This whole interview is super interesting, the interviewer asks intelligent questions and Tommy gives excellent insight at a perfectly understandable level for his audience, but I particularly found the controller stuff really valuable.
I'll look for more interviews by this interviewer, but if anyone has links to similar interviews/talks (by anyone) post some links pls.
Honest, absolutely non trolling question: what has he done since SMB? His Wikipedia page stops at 2010 and his Twitter profile says he's working on SMB Forever (which launches next month). Is there any other game I don't know about? I loved SMB and I love listening and reading to whatever he says about gamedev.
So like most successful games, he just threw shit at the wall and abandoned the stuff that didn't instinctively feel right to him.
This is why it's so funny to see people try to approach game development like a science when it's not scientific at all.
