new i'm stephanie i do videos on home improvement projects woodworking room makeovers really all things home related in today's video i'm totally transforming our guest bathroom without any major demo i'm going to walk you guys through the whole process and hopefully you'll get some good ideas on how to refresh your own bathroom i originally just wanted to replace the light fixture and the vanity but that led to replacing the mirror and the faucet and the toilet and at that point my decor was outdated so i had to get some new decor and i'm so glad i decided to make all those updates because this feels like a completely renovated brand new bathroom i want to quick think kichler lighting for sponsoring this video having the right functional lighting in every space is important it's see what we started with [Music] [Music] for this bathroom refresh i'm going to be replacing the old toilet with a new delta toilet i'll post all of our bathroom products in the description below in case you're interested i plan to replace our old vanity as well here's the new vanity i found off [Music] wayfair these days it's not [Music] easy [Music] now i'm unpacking our new light fixture from kichler this light fixture and other trend forward looks and styles are all available on homedepot.com and in some select home depot locations if they aren't stocked at your local home depot you can purchase online and have them shipped to your home or your closest store whichever is most convenient for you i think lighting is one of the most important design elements it can transform a space especially a small space like this bathroom so i'm not afraid to invest in quality products [Music] first things first i'm going to remove the toilet before messing with any of the plumbing we turned off the main water supply to the house we have old brittle pipes so we just wanted to take some extra precaution turn the water off at the shutoff valve remove the lid and flush the toilet until all the water is drained [Music] take the seat cover off disconnect the water supply from the toilet [Music] loosen the bolts at the floor and then you're ready to remove the toilet [Music] you may have a little water spillage so throw down some towels and carry the toilet nice and level [Music] take an old rag and plug the drain pipe to keep any gases from coming out now i'm disconnecting the faucet we already turned the main water supply off to the house but be sure to also turn the shutoff valves below the sink place a bucket underneath the drain and unscrew the fittings [Music] now i'm disconnecting the water lines i'm going to throw out these old water lines because my new faucet came with their own hot and cold water lines you may need a pliers for this step [Music] now that all of the plumbing is disconnected i'm taking a utility knife and scoring the caulk around the vanity so that i can remove it from the [Music] good just wall have to wreck everyone else's cause i had things to do that never got done it doesn't matter now if i'm having fun all the trees don't lie they don't steal a cheek but a tree can't change the world that's how we got them be cause i came here i took a blade and scraped up all the caulking from the vanity i'm scrubbing the floors with a vinegar and baking soda solution when i'm ready i'll attack the words give it everything i've got but what's left is fool's gold there's more that it's not it ain't nothing but a pretty color now the fun part we have to scrape up the old wax ring which is really nasty sorry for the gross footage we found out that we have a super old cast iron toilet flange it was all rusted out and it was missing a whole section where the second screw was supposed to be so we're going to take out the old flange and replace it with a new one this took way more work than we anticipated the cast iron flange was sealed in place with melted lead so we had to chisel out the lead seal to get the flange free you can use a drill to drill a bunch of holes in the lead or you can use a hammer and a sharp screwdriver like we did once you get underneath the lead it comes up pretty easy in chunks [Music] now that the area is all cleaned up i'm installing the new four inch toilet flange this has a rubber gasket that expands when you tighten the screws on the [Music] inside when installing the flange you want to make sure it's level and that the opening for the mounting screws are the same distance from the wall after the flange is in place i drilled some holes down into the floor and then used some long screws to secure it to the floor [Music] now i'm tightening the bolts with an allen wrench so that the gasket expands and there's a nice tight seal in the drain pipe [Music] install your mounting screws and you're ready for the next step if your flange is in good shape you can just scrape out the old wax ring and install a new one i put the new wax ring in place and then we gently place the toilet on top once the toilet was in place we pushed down so that it's sealed to the wax ring [Music] now i'm assembling the toilet according to the instructions and voila we have a brand new shiny [Music] toilet [Music] it's too strong to drag us down next i need to work on these floors i could only clean up the grout line so much so i'm using this miracle grout pen to paint all of my grout lines bright white this pen really is a miracle my floors look brand new i'll link this pen in the description [Music] sing with me now don't be shy we got great tunes on and turned up high and our i need to customize this vanity a bit in order to make room for all the plumbing i'm using my jigsaw to notch out a section i thought the plumbing would clear the shelf but it didn't not the end of the world i'm just losing some shelf space make sure to take into account your plumbing when choosing a vanity also we were lucky that our tile didn't stop at the old vanity it went all the way underneath and behind it so you'll want to keep that in mind as well [Music] make sure to secure your vanity to the wall now i'm installing our new faucet and drain i got these off amazon and i love them [Music] i'm screwing on these black pieces underneath the sink to secure the faucet [Music] to drag us down i'm applying this teflon tape first before twisting on the water lines [Music] [Music] the drain assembly was a bit long so i disconnected it cut the pipe down on my miter saw and then reconnected it making sure to use the proper rubber gaskets [Music] [Music] here [Music] is we turn the water supply back on and the faucet install is complete [Music] [Music] this light fixture is super easy to install the first thing that you'll want to do is turn off the power to the room head to the breaker box each room should be labeled you just flip the breaker for that room flip your light switch on and off to make sure the power is turned off if you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself i recommend hiring a licensed professional i unscrewed the bolt on my previous light fixture to loosen it then disconnected all the [Music] wires when searching for light fixtures i made sure that it would fit in the same opening as my old light fixture and i double checked that the measurement of the new fixture would fit on my wall here [Music] now i need to unscrew the old mounting hardware so that i can install the new hardware that came with the light [Music] fixture [Music] i could stand on the shoulders of giants make themselves rebels and heretics make sure your mounting bracket is installed straight up and down so that your light fixture is nice and straight now i just need to reconnect the old wiring to the new wiring [Music] use wire nuts to twist the black wires together twist the white wires together and then the copper wire gets twisted around the green screw on the mounting hardware i love the natural brass finish i have a lot of white in this bathroom when i added some other brass accents to give this space a little more modern luxury feel kichler considers this fixture to be farmhouse style and you could totally add some rustic elements to make it fit that aesthetic [Music] when i'm ready i'll attack the words give it everything i've got [Music] make sure your fixture is nice and level and then secure the fixture with the nuts provided [Music] turn the breaker back on and you have a new light fixture [Music] i took out the old medicine cabinet i plan on diying a new medicine cabinet and attaching a mirror but that's a project for another day so for now i'm securing a block of wood to the wall so that i can mount a mirror over the [Music] cause i came hole [Music] yes [Music] now that all i have i threw on some new hardware to my vanity and now i can focus on all the fun vinyl [Music] touches [Music] i can stand on the shoulders of giants make myself the lines i'll make the people defiant that's the way the world came rebels and heretics are the same so you can keep on running your charades doesn't have to make you feel good just doesn't have to wreck everyone else's cause i had things to do that never got done it doesn't matter now if
