hi everybody shannon and karen here with wandering at yonder today we are in grayson highlands we decided to stop here on our way back home from our week-long trip um to visit the grayson highlands because we love this area it's beautiful we've been here before and we thought wow an opportunity uh is knocking we drove right by the exit we couldn't resist right so we were like okay we we can squeeze out two or three hours here and still be okay on time for where we need to be so we were like all right we're going um so anyhow we're taking you with us [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] anyhow we were here uh in grayson highlands last year just about this very same time of year this year it's a bit warmer a little bit more muggy wasn't muggy like this when we were here last time um but it's still it's beautiful everything is still green and you can start see i see the start of some color change very faintly so fall is coming and it is much cooler up here than it is down below i think when we were on the interstate heading north it was in the 80s and we got here and it was like in the 60s so much nicer [Applause] so as many of you know here in the grayson highlands there are lots of wild ponies and we were out searching for some of them last time we were here they were up here on the wilburn ridge and so we took this path and it's beautiful right now now when we got here today it was socked in pouring down rain so we had to wait it out but yeah there you go in that gorgeous so anyhow we are going to be taking i believe this is the at right here isn't it shannon uh yeah we'll be underneath here yeah so we'll be cutting through here going up the ridge a little bit we're trying to find the ponies we haven't seen and we saw one one pony so far yeah he was off in the distant distance and he he did winnie we did hear him and he was kind of stomping around a little bit so i'm not sure what he was doing but we're going to hit it this way you can see there's the rhododendron gap trail the virginia highland horse trail right there and in front of us is the appalachian trail which takes you to several different areas rhododendron gap or mount rogers [Applause] so so so we're almost at the summit here i wanted to share this beautiful panoramic view with everyone that pretty shannon is down there getting some video of the ponies we found the ponies they're a couple miles up the path we're planning on hiking up here today but we ended up doing it because someone told us ponies were only half a mile away so here we are but this is a beautiful so [Music] they're pretty docile and you're not supposed to pet them you're not supposed to feed them i've seen people pet them and i've seen people feed them even though you're not supposed to but they are pretty docile i imagine if you mess with them too much they might get aggressive with you but i've never seen them be that way so pretty cool [Music] he's like your bags uh right so so we just happened up on some more of the wild ponies looks like there is a baby a foal of her mama over there maybe they're just raising along the side of the path here very cool how precious [Applause] so we finished the trail and as you can see we went up that way way around the a.t yeah so we've come around and just like that we're back at friend thanks everybody for joining us today as we went wandering out yonder and grayson highlands again this was a last minute decision we were heading up 81 saw the sign and we're look we were like let's go so we are on a grand adventure today so we thought we'd stop in we did about two miles in two miles out got to see the ponies beautiful views it cleared up it was pouring down rain when we got here but it turned out to be a really nice day brought back a lot of good memories yes so anyhow thanks again for wandering out yonder with us and we'll see you guys later bye you
