in this video I'm going to teach you how to animate this awesome por Run Cycle after a quick introduction to gas pencil I will show you an approach for drawing animating coloring and rendering this little project for this tutorial I'm providing you the project file and elements needed to follow me along it's completely free and the link will be in my description enjoy when you open blender a little popup menu with an illustration will here I'm running the 4.0.2 version pleased to have at least the most recent version of blender to avoid differences with certain features let's create a new Tod animation scene befor hand we'll set two shortcuts go to edit preferences Kima set the space bar on tools and also take the box tab for p menu and then close it for customizing the resolution and frame go to the output panel I know animators do have their own preferences regarding the aspect of the project but for this course we will stay by default on 1920 by 1080 on 24 frame per second at First Look the interface can be very intimidating and busy to simplify it we will mostly involve between the viewport the timeline and and the side panels I suggest to start with few basic steps in the viewport if you scroll out you will see some kind of canvas you can start drawing by left clicking on it hold middle click to get in the 3D space this is how the grease pencil SCS looks like we have the grease pencil object and a camera you can find them in the outliner everything added to the scene will be listed in it for the whole lesson we will stay in camera view by pressing NAD zero or just click this little camera icon here blender works with different modes currently in draw mode I mainly use four of them object and Ed it sculp and draw this is where the Tab Key comes to the action to quickly switch through modes and the space bar to call the side tools on the cursor undo everything with contrl Z then select the draw tool over here you have access to different brushes and my favorite is the pen next to it you will find the manual menu solid stroke is the one to use for drawing [Music] lines with f you can adjust the brush size then shift f for the opacity actually keep the opacity by default and set the size on 10 pixels for correction you have the Eraser there are four type of erasers and I recommend to use the Eraser [Music] Point erase everything and let's get [Music] started let's import a reference in object mode shift a image reference locate your reference then import press s to scale up and frame the character in the image properties set the depth on back and lower a bit the opacity this is a setup for drawing over a reference in the outliner selected grease pencil object then press tab into draw mode grab the circle and make one on the same size as the head quick select it in edit mode then in scar mode set the selection mark mask on strokes and shape it with the push brush to match the face outline add another Circle for the ear then use the cutter to get rid of the extra finish the rest of the face using the curve the arc and the circle with the draw tool control left click to erase this part of the outline then trace it again with the help of the stabilized [Music] stroke this feature is an assist for controlling the lines with accuracy the face is done so next step I'm going to import a video [Music] reference press s to scale and fit it to the edges set the end frame on 10 and then play the animation the goal is to remake this animation with greas pencil once again adjust the reference next in the outliner select the grease pencil object then press tab to edit Moree with the select tool press a to select all go to the stroke menu and deactivate scale thickness match the reference with G to move and S to scale in the timeline there are two layers lines and fills and by default we drew on the lines l to avoid any confusion I rename it to head and lock it I also move up the fs layer and name it hair before tle the hair press shift ey to create blank key frame from 1 to 10 this first exercise is to trace the hair frame by frame using the draw tool and the stabilized stroke if the chicing feels offset just select it in edit and shape it with skirt head part is done let's move on to the body set the play head on frame one then click the plus sign to add a new layer this second exercise is a short introduction to the interpolation it requires at least two key frames drawn in the same Strokes order based on that build the first key frame next draw the second key frame on frame three in order to interpolate a breakdown on frame two on the same process keep building key frames on frame five 7 and 9 lastly select the first key frame shift D to duplicate and move it to frame 11 to use the interpolate tool place the play head in between two key frames then click and drag to choose a breakdown key frame or choose the instant interpolation by pressing control shift e then finish the process by deleting the last key key frame on this progress trace and complete the missing parts of the [Music] outfit [Music] Next Step add a new layer for the legs and Trace the first key frame this third exercise requires to walk around with the 3D cursor go on the viewport overlay to display it in edit mode transfer the Pivot Point from median point to 3D curo by pressing all the selection will start to rotate around it on frame two select the leg shift right click to place your 2D cursor and press R to rotate press G to move then scarp mode to shape [Music] it same task for the other leg select set the 3D cursor rotate and sculp keep repeat this process key frame by key [Music] frame the use of the band Tool can also contribute to different drawings on a specific Direction after placing the 3D cursor click and drag to the desired Direction the distance from the cursor affect the quality of the pen the closer you are the tighter the band wheel in reverse the far you are the larger the band wheel [Music] [Music] after placing the legs merge down the layer to the body merging layers allow the cutter to remove easily overlap lines this extra step demands to understand the character design through the action perform [Music] [Music] add one more layer to finish with the arms start by tracing the hands and edit them frame by frame then complete the missing parts to finalize the [Music] arms [Music] [Music] match down the arms layer to the body and review all the key frames for a final [Music] cleaner [Music] time for The Coloring let's begin by setting up the color Management in the r properties color management set the look on medium contrast next on the object properties and the visibility antique use lights basically these settings come handy for color picking with accuracy also pull a new panel and set it to image editor click on the image icon and open the original reference coloring requires to use the field tool combined with the solid fill material set the paint setting on color attribute then change the Precision on four select the head layer with the play head on the first key frame on the color indicator press e to sample then pick the skin color from the reference with the draw stroke on back activated click twice on the area to fill then deactivated this feature to color the eyebrows and eyes the particularity with the eyes is to trace a fake boundary to allow the color to be filled out left click with the fill tool to start tracing a virtual edges then continue to color without worrying about the overlay on the [Music] lines and simply use the circle for the specul [Music] highlights regarding the conflict between stroke and Fields on the same layer the solution is to reorganize the materials and set the solid stroke above the solid F on the material tab lock the solid stroke material in edit mode press a to select all the colors right click arrange send to [Music] back to color the hair select all the key frames activate the multiframe and the draw stroke on back with the color ready do a first click to activate the stroke extensions scroll to adjust then one more click to [Music] fill thanks to the multiframe all the key frames has been filled at once move the hair layer below the head layer select the head then merch down to the [Music] hair set the head layer on the top then finish coloring the body simply pick a color on the reference and fill the drawing [Music] accordingly [Music] the project is almost done match all the layer together then unlock every materials currently the Run feels OD without the body moving to fix it go to edit mode choose a key frame press a to select all and press G then Z to move the drawing on the Z axis try making the same changes in order to give the run a more natural [Music] [Music] look [Music] and voila the animation is done to push it further let's add a shadow effect in the effect tab select Shadow then set the viewport Shader on renderer to display the effect in real time feel free to tweak and play with the settings or copy mine on screen in the intention to render this project on a video format the animation needs to be extended in the modifier tab add the time offset modifier tick custom wrench option and set frame start on one and end on 10 by extending the end frame on 200 the animation will Loop 20 [Music] times go to render properties choose your output location in the format file set FFM video and under the encoding select EG 4 and finally go to render render animation and wait the process to finish if you make it till here congratulations I hope you like this tutorial and learn new things it wasn't an easy episode to build so I will greatly app appreciate it to get your feedback please to like And subscribe and until next time [Music] cheers
