help gecooldescience.com and you can go shopping faster than ever all right so of course we have to start this show off off with a happy birthday to my mom happy birthday emma everybody say happy birthday emma she has a big birthday today and she's spending it with her honey my dad in the city in iceland in reykjavik uh they went to dinner and all that um kind of a little bit of a you know about it because we were supposed to be on a cruise together right now yes i was supposed to be teaching on a cruise and i was going to take my parents with me so uh that's a little bit of a bummer so hopefully we'll be able to make that up sometime in the future when covet is long gone so happy birthday mom uh i hope you're enjoying it and look how many people said happy birthday she's gonna love it she always watches the show all right so um a few things about our new look on the website so we've gotten some emails and you know whenever i get a slew of the same emails i feel like it's easier to address it on a show and then a lot of people get their questions answered so we talked about last friday i showed you how the new website look looks everything works the same it's just the look is a little different how to get to your login it's kind of up on the left side instead of the right side and then and then you get to your account and then you still click on my downloadable files now what i wanted to point out we have a frequently asked questions page on our website so you can find it under so let's just pull this up i can show you so you can find it in two places you can find it under the more button at the top on the bottom you'll see faq and also at there's a menu at the bottom of the of the home page go to the home page scroll all the way to the bottom and there's a faq section there now once you click on that faq i'll just pull up this other page you'll get all these questions and answers there's in the middle there there's a little because we get asked so many tech tech quick tech questions and about our pdf downloads and all that stuff so to try and figure some of the things out there is a pdf document that when you click on that big button that says here that one will give you a kind of a pdf download tutorial depending on what device you are on so it will help you to figure things on so everything is the same process like i said however now well it was like this before so when you have a downloadable product for example if you're a fast and furious club you click on that and then you'll see all your pdf patterns when you click on it it automatically downloads it was always like that so it automatically downloads so if you just keep clicking you're downloading another copy and another copy so uh what happened over this past week or weekend or something if you have an apple device a phone iphone or an ipad they had an update so things are a little bit different so what it does now when you click on it on an ipad on on most newer models and i found out is i guess not on all models so on newer models there's a little blue button up in the top that appears that and with an arrow that you have to click on that and then it will ask you to download it when you once you hit that for most folks it disappeared but it downloaded to to your device so where do you find it if you're on ipad or iphone so you have to find your files folder so your files folder how to find that well pull up the search bar click on files and then you'll pull it up inside that files folder is of another folder subfolder that is called my downloads or downloads so once you click in there you'll find them all now if things are still not opening up you have to make sure you have some kind of an app on your on your device that can view pdf file files so usually it opens up automatically if it doesn't most ipads and uh iphones have ibooks which is an app to read books but also to read pdf files so you can also go into your ibooks and find your pdfs and pull it up in there and in that document that pdf that i told you on the website there's a tutorial on how to do that process on doing that so please just read through it and see if you can figure it out but if it goes beyond if it goes beyond that we are not tech experts even though we are kind of geeky sometimes and i'm a computer nerd we are not geek squad so we cannot figure out everybody's text tech situation everybody's devices and all the stuff you have on your computer or phones or tablets but we try our best we do our best so sorry so uh yeah i am not i.t certified and not not even close but we try and so i just wanted to say one thing if you ever run into something on the website or anything any website if things are not working correctly if like you're trying to delete something out of your shopping cart or something and things are not going the best thing is is you have to clear your cookies and your cache and you kind of need to do that on your phone and ipads too and tablets now i have to say if you are an apple user they are better about they don't have to do that as frequently as maybe on a pc but it's a really good rule to do that on a regular basis so i'll take your cookies those those are probably dusty cookies though dusty internet cookies yeah you don't want those cookies you do not want those cookies so um you know find somebody that knows a little bit about that if you have no idea what i'm talking about but it's always a good rule to do that so if you have any questions about this do we see any tech questions i will try my best to answer i'm not an expert at all devices okay great great so check out the faqs it might be other stuff that you maybe wondered about that we are trying to answer all right so uh we're very excited of course this is like the night before christmas tonight because retreat starts oh that was nice oh you're trying to put the names of the quilts up okay so behind me is strip in the box asteroid is on the wall and then i pulled up my little strip to be square table runner one of my favorites a little skinny runner which is in the stripology 2 book it's almost one and a half inch strips but anyways um starting at 4 pm tomorrow central time and by the way we are in daylight time now so uh we and me and mr hp will be in this room for until midday saturday yeah we literally are gonna be in here for four days uh and we hope that we all emerge on saturday victorious after a successful first virtual retreat so i um i know not all of you are doing a retreat of course but i just wanted to open it up now for any questions if you're coming to retreat i know it's last minute and maybe you have sent an email tonight or something if you have any last minute questions on retreat you can throw them out here i'm i'll do my best to answer them i saw a question pop up today that in multiple places so i thought i would address it here now those of you coming to retreat and we're wondering if you could log into your zoom on two devices so you could have maybe an ipad and a computer or a phone and a computer so unfortunately we cannot do that because we have we would have so many different log ons so one device can log on to your zoom however as i've explained and you know once ever i'm done doing the demo that demo video will be in your account on g equal to science.com so you can have zoom logged onto zoom on one device and then you can go on your computer or whatever other device and go into your account on ge designs and watch that demo over and over being logged onto zoom so you don't need to be logging on and off and switching around don't worry about that so i just want to explain that but please only log in on one zoom account otherwise your name will pop up multiple times and we'll be very confused all right oh linda's asking best press all the fabric in the kit so i recommend best pressing your fat quarters that was in the kit and i bet i recommend best pressing your background fabric which is either the light or if you have tula it's the black and then i also recommend best pressing about what i say 28 inches of the main fabric which is your floral or your lemurs and um you don't really have to best press all of it you can if you want to not a big deal if you did i just don't bother pressing all the stuff best pressing or starching the stuff that i'm using for borders but you can do both um will the lecture be available after thursday also we're going to try and figure that out so we are not 100 but we're gonna try and figure that out so uh okay any more questions on retreat everybody is excited so um so that's great so let's move on to the main topic of today and that is of course our fifth annual strip along yes five years ah don't take that off take that off they can't see it uh oh he is he is something else um anyways so first first one we did we did strip down i had that quilt hanging behind me last week that i made from that our second one was strip maize and unfortunately i already donated that quilt so i can't show it to you what i made during the strip along third one was strip in the box and that's the one hanging behind me right now from that was from 2019 2020 we did strip to shore as many of you participated in and i was gonna hang that quilt up but i realized that's at the warehouse because we quilted it over there and then of course now we have a year number five and uh if you're new to the show or new to uh watching us every year we do a strip along which is just a quilt along but it's more fun call it a strip along because we are using a pattern uh from two and a half inch strips that's made completely with two and a half inch strips sometimes there's a background sometimes there's not and sometimes there's accent fabrics sometimes there's not so most times you can use your two and a half inch strips either pull them from your collection of strips which i always do or you can use jelly rolls or you can just cut yardage you can cut five quarters do whatever you want so um if you're all ready for our fifth strip along pattern reveal well here it is um are you sure uh put up the poster not the one you just put up put up the poster the poster that amy made so proudly what um yeah it was it was two versions of it in there well [Laughter] okay so oh you don't see it can you scroll down let me see okay all right well then we'll just have to show them what you just put up but can you put it up full page oh there's going to be a little delay because we need to find the um the actual poster so amy was really proud she made this poster it's pretty funny so uh i wanted to say this particular one this particular pattern i'll talk a little bit about it and you can start trying to guess what it is and this particular pattern you can it will give you what the fabric requirements will give you is actual number of strips that you need and that is that i'm talking about full width strips but this particular one is a great one to use up like shorter pieces of two and a half inch strips like if you have some two and a half inch strip scraps from a project from a jelly roll quilt you can use some of those and you can use anything down to a two and a half inch square yes so it's a great one to really kind of use up your stuff um yeah put the wide one up this one okay now we got it are you ready here it is strip along 2021 we are going to be making strip joints and of course this is kind of uh a little bit of a strip joint [Laughter] with its own graffiti on the wall outside so just wanted to say go ahead now and tell your spouses that you'll be spending a lot of time at the strip joint in april you know you can just give a little fair warning so just say don't ask questions okay i really would love to see their reaction just humor me anyway strip joints actually was pr was uh first published 13 years ago it's a 13 year old pattern but it is a great classic so it's cool in any color way but there are some things to consider when you are putting your colors together or putting your fabrics together so first off i wanted to say that the pattern itself is available both as a pdf or as a printed pattern and it's half price right now and through april so normally it was eight dollars it's only four bucks four bucks whether you order pdf or the printed version so it the pattern has three sizes originally so it's written for crib size lap size and twin size however as a little bonus that you get doing the strip along i have created a sheet that will give you two more sizes it will give you a full size which is 80 by 96 or a queen king so it's a square 96 square however so if any of those measurements don't work for you you can always add a border to this quilt so this quilt doesn't have borders i do that for a reason because then you can kind of play with your size so at the bottom of this sheet you'll see optional border so by adding a six and a half inch border you can add 12 inches to any quilt size length and width so if you're thinking about something for quilts of valor you can always add a border you can get it to that size that they require and anything like that so also this is really based on on on the back side you will see the fabric requirements will say you need x amount of dark strips and x amount of light strips so my quilt was made with lights and dark scrappy lights and dark so i had strips and so you will get a number of darks and a number of lights however that's just a term lights and darks all that means and is there needs to be contrast between your two groups of fabric lights doesn't mean that has to be a light background that could be black it could be dark and then your other would be very colorful just make sure that there's a contrast you don't want any overlap because otherwise you will lose that block so i wanted to just show you some options or i have my quilt that i originally made here i'll put it up on the big screen so you can see it i used as you can see the light light fabrics have quite a bit of print in them some some of them have some color in them and that's okay because they are still very contrasting to all of the other prints that i used for my darks so that is very cool now i've made i've only made one two and a half inch version of this quilt but i've made three other ones um that you can find in my strobology 2 book using one and a half inch strips and so i wanted to just show you the color ways that i've used in those so i'll start with the runner that i made because i this one i wanted to be monochromatic so i just did all kinds of light prints and all kinds of almost black prints and so that will obviously create quite a bit of contrast even though the black prints or black both the black prints have a lot of light in them and the light ones have dark in them um the other next one i did i did i did actually solids for my darks and then the lights are all uh kind of low volume prints white with some black in them so there's a little bit less contrast it kind of creates this little modern uh vibe to it but it's just a different version and a different look so um the third one i wanted to show you you can also just choose two colors so do um like in this one i did the mini just greens and reds so you can totally get contrast by choosing two colors and it will create still create the contrast you know you can debate on which one is a dark and which one is the light but it doesn't really matter as long as the two groups uh contrast each other so then i went on to the goodreads quilt crew and i found a couple of more that you all have made and here's an awesome one that uses kind of those low volume lights and then reds as the alternative color so i love this version and you can see how you can still really see the blocks because the contrast is great here's another version that's really lights and then kind of blues greens love this version using boutiques so you can you can kind of pick whatever color groups you want but i wanted to tell you if you really really want to be a rebel of course you can break any rule so a rule with lights and darks you can totally break it and mix it all up if you want something like this a totally spectacular play of color and you can barely see the block you don't see the block the same way as you do when you do the contrast but it's still fun so if this is kind of your vibe then don't worry about lights and darks just throw some strips together and see what happens so it's all about kind of where you are and what you want now if you are not a scrappy person you can totally do this quilt as well so there is on the sheet that you will be able to download from and print from our blog so we always when we do an event we do a blog post so there's a blog post already with strip along 2021 it has all the links to things that you need to find find or you know learn about the strip along the dates and everything that needs to happen and you will find this and i have here uh in the middle if you want to use a single background so if you just want to do like dark strips or like light strips scrappy and you want a more calmer background you can use one fabric you could even use just two fabrics and so that will give you the yardage if you wanted to do that for any of the five sizes so just kind of think about it and you can start playing and pulling some of your scraps seeing what you have but just know it's just about that contrast if you want that that look now next week during tipsy tuesday i'm going to be showing you my fabric pull so i always go into my drawers and start playing and i've gotten i have like three ideas that i have to narrow it down and figure it out so i'll show you next tuesday what i'll be doing and i'll talk a little bit more about that contrast and the contrast that you need for within the fabrics and and maybe if you want contrast which fabrics to kind of stay away from so helpful tools throughout the strip along of course the topology rulers either the original the squared or the xl you can use any of those you can of course use regular rulers don't worry about that i am going also to be showing you a technique actually two different techniques using the point trimmers so if you have a point trimmers that is going to be uh very helpful and you get to learn some new techniques if you haven't seen what that is that is our point term is g easy point trimmers you get that on our website and so i'll be playing with that and showing you a cool way to save a little bit of fabric different technique than is used in the pattern and um which is why i wanted to mention this so i know all of us are excited and if you are going to get the pattern obviously some people can help themselves and we'll start cutting and start moving along i get it but in this case if you wanted to use one of these techniques i'm going to teach you you don't want to start cutting your strip units yet so you can gather your strips or gather your scraps but don't start chopping the strips up yet because they get chopped up into certain squares and rectangles hold off on that until that first demonstration because then you can kind of decide do i want to use this technique do you want to use that technique and go from there does that make sense are you listening um but any questions let's uh let's see what you got i see there's a lot of great comments on on the pattern choice that's exciting um oh some people already have the pattern which i totally knew that you would because it's like i said 13 years old and um okay so so many color combos are coming into your mind i get that um okay very excited very excited too many choices where do you find the info for the strip along so go to our website click on the top on the blog it's going to be a blog post about that strip along so you'll find the information there'll be a link um and you know what i completely forgot to add this link so after the show there will be a link to download this this little sheet and print it out the name of the pattern is strip joints strip joints so which you know if you really want to be technical what is our strip joint the quilt shop is our strip joint that's where we go get our strips right or maybe i have my own strip joint here right at home because i have a lot of strips so you're hanging out in my strip joint right now honey whoa yes um the pattern is no it's a single pattern only so this one is not in one of my books there is a one and a half inch strip version of this pattern in my stripology toolbook but that will only make like smaller blocks these are great big 16 inch blocks so angela has a question a great one previously had us put two one and a half inch strips together which creates a two and a half inch strip would that be a good thing you could totally do that yes so piecing two one and a half inch strips together creates a two and a half inch strip so that is just doing a little bit of pre-piecing to get even more scrappiness going on so you can totally do that should we use best pressed on fabric for the sew along um i wouldn't say that you need for this one it's pretty straight straight seams there's one diagonal seam i wouldn't worry about it it's one seam um and so it's your preference if you prefer to to do that all the time you can do that for me personally you know i pick and choose depending on what i'm sewing i'm not i'm not doing it for this one i'm going to use scrappy strips for both my lights and darks so i can't wait to figure out what i have and how big of a quilt i can make not that i can't cut up some stuff now one other thing i wanted to say so on the back of the pattern you will get the fabric requirements obviously how many strips but there's also on the bottom if you wanted to use fat quarters so we'll tell you how many fat quarters you need um for each of the sizes if you wanted to cut cut cut it from fat quarters um it does not have the for the two larger sizes that i just added so i can tell you so for example for the crib size you will need four fat quarters of each colorway eight fat quarters for the lap size of each 16 of each for the twin and for the full i believe it's it's 25 quarters for the full and then 24 for the king queen table runner you can do a table runner so it would be a 16 like the block is 16 inches but it'd be a nice you can do three blocks four blocks to hover depending on how long you want it four blocks would be uh 30 64. three blocks would be 48 right 48 so that would be cool uh this is my first trip along is all the sewing live or just a demo so it is live however it'll be during a tipsy tuesday so it'll be like a portion of this show so you can always go back and watch them just like our previous ones and and re-watch the videos and everything like that so um what's the name of the runner on my left that is stripped to be square and that is also in that stripology 2 book that i just mentioned that strip joints is out of um the one and a half inch version just know that one and a half inch version you uh yep it can be made with jelly rolls the only thing to to uh take into consideration when you're using jelly rolls jelly rolls don't always have equal number of lights and darks or equal number of colors in there so you can kind of you probably have to a little bit pick and choose from your roll depending on what kind of look you want now if you want to just sew it together uh like that last quilt to show you showed you and see what happens you can do that but i kind of recommend um kind of really picking your jelly roll apart and and deciding what to do which ones to use where so the fat quarters somebody's asking will you put the fat quarters in the blog there on there on the pattern you will need the pattern for this this sew along so you always need the pattern you cannot just follow um the videos so you'll need that and i dropped the price half price for you for all all of starting now and through all of april so uh when i buy the pattern kimberly's asking is the page for the exercises included no but you can just print it off of our blog so it'll be there after the show i forgot to put the file in but it will be there after the show so that is the bonus by participating in those sew alongs and quilt alongs i always add a little bit extra how much yardage of a singular background for lap size it is a yard and three-fourths and so another question that i got could i use one of your bundles so yes they are perfect to use for this quilt especially bundles if they are kind of two color ways or if you have lights and darks in the bundle or even if it's just all darks then you want to use that for your darks and maybe a background for your lights and so uh just so you know how many strips you get from a half yard that's seven so seven strip strips you get from a half yard so if you wanted to make um let's say the la the lap size lap size takes 24 of each so that would mean four half yards would make would be enough for the darks and four for the lights however i always recommend cut just fewer strips from each so you can get more variety i like variety when we're doing scrappy things but of course if you wanted to use just two fabrics it would be fabulous as well what's the half inch version of strip joints it's called the same it's just it within the book it's just within the book stripology too can you tell us the range of the length of strips so you you we're using as small as two and two and a half inch squares up to i believe well if you want to do this new version that i'm gonna do on nine and a half ten somewhere around there can you tell oh yeah that was the question i just answered that huh okay what rotary cutters can be used with your rulers any rotary cutters that are at least 45 millimeter blade um the only small blade like 28 millimeter ones that you can use is the martellis but you can use any type of cutter at least a 45 millimeter or 60. 28 doesn't work for most cutters just because the blade is not big enough to get through the grooves and to your fabric the only ones i don't recommend using are the cutters where you have to push down to get the blade out you want to have a cutter where you can manually pull the blade guard back and so you can cut if you have to push down everyone you're going to kind of start chipping away at your ruler is stripology mixology two different from stribology two yes it is i think i have it here stripology mixology two is that book it's um almost 90 pages the strobology and strobology two are these two this is the uh this is the one with uh strip joints oh actually yeah this is the one um and these are just just 16 page small booklets so only there's six different one and a half incher patterns in each one all of the stir patterns in these two books have a big sister which is a two and a half ish version in a single pattern so that's how they work so could we use a layer cake if the longest is ten yes you can chop up a layer cake sweet um any more questions okay let me scroll a little bit i re somebody said okay got it no cutting ahead of time this time don't if you want to learn it and then you have everything pre-cut you can't do that technique can you use a light and a dark jelly roll yes absolutely that would be perfect oh sandra just told her husband she's going to the strip club strip joint and he asked if he could come too sure uh if we already have a strip joints pattern do we need a new pattern no you don't use it's the same pattern from uh 2008 so same one use the same can we get those books on your site yes you can get any of my books any of my patterns on my website one thing i wanted to mention so if you go if you wanted the printed version of the pattern since we are starting in two weeks i actually uh if you order just the pattern you know it ships usps and just mail regular mail and sometimes those have been taken up to three weeks to certain places so i just wanted to give you that warning now if you order this with something else it probably will ship in a bigger package and it gets to you faster so that's no problem i'm just wanted to give you that little bit of a warning if you just ordered this pattern that it might take to two and a half three weeks for regular mail does flannel work yeah i believe that would work because there's only one diagonal seam and um there's not a whole lot of where seams are meeting for this this um pattern so i think it will be great i think flannel will be great how many layer cakes well that's a little bit hard i can't do that math on the fly it depends on how many pieces you can get out of it usually you can get a similar number from one layer cake um as a strip but it might be a little bit different because we chop it up so i would say go with the number of strips and that's how many ten inch squares you'll need and then have some extra okay that's always a good it's just always a great thing you always have to have some extra fabric just always have some extra fabric that's just a good good choice all right so no more questions on the strip along did we get everybody excited did somebody decide that wasn't going to do the strip along and now they're going to do it because they're not going to miss out on going to the strip joint [Laughter] it's not for two weeks yeah next week we're not we're not starting till april next week is september or march 30th so we're not starting next week next week i'm just going to talk more about the fabrics i'm going to show you my fabrics and i know you want to go to the strip club but april you have to wait till april people april is strip joints strip joints uh month all right so that's awesome i have lots of stuff uh so okay somebody's asking how much shipping costs for only the pattern so we have um flat rate shipping for domestic us domestic us is 250 anything under uh half a po half a pound no anything under like three ounces is 250 for uh a single pattern so it would be four dollars plus 250 so six so 650 total but just know it might take more than two weeks just telling you a little fair warning all right i got some great things to show you we got some new fabric of course march madness still going on fabric coming almost every day so i want to start with this another so we got some great um dear stella fabrics last friday that i showed you this manly line called uh oh what's it called again chocolate leg is hot i love their fabric line names i love them they're so unique and funny but this one is called hook line and sinker so it's a little bit of a nautical line but very of course they're unique um they're unique artwork and quirkiness i absolutely love it so it starts off with this print and so it's like sailors looking out of the um what is that called again the the the round windows on the on the boats yeah porthole is that it yeah so there uh i love that and then all the stuff there's even a mermaid swimming around and sea horses and turtles i just love it there's a there's an octopus and then we have some more of that dark blue and then we have um i love that one of these sailors is like winking at you we have this one is seahorses super cute and then we have the anchors porthole okay porthole looking through the porthole thank you um i did add a couple of basics in here just to balance it out so this is one of the one of the basics it's the dash flow um i don't remember what color that is uh one of the dash flows really great deep navy and then we have the fishies so i love this print without with the fish and the oars and then tackle and there's even a lighthouse and some fish houses we have scales kind of that geometric print with the scales and then this is another favorite print of mine it's all the seagulls they have a hat they have their hats and some of them have boots on i think all of them have boots on i just love it they have such such character seagulls with personalities um here's another basic that i added in this is a moonscape that i added in for a little bit more light blue and then we have the fish print swimming along all the all the ocean um plants we have anchors turtles they're happy fish they're all smiling i love that and then i have one of the green prints in here kind of it's a dash flow just a little bit of that light green in here so this is hook line and sinker i wanted to show you if you wanted to just make some more prints i mean this is kind of a little bit more of a manly line as well if you like just has that feel just that fun quirkiness so i wanted to show you uh the chocolate leg is hot the colorways work really well together if you wanted to throw these together for a quilt for a man they would totally work so because these are all blues and it will really work together just if you wanted to make something for a great guy in your life now if you wanted to just use this since there's only one of this kind of that sea green what i did is i pulled some one yards to get more of that green and so these are the ones i chose so i took jack's fur a little bit darker green and then the moon escape lagoon does have some of the white so that plays well together as well and the dashboard metal which is just a little bit darker green than this one and then the grunge avalanche which has a lot of blue in it but still that greenish hue to it so kind of like a jade light jade color so these were would be great if you wanted to balance it out and add more green to the bundle and if you wanted to do a pattern that needed an accent color or focus color i was looking kind of at these and i love these kind of rusty reds and if you wanted to go subtle you could do the dash flow brand if you want a little sharper the jacks rust would be a perfect addition if you wanted to go with more of the gold you know some of the sailors have yellow hats and shirts and there's gold in here everywhere especially with the seagulls then the jacks beeswax would be a great addition as like an accent if you wanted to do an accent color for like anomaly a clarissa anything like that would be great so or um sammy from the new book so that is hook line of sinker i kind of want to make a quilt out of that i love the sailors so which one would be your favorite print out of these sailors and the seagulls i mean most people don't love seagulls but when they have such character such personalities you can't not love them all right did you do any um sound effects on this did we hear seagulls i didn't oh all right well this next line oh okay this next line is a cute little line from also from dear stella i added a couple of basics to it but it's a small bundle just six pieces it's called so on so forth and uh this is just adorable all these vintage machines and beautiful things along with it i added um this light blue jacks to it too and then we have these embroidery hoops that is so cute so all these embroider hoops and scissors thread so pretty and then this one i love as well this one is um the scissors the stork scissors and actually that's a unicorn scissor if you look at it real closely i think this is a bunny or a hair so really cute and this you can mix in with anything i feel like these type of novelty prints you just kind of hang on to them look at them pet them until you find the perfect project and here's kind of a collage of all of the different sewing notions scissors thimbles pin cushions these zippers pins it's fun and then i added because there's gold throughout i added um a dash flow just to pull out all the gold so this is the six piece so on so forth and just gotta love it just gotta love this one all right this next one um just came in as well this one is a northcott line that is very abstract i should say it's called city lights so it's kind of an abstract version of like high rises is kind of the inspiration so you'll see the high rises oops kind of in there but it's very abstract so once you cut it up you don't really see them anymore but i really love the texture of these fabrics just really beautiful and so then you have all these different textures the the colorway of this line is also very very controlled so it's these grays and blues and blacks so you can also kind of see the high rises in the background here let's turn it around you can kind of see it there's they're kind of hidden in there but that's kind of what i love about this is they're it's just so subtle so it could be just very textural fabrics so blues with just a little bit of taupe thrown in there lovely gray so then we have just a basic texture and this is in the light blue another one of the larger scale textures and then we have the darker blue cross weave here's the largest texture with the black and more of the taupe and then we go into the cityscape in the darkest colorway love this very abstract and then the last one is the darkest it's it probably will read black but it has a lot of blue to it so it has a kind of a navy hue to it um and so it will appear kind of black so um i of course went playing with this and i'm really all i wanted to do with this is add to it something from the same colors because i just absolutely love it as it is of course if you wanted accent i'd probably try and pull out some of these taupes and gold honey mustard tones but as far as colors i just started and i'm going to lay them down just from the light to dark so i started with some of the light grays we'll start with this one this is the blues from uh previous the blues fabric line but it's the light blue it's just a perfect hue with all these light blues and then uh of course if you wanted a little bit of glitter the rainbow shimmer moon so if you wanted to add grays you have to make sure that they're kind of more have a lot of blue in them this one i thought worked really great this is provision so it had some of the grunge some of those topi tones as well provision stone and then this one has more blue uh there's a new bumbleberries cloud gray so then we go into the more blue colors so we have um grunge we have a grunge in there that's grunge harbor a lighter blue we have the blues blue which has a little bit darker tone to it and kind of more on this kind of denim so this is canvas blue jeans and i love this one this is uh peppermint cotton stone wash so it has a texture to it too and a little bit of sheen to it and then two darkest ones i did spectrostatic in the gunmetal and because it has the white specks it will kind of work really well and then the dash flow phantom with a gray kind of speckled through it will blend well with everything else so this uh we took a photo of all of this today so this is already on the blog in a separate blog post with all the one yards so this would be just a gorgeous one hue quilt using the lights and the darks all together or you can break them up as well so this is called city lights oh i forgot one i forgot one let me leave these on here so if you wanted to do something with um and needed a binding or something borders anything like that i thought if you wanted a stripe this one would be perfect because it's got the grays and the blacks and the taupe in here is the diagonal stripe life's recipes in the chalkboard color love that i like that one you like this one yeah that look how it changes everything we have lots of textures and then you throw in a directional one and it really kind of pops it up even though it's not different color i love that just pops it up all right so those of you that love color this might be a little bit muted for you but you know i love it so i can't i have to have it all so this next one you're gonna love if you love more color this one is from art gallery and it's um kind of taken inspiration from the andes so i wanted to just make sure i read this correctly so and they say in this line you kind of travel to western south america into it's called andina and it's influenced by the andes uniculture this uh collection was inspired by their colorful land of textiles tribal art forms and iconic landmarks so you can totally tell from this really colorful bundle i'm going to start with this print it kind of has all the colors in it so very unique floral and you'll notice it's probably because a lot of these are native plants to the andes so very very unique and then i'm gonna fold this up so this is a is a 12-piece bundle we have some of the tribal elements that we mentioned and this one kind of like tiles as well or textiles and then we have the houses the uniqueness i love this on this black background they just look so bright on here and really pop it has an awesome awesome stripe such an awesome stripe so look at this isn't this beautiful these just look like the south american blankets woven blankets and dina and dina is the name of the bundle uh and then we have our a kind of a geometric tone on tone in the reds and another geometric tribal uh pattern with a with a real bright gold and black some more of the tribal art in this piece really pretty and fun and then there is actually another directional print in here almost a stripe that we're going into more of the lighter tones so really cool this will be really cool to use and cut up play with and then we have four um low volume prints in this and i love the base color it's kind of this kind of off-white taupey color that i can just i can just envision a lot of that color being i've never been to the andes or peru or anywhere but i can just kind of kind of envision it so it's in my head i love this print just very basic and then we have more of that woven texture also a directional but it has kind of the zigzag going through it so you can once you cut that up you won't really know it not notice it as much let me pull this together and then the last one is the tribal on the light background the tribal symbols so pretty so this is andena and like i said it's got a lot of color but also a lot of great lights and so i fell in love with the two prints obviously i love this one so we have this one in the one in one yards it's called andina moonai ties so it's like little ties and then we have of course the stripe so andina vibrant frasada is also available in one yards so then i was like okay this would be a perfect one to pull in all kinds of fun color if you wanted to add some more neutral ones and i couldn't of course help myself i couldn't stop because there's so many colors in here and you can pull so many i started with the reds because it has a really distinct red in here throughout so uh this one is a very is a lot of orange in it so that this is my go-to it's the redux calypso cherry by juicy juice and then um two actually basics that are from other fabric lines recently came into the store on the go texture red and then love to knit unwind which is also that kind of cherry a little bit more orange feel to the red so my next color i chose to to pull out was a yellow because it's kind of a lonely yellow in here which you could always use that as an accent too if you wanted to pull it out and but if you wanted to add more the triangle dot bumbleberry has a little bit specks of that that color in here so that will blend very well and we have the solana thatch buttercup nice bright yellow and also from on the go the yellow texture the next one was of course all these beautiful greens so i started with thatch peacock great great connect connection here spectrostatic deepsea just a little hue darker but that's what you want you want a little hue difference and then the prisma lamer c also this is also an art gallery so it works really well with everything a little bit of that white in there or that light color in there and then i thought you know what you gotta have a little pink there's so much pink in here there's bright pink in the stripe bright pink kind of speckled through everything so i uh this one the prisma red wrote on diet wrote tonight sorry i can't read anymore um is a great addition kind of working with this one and then i added two sparkly ones of course gotta have a little sparkle the rainbow shimmer magenta and then the speckled berry so cool with all of these and so i really love it love it love it so you could always pull these out get more of the background if you want to do something with the background but i just think this would make a really gorgeous quilt especially if you are thinking of someone that um loves that part of the world that would be just a perfect connection this is actually on my bucket list is to travel there so uh the one yards we have the these two are only available in one yard this is only a bundle the rest of the fabrics all of the other ones i showed you are all one yards so that is it for our new stuff in the store i wanted to mention that we had as you could probably see on the cover page of the website we have a special on louis and irene bundles through tomorrow tomorrow is the last day to be able to order these specials louis and irene was even available for the brand new ones i think the newest one sold out really fast but it's a deep discount it's a nice price for wonderful fabric lewis and irene fabrics are just so great to work with so check that out if you're looking for some good deals it's all in our sales section so you can just go right there and um but the lewis and irene is just a temporary sale so so that will go back to full price after tomorrow all right any questions on any of these you have a live winner don't you for us oh they want to talk about the volcano so yes um right after or during our facebook um happy friday show we uh there was an eruption in iceland so this has been brewing for a really long time with lots and lots and lots of earthquakes this is actually erupting in an area of iceland southwest iceland an area that has not erupted for 800 years so people uh even the geologists was they weren't really thinking that this was going to be an eruption because all of the earthquakes had slowed down for like two three days and then boom there was an eruption but this is what we call as icelanders we call this a tourist eruption don't say don't tell because it's kind of in the middle of nowhere in that area so to even get there you have to hike for about four hours to get to it it's in a valley at the base of a mountain so it's very nicely contained it's a really small eruption compared to recent eruptions in iceland so um of course people were advised to stay out of the area and um because there's even though it's a small eruption it's very well contained and not really a threat to to roads or structures or anything like that there's gases but of course icelanders have been flocking there like it's disney world you gotta have your selfie with uh the volcanic eruption but yeah that's funny i saw a meme today on facebook that says uh we warned you you should not go near mordor if you watched the trilogies and then of course there was a photo icelander said hold my beer i have to post that i'll post that in the crew it was funny it made me chuckle yeah um so that's uh that was fun oh quinn lived in iceland when mount hekla erupted so yes montagla is i call it my mountain because i i grew up 45 minutes from the roots of heckler and so we've i've i've lived through three eruptions and that used to be kind of our sunday drive is go go watch but we wouldn't be able to get that close as the people are getting to this one uh heckler did a little more damage than this one so let's hope that it's just gonna fizzle out and not do anything more we'll see but i guess tourists are flocking to iceland right now to get to see it and get up close it's kind of interesting all right so who's our winner who's our winner okay laura truesdell congratulations laura you won a 25 gift card thank you so much for watching we uh make sure you contact us help at ge cool designs or we will hunt you down and try and get you that gift card so you can go shopping thank you thank you thank you we of course will also follow with a live question that you can answer to be entered into us to win our second gift card uh whether you're watching live or not uh and here's my question this might be hard for many of you i know it's hard for me to answer so what type of fabric print appeals to you the most so you know we have that specific print whether it's a floral a novelty a plaid stripe a tone on tone maybe is a texture or typography print maybe it's abstracts that's something when you go to the quilt shop or you're shopping online and when you hit that it's like always like a magnet so i was thinking about this one and it's hard for me because i like so many different things as you know so i probably would say if it's really unique so a unique novelty or typography i'm always a sucker for good typography prints um i'm also a sucker for great background so tone on tone right there and you know my love for plaids and stripes so that's hard i can't pick one i can't pick one but those would probably be the four top for me so we're gonna finish this off of course we have the amazing event starting tomorrow so i wanted to give you a little sneak peek we gotta toast it with our stripology retreat mugs can you see this you see this stripology retreat of course it has astrid on it everybody got this in their retreat box so say hi to mr hp they probably want to see your shirt uh it got messed up it just looks vintage yeah it's because we'll be full on in retreat mode but i am going to give you a little inside look on what what is going on at retreat so it'll be a different type of happy friday but it will be there and so
