myself maybe too much God for Michael Jordan that is always the possibility with a team up for three all come out the optimal on each side a bush [Applause] the point that did not want to go out humiliated at home swept for oh and the heat and certainly come out with much bigger here today it has we discussed earlier it helps to hit the shots in contrast to what took place in Game three on on Saturday but in every phase of the game picked it up Jordan with the strip of lemon who is able to recover lost [Applause] keeps up try to take it one that was just traffic there although I I'd have to see that playing again on the replay reaction I think stripped by Michael Jordan once Michael Jordan is going to get it again and not to loosen and Dennis Rodman did bend over as morning was up in the air and you can see why now that Alonzo Mourning had something to complain about but in all the banging and hitting inside that was not one of the worst by Dennis Rodman no fouls will call only two on the shot clock it is a 24-second violation it has it has roots to point making judgments on the degree of the Hitler Rodman is involved Zenoss did hell hold his ground there but by in bending over while Alonzo Mourning was up in the air he had a place similar like that in Game two when there was a hard fall to the floor Chris Miami is so aware of Dennis Rodman even though they say they are not [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] water played by William [Applause] Miami has led by as many as 11 I'm gonna take advantage here when the balls closing that with in June was trapped oh let it go [Applause] nine points at his tithe that of all the struggling that the Chicago Bulls have done and you look up and we see that it is tight 30 clearly Miami missed a lot of opportunities so far this first half timeout called by Pat Riley 628 stamp the game tied of birdie bonk game three Alonzo Mourning just 1 for 4 from the field coming out alive in his first - hitting this quick jumper no box out text evaded to get inside a Luc Longley and then the fat bit by voshon lenard than the perfect path has the Lonzo morning 4 for 7 from the field 8 points 5 rebounds all of them at the offensive end as alonso picking on just about everybody on chicago and that'll happen when you're aggressive and that's the way he has to be sometime zalando alonso tends to drift offensively and when he does get the ball the post pulls the ball too long he gets a breather right now PJ Brown Isaac Austin to my face burn off his mask [Applause] nine points for Mashburn he leads 32 to 30 prior to that basket the balls for the nineteen eight run they were down by as many as 11 we're halfway through the first full second quarter that comes Hardaway [Music] it's Michael Jordan not shooting well the Chicago Bulls really need a lift from other Scottie Pippen is back on the floor Wow [Applause] Brian Williams picks up his second libido tomorrow the NBA playoffs will move on to primetime with Game five of the Western Conference Finals Charles Barkley of the Houston Rockets taking on Carmelo to the Utah Jazz tomorrow night right here on NBC what a finish yesterday in Johnson with the storybook three-pointer to win it at the buzzer what I don't think I ever saw a shot stay in the air that long of course we've seen it so many times since but definitely a rainbow from Eddie Johnson all down the heat 34 in the bowls 35 20 left in the first half [Music] away [Applause] four of 33 from three-point range in the playoffs [Applause] the 24-second clock running out but Michael is now old for eight from the field [Applause] Miami has had a number of opportunities to answer that lead [Applause] [Music] between 15 incur the heat have had opportunities to pull away they have not been able to despite the fact that the Bulls have not played well they're down by just for a big factor in the first half is Miami had a good run going they had to give Tim part away arrest and then things slowed down and now Alonzo Mourning out of the game so things slowing down again and Pat Riley has to give these players arrest they're tired players they've looked like tired player but he's got to get a bump in the floor for long stretches [Applause] looking fatigue played one of his first happiest 10 that the balls 421 left first half it is Miami Ave 601 up by six points bout Tim Hardaway such a good penetrator turns his back to Ron Harper baked him out twice I don't think he could believe he was that open on the drive [Music] hi everybody had a storm in New York coming up on the prudential halftime report we'll hear from Charles Barkley of the Houston Rockets after yesterday's last-second thriller at the summit his team heads into tomorrow night's Game five of the Western Conference Finals all tied with Utah Jazz at two games of peace no such theatrics thus far in the East where the Bulls have a comfortable 3o lead but Miami leads Chicago right now by six in Game four as we send it back to Marv Albert Matt cookus and Ahmad Rashad Hart Thank You Hannah and the story of this first half - good start by Miami [Applause] those are the missiles and four of those shots have come with the shot clock winding down and this was one of them and hedron's had to launch that thing not even close at all and you can see that discussed on the face of Michael's are he is frustrated primarily with the way that he's played but also with his teammates not getting a better shot opportunity to spend premature but a look at some of the four playoff performances by Michael Jordan we still have much time of remaining we have Casilla turns on a number of occasions he's not going to stop shooting though his luc longley set up by Michaels [Applause] Fortin with 34 points on 14 of 25 from the field here on Saturday as a follow-up to the other poor game in game 2 4 of 15 but he did his damage at the fair line particularly in the fourth quarter and we're seeing that rare slumping body language from [Applause] 39 Verdi thanking hopefully they've led by as buddy [Music] Chicago was over a time she's to listen by wide margins no legs on that last jump shot Hardaway [Music] [Applause] on answer points for the heat [Applause] Oh Nagai looking for a charging foul and Ron Harper was there waiting for a long time he was shocked eating at the clock three minutes [Music] Jordan played by Marley [Applause] author for three but an Austin hit the floor well as I said earlier Ron Harper not wanting to take any credit for the slipping Tim Hardaway's saying all of his problems are his own not being aggressive offensively well today he has turned to time with feet very aggressive little the next possession Dennis Rodman an offensive rebound in his head does not get it leading to this plane for Hardaway nice little pick in transition to shake loose from Ron Harper for that open jump shot by Isaac Austin during the cheers as he sits down the Bulls have not scored the last three minutes and 20 seconds trimming out my 11 was rejected by morning [Applause] for a travel it's on morning his first [Applause] Alonzo Mourning obviously not happy with that call luc longley getting himself in all kinds of trouble away from the basket putting the ball on the floor putting up a very poor percentage shot and a worse foul by Alonzo Mourning just his first cut Alonzo can pick them up with dusters [Music] during the regular season a 79% free-throw shooter it has and the boson there to keep players Scottie Pippen Michael Jordan had the same look on their faces that all to Miami he had in Game three by 10:00 [Applause] Tim Hardaway from way downtown with we've seen some of those comes up short they can Oh [Music] just under two minutes to go of a hand [Applause] [Music] [Applause] let's go he three [Music] [Applause] such time [Applause] to go [Applause] oops barking at each other and you wonder why Phil Jackson not taking the time out he's already taking a couple in this first half but in situations like this when the team is totally out of it as a group he tries to let them figure it out for themselves to pick battle right now as I see keep it alive [Applause] put the move on HIPPA that is family trucked off one of the officials from was a late whistle [Applause] call for the foul his second on the outside official Bob Delaney was about to he thought a walking violation was going to be called a baseline official told 40 at the foul [Applause] well last the Sunday in Game seven against New York we saw Tim Hardaway have an unbelievable third quarter scoring 18 points he's got 18 in his first half still not looking as quick as he normally is but still able to shake loose and get shots as the Bulls look very slow the little pump fake pass Tim Hardaway as Ron Harper has been so far away from him and Ron Harper generally has success against a smaller player like Hardaway he has to give some ground because of the quickness factor but the long arms usually fathers it's not bothering him Hardaway today and they are the wins in the playoffs Tim Hardaway almost 22 a game and the good three-point shooting percentage and then you see what happens in the losses when Tim Hardaway can't find the basket and Miami I'm Ivette Steph a 71 run the game was tied at 36 then they have outscored Chicago 17 to 1 and the call against the Heat offensive foul 442 PT Brown have seen Michael Jordan shoot old 4:11 just extraordinary but not only has he been off way off I can't recall a shot that close but no legs he had one to drive to the basket that shot got blocked is just a very heavy legged not getting up on the jump shot no life in his legs which is in game three which is why he was so stroked so quick off the dribble to come to that quick stop get up in the air and shoot even before some of those shots pick a challenging path the other factor Miami has turned it over only five times foul on Keith askins who only five for a five turnovers as opposed to the 32 just four shy of an NBA playoff record on Saturday that the one filed the he had to give well the Anderson is not with the heat today as that [Applause] that's turnover number nine submitted by Chicago ten seconds in the half putting phones on curve fires the three biscuits and Jordan just intent and keeping it away [Applause] Jordan Hardaway tourniquet on his 18 points in this first half [Music] what a finish yesterday Eddie Johnson's buzzer beater lifted Houston to victory tying the series now it's back to Utah for pivotal Game five Berkeley in the rockets Malone in the jazz the NBA Conference Finals go primetime two zf9 on NBC this is the Prudential halftime report brought to you by Prudential bringing strength and stability to America's families who insurance healthcare real estate and financial services halftime of Game four in Miami with a heat all over the Bulls thus far 47 to 31 Michael Jordan Oh for 11 in the first half Tim Hardaway finally got it working for Miami he's got 18 points hi everybody Hannah Storm along with the usual cast of characters Julius Erving Peter Vesey and Mike fratello they got some definite thoughts on the first half and we're gonna get those in just a few moments but first tomorrow in Salt Lake City the Western Conference Finals continue with Game five the Rockets and the Jazz all tied up at two games apiece after yesterday's thrilling win for Houston after the game Jim Gray spoke with the Rockets Charles Barkley can you recall that's exciting a finish is an important of shot SAV Johnson hit yesterday no I mean it was just one of those unbelievable things you just have to be there and the ball is there so long when it went through it was just the most amazing feeling for me and my team and the crowd was going crazy and now we've got to feed on that [Applause] it's not Berkeley over who fell into Stockton late in the game he took a foul from Carl and what happened was something happened the other end I knew he was mad so I said something too into making me matter and I knew running down the floor he was gonna hit me or come close to hitting me Showtime he got close enough for me to breathe I just flopped and he called it cuz I knew cuz I you know men Carl were roommates in 1982 we spent a summer together he's one of my best friends but I know how to ride it I was leaning sideways before he even hit me so it was easy sometimes we don't play with a sense of urgency it's probable thing that disappoints me about our team and it kind of lackadaisical at times and he don't feel that since the urgency that I feel you had implored your teammates before the game in the national press and on NBC to play with a sense of urgency I was disappointed the way that came out I was asked a question by the different tween us in Utah Utah is playing you know like it's a life or death thing and we have to match that because they are terrific team yeah we want to win but how bad do you want to win it's the question you know this is to me is a big deal I want to get to the finals I need to get to the finals now I want to win the championship and if I just want a sense of urgency [Music] do you feel as though realistically that this opportunity right now represents your last chance yeah I do because number one it's a young person game number one so the young teams are they're pretty good the Lakers Minnesota Seattle but also as an older team you lose something more every year you know me Clyde and dreaming we got to play together five years ago nobody could beat us but now we're just good players who used to be great players and next year if we play will be less of great players you have played these playoffs with such joy are you the only one in this league who seems that fun I understand that his goal is finding that's going to end soon for me well does this year or next year is going to end and I understand that man I've had the best life ever I've had the best life ever I believe every kid's dream and now that it's slipping away I'm not I'm not upset I'm not disappointed but I won't enjoy and leave like saying I had the best life in the world when we return more on the rockets and the jazz as we hear from our trio in Salt Lake City and our trio here in the studio we'll talk about that interesting first half in Miami but first a message from Prudential and a word from the NBA [Music] welcome back and let's continue with that riveting series out west the jazz and the Rockets tied at two games apiece here's Greg Gumbel Steve Jones and Bill Walton all right greetings from Salt Lake City everyone as we all prepare for Game five tomorrow night between the Jazz and the Houston Rockets one thing we know for sure Steve Jones the Jazz are happy to be home no they are they had the second best home court record in the NBA and they feel good about it they've only lost two in a row at home since January it ain't gonna happen this has become a home court series Carmona's assured us we work all year long to get this they're going to the NBA championships the focus of this series has now become calm Malone vs. Charles Barkley we saw Berkeley in the two houston victories come out and take charge in a leadership role we talked to Karl Malone earlier today and he wants to do very much the same thing now that his team is back in Utah obviously I haven't played the kind of basketball I have to play and Charles have a lot more luxury than I have playing with some guys he got that he got to play with but that's part of it I'm due due for one throughout the playoff like I said even though we've won in the playoffs thus far I haven't had the kind of game or games I want games not just one game but obviously you take one at a time and and I haven't had that yet so I'm looking forward to tomorrow that's all fine for Karl Malone but for the Houston Rockets it's not about numbers it's not about strategies this is all about taking a wildest crowd in the NBA out of the game this is about turning those cheers into boos this is about being in the zone this is about spending 48 hours dreaming about your jumper going down and getting every single rebound but it's also about making the effort and commitment to develop the confidence to break the spirit of Karl Malone's when you walk out there for the opening tap you look in Carl's eyes and he's the one who's gonna quit Greg the Houston Rockets are gonna have to play the absolute game of their life tomorrow night all right bill and for us the challenge is all about getting Bill Walton down to Planet Earth in time for the tip-off tomorrow and I will see you then Hannah thanks Greg big challenge Game five in Utah is tomorrow night nine o'clock Eastern is the tip-off now let's get back to this game in Miami the heater leading the Bulls 47 to three one one of the few people who's not surprised about that as dr. J told us before the game hey they would see desperation on the part of Miami it's tough to close out a series like this it is tough the desperation has turned to desire and it looks like the fear that Miami was supposed to show has turned into focus the big three for Miami has clearly stepped up here Alonzo Mourning's all-around play Tim Hardaway has found his stroke and we got to give some serious props to Jamal Mashburn here I mean he has that look like no matter who's God me Pippen Rodman whatever I'm going to use my all-around skills I'm going to get to the hoop I want to take good shots and I'm gonna be a factor in this game the the key for Miami is that third star showing up in S Jamal Mashburn so far a non-factor in this game Michael Jordan what's happened to Michael can you believe it Oh 411 this guy either he is still mourning the fact that Tiger Woods fell apart in the colonial or the Bulls made a terrible tactical error of scheduling the pregame warmup today before the game at Greg Norman's house what if he was four for 15 in Game two and in order for him to get to 415 Jordan is gonna have to hit his first four shots of the third quarter and if I'm Alonzo Mourning I'm second-guessing myself right now why didn't I guarantee victories in 1 2 & 3 yeah obviously it was that simple right there and guarantee a win and here they are obviously that's not true Mike so what's Miami done to play their best half really since the first half of the series statistically what jump savage' is first of all the starting backcourt 24-6 in favor of Miami against the bull backcourt secondly they had 32 turnovers last game Miami now only five in the first half well let's go back quickly the games 1 and 2 they lead by 16 points Miami in game 1 but miss 15 out of 30 free throws game 2 it's a one-point game 59 58 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter but they shoot only three for 26 so they knew they could get at them they had played in that close they go home for Game three and what happens and many times when you go home all the distractions affect the home team much more than the road team they were affected by the distractions that got their focus back today wow you look at the 31 points that Chicago has scored this is their lowest first-half score of the season it is half-time in Miami and the heater leading the Bulls by 16 we'll send it back for the second half right after these messages from your local station this has been the Prudential halftime report brought to you by Prudential bringing strength and stability to America's families through insurance health care real estate and financial services welcome back to Miami where the heat finished up with a 17 1 run and lead by 16 as we head to the second half all for 11 in the first half for Michael Jordan as we take a look at the half times that the bullets Adelie missed their last eight shots did not have a field goal the last six and a half minutes 10 of 26 from two-point range 2 of 10 from three-point land and just a total of 31 points they shot 33% from the field not a red dot to be found as Michael Jordan has had to take a lot of those three-point shots with the shot clock winding down which does not make it any easier when you're struggling as he is and Miami shot 42 percent overall 13 of 29 from two-point range 6 of 16 which is an improvement the way they have been going from three-point land in the series and Tim Hardaway four out of nine from downtown so much apart of Miami's attack the heat up by 16 47:31 [Music] Ahmad Rashad back in Miami now I talk with Tim Hardaway and asking what Pat Riley had said during halftime I said Pat did not say much of anything at all just totally keep doing what they're doing now in the other locker room Phil Jackson told his team that they have got to play tougher and while Michael Jordan is struggling Scottie Pippen is gonna have to come out strong so look for him to take it away in the second half about on the subject of the struggles of that man Michael Jordan for the old 411 he has had scoreless hands before were still trying to check out what the worst terms of field goal percentage the three points against the Sean Leonard as you saw the the breakdown with by virtue of free throws and the playoffs two players have had old four four teams back in 1948 shuttin Reiser with the Baltimore moments and Dennis Johnson 78 [Applause] to what Michael Jordan is going through he a no 417 that's the worst for an NBA regular season so morning for the family and sim Hardaway is quick to point out then in that ball game he had 14 assists and his team at that time the Golden State Warriors won that game they beat San Antonio ladies a separ of of 91 when Hardaway was forward 417 well Dennis Robin and he PJ Brown again the fountain Brown his third Dennis Rodman initiates all that contact he flails with those arms very well and picking up for the lack of scoring from Michael Jordan Dennis Robin four for seven from the field one for one from the line for nine points to this point Dennis Rodman making good on his guarantee of no technical fouls being picked up about today stuff it down we're looking for the Chicago Bulls as bad as the Chicago Bulls in execution and for Judea you have to give some of the credit to Miami Heat a lot of the credit it's really the Bulls defense that can get them back into this game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's the way Alonzo Mourning's started this game catch and shoot or catch and make your play and not hold the ball when he does that first of all he's not going to turn the ball over and he's getting good shots [Applause] 4:14 for short with the scheme [Applause] while Michael aimed those last two and that's why they came a 1/2 short armor then trying to aim that second one shot too low comes up with it oh shoot [Applause] fourteen of forty thirty two percent [Applause] whose guarantee no tentacles remember morning guarantee Chicago ball Alonzo Mourning can't get a handle on it which has been his problem sometimes where the purpose is not the round set of making sure he catches the ball first bulls have hit on a one of their last 12 shots [Music] I suppose a long way with a stuff a moment ago and then able to go to the drop seven points for long-play 5135 check the light box round [Applause] the look on the faces of the Chicago bench in particular coaching staff as five bred shirts after standing still [Applause] water propriety [Applause] here [Music] [Applause] the NBA on NBC is brought to you by Bud Light if you want great tapes that won't fill you up and never let you down make it a Bud Light by Acura the true definition of luxury yours and by the owners managers and crews who proudly call the McDonald's in your neighborhood my McDonald's [Applause] all that last sequence Michael Jordan apparently be a heap be on the team our way [Applause] this went to Butler three pointer of this reason why after they turn over Michael Jordan not even it has been a long this afternoon for Michael Jordan's old former team just three points all three shortened able to slice well a much better idea for Michael no keep going to the basket tried to draw files he's got to get into the story columns to give the Bulls a chance but so far nothing Miami's defense converging in that Lane making those shots tough 21 point Miami lay that's their biggest touched by morning I was able to save it yes Michael's talking to himself missed his first 14 and now has his first field goal and oddly enough it went in but it was the first shot lead in his head that looked good as well that happens several of the early going where he had a fortune down so he got he usually has a very fine percentage and converted in family got his ball 12 out for poor job [Applause] prashant let have able to stop the dribble [Applause] these are the kinds of moves that Michael Jordan was making in Game three Rome's sharp very definitive heart dribble get up in the air shoot the ball at the top of his jump most of the shots that he missed in the first half he was shooting on the way down the innovative because he wasn't getting that high in the air because his legs look so heavy and a 20-second timeout Kony Pippen was alright but Dennis Rodman coming over to check out Pippen who was on in pain whoa my good Scottie Pippen with he's not on the head on the hard foul by Alonzo Mourning Alonzo Mourning staying out of foul trouble in the first half only with one now with two the pump fake gets morning in the air and then warning coming down hard for the heart foul making sure coming and trying to come across the arms to prevent Pippen from getting that shot off at a possible three-point play but he certainly nicked him with that right elbow on the left forehead and the Bulls were asking white out of flagrant foul that is Robin continuing the discussion with the Bob Delaney looks at that knots and I can see why the Chicago Bulls would wanted to take his time out of a 20-second timeout to get something like that looked at and it probably needs to get ice on it very quickly at scottie pippen very calmly hits on the first free throw eight points for Pittman [Applause] 56:39 7:25 remaining third quarter goodness [Music] of his best of seven Eastern Conference final I'm hoping provided turnaround I'd love to just swing and go home 4:17 Mashburn [Applause] complete turnaround from Game three as Chicago the team having the problems with the offense having the problems with the turnovers and Miami converting after every one of the missiles was able to haul it down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and Michael Jordan with only a second field goal out two of 18 [Applause] almost as if Chicago Bulls coming in this game we said earlier that to be an emotional onslaught by Miami earlier but the way that Miami played in game drinks it's obvious that the Chicago Bulls just didn't stick Miami had anything left will they do [Applause] shot clock down PJ Brown looking to a draw McCall but he knocked it out about five and a half to go in the third quarter the heat 59 of the bowls 41 Phil Jackson up off the bench to call the spread offense if the Bulls can't get some penetration some cutting or fire [Applause] apparently problem with the 24-second clock that three pointed it grazed the rim so the bowls should get the new 24 [Applause] ha boat Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan taking the ball to basket it out the opportunity with that the exception of that last three-point attempt by Scottie Pippen but Scotty did have a reputation as a gun [Applause] but Jeff Hardaway it is his first foul [Applause] and Miami with a third team foul Brian Williams with Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen on the front line and the crowd watching for a technical foul for the by 16 [Music] now the Chicago becoming a pet while scottie pippen he did a lot of posting up in Game three with a great deal effective Dennis Rodman coming in and hanging on the rib ever so slightly jumping on the back of Alonzo Mourning and catching him on the back of the head [Applause] it's on mash bars Ashburn had some words with Jordan but you see a totally different look of the Miami Heat Mashburn right in the face of Ron Harper and now technicals [Applause] Walter Mashburn got involved Michael Jordan then had something to say to Ron Harper he's been hit with a technical [Applause] right after that last play tamam Ashburn and Michael Jordan having some words Mashburn doing most of the talking and then Mashburn going over to Ron Harper he had some more to say to hit him and that's what earned him the technical foul was showing some signs here they've done about the defensive end [Applause] 11 the 21-point lead to 14 Reilly has taken a 20-second timeout Chicago with a gin three-run to cut it to 14 game for the best of seven Eastern Conference battle gave one the Bulls won at not thirty 8477 twenty thirty seven points and nine rebounds second-chance points [Music] on the ugly side 75-68 Chicago pimping with 23 points and seven rebounds from three-point range Michael you're noting 4:15 and the Bulls exploded here Saturday in Game three look at the stat line morning one of four nine turnovers [Music] break out with a 34-point Games winning 14 of 25 reveal polish Chicago Bulls in their championship years of 91 92 and 93 famous for their third quarter defensive outburst suppressant play has really helped to turn things here on the 3rd he'll get the tie up my hand PJ bride scrambling on the floor and things getting a bit testy now Dennis Rodman playfully playing with the officials a different mindset by Dennis Rodman today more offensive minded and no technical as of yet [Applause] hopper stepping away to gather himself as he goes against PJ [Applause] you can see the wind zero horrendous game for Chicago coming into this third quarter sixth Miami turnover in this third quarter hinder they protected the ball so well in the first half [Applause] Jordan putting rules 11 here's the family [Applause] although the shots Miami ball plus the mindset is to get into the lane try to get into the basket try to draw some fancy was cut off nicely that time by the shot letter but in so doing in that black will open for the jump shot he is now 2 of 19 from the field protected the ball and here come the balls Tippett pulls it up [Applause] last touch [Applause] protector of my stacked or [Applause] this game is almost taking on schoolyard proportions with Chicago Bulls Miami's slow getting back in transition defense and Michael Jordan thought he had an advantage which he did against Leonard beat him to the basket that Alonzo Mourning who does that so well coming over to help out knock that shot away Dan Majerle has come on for PJ Brown polls have missed their last six shots the heat of this [Music] once you get a hostess fulfill your faces here at Miami all right the head shows to the Miami Dolphins frequent visitor here to watch kill the heat the target of the Smashing Pumpkins now a raven flies [Applause] with Dennis Rodman obviously Dennis looking for the next action movie we talked earlier about the big three well they have not done it today Lisa Jordan and Pippen have been way off Rodman surprised with 11 points Michael Jordan old for 11 in the first half let's check in with Ahmad all right thanks Marvin the shooting difficulties of Michael Jordan a lot of people think well he must have went out and played golf all day long yesterday and therefore being a little bit tired but he didn't he had one round of golf and as you and I very well know that can't be that tiring well you probably get tired because you swing a lot he did play golf but it certainly won't excuse won't be that he played too much golf mark [Applause] able to slam it down and the Bulls are very much alive despite the problems they've had they're down by only 12 with 240 remaining in the third quarter Miami is led by hideous one points they were up 56 the 35 [Applause] [Music] the defense force in Congo has picked up and that shot surely challenged by Scottie Pippen as at Mashburn had a launching iovers outstretched arm [Applause] Kalihi and as their fourth team foul on Leonard his second another a trend is starting to settle in here in the second half Miami with only five turnovers in the first half have kicked it away seven times in this third quarter jug bushland has checked in for the first time bushland with Williams books were fresh off the bench he's been hitting the three party folks next big pressing a button knowing he's going to get some defensive efforts of live Amex from Jeb Bush if you expect the three right off the back [Applause] Tim Hardaway a native of Chicago particularly disappointed with his performances in the three earlier games because a lot of friends and family back in Chicago and he has heard from them but he's picked it up here today with 18 points draws the foul so Michael to the line with a minute and 38 remaining in this third quarter next Saturday NBC Sports we'll take you to the red clay of Roland Garros stadium for the French Open Grand Slam tennis got a next Saturday Houston right here Bob you mentioned Tim Hardaway with 18 points all of them coming in the first half he has only taken one shot in this third quarter a three and he's missed it [Applause] 61 and the Bulls 52 [Applause] by Harper here's the SS Harper comes over shot clock [Applause] forced into a difficult job Shepard pulls up if I shut equipment and certainly it is the heat getting themselves in trouble but you say did in Game three throwing the ball into post standing around Chicago defense picking it up [Applause] with each other last touched by gut buh-ba-ba-bah Chicago has outscored Miami 20 to 5 to get back into it they were down at the half by 16 they trailed by as many as 21 here's Alonzo Mourning's three times replacing Jamal Mashburn it was effective earlier but lays with 14 points [Music] [Applause] you can see the difference in the attitude of the balls [Applause] Harper zone wasn't cool [Applause] ever [Applause] and Jordan pulls it back as the bull set it up with the money sit against the banning Jordan same love shot they wanted to make sure my look like Michael had some transition their been playing the percentage right now [Applause] there's the second differential between the game clock on the shot clock have adopted [Music] the balls 57 despite the extraordinary juleps 21 shooting by Michael Jordan we'll be back after these words [Music] this copyrighted telecast of the National Basketball Association may not be retransmitted reproduced or rebroadcast without the express written consent of the NBA while the Bulls are back in it but Michael Jordan struggles continued from the field to 422 miss handles the ball has this one jet go off the rim on just like other players on other levels the look of frustration on Michaels maybe there's Michaels the numbers are shopton game 314 425 and the Blues have overtaken the wrist here in Game four just 2 for 22 Michael Jordan attempting 11 stops in the third quarter nine points today five of seven at the foul line but the polls are Whitman cool as this fourth quarter get started [Applause] now 63-57 Miami hoping to extend to a fifth game which will take place in Chicago Wednesday the fools seeking to wrap it in for here the same Jenelle Jordan yes easily the most fluid shots that he has been able to get off here today and Michael has used so much energy and when you're missing shots at that kind of clip it's got to be even tougher poor slur three poles going has been instrumental in Chicago comeback defensive play three steals two Rovers and the Purdue Pharma is on to Jordan able upset [Applause] have to be separated suicide by butcher it's as if teammates on both teams are just looking to keep their guy out of the attic room for anything technical - loose ball foul [Music] [Applause] well it's always a wrestling match on the boards especially when Dennis Rodman is trying to get position trying to rout morning out of that position and in the takedown and then the feet get involved as they start pushing win defeat ins and then judge Buller as if he was on a snowboard right out of there Dennis Rodman with us second gone by in the fourth quarter the heat up 63 59 and Robin they're hearing it from the crowd Genesis played exceptionally well here this afternoon remaining on the floor with fuller Williams up to rest first check back in [Music] [Applause] both teams however marks showing a tendency to play a lot of one-on-one basketball knotted up ball it's people standing around [Music] [Applause] [Music] Chicago able to take them off the dribble and then slow transition defense by Chicago Mike often getting out there and Brian Williams making the mistake not committing to hard foul Miller Genuine Draft presents a classic moment of the NBA at 50 today we look at a classic coaching Bulls head coach Phil Jackson and Pat Riley of the Miami Heat now the last time they better the conference final five John Smith could not convert from under the hoop as the Bulls took assuming the balls in it the flatterfit games [Applause] while the Bulls have cut the lead down a floor was 6157 it was 63 59 but a strong response from Miami they're up now by 8 as Isaac Austin goes to the line and Phil Jackson taking a bit of a gambling it was Steve Kerr in the game he'll be matched up against Hardaway that's a Sun cover for Steve but while Michael Jordan gets a bit of a breather Phil needs an offensive threat out on the floor Kirk provides that play by Mashburn Paul file [Applause] saw the balls 3500 for Brian way talking about the shooting difficulties of Michael Jordan who was three at 24 Scottie Pippen has been off five for 14 and getting nothing from Toni Kukoc who only played eight minutes in the first half both for one from the field Marvy brought a split his way through them tomorrow [Applause] a total of a structure [Applause] they get the new 24 changed his mind morning [Applause] took the shot from Alonzo Mourning in a little earlier Scottie Pippen gun is in the same spot on the head for board and so Alonzo throwing those arms around and Brian Williams will go to the line but the lastest sequence for the Miami he much better the ball crisper passes sharper cuts and everything looks better offensively us Alonzo Mourning with that little jump hook getting that left arm out in the seven wins and Alonzo Mourning with the 21 and 10 and the block shots and in the losses it to general problems for Alonzo Mourning are at the turnovers and the missed free throws Michael Jordan brian williams who saw season signing are late with Chicago shot 73% at the line look at those numbers five of 14 for Pippen Dennis Rodman the surprise [Applause] gรถransson michael jordan old 411 in the first 3 for 24 only 11 again a loose ball foul [Applause] it's all rotten letters [Applause] Dennis Rodman guaranteed he would not pick up a technical foul once again getting all tangled up with Alonzo Mourning evidently the officials thinking he pushed Morty which he certainly grabbed him before that but just the customary clap [Applause] on the call but that's really not done yet to get that technical boils now have four team fouls [Applause] sixty [Applause] women changed his mind [Music] [Applause] let's keep an eye on the benches nobody and we'll have to see how the officials call this obviously be at least a double tactical they did get into it well this this was brewing obviously the only question will there be ejections about mourning and fragment well just about every trip down the floor making all kinds of contact arms flailing legs moving battling for position but a good job by both coaching stands to keep the respective benches in tow and behind that line nobody wanting any suspensions at this point morning and Robin continued [Applause] Clark by their teammates the officials now discussing it so much for Dennis Robbin not picking up at least one technical foul here and of course he continues to taunt and look at Alonzo Mourning trying to get him to react and his might be thinking I may be going here I want to make sure I take the Lonzo with me [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Stud know official ward [Applause] each Junction [Applause] as Robin be checked away by Michael Jordan [Applause] a technical on each player double technical [Applause] no objection so once again morning getting pushed away Dennis Rodman and then coming in with that elbow first and Alonso has been throwing the elbows around and again caught Robin with that right elbow on the side of the head he's already got hit twice and Robin realized exactly what was going on who tried to tie off and did and the takedown on morning [Applause] and you can see in the midst of all the by play had Denis Robin continued the taunting and was trying to get Alonzo Mourning involved in its striking back in some fashion to pick up a second technical which would have bent the ejection I think both players fortunate they were not ejected Hoss and you know the officials will really keep an eye on robbing away they're not flirting each other right now [Applause] just 34% for the game we're gonna pick up fouls now yes [Applause] 7260 to Miami [Applause] [Music] trying to give them the impression that [Applause] it turns out to be a good valve for the Chicago Bulls because Rodman clearly feetand on the good pass by Jamal Mashburn - I constantly would have had that easy lad now he has to go to the line and try to earn them there and the Bulls are over the foul limit number five Miami with just one [Applause] Isaac Austin three or four and the line [Applause] 73-62 the Bulls 21 they took for [Applause] Isaac Austin able to protect the ball Michael Jordan for 426 no question one of his worst performances of all times although still seven minutes remaining [Applause] and rocket with the rebound [Applause] seven could not walk in the shop Jordan double-team [Applause] brought down to six [Applause] excellent defense Jordan wanted it early when he had Tim Hardaway in the post position but it took the bull so long to the ball and the double-team got it out of his hands [Applause] crossover off the good pick from Dennis Rodman 73 64 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] those quarters again [Applause] for seven point lead timeout taken by Miami five six showing some signs the NBA on NBC is brought to you by Reebok helping athletes perform at the top of their game by the new 1998 Ford Escort zx2 grab life by the wheel and by Miller Genuine drag to remind you it's time for a good ol macrobrewery I've been a struggle for Michael Jordan all day long 6 for 28 from the field but starting to get the rhythm now just beating Dan Majerle getting up in the air knifing between two defenders to put up the jumper and then Brian Williams setting the screen nobody's showing up to help out Tim Hardaway while the rats are starting to creep back with the blue still with an over six to 28 Miami coming into this fourth game averaging 73 points in the series as 73 right now and the seven-point lead and Michael Jordan from E to the polls nine points in the sport where he's hit 4 of 6 from the field grunting Alonzo Mourning and a foul is called that's number five is on Williams the bowls already over the foul limit later tomorrow the NBA playoffs will move to primetime game five of the Western Conference Finals Charles Barkley and the Rockets going up against Carr Malone of the Utah Jazz and if a game five is necessary you can join us in primetime nine o'clock Eastern on Wednesday the Eastern Conference Finals will continue if Miami can hold on to beat the Bulls here this afternoon that would be a game five Wednesday at 9:00 Eastern Time right here on NBC so Jackson losing confidence as he staff morning has missed all four free throws that he's taken Luke lowly only played three minutes in this second half Toni Kukoc not playing at all [Music] [Applause] Mashburn Anna's number five only the second team foul a non-shooting affair and the balls get the new 24 a late wake-up call for Chicago target in the third quarter did it decrease of let's get back into it back into it amazing as Michael look so slow in the first half of this game no length all of a sudden has she reached down somewhere to get this kind of blueprint and energy up the labor law five minutes [Applause] terrific defensive play by Dennis Rodman tightrope walking along that baseline and making sure that he caught the ball and stayed inbounds not even really looking to the official but just getting up and giving the 20-second timeout and prior to that on the last possession Michael roaming the baseline the pump fake - Leonard up in the air for another jumper Rodman trying to call for the 20 they did not have a 20 left it's a full timeout [Music] [Applause] Jan of Chicago's points [Applause] [Music] 18-point first half but only two points in the second half and with Michael warming up you would expect him to get the shooting opportunity on that possession seeing Pat Riley has talked about double teaming Michael four possessions below the free throw line extended teams have three timeouts remaining five five for thirty five to go and before [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the foul was called on letter [Music] shooting foul from Miami their third team signs that advantage heat coming out of that last timeout the Bulls coming with really no imagination they're disassembling from jump shot even though Michael Jordan has the hot hand after all day long being so cold anything inside are going to the baskets of possible and then Mashburn when a defensive breakdown gets the wide open three excellent performance by Dennis Robin Chuck push ler is back-breaking seen placing Rhonda [Music] mash for medicine 6 a lots of morning was saying no it's on me beside me because has only two fouls the flash goes well throughout Alonzo Mourning's career the shoe has been on the other foot he's the one used in foul trouble he only has two in this one Micah Alonzo Mourning and begging for the coal realizing that max burned a key figure for the Miami Heat right now saw the game for Mashburn able to turn it from the five points in 26 minutes in game 3 7 12 shooting for his 17 Michael George just five of seven etheline but we are starting to see the double-team come as soon as Michael breaks that free throw line extended on the wing one in each of the possession a player has come over to start to double-team him to get the ball out of his hands with the theory being if we're going to lose let's not be somebody else besides Michael Jordan back jocke porcelain [Applause] Sixpoint by a melee as we come up on four minutes to go in the fourth quarter some pressure being shown by the balls [Applause] five personal files ever come up with the block looking for some space picked up on a stretcher [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Williams played with five personal files holding his ground inside keeping his feet not leaving too soon keeping that are not quite straight up but enough to block that Marley shot and then Michael Jordan dropping the head reading the feet to any kind of double-team getting up in the air [Music] so the Miami lead is four and they're forced to take a timeout we will win on Monday [Music] desperation by very good throughout the first half [Applause] another turnover the heat leaders now for in this fourth quarter that's turnover number 15 by Miami Oh George is looking down and his score nerd and Jordan court a moons trip top the contention of the maybe he was that it was good vertically tripped up Michael Jordan but letter picks up his fourth my hair said Michael Jordan getting that pick and watch the left foot and they are right it was Dennis Rodman's foot that Michael Jordan tripped over the foul called on voshon lenard the heat in the short back to the line manger great for the balls [Applause] but the quick whistle and it was actually teammate Dennis Rodman who made contact with Michael Jordan still trying to get into the ear and the head so morning is Dennis Rodman Miami lead is down to two [Applause] Geordi [Applause] Scottie Beckett had the right it was an isolation for hardware I tried to shoot him to get off the ball right away wisely kept his dribble and again Jordan to the line Navarro's technical foul Joe Forte had the whistle in his mouth ready to call him if this was not playoff basketball family especially would have gotten a technical foul no way of knowing exactly what he said so for today's show a lot of restraint well Michael Jordan has scored the last 15 points for Chicago and his attention earlier what's amazing because it appeared he had no legs earlier but he was able to regroup and somehow find the strength to turn it on here 76 a three point deeply Jordan eyes for Michael Jordan [Applause] drop down to sex Hardaway [Applause] to work he has scored 20 of both points [Music] Georgie every is just one while we talked about the body language of Michael Jordan in the first half was not good now you just see if dropping is in using that high pick from Dennis Rodman on the reset hanging in the air fading back and Dennis Rodman newly freed on Michael Jordan but knew that Michael hadn't taken up shot and he'll take it 7 for 10 for Michael Jordan in this fourth quarter Michael Jordan with 20 of the bowls 21 points including the last 18 to 15 remaining and before here's the pleasure by Chicago [Applause] one-point Miami lead [Applause] Harper pulled it back [Applause] swings [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that's the ball Alonzo Mourning Dilma line he has down over for foul on Rodman his fifth well on the previous possession Tim Hardaway unable to get the ball good denial by Ron Harper and that was the time that Anwar lead rope took the shot enjoy no fault and then on this pick and roll to Alonzo Mourning Dennis Rodman was there and I thought in plenty of time but burned his body away the foul is called against Oh Miami with a two-point lead fifteen points 14 rebounds for morning 3 [Applause] I met at 20 [Applause] disposition with one minute one fancam a three-point lead [Applause] no sex [Applause] [Music] [Applause] what to us was been walking 20 [Applause] Alonzo Mourning when he went to the line earlier in the game missing the first four but making two crucial ones their former coach happiness John Lennon an excellent free-throw shooter 82% of the line so Alonzo Mourning who's had as difficult as that the line hit to a moment ago and now Leonard in a clutch situation [Music] and a word from your local station [Music] Miami Heat point lead 44 for 10 seconds bring the furries to a pizza odd Western Game five before the holes of a heat [Music] right here we'll be a fifth game tomorrow the West prime time tomorrow night the Western Conference of finals between Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz nine o'clock Eastern Time if you see what the [Applause] it has Brian Williams coming into a freak Miami lead and the heat take a timeout with 36 10 seconds to go well the previous possession before the timeout it was a tentative one for the Chicago Bulls as the Miami defense was scrambling off the ball out of the hands of Michael Jordan dispossession everybody launching trees Rodman taking one Harper making one but the relentless effort by Dennis Robinson stay with it and knock it down to pull Chicago within three with 30 1.6 seconds left with quarters he has just taken its final timeout Chicago with two it will be Miami ball when we resume and you can see John rowdy another point guard getting his jacket off it's a lineup that dapat Riley with lights that has used quite a bit this year with two point guard John Roddy and Tim Hardaway but it's not a very comfortable lineup against the Chicago Bulls to close up their size as a backdoor foot on this particular possession with the Bulls scrambling on defense Pat Riley wants to get good ball handlers out on the floor and good foul shooters look at the three-point shooting run down for the Chicago Bulls not have the touch obviously 1952 of nine Michael Jordan old four six one four seven Iran hopper Bulls at what point we're down by 21 and appeared by having was on its way away oh boy 4:11 so the 270 left the Bulls did close to 70 970 and the defensive pressure their honor on defensive play got them back into it in the third quarter [Music] Alonzo Mourning receiving support today from his to Georgetown Hoya Foust Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo and Patrick waiting in the tunnel take take in these final seconds when you're a good defensive team like the Chicago Bulls in 31 seconds to go you would like to rely on that defense to get the stop but I would think that they are they the Bulls are under instructions if the lungs Oh morning touches the ball to fallible Marley will put it in play remember the heat no [Music] ready Brown excellent defensive player has come on for Chicago max with John Crotty Molly gets it in [Applause] for Michael Jordan ten seconds [Applause] substitution by Pat Rawlings coming out of the last time out John trotty sitting on the bench hold the second half showing a lot of poise under some defensive pressure got the penetration and the kick to Alonzo Mourning and that puts a little hop into step of karate has the Bozeman Dennis Rodman with five personal fouls but it really wouldn't have mattered in that situation not getting the opportunity to foul morning Hardaway at the line for the first time excellent free-throw shooter 80% during the season and put some time on the clock 11 for 10 seconds to go Sixpoint Miami land [Applause] [Applause] this one appears to be headed back to Chicago for 18-5 on Wednesday night the spike the exploits of Michael Jordan bottling up on hold for 11 first half years hits for to give us 29 points in the fourth quarter nearly took the Bulls on his back to pull this one out well I said in the opening Marvin Alonzo Mourning in not necessarily guaranteeing a win but saying that his team would win I said that he must have spotted something that everyone else missed and really you got to give this Miami Heat team a lot of credit with our heart character and not so much that they're gonna win this ballgame but coming out and playing winning basketball and that's really what I think this crowd this organization was looking for and what they got from this organization and team all season long is Alonzo Mourning finishing off that play 18 points 14 rebounds Rodman had a helpful defense and Ronnie makes the perfect dishes after doing happy to see his pal from Georgetown Alonzo Mourning finish off that play and earlier make those two key free throws coming into today with a record of four-and-oh facing elimination that is most impressive there were three decisive games of the vessels they said they came back from the 3-1 deficit to defeat the Knicks and they've won a fifth and final game of that open [Applause] the heat responding so well did not five years in a job I'm getting his club ready the defending world champion Chicago Bulls here goes a steno not 11 for 10 seconds remaining Bulls do have one timeout left here's Jordan and checked out of ours it will be Miami ball and John truly will just want it out [Applause] [Music] and he certainly played me [Music] all right thanks mom Alonso you guaranteed yeah I did everybody risks they kind of counted us out they wrote us off you know but we strive to play well in that bird situation you know we believed in ourselves and that's what you got to get under success we got it done today a lot of people taking shots at care if you guys weren't playing hard you were gonna just fold that didn't happen today but listen you know they gave us a lot of opportunities the game 1 & 2 you win the ballgame but we just didn't take advantage of you know God did shot today you know that made a difference in our play you know when we hit shot and we're getting baskets in transition we execute the offense you know we're very effective and it's tough to beat it a great day you don't see how to make any predictions for winning hey we're gonna go with the same attitude say Madison we come out with the same attitude mention something mental and physical toughness will get the job then graduation Lucy on Wednesday all right back to you Marv our naman Alonzo Mourning 18 points 14 rebounds Tim Hardaway with 25 Jamal Mashburn 17 points Michael Jordan as a funnel to the old fur lapis finished 9 of 35 29 points 20 of his 29 this series advances to Chicago for a game five [Music] and tomorrow night starting at 9:00 they each get a mini Houston Rockets and a Utah Jazz in game number five of that series that is tied in to will see you once they aside from Chicago as the Miami Heat remain alive by beating the Chicago Bulls 87 285 albert fekus barber job saying so long from Miami
