hey guys welcome back to my channel for today's video i'm gonna be talking through what my once a week hair washing and blow drying routine looks like i did get this request from you guys so i thought i would just make it its own video really get into detail about every single thing that i do before i wash my hair to prepare what i actually do in the shower to wash my hair yes i literally recorded myself washing my hair in the shower it's probably the last time i'm gonna do that at least for a long time we'll get there and then what i actually do post shower for treatment blow dry etc so if you want to hear everything that i do when it is time to wash my hair once a week every week you're in the right spot let's jump right into it okay so if you guys have not already seen some of my previous hair care videos i will have them linked below but that's where you guys actually requested this video because i did kind of hint at it there so i have a video talking through how i grew my hair long and strong and healed it from hard water damage part of that is only washing it once a week and then from there you guys wanted to hear how i actually trained my hair from daily washing to once a week washing so i have a whole video talking about that and then you guys said can you actually talk through what you do when it's time to wash your hair so here we are so the first thing that i do is actually the day before i wash my hair and that is apply hair oils to the ends and ponytail length of my hair so the oils that i have are actually not specifically just for hair you could use them that was my ankle cracking if you could hear that i'm like the crackiest person ever okay they're not specifically for just your hair you could use them on your face or the rest of your body if you wanted to and they're all from the ordinary but you could find these oils from a different brand or within a different product if you wanted to so i have their moroccan oil marula oil and squalane actually which i feel like you wouldn't think of for hair the three of those oils together has been my trusty trio i swear by that combination i've been obsessed i feel like it's honestly made the hugest difference in my hair yes i'm also using higher quality hair care and really being nitpicky about the certain products that i'm using for shampoo conditioner masks etc but i'm telling you i feel like my hair really has just gone up a notch from the use of those oils i've been doing that for probably like close to six months at this point and feel like my hair is just softer shinier it's grown longer and a stronger way if that makes sense the three of these oils together it's the best so what i will do is apply probably two drops of each oil to my hands and just rub them together and then i will go ahead and just kind of massage that through the ends of my hair so i'm just focusing those oils on the ponytail length of my hair so right below my chin these and then working my way down really with an emphasis on the ends because that's where i need the most hydration and the most repair because of course these little ends have been with me the longest so i'm really not overdoing it here there's no need to grease up the hair if you will i'm really just trying to add enough so that my hair strands are as evenly coated as possible so that they can all reap the benefits but really not trying to overdo it there's no need for that of course if you have really thick hair or a lot more hair than me then you'll want to use more oils but you don't need to use that much i mean oils or oils they definitely do weigh down the hair a little bit after i apply those oils i will go ahead and either just twist my hair so take two pieces kind of in the same motion that you would braid but you're only using two pieces or i will braid my hair loosely and go ahead and put either a velvet or a satin silk scrunchie at the ends of my hair i talked about in my hair growth video why i personally just use velvet scrunchies and i did have a question about satin scrunchies that works great too it's just i don't do anything like this i don't even know why i still own these i guess i just haven't thrown them away but i will do that and then i go ahead and sleep with my hair like that so i typically will apply those oils the night before i'm ready to wash my hair for me lately that's been on thursday night and then friday morning i will wash my hair so i have done it before i've actually left them in overnight and then the full next day and i didn't end up washing my hair on friday and i watched it on saturday and it worked fine i didn't have an issue with that but as you can see here the next morning my hair does look a tiny bit greasy again that's why you want to be careful and not overdo it so if you're not washing your hair immediately the next day you could get away with leaving your hair like this because i was actually kind of impressed with how it looked here it still looks yes a little bit greasy but i also think it looks so pretty it adds just that really nice natural looking wave obviously no heat so there's a no heat wave option right there i love not that it matters because then i'm going to go ahead and wash my hair right after anyway before i jump in the shower i do like to make sure that i'm brushing my hair through to prevent unnecessary tangling and breakage which definitely will happen if i don't brush before i shower so i would recommend that i always use my wet brush pro for that i'm obsessed it's the best wet brush ever because it's even gentler than the original less breakage than the original which is pretty impressive because the original is really good as well but this one is just a little bit better and then i'm ready to go to wash so welcome my shower clips i wish i could show you guys my bathroom but also not it's honestly embarrassing it looks like a full tornado blew through my bathroom so i have one of those things that what do you even call it i'll insert a photo here of what i have behind my toilet for extra storage because you know i have an obscene amount of skin care and hair care i mean in my defense it's for reviews but i have that so i was like perfect i'll just put my camera on that like a tripod but i had to move it so with me trying to move that i knocked off every single item off the shelf everything fell everywhere eli was like what's going on in here literally i had products falling into the toilet into the toilet and then i started to film myself which we'll get to and it's very difficult not to have a fog appear on the camera from the heat of the shower so i had to open the bathroom door in my closet door i had to make the shower cold and then obviously have the curtain open let's just say it was not a pleasant shower experience it was not relaxing at all so i hope that this is helpful for you guys and you appreciate it oh my gosh i was like i was very stressed after to say the least so i hope these clips turn out oh my goodness i haven't even checked to see if they turned out yet but first thing i do of course is wet my hair and the one callout in one of my cares that i do have a shower filter in my shower head that helps to filter out some of those harmful chemicals from the hard water that i have in my apartment i will have that linked below as well as all the other products that i talk about here today i do make a small commission if you decide to purchase through those links which really helps me out so that i can continue to purchase things to review for you guys no pressure of course but much appreciated if you do then i will go ahead and apply my first application of shampoo and i don't really want to give a blanketed recommendation for the amount of product that you should use because everyone has different hair lengths different hair textures consistencies thickness so it's really just going to depend again same kind of thing as oils it's like enough to get the job done but i'm not overdoing it so i will go ahead and just focus the shampoo on my scalp area so i'm not shampooing the ends of my hair i'm not giving them any sort of a rub because that is something that can unnecessarily dry out the ends of my hair shampoo at least from what i talked to my hair stylist about is really meant for your scalp and not the ends of your hair so the shampoo naturally is going to travel down the ends of your hair as you're rinsing it out so if you're concerned about your ends not getting clean they still do it's just that you're focusing the majority of the product on your scalp i can't see my hair's in my face okay so i will go ahead and give it a nice scrub to make sure that i am loosening up that product build up and really properly cleansing my scalp since that's the only time that i do that throughout the week then i will go ahead and rinse that out and then go back in with a second application of shampoo this stuff is absolutely critical for me i talk about that more in depth in my hair training video then i rinse that out and i'm ready to move on this is where i don't follow the exact same routine every single time as far as the actual order in which i apply these next two products so conditioner and hair mask are the only other two things that i apply to my hair while i'm in the shower i've done both i've applied conditioner first done my hair mask i've done the opposite i personally don't think i really notice a difference at the end of the day and how my hair looks or feels it's kind of just depending on what i want to do so if i want to leave my hair mask in for up to 30 minutes i will apply that last get out of the shower and then i will just rinse it off because i have one of those removable shower heads i will rinse that off later after of course everything else is rinsed out of my hair if not what i've been doing recently is applying my hair mask first in the shower so here i'm just using my briojio avocado and kiwi hair mask i have been loving it i do have a brio geo review that i did just recently upload i'll put a card for that here and link it below if you're interested i have this mask from them plus quite a few other products that i put to the test but i've been loving this mask it's so soft and nourishing and moisturizing so i will apply that again just to the ponytail ends of my hair i personally don't apply conditioner or hair masks kind of like above ear level that's just what works for me in my hair and then i will go ahead and apply my conditioner on top of that that's a new technique that i've been trying out again i don't know that i noticed that much of a difference i've also tried rinsing out the hair mask and then applying conditioner applying conditioner first and then the hair mask and then just rinsing both off right away i don't know and i've also read articles that say opposite things for what it's worth i've kind of tested it all and i don't know if there's a big difference for me so here i let that hair mask sit on my hair for probably like five to ten minutes before i applied conditioner and at that point i just went ahead and started shaving and exfoliating my body doing everything that i do for self tan prep because i also self tan on the same day that i wash my hair it's a very eventful day so here i actually forgot to say i'm testing out a new shampoo and conditioner from the brand alterna i'm going to be doing a review on that soon so stay tuned for that on their my hair my canvas range so you'll see some of those products in this video because i was starting to test them out i have a review coming soon and then at that point i'm ready to rinse off both my hair mask and the conditioner and that's it i'm done i don't do anything else in the shower yes the start to finish process probably takes 20 to 30 minutes for me because of the hair mask because i have to wait so that's where sometimes i will just prefer to get out of the shower and leave the mask in because i get pruning really easily in the shower but on non-wash days my shower is probably close to three minutes so it's fine i can deal with it one day of the week then of course i'm ready to dry my hair so i personally do not use a cotton towel that's something that i have found causes my hair to get frizzier a little more staticky and also cause more breakage so i use a microfiber towel i've been doing that for over a year and also swear by that it's the best it's much gentler and softer and i will just press on the ends of my hair to wring out some of that water and if you have a microfiber towel or if you try one out after watching this video you'll see it really does soak up that water nicely and that's all i do i'm not flipping my hair upside down and rubbing it back and forth that's something that can definitely create static cause breakage everything that i do is just essentially trying to be as gentle as possible with my hair after that i like to go ahead and use a detangling spray so the spray that i'm using here is from pureology it's their color fanatic spray obsessed with this stuff i really love these multi-purpose multitasker sprays because they will help to detangle condition the hair nourish the hair serve as a heat protectant anything that i can use that's going to decrease the amount of steps that i have to do later is ideal in my book so i'm obsessed like i said with this spray it's so so good i know that pureology is definitely a little bit pricier but it's totally worth it for me sometimes if i'm feeling really lazy i will just use that multi-purpose spray and that's it nothing else move on with my day but if i really want my hair to look voluminous even shinier even healthier just have that wow factor i do like to use other prep products before i blow dry i just find it makes a difference so here you can see again i was testing out some alternative products i was trying out their texture spray which i was really excited about because i just don't have much texture to my hair it's very soft which sounds nice but that's one of the reasons my hair doesn't hold a curl because i just don't have any grit to it on its own you know i feel like people that have really textured hair can hold a curl for a full week and i'm very jealous of that so i was using that texture spray of course i don't always use a texture spray sometimes i will just use a heat primer or blow dry priming spray sometimes i will skip the additional spray altogether and just go for a blow dry cream totally depends i have a lot of different styling products that i love which i also did upload a video on recently and then i went ahead and applied this air dry cream so this one is actually to help your hair dry faster it's not like some of my other blow-dry creams that are really designed to make that blow-dry styling process even better but i thought i would test it out and see kind of how it worked with a blow-dry and for what it's worth i did end up liking that so after that the last thing that i applied to my hair was this hair gloss or just hair serum i'll talk about that more in depth now i'll turn a review i don't always use a hair serum i just wanted to test it out here and for me when i'm using a hair serum i'm using far less than i would when i'm going in with those hair oils from the ordinary the night before i wash that's totally different and this really is just to add a little bit of shine a little bit of something extra to my hair so i don't find it totally necessary but it can be a really nice step if you don't have naturally shiny hair on its own then once all that product is in my hair i will go ahead and brush through my hair from there i will go ahead and let my hair air dry 80 to 90 percent of the way that's something that i can get away with because of my hair type and texture i know not everybody can do that because your hair starts to grow and get a little bit poofy so if you need to blow dry right away of course you have to do what's best for you and your hair so i probably let it dry like that for maybe close to four hours sometimes i'll go four to six hours it really depends but it does still take a while for my hair to fully air dry my ends will dry quickly but up here like towards this part of my head and my hair that still would be pretty damp usually when i go in with a blow dryer so then i am ready to blow dry the blow dryer that i'm using here is from bioionic and when i talked about it in my hair styling video that i posted recently when i was looking afterwards to find links for you guys everything was out of stock which i'm so bummed about i'm so sorry i did not realize i don't know if it's still going to be out of stock when this video goes up probably knowing my luck but a really good affordable option for a blow dryer is from conair that is my second favorite blow dryer it's amazing it's a fraction of the price i actually was just gifted this bio ionic one so of course i'm going to use it but i used this conair one that i will link below for you guys for years was obsessed it's high power it gets the job done and that's another one that's really good if you're just looking to shorten that blow-dry time so this blow-dry technique looks like a hot mess but it's actually again very intentional and this is something that i talked to one of my hair stylists about years ago i was just telling her my hair looks so flat i don't have volume what can i do and she was like you have to do the messy blow dry and i was like what are you talking about she basically said you want to flip your hair the opposite direction which i think a lot of people do know that creates volume but you want to do that all over your hair all over your head of hair so not just flipping these front pieces but really flipping everything going upside down taking these front pieces flipping them forward so i am incredibly messy with it in the sense that i am tossing my hair in multiple directions to try to create as much lift and volume as possible and that is something that i have to do i will start off kind of just blow drying it down like you can see here in this clip and that is just to help to speed up the dry time because that part of my hair tends to stay the wettest but after that i will go ahead and get really messy with it flip my hair in multiple directions and that is what works best for me and creates the most volume for me and even still i don't have the most volume of all time and then another brush that i love to use for blow drying is this vented brush that i got from amazon i've also talked to you guys about this one it's amazing because it has similar bristles to the wet brush pro but the difference is that it's vented so you can actually use it while you're blow drying your hair and it's not going to fry your hair off like an unvented brush would super affordable from amazon it came in a pack of two again that'll be linked below but i love that one as well because it has a slight curve to it so it does kind of help to style the hair at the same time instead of just being straight up and down and here because i'm not using any sort of curling iron or the revlon one step styler i do like to add a little bit of style to my hair but it's very difficult for me to round brush on my own it takes so long me round brushing my hair from start to finish to get a full sleek style look takes me close to almost an hour so i just don't ever do it anymore but i will take a round brush this one's from kristen s i love this one it's super gentle and it doesn't tug my hair which a lot of round brushes do and i will style these front pieces just kind of give it a little twist little one two round brush what and start to flip the ends in towards me i will grab a few pieces if some of them look a little bit funky and wavy and kind of style those but i'm not very precise with it i'm not doing that evenly all over my entire head of hair because i just don't want to so you definitely can you can just kind of use that technique that i'm doing on those front pieces all over your head of hair if you would like to it's just not for me so i do like the way that this looks it's just not my favorite finished style the revlon one step styler definitely gives me a sleeker more put together look so when i am doing this blow dry routine it's because i'm curling my hair the next day or two days from then it's something that works but my hair like i've told you guys before just doesn't hold a style very well so while i like this initial blow-dry it's not something that holds up for me throughout the night so that's why i don't rely on that on its own for my styling throughout the week i will curl my hair or use a revlon one step styler but it's a good kind of in between all right you guys so that is everything that i do step by step once a week to wash and blow dry my hair i hope that this was helpful for you guys and that you enjoyed it you'll definitely have to let me know your thoughts in the comments below do you already follow a similar routine are you going to try something new in your hair washing routine after watching this video very curious we can chat there again i do already have everything else that i talked about in this video linked below so if you want to see how i use the revlon one step styler how i curl my hair any of the other tips and tricks that i talked about everything is linked below for you guys so if there's anything else you would like to see from me next on this channel leave that request in the comments below i would love to do that for you
