Growers Solution Greenhouse Construction Slideshow - Living in The Hill Country Texas - Zone 8A

hello everybody this is harold from living in the hill country and i would like to give you a slideshow presentation documenting the construction of the greenhouse the photos are in the daily chronological order in which they were taken to the best of my knowledge and may not follow the audio portion very well but i hope that you enjoy the presentation anyway i would also ask if you do leave the link in the description below alright let's get started construction of the greenhouse began in the middle of january of 2018 and was completed in mid-march of that same year the process was first to select the location we wanted the greenhouse to be this was the easy part we selected an area of land that had served as a garden area in the past but had been unattended for many years we then had to decide on the type and size of a greenhouse we wanted one that would best fit our budget and provide us enough area to accomplish our goals of having a sustainable food source after extensive research it came down to the 16 foot by 28 foot quonset greenhouse with three and a half foot roll-up sidewalls made by growers solutions i'll put a link to their website their youtube exceptional we got our order placed and the work began january 21st 2018 as you can see in the first few photos the area was well overgrown with weeds thickets thorn bushes and debris native here in the hill country of texas the first few days were spent getting the area clear of the surrounding fence t-posts landscape timbers and the old playhouse structure which is later to become a deer hunting blind from there it was a tedious process of pulling chopping and clearing the overgrowth not an easy process and if i remember right it took me about four days shortly after those days of sweat blister and scratches the ground was finally cleared of the years of overgrowth and debris at this point the ground had to be scraped and leveled i used a backhoe to get rid of the topsoil plant roots and etc just to stop any type of undergrowth after that the 2x6 treated lumber that was to be used as the outside wall floor base was put down squared up leveled and secured in place the greenhouse was delivered a couple of days later thursday the 8th of february 2018. after a couple of days delay due to my work schedule and time restraint the directions were interpreted and it was time to get started i've included the directions that were provided by the company in this presentation you'll have to pause to read them if you'd like unless you're a speed reader step one was the ground stakes the ground stake basically they were metal side posts which were spaced out as instructed and drove into the ground about three foot deep before cutting them level at the top at the desired height i opted for the 30 inch roll up sidewall instead of a 42 inch i then secured the base lumber to the post with the brackets that they provided this took a couple of days itself being one guy and all anyway from that point i put the down i from that point i put down ground cover on what was to be the floor of the greenhouse garden cloth or what some say to be weed blocker this was to help stop any possible undergrowth i had the river rock glob gravel delivered a couple of days later march 22nd 2018 and the following couple of days were spent spreading it out on the floor of the greenhouse using a bucket loader shovels and rakes then the exciting part began as i started to put the greenhouse together following the remaining instructions steps two three and four of the instructions was installing the bow assembly and the purlins the two-piece bow rafters were put together and fitted into the sides the side posts after that the center purlin was installed securing the structure then came steps five and six baseboards and end walls the two by six treated lumber sidewalls were attached to the side post for the roll up sides and then the end wall framing was installed not a difficult task just time consuming then came step seven putting the wire lock on the wire lock channel was installed on the side walls end walls and roof top ends finally the structure was ready for the plastic film installation which brings us to the last step step eight film installation the greenhouse plastic was put on the end walls first and then the roof with help from my wife two people were needed to control the plastic in the wind but it wasn't at home that difficult the plastic was secured in place by locking the wiggle wire into the wire channel then the wind strapping was put on space between the roof bows making the plastic very secure and taunt after that i installed 32 inch screen door which i purchased from one of our local lumber yards and the 50 shade cover that was purchased from grower solutions on the top to provide some protection from the texas hot summer sun all in all the completed project took me about 20 days of working in my spare time and weekends about three to four hours a day it cost roughly twenty four hundred dollars and change when all was said and done give or take a hundred or two two or more people could have easily completed the process of one to two days with the right planning organization after finishing the greenhouse i ran a water source to the inside put together temporary raised tables and added multiple planting left a link for you in the description below like i said as of today the greenhouse is only used sparingly to our due to our permanent residency location after buying a house in town time restraints and the discouragement with the difficult learning curve on greenhouse gardening in texas zone 8a as of today however my journey will begin again this fall and winter when i start using it again and
