daily flapping another method of stock removal as you know we talked about rough machining grinding and now once you do the grinding the next level of fine machining would be laughing there's two methods that we use here and one of them is an automatic lapping machine which uses diamond we're going to talk about that later we will probably do a video on that at another time the other one is hand laughing and that's one we're going to address at the moment so what I like to do is I want to start with a good lapping plate this particular plate has been ground flat within a couple of tenths you are not going to get a good flat surface lapping something if the lapping plate has all in it or if it's high in one side one another so you've got to start with a good foundation that's a good lapping play that's we have here next we're going to talk about the types of abrasive that is that's what's going to do the cutting and removing the stock so we've got four grades here going all the way up to 1200 which is superfine and down to 400 I'm going to put 400 on one side probably or maybe maybe 600 put the 600 on one side and put 400 on the other side the only difference is going to be that the trough hundred obviously because it's finders like sandpaper 1200 is finer than 600 it's not going to do it much won't be as aggressive so we'll start with an aggressive then I think 600 work and why I want to keep this plate split in half so we don't contaminate both sides then you want to do some laughing okay looks and laughing I didn't think so we have grooves in the plate and the reason we have grooves in there so it will allow the lapping compound to get into that area so we'll start with this one first and let's see how that works it'll also tell us if our heart is flat and again keep in mind we don't want to get this contaminated on on either side so I'm going to move this around and I like to use a figure-eight when I'm laughing for me that seems to be the most effective way now you'll see that this is starting to turn a little bit black which means we're probably removing a little bit of the abrasive on the plate or rather the material on the plate as well as on the item that we're laughing I don't think get a good shot of that sorry time for me to quit one two three time to wash up can you see Declan can you get a good shot of that locking that around so we get the light to reflect off of it right what I'm seeing here is it's hitting on this corner and on this corner and not so much in the middle now we're talking probably a half a tenth maybe a tenth so it's not much so we're going to stay with this compound which again is 600 that's pretty fine I'm gonna get a little another little charge and we'll do it again and I don't want to push on it too hard because if I do it'll Bend and that won't get the flat that won't make it flat if I push on this I can bend that a couple of tenths we're not talking about you know so let's take another look at it after that slight that's going to take to remove the grinding marks as you know I don't know if you can see that Glenn I see it cleaned up here and here it's still there still a little bit in the middle that needs to be taken off this compound was probably not aggressive enough but we're going to make it work and when I finish it I like to go back and forth rather than figure eight when I finish it it kind of gives it aged a different look if you will you well I'm going to do I think I'm going to put a little more aggressive material on here I don't think that this is quite as flat as it ought to be so we're going to go to a higher allure grade rather and that will contaminate this which means you can always go look you can put the rougher lapping material on top of finer but you don't want to go the reverse so we're going down to the 400 and this is basically in a London which is what the grinding wheels are made out of so all you're getting here is a point of a grinding wheel in a paste that's all this is and let's see how that works we're not going to go any closer because that's a fight that's of course as we have is 400 now I'm seeing you notice it's a little dollar because it's not is because it's not a spine of media a little more grinding material sometimes you have to clean the plate off too and start over you notice this is the material that's being removed remember it comes off a backing plate as well as off your product and it's another reason why I like to go the full length so I don't wear a hole in the plate see ya well that was aquitted now why is everybody still working dedicated employees they don't want to go home love it here must have a good relationship with their wife what you blend your a ball well I think we pretty much got at that time what do you think you got it all right so we're going to do good our viewers see that right so we're going to go up we want to do 1200 or 900 I think we're going to go to 900 you know what remember what I said you can go one way but not the other I can do 1,200 I'll do that and if I have to go to 900 I can I don't want to go to 912 are we learning anything are you learning anything Jim turn up your hearing aid blend you can hear me can't you now don't want to use this cloth why that's already contaminated with the other material exactly so that guy is no good we don't want that we're going to go to a fresh one and you guys out there that are professional lappers means young me because I don't do this for a living like you guys do everybody's got a professional opinion which I certainly respect oh we already have one no point putting that on the rag right why give it to the cleaning company yeah man I'll tell you what I do a couple these would be like gauge box I can ring them together see it better soon to finish now it looks the grinding marks have gone that's what it looked like before now give it a couple more swipes again I checked this side separate from this side and your plate will last a lot longer if you don't just use it in the middle if you go over the outside edge in both directions guarantee you're not going to wear a hole in it you might wear a little one this way but we're more concerned about this direction I'd also like to see it dry up a little bit you get a little shinier finish when it dries have a messy job another method of stock removal as we talked about this is a last method of resale of machining or finishing if you will if you can't get any finer than this I mean this is pretty much it laughing go ahead and try to give it a little bit a little bit of a better shine that will take place as this lapping compound tends to dry off and again you'll see that I don't know if you can see this on the camera but it's black and not as black as it is here because this was more aggressive material I don't I want to be in in the lapping compound business or the rag business because you're going to use a lot of rags with laughing to do it right I'm happy with this I think we're good and flat I think we're going to get a good shine to examiner like a gauge block will you see this baby oh yeah oh yeah looks like Chrome ready you believe it is that awesome got it so you could see the machine it's like a mirror Oh who's that guy alright man I love it see the reflection that is a mirror finish that's what laughing is all about so that's laughing 101 folks and again this diamond slurry is used on our on our automatic machine which is a powered machine it's circular and you put the parts in there and it doesn't by itself and those a lot faster automatically dispenses the fluid and again this is diamond and this is a London so there you have it and thanks for watching
