Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle

when Harry came home from the road he would show me new stuff that he'd been working on and I'd show him some things that I've been doing and I showed him the poem for cat's in the cradle and any kind of push to the side he took more interest in a couple of other things that I've been working on and then after Joshua was born he grabbed it and said hey I got to put music to this so it had been written a lot earlier but it it really had him after Josh was born if it didn't happen to me so often it would almost be awkward but I'm almost to it now because people actually want to cuz I look like my dad too though they'll want to have contact when they put their arm on my shoulder and really try and communicate to me how it healed their relationship with their father or it got them closer to someone they had fallen away from it's always amazing to me because people just almost before they even get words out I can see shakiness and emotion in their eyes and the way they're just kind of want to get close the space between me and them when I haven't even met them before which is a tribute to my dad a child arrived just the other day he came to the world in the usual way but there were planes to catch it bills to pay he learned to walk while I was away and he was talking four and do it and I'd say I'm gonna be like you dad you know I'm gonna be like you I catch it the cradle and the silver spoon little boy blue and the man and the bull when you're coming home that I know we'll get together then son you know we'll have a good time then a son turned ten just the other day he said thanks for the ball that come on let's play can you teach me to throw I said not today I got a lot to do he said that's okay and they walked away by the smile never damn that said I'm gonna be like him you know I'm gonna be like him the cat's in the cradle and a silver smoke little Bablu at the man of the moon when you coming home daddy no we'll get together then you know we'll have a good well he came from college just the other day so much like a man I just had to say son I'm proud of you can you sit for a while he shook his head and he said with a smile what I'd really like that is to borrow the car keys see you later can I have them please and the in the cradle matter sale and a long live when you come at home son I don't know we'll get together that you know allows well of long since retired but sons moved away I called him up just the other day said I'd like to see you if you don't mind he said I'd love to dad if I could find the time you see my new jobs a hassle and the kids of the flu but it's your nice talking to you dad it's been sure nice talking to you and as he hung up the phone it occurred to me he'd grown up just like me my boy was just like me and the cradle Nanna in a ball when you come at home son I don't you'll get together there you know we'll have a good time hey come on out up come on I hope this thing being
