Harvey Weinstein: "Shocking" Oprah did not get Golden Globe nomination

adaptation of august osage county eat no eat it mom no eat that catfish go to hell i have something to talk to you about no you don't barbara no you don't shut up what's to talk about mom forget it eat the fish barbara okay fine do what you want i have to tell you something ivy's a lesbian brah no you're not no i'm not yes you are did you eat your fish barbara be quiet we're pleased to welcome harvey back to studio 57 welcome thank you charlie so what should we expect from this year's oscar nominations suspect you know i would always suspect a surprise there's always going to be somebody who's going to be shocked so what's the surprise so far in the other uh announcement i know that gal's you know her great friend but but you know and it's my movie lee daniel's the butler but the fact that oprah didn't get a golden globe nomination is shocking thankfully she got the screen actors guild which reflects more of the academy and she got the british academy award uh bafta last week because the globes aren't members of the academy you know the age the hollywood farm press but those two other groups have huge crossover so obviously fingers crossed for her that was quite a snub you know that happened there like kind of like the affleck snub but look what happened to him he ended up winning last year let's talk about august osage county star-studded film incredibly well done put together you were the first to adapt that or say you wanted that movie done after you saw the play well it wasn't even after i saw the play kid walks into my office who works for me says i've got a great idea read this it's like weighs 50 pounds 180 page three and a half hour play these guys are desperate for money there's nobody in the show no names no anything write a check harvey i read this thing the words by tracy letts are brilliant i write a check i never in a million years think i'm going to get that check back ever the show goes on twin the pulitzer prize it is three and a half hours long we adapt the movie you know it's a less than two hour movie and you know we and the and the movie opened last weekend we did fantastic business but we got a couple of critics who were talking about the ending yeah they were talking about the change of the ending between the play and the yeah the ending is optimistic this is a show about you see this family it's like watching the borgias you feel good you see meryl streep and you go thank god she's not my mother yeah yeah you think i'm not so dysfunctional it's perfect around the holidays to release a movie like that oh yeah and everybody's like tom hanks said i saw the sausage county but i also saw it a week ago with my mother-in-law's yes and i'll tell you i've seen a lot of plates fly in my life the reason i made this movie was you know my mother and my aunt and i'm going to get murdered for this they've spent like the 30-year war plates things flying cups they they talk they hug they scream they yell and all we do is pick up the furniture the glasses rearrange the house so you read it and felt like this they say merry christmas yes this is the weinstein family dinner so look this you know it was a hit show julia roberts gets in a car and decides not to be her mother at the end spoiler alert it's such a funny triumphant movie and goes off with a triumphant happy ending that was what tracy let's wanted to do on stage i was there he said if i had a pickup truck on the stage i would have had the character drive it off we put it in the movie and they say hollywood ending guys tracy's been done 100 interviews and said point blank beginner but they just pick and take him they say meryl streep's really this one's brilliant but that hollywood ending and of course movies might be up for oscars this year how many movies are going to be about that you might have made look you know it could be an embarrassment of riches and we get nothing you mean whatever so i don't know i'll tell you one controversial thing but but how many do you have that might be getting oscar nominations we have augusta we have philomena we have lee daniels the butler we have fruitvale station and we have mandela five five movies right so how do you decide the one you're going to support the most you support if you support them equally oh you do i'll bet you your budget if you look at your budget you have selected who you think is most likely to win you're putting all your money behind you know what's funny i thought this year with mandela fruitvale you know and lee daniels the butler and fox having 12 years a slave i thought this was a year we could crash the barrier we'll see what happens tomorrow but it looks like there's one movie 12 years and that's getting yeah that's trending yeah it's like training as that's yeah that's the movie for the black audience but why isn't it three why isn't ninjas zelda forest would occur and but why is it trending what is it that makes it trend do you think critics criticize it yeah this is difficult but pushing it but now harvey they're talking about you getting into television and they're saying we're counting on the harvey factor what is the harvey factor from harvey well i think audiences trust us you mean like even if they're not no no no no it's the harvey factor not audiences trust us well trust us the weinstein company whatever they trust our company like august osage county last weekend we opened the movie and it's a smash hit even with you know tony scott getting it wrong in the new york times chris tells me i have to say controversial stuff but they're not going to have me back on the air guys you know whatever so look you know tony scott will probably review all my movies back for the next thousand years but if it pleases chris are you doing matt damon and matt damon and ben ben affleck are you getting them back together that is going to read that incredible in the new york times magazine last week it's an article about two long island fishermen yeah one goes underwater and then the other one saves him an hour left and the guy's dead i emailed ben affleck i said i've always wanted to see you underwater you mean i think that's i think it's perfect for your talents i said matt you on the other hand you can play the acting part that'll just be underwater you know blowing bubbles the whole movie i don't hear an answer there let me tell you what what what they wrote back to me okay whatever i cannot say on a family television you are going to get into television i am doing marco polo right now in malaysia right i'm going to do a big show about the mafia i have seven reality shows on the air okay but finally for my satisfaction and i'm going to do shows like breaking bad do all this what's true gotta go that's what i'm hearing okay what's trending other than 12 years what leo dicaprio said at the end of the golden globes this is true and it is trending he called philomena philomania whatever you know and that is trending whatever in other words the idea that there's this 80 year old woman and philamania that's true but look for the surprises tomorrow it could be fruitvale could be a surprise there could be some of them somebody's going to get knocked out tomorrow i'm still pulling for everybody i'm still pulling harvey from all right guys thank you so much for having me okay
