hello [Music] i [ __ ] love monster hunter i have been playing the game since 2004 when the first one hit the ps2 and i have been hooked ever since playing every game that released in the us and some that didn't and some that eventually came to the us anyways there have been few mainline monster hunter games that i haven't played looking at you monster hunter dose but soon soon if you've been watching the channel for a while you probably know this already as i've used landscape shots for monster hunter world for the backdrop for a slew of unrelated videos but for those who are unaware i will give a brief insight as to what this series is and i do say brief as i can and will talk about monster hunter for hours if no one stops me in the early 2000s capcom put something they called the three game initiative into action making three games on the ps2 with a focus on online play with the hopes that at least one of them would sell 1 million units monster hunter was one of these games with its sister games being a little-known racing game called auto modelista and resident evil outbreak also known as resident evil the one that actually needs a remake monster hunter put you in the shoes of a hunter going on quests after a plethora of wyverns with an emphasis on preparation studying your target and methodical combat using a collection of comically huge weapons your award for hunting your target were parts of the monster you just hunted which were then fashioned into new gear allowing you to take on stronger monsters it was like a cooperative game that combined fighting games with rpgs and while it had a lukewarm reception in the us it was a massive cult hit in japan spurning capcom to make more games in the series this cult popularity eventually carried into the series biggest global hit monster hunter world which holds the spot as capcom's most sold game in their company history at almost 18 million copies needless to say i've seen and hunted a lot since the ps2 a lot of my fondest memories are tied to this series hell i literally quite literally grew up with this series i was 11 when i first played this game you know how kids watched like naruto linkin park amv videos yeah i watched monster hunter amvs in middle school we weren't playing smash i played monster hunter made my first friend in high school after moving across states because he saw me doodling a picture of the hypnotist greatsword my notebook and said oh [ __ ] you play monster hunter the whole friend group played monster hunter as the series became more and more popular when trailers for monster hunter try came out i agonizingly watched the days till the release date where we immediately jumped online and got our asses handed to us because yeah we were just rushing in the [ __ ] you know where i was when everyone was frantically calling me because my ex broke her leg at the trampoline park that's right i was hunting camellios and four ultimate but in my defense they chose the one guy known for calling you to waste your time with dumb [ __ ] to call me so like what were they expecting if they if literally anyone else like his girlfriend or anyone else would have called me i would have picked up that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it now here in 5th gen monster hunter i've met even more friends thanks to playing monster hunter world and we play all kinds of [ __ ] together now i have been playing this series for 18 years and a lot happens in 18 years so now that that tangent is out of the way what was the point of it context for later my dudes throw that in your back pocket switch gears to mini painting and building a hobby that i've only been doing for about five years now sure in the past i've built model kits before it's especially like the old like high grade gundam wing gunpla that you would just like find in walmart but after a certain point after watching gundam build fighters being introduced to this side of the hobby by the god king of cardboard ylock's armory i decided to take it more seriously model kit here an army kit and boom now i'm you know i've got my own channel while i do like other aspects of the hobby like painting and playing the thing i never get to [ __ ] do i'd say building and converting is my bread and butter the feeling of making a completely unique model is [ __ ] awesome even doubly so now that i've been working on my sculpting skills it's such a freeing feeling being able to take what's in your head and being able to reproduce it in your hand it's like 3d printing it from your mind dude it's it's like a high i love that [ __ ] switch gears again you know what i hate elves and not even in the meme way in fantasy i usually prefer having races that aren't just human but stretched in one dimension you know like i hate halflings i hate gnomes i hate elves dwarves are kind of okay you know that's it's like borderline you guys get a pass most settings just make elves like premium subscription mmo player human and that's just unbelievably boring i know a lot of influence from lord of the rings and other classic fantasy but [ __ ] off do something interesting with your elves which now ties into talking about the eldar lore wise i never cared too much about the eldar but it was like a surface level interest anyways model wise they were okay i really liked some of the wraith units but otherwise i just kind of like dark eldar more in general it was like dark eldar eldar harlequins and then inari but then while i was trying to familiarize myself with some lore surrounding the birth of slaanesh i discovered there was a fifth flavor of elf the eldar exodites these eldar fled the empire before slaanesh was born moving into desolate backwater planets to make an honest living farming corn tending cattle and riding [ __ ] dinosaurs i was hooked so i ranted about a game where you hunt dinos and ranted about elves writing dinos given that this channel puts a very big focus on combining my hobbies it really shouldn't be a shocker where this is going that's right an eldari exodite army themed on monster hunter i had originally envisioned an exodite army with like turok vibes because turack is badass but i really wanted to push the limits on my conversions and sculpting skills plus i wasn't sure if i was committed enough to the idea to go through with a video game themed army or if the base concept was just stupid then capcom released monster hunter stories 2 on the pc this is a more lighthearted rpg spin-off of the series that focuses on fighting alongside monsters that you can also ride out of combat to navigate the map and in combat for like devastating team attacks while i passed over the first game on the 3ds due to my misconceptions that it was a cheap pokemon clone playing through the second game confirmed to two things for me one was that this exodite army definitely held water and two this game is way [ __ ] better than i initially gave it credit for [ __ ] pokemon man so i decided to go through with the plan drawing extensive plans on my plan of action do i proofread this [ __ ] in short i came up with these major guidelines for the project number one every single model in this army would be a conversion or scratch build every soldier in this army will be wearing converted or scratch-built armor based on the designs found in monster hunter blending in eldar elements where they either look better or save me from a massive [ __ ] headache this army is not only a test of my abilities but i showcase both my conversion skills and my ability to merge two vastly different aesthetics together while not every model kit will be held up to the same standard you should be able to look at this army and say holy [ __ ] these are all original scopes to which i'll definitely be replying yeah boy number two the army will focus on bikes and mechanical units converted to b mounts based off of monster hunter monsters not only would an infantry focused army take even longer but i feel like the exodite dragon knights are kind of the main draw to the sub-faction so i should aim to accentuate it maybe down the line i can expand but the core of the army will be dragon knights be they bikers or tank proxies i will give myself leeway where needed for rules compatibility since this is not an army designed to be played outside of friendly casual games not that i get the [ __ ] play anyways i'm not mad what are you talking about number three all monsters and gear designs are focused on source material based or in or on or around the desert biomes monster hunter is a game with a slew of monsters found in many different biomes with the quest structure you'll be hunting in the snowy mountains in one quest then immediately the temperate forest in the next i initially wanted to focus on a snowy biome but after intense scrutiny as to what i had available to me for literal months seriously this has been my on and off secret project since like late you know early 2021 i decided to stick to the desert this does include any locale that fulfills the desert role in their respective game as explained in my army reveal trailer there are many different tribes of white variants across many different biomes so maybe down the line we could do something there but for now dry and dusty boys only side note but in monster hunter there are many races of non-humans but the most common are the wyverians who take on the settings equivalent of elves how fitting is it that the name wyverian works perfectly for this army and the most important guideline guideline number four this project is going to take a long [ __ ] time in addition to projects from my other videos taking priority due to the nature of making and putting out videos so you guys don't think i'm dead in a ditch somewhere some of these scopes can take a long time to make the philosophy in replicating these armors is to make sure the major parts of the model are present and recognizable then getting as many small details as feasibly possible that being said a lot of the major work on these models were making those major components look good when i wasn't as in-depth during the first builds some of the conversions just took a few hours but they came up to a quality i wasn't happy with in retrospect now some of the last models i completed were like on and off one week projects for a single infantry model but they are done to a standard that i can look at and say these are satisfactory and replicating the source material this army is in no rush to be completed so work will be slow but steady unless there is a huge public outcry for this army to become the main focus of the channel things will take as long as they need there are probably some more guidelines that i can't think of currently but i've done way too much talking so let's get to what i actually built now i've taught myself basic scene masking in blender which in retrospect wasn't actually that hard so i can pull off some fancy split screens now on one side you'll see the model i've made and on the other will be game footage every quarter of the source material i'll also give a brief insight into the source material that should help those unfamiliar with monster hunter get a better picture of things first off we have the first model in a uni of guardian defenders a beginning armor set made of common ores the alloy set every army needs boots on the ground and a unit of 10 guardians is a perfect choice for price and flexibility you'll notice that i'm actually using dark eldar cabal lights for these models due to their armor being comprised of segmented plate was such a common feature on a lot of monster hunter armor that it made sense to use it over the round bulbous eldar armor the alloy set is a very basic armor set usually provided to novice hunters which sets a precedent here as these are all basic troops i didn't want to give them armor from high level monsters saving those for more distinguished veteran units i've also considered adding a unit of their melee variants the storm guardians and if i do they'll try to follow the same guidelines but back to the armor which is based off of a variant that appears in 5th gen games like world and rise the left pauldron is made of two special shapes that were reused many times throughout the builds for this i made the original master out of plastic card and used blue stuff to make green stuffed copies for other models that needed it see if you can spot them as we go through the next armor set is the female chainmail set specifically from first generation due to the fact that there is a variant from third generation and yet another variant in fifth generation this model was actually one of the first i made for the unit but i didn't go as hard on it as i should have so i eventually got tired and redid it it looks much better after the revision in my opinion i was also torn as to whether to use an eldar helmet or try to sit there and model the whole chainmail helmet going on with the little goggles and everything but uh not only did i just not feel like doing that but i kind of like having the whole eldar helmet on because not only does it remind you that it is an eldar unit but it means i can also avoid painting skin tones which i hate next up is the battle set a useful armor set for novice hunters that's easy to craft and boost attack damage the most notable feature of the battle set is without a doubt the array of swords sheathed on your back this is another model that i had to revise early on while i really liked the aggressive posing i initially had created a subpar tacit and used recasted dark eldar daggers for the sword array which honestly didn't come out too great but after i recreated a more accurate tacit i swapped the daggers out for various swords for my bit box which i like a lot more next up the female ingot armor modeled by my lovely assistant miss valentine i love this mini i like the motion i managed to get in the robes and the little decorative bits on the front of the pauldron the posing and the regal armor gives this model a very big sense of authority like a proven hunter carefully overlooking the green horns she's been assigned i accidentally gave her the back bit that the infantry banner slots into so if i don't cover it up i might just make her the squad leader i think it kind of suits her the first armor set made from monsters on this list is the female renault set this strange armor set is fashioned out of scales and hide of a renai plus a smaller desert dweller known for their tendency to charge into you interrupting you while your bigger monster is trying to kill you lore wise this armor set is designed for hunters and explorers to dive deep into sand pits and while the male aesthetic does have the diving suit look to it the female armor has this very memorable teddy bear aesthetic to it and for some reason i just really i find it really funny this one was a challenge as i had to scratch build the head from scratch the first one i made was just a bit too small but i feel like the second one looks more appropriate it just really encapsulates the silliness of the armor and honestly i can't wait to see it painted next up is an iconic armor set from third generation the great jaggy armor made from the scales of the pack leader himself the great jaggi is a low threat monster that many new hunters fight as their first target when the pack gets too large and begin to harass settlements the jaggi has always been a popular armor set due to boosting attack damage early on although this armor set has been absent from 5th generation games like world and rise jaggi's cousin the great baggie is in rise and their armor set is the exact same minus the color this allowed me to use better quality models for the reference pictures i used while sculpting the model this is what we call in the industry a pro gamer move debuting in 5th generation we have the armor of puke puke a poisonous wyvern with a long elastic tongue this monster has been known to inhabit forceded areas as well engorging itself on the exotic berries found in both regions puke's armor has an aesthetic resembling a ghillie suit combined with a lightweight leather armor a very woodland ranger aesthetic for the explorer who likes to stick to cover this was a really fun sculpt especially the head which is actually a scissors of battle head with a respirator with a green stuff hood uh draped over it with the posing of the legs changed from a heavy weapons bracing pose to a more passive pose i'll have to remember to put something under his foot to give him something to stand up straight on jumping all the way back to second generation we have the armor set of everyone's favorite crab the daimyo hermitar the daimyo hermetar is a carapacean class creature a classification that uses skulls and shells of other monsters as their own shells in the daimyo's case they are normally seen wearing the skulls of aminoblos although variants have been seen wearing diablo skulls their armor is a very distinct one looking very reminiscent of a football player's protective gear or if you're across the pond american hand egg the shoulders are scratch built from green stuff and the head is repurposed from a tempest's scion helmet overall i'm pretty happy with it in general although it's missing some detail on the thighs i've always wondered what the logic was behind making football armor especially given how niche the game was back then hell the female armor is cheerleader themed to compliment it i guess someone on the early dev team just really liked football beneath the dunes of third generation lies the nibble snarf or the hapuruboka in its native tongue nibble snarf is a leviathan that resembles a salamander of sorts known for its giant mouth lined with rows of teeth while this monster has been known to prey on lesser desert monsters using its powerful jaws to crunch through shells and bone it's also a very proficient burrower and can expel blasts of sand and air from special organs on the side of its head the nibble snarf armor in particular has an aesthetic i can only call tacticool but not typical tactical as it's both military themed and covered in pouches but not tactical if that makes sense the various straps and ridges were a pain in the ass to get layered on and while i chose to use an eldar helmet just because i liked it i'm thankful i did because like with the chainmail armor it would have been a pain in the ass to get the whole face going on and in general i really wasn't in the mood to make the helmet at the time kind of hard to see here but i do like how the legs came out in general and for the last guardian exclusive to the playstation 4 we have an exception to the desert theme while the following monster does not live in the desert instead choosing to inhabit the swamps and the forests you'll quickly notice why i had to make this exception yes literal cowboy armor the great ragi is a smaller wyvern that appeared in third generation and is closely related to great jaggi the main exception is that it spews clouds of poison all of great rocky's equipment has a western cowboy theme for reasons unknown but certainly not for reasons unappreciated this was not only an exception i was almost legally required to make but also the most challenging build of the guardians as many pieces had to be made separately then attached later there was a lot of revisions i accidentally put my thumb and the green stuff that was curing you know every little problem you could have i made like three times out of all the guardians not only is this the one that had the most technical work into it it's also my favorite because obviously how many people have a monster hunter cowboy eldar mini not many i would think so that's it for today guys i hope you fight we've got two more models to look at today while the models shown so far were all troops we turn our attention to the fast attack slot where the glorious shining spears sit atop bikes or in this case noble great jaggy mounts why great jaggy mouth even though it's a low level monster well it's a bit hard to explain but in short i'm very fond of great jackie he's a very nostalgic monster for me even though at the time he debuted in monster hunter try i had already been playing for five years damn wait all of first and second gen were just five years what the [ __ ] but anyways the base of this kit are games workshops drake spa nights now i could have gone with a different mount but instead of buying an overcast figure to use as a base or hand sculpting the entire thing then making a mold and then copies and giving them different poses and generally going through a massive [ __ ] headache i figured well the box already comes with mounts ready to go why not just spruce them up a little bit and they'll look 85 to 90 percent like great jaggies and so i did for the shining spears i also tried to use armors that took advantage of the lances the unit uses and chose models that looked very nightly that being said i've only made two so i'm missing one model to make it a complete unit but these sculpts in particular took a long while by themselves so i haven't gotten to that last one yet the first shining spear i made was the armor of the flying wiring called bosarios the bosarios hides underground usually emerging to move or feast on its favorite food of valuable oars and minerals while in past games this monster was not classified as a desert monster monster hunter rise saw the monster inhabiting the sandy plains and given how much i liked the armor set i wasn't really going to argue with it in actuality besarios is the juvenile form of a first gen monster called gravios another favorite of mine known for its impossibly hard hide and the ability to shoot goddamn heat lasers the armor of bosario's features massive pauldrons and a knight of stone aesthetic it has been a favorite of mine for many years although i like the gunner variant slightly more while some parts of the model are a bit subpar to me the only way to fix those parts would be to completely scrap major portions of the model and if i keep going back to revise every little mistake i'm just not going to make progress on this so i'm just going to focus on finishing models and if i want to redo them in the future i can make more models i think the helmet in particular came out great and the large feather on the back is probably the best feather i've ever sculpted to date i also really enjoy the weaponry the shield being a repurposed storm cast shield and the lance being a scrap resin print combined with a toothpick all modified to resemble the night lance from earlier generations the face of the great jaggi isn't accurate being a modification of the cold ones of the original kit but i think with the big frills it looked enough like it to evoke the original monster the frills were actually another molded item i made which will make future signing spears a little easier to make and today's final model is based off of a low-ranking monster found in the deserts of first second and fourth generation the cefedrome is a piscine wyvern the leader of a pack of cephalos that swim underneath the sands they are pack hunters that use their large tails and fins to propel them to the air to attack with those same fins which secrete a paralyzing agent the way they swim through the sand causes a heavy earth and sand build up on their scales giving them a brown appearance when in actuality their scales are very lustrous combination of blues and purples their armor is what i can only call [ __ ] awesome fully utilizing the cleaned off scales for a very striking color i forgot to actually make scales while i was sculpting my model though so instead of scale male he's wearing a gambeson of sorts oh well while the helmet was probably the hardest part of the armor you'll notice the admittedly supreme work i put into his weapon the wrathian gun lance seeing as the leader of the shining spears can take a spear that generally does more damage i've opted to give this model my favorite gun lance design in the whole series for those unaware a gun lance is like a lance but loaded with explosives and lined with more explosives very fun but i'll always prefer my grog stick over the boomstick while i attempted to 3d print the lance and just be done with it the print just wasn't as detailed as i wanted it to be and there were a lot of damages on it during the print so instead of printing another i decided to just spruce up the one i had printed already and even though it was a pain in the ass i'm glad i did because this whole model looks downright [ __ ] awesome all right guys we're done for real this time i've droned on way too long about this project for one day hopefully it won't be too long before we see more of this army even though each model is very work intensive seeing everything laid out in front of me is just so satisfying and i'm not even done with two units at this point i don't even give a [ __ ] if it's a stupid idea i'm committed dude hopefully you guys like this project as much as i do so far if you're not subscribed please subscribe so you can see this project as it evolves otherwise i'm gonna go play some more monster hunter sun break just came out so yeah thanks for watching guys i'll catch you later you
