Healer Beginner Guide - World of Warcraft

g'day guys i'm ragnarok welcome to my beginner guide for healing so in this guide i'm going to run through a dungeon as a healer and show you what to do as a healer in a dungeon and first i'm just going to go over a couple of basic things so before you enter a dungeon as a healer you want to make sure that your specialization is a healer specialization right the classes that do have healing specs would be priest paladin shaman druid and monk now if you're a any of those classes and you're in the damage specialization you'll still have some healing spells however they'll use a lot of your mana pool up and then you won't have any healing spells left to do because you'll be out of mana all the time whereas as a healer your your healing spells will use a lot less mana so it's not as bad it's way more efficient for a healer next thing i want to mention is i'm going to be doing this as a holy healer holy priest so holly is a pretty straightforward spec to use this is why i'm going to show it to you guys as beginners discipline's a lot more advanced as it's more about preventing damage rather than healing and so first i'm going to go over a couple of key spells first one is renew this is just this spell here this is a hill over time so it heals 400 over 15 seconds so if i cast that you can see there's a small heel that ticks every couple of seconds and that buff will last 15 seconds so you can it's an instant cast you can just spread this out on as many people as you want and as you can see there's a lot of healing going on already as you've spread it out a little bit the next deal you got is heel it's literally just called heel so it's like a cast heel so this is what you'll be spending mainly when they're they've got a bit of healing let's just say they're missing about 20 30 of health you you'll probably use this spell to top them up as well as have the renew ticking on them at the same time so you start with renew and then use heal now we've got another spell called flash hill flash hill is a faster heel see how it's a it's about half the cast time as what heel is it uses way more mana though so you sort of save this for when people are getting a bit dangerously low on health that way you can spam this a few times and i'll top them right back up nice and quickly but at a mana cost whereas heal it's like doesn't use anywhere near as much as mana so you want to try and use this spell more unless they're about to well unless they're closer to death if they're really close to death there are a few spells that you can use that will instantly give them health back so this one here hollywood serenity um it does a big hill of 1500 and it's an instant cut so you can just be like full like that and that will bring bring the health straight back up but it's got a one minute cooldown though so you want to sort of save this for when you really do need it you don't want this to be on cool down and then someone be really hope really low health and then while you're trying to cast fly shield they die so just a couple of things to look out for all right so now let's press i to open the dungeon finder and select healer find group alrighty let's hit enter dungeon alrighty we are in a dungeon so first we need to find our group and they are down here alrighty and here's our tank now notice my frames on the left here they look a little bit different let me just increase that so to increase the size of this system ui scale you take that and crease it up a little bit like this boom hopefully that helps you guys see a little bit better now minimize that all right first we're going to just cast renew this is that heel over time effect we're going to cast them on our targets and we're gonna cast heal on the targets that have greater amount of health missing all right then we go here uh this first bus is a little bit annoying he likes to fear that's a wrap all right let's cast some renews out you notice i do a little bit of damage to the boss that's not super essential i just do that when everyone's at full health okay he's about to fear i think i'm going to get feared yeah bugger that was my bad i wasn't standing in the right place too busy healing you'll notice that healing is probably one of the hardest things to do in the game out of tanking healing and damage because healing you got to not only keep an eye on everyone's health you also need self-awareness which is what i just lacked so when he went to do the fear uh yeah i didn't move out of line of sight from the boss so i got feared however sometimes you do have a shaman in your grip and they can drop a tremor totem that can dispel the fear but he might be too low level to drop it or he might not know how okay he's gonna roar again you got me again see look at this myself awareness just so bad i don't normally heal by the way this is just me just showing you the basics of feeling alrighty we got him down no one died job done all right now we mount back up and we're gonna head back up top there's our tank there on his broomstick all right cast renew on him now heal over time nothing wrong with just keeping you up on everybody if if you want doesn't use much mana just free healing basically once it's up and running all right stay out of the swellies and bad stuff on the ground otherwise that's more healing that you have to do that skill over time's up you can get some add-ons to help you with healing there's add-ons like healbot and voodoo they basically make it so that your healing spells can bind to your mouse clicks uh i've tried it it's not for me but a lot of healers do recommend it and they think it makes healing a bit more easier and enjoyable it's purely up to you i'm not going to cover the add-ons in this guide though there are add-ons that can also move these into the center of your screen as well so that way you don't have to look off to the left all the time if you've got one of those ultra wide screen monitors this would probably be not ideal if the health bars were like well off to the side somewhere but yeah nothing wrong with using add-ons however it's always good to learn how to heal without the add-ons as well because sometimes add-ons bug out and if they bug out halfway through a fight you don't know how to heal without them yeah your group won't like you too much for that so just something to be aware of what i'm doing here this is no add-ons required for healing so if you follow what i'm doing here you you're good let's do us some flash deals here's taking a lot of damage i'll get some more reviews out everyone's taking a lot of damage here so alrighty in the fight we go on this bus we gotta kill all that items at the same time and then the bus will finally be vulnerable all right let's uh dispel some stuffs so um i don't think i covered the dispelling yet so to dispel basically you look for the debuffs at the bottom left of their raid profile here and to dispel we use uh this ability purify it's only got an eight second cooldown but whenever we see the debuff we use purify and then boom let's go and see you want to try and use this off cooldown if there's a lot of debuffs out so now there's no d bus okay now there's a heap of d bus now there's three stacks so it's on cooldown still since it's off cooldown use it again try and use on some like whoever's got the lowest health or whoever the priority target is for dispelling you can't dispel every single thing different healers can dispel different things so just be aware of that but um yeah it's important that you do use your dispels though if you ignore them too long especially on certain fights you can get into a lot of trouble oh got some braces are they an upgrade yes they are [Music] all right mounts up gotta keep up with the grip they all like to run off and leave the healer behind while he's checking out his new gear i'll just whack some damage over times on the targets to help out with the damage a little bit people's starting to get a bit lower so i should probably heal them back up oh good news about what i get holy nova an explosion of holly lie around you deals up 67 holy damage up to 49 healing to allies within 12 yards awesome so we finally got that aoe heel oh look at this i can just i can literally just spam this spell and it doesn't even use that much manner and keeps everyone healed up no feared yeah this thing's for years so you've got to make sure you're interrupted polynomial boom top everyone up it's only got a 12 yard range though holy nova so you got to make sure you're standing next to the people when the enemies that you want to heal and do damage to like some uh some more news out finish it cool oh yeah holy nova such a fun spell it's probably my favorite spell as a holy priest i'm so glad i got to show you guys that spelled in this video it's really cool just boom so much healing all right dispel that let's whack some damage over times out don't stand in that fire back there that fire does so much let me hunt up a few people walk through the fire that's why the health's missing shaman helped me out with some off heels what a good shaman yeah usually um some classes that do have a healing spec will get some healing abilities even in damage spec so they can throw out a couple of like off heels here and there to help out with the healing if they can see i'm struggling a little bit which is good [Music] uh this boss hasn't done too much damage just yet so just open up the damage as much as i can oh dispel this flicks a lot of fire damage all right just using transfusion all standard of blood no way she sucks in the blood and her health drops heaps then all righty no one's died yet how good is this walk through the fire oh look how much damage it's doing to everybody it walks through they're all like oh don't worry this hill is good he'll keep us alive yeah don't rely on the hitler to uh heal you through bat through standing through mechanics just yeah if someone's purposely standing in the fire or purposely not moving out of the fire or something um like yeah you can try your best to heal the mum but if they die then it's not it's definitely not the hill as well sometimes it's better if you just let them die and focus on healing the people actually doing the right thing all right last boss this is good nice short dungeon smart like some news out shaman's taking a bit of damage for some reason all right i'll help kill this ad cool that's dead now you got to watch out for these spiders um as a healer you got to have make sure you you know while you're looking at the health bars and everything that's great but you've got to make sure you your positioning is appropriate right you don't want to be standing in bad things like those purple spiders that will do a lot of damage if you if you stand on them the damage going out cool and that's the dungeon guys easy as that so healing isn't as bad as you think especially i recommend leveling uh a healer to learn how to heal and that way you get one spell at a time as you level up and it makes it a lot easier to adapt to the class and how to heal i'll just go over a couple of interface settings with you guys real quick so raid profiles is the most important one if i turn this off that's what it looks like by default so to turn that on you go raid profiles in interface settings and then click use raid style party frames and they'll make them look nice and neat like that it's a lot easier to see the health bars you can also show debuffs and display only dispellable debuffs and that way only debuffs that you can dispel with your purify ability or your equivalent uh dispeller ability if you're playing a different healer it would make it a lot easier to know when to use this spell so it's very important as well i also had class colors turned on that's more personal preference same with power bars i recommend turning those on if you want to identify the classes a little bit easier on the fly and that's pretty much it as far as the healing guide goes if there's any questions or comments or anything i've missed that
