hi everyone this is John from the resp Me podcast and this is our review of grand blue fantasy relink so yeah after waiting at 7 years this game is finally coming out from the mobile developer uh side games and it's their first for a to console uh jrpgs um after a long development cycle the code developer Platinum Games leaving mid development this could have bit a potential disaster but Against All Odds I'm happy to report that side games delivered a really good uh and fun action RPG combining uh action RPG combat with the luch farming of something like Monster Hunter you get Grand blue fantasy relink while the structure itself is very different than a traditional jrpg um what we get here is a really fun game with a ton of replayability um that I could see myself referring to for many years to come so yeah to get into to the gam playay the beauty and calling card of grand blue is the 18 unique playable characters um they all play very differently some might click with you more than others uh depending on your play style so I recommend you try different characters until you find the one that fits your play style um the game feels like the perfect balance of depth and easy to pick up and play which will add a ton of replayability to the game um if you had your feel of one character you can just switch to a completely different character and it won't feel like you're learning a completely different game the missions themselves are pretty straightforward almost like levels um you arrive at the different areas and fight through mobs and those usually end up in a big uh boss fight these boss fights can be quite lengthy and often have phases and some have some cool set pieces the campaign will feel brisk um you'll be done with it probably in around 12 to 15 hours at most some might feel like the shorter campaign and the less emphasis on exploration would be a detriment but to me it feels like like a nice change of pace um versus the many bloated games we get these days it gives you the feeling of a No Nonsense and just right to the action type of campaign the main campaign is only playable single player but the game offers a ton of content that can be done either Solo or Co-op up to four players uh the most fun I've had with the game has been this post game it is where I feel Grand blue really shines uh playing these missions with friends is a blast the game offers challenges that will require you to work better with your team and really spend the time to properly build your characters at this point of the game you're grinding for better weapons unlocking new characters masteries and sigils um sigils boost your stats and traits um you can kind of think of them kind of like accessories um masteries are like your skill tree you gather a shareful of points between the characters um to level up your individual skill trees this is where you boost your attributes get new attacks um sigil slots and so on the full game overall was much more s find in the demo since in the demo you couldn't really see the entirety of the game playay Loop uh the game is often compared to Monster Hunter and it really does give you that addicting feeling of just one more fight because you're looking to farm for a particular weapon or sigil it really feels rewarding and I could see this game appealing to monster under fans currently waiting for the release of monster under wild without a doubt uh the best part of the game uh was the combat and I think most people will walk away from this game feeling that um it's really surprising that mobile dev's first action RPG turned out to be this good um lending a perfectly timed combo with your party never gets old I'm excited to see what side games learns from this and takes for their future games so yeah I won't spoil the story here but essentially uh the world of grand blue takes place on floating islands where people travel by Airship um you play as the sky farers who are essentially the heroes of the game um who go on multiple Island vence and solve people's problems fight Monsters of all sorts and things like that until a true threat arrives so yeah I'll get this out of the way first the main narrative was definitely my least favorite aspect of this game um and it certainly wasn't the focus I thought that this game would be a good introduction to the Grand blue universe and it kind of is but uh the adventurers already start the story knowing each other um the writing in general is not where I would like it to be uh to someone who's exposed to JRP G's and Anime uh for a long time uh the dialogues would make my eyes roll I can only imagine what it would do to someone who's not used to this stuff balancing this game and Persona 3 for example the difference in writing and narrative is quite Stark the story does however pick up fairly quickly and doesn't let up once it gets going meaning that all the story itself goes at a clip you'll be done with it in 12 to 15 hours so it's over before you know it it has a lot of cool set pieces crazy boss BS and well choreographed cutcenes the story itself is fine but it didn't quite hit like I wanted it to I thought that maybe the grand blue Universe wasn't for me until I delved into the Fate episodes um long story short the Fate episodes are a quest that gives every playable character 10 or so episodes that consist mostly of an introduction to the character with them narrating how they became members of the crew and gives them little story lines after that um you get unique missions to each characters I think some of you might be tempted to just skip right through these visual novel like scenes uh for the stab boots and sigil slot rewards you get from them but I found it to be the most interesting aspects of the game uh story-wise the character I made peral was great um felt like a strong contrast to characters like Gran Vern and Lia who are unfortunately the main characters of the game from what I've seen of the other playable characters they are much more interesting than the three I mentioned it is a real shame Grant comes off is quite generic and is silent throughout most of the game minus the voice acted lines he has when you choose a dialogue option I was surprised to see how much voice acting Gran's character had in his fade episodes and even the annoying Vern gets a little moment of shine um to talk Graphics visually uh the game simply looks great um awesome visual style incredible character animation a ton of varied environments um the majority of the environments are quite linear but some of the maps can be a bit open um but those are rare uh the game also runs great on PS5 and from my understanding PC and PS4 as well the music is also a topnotch um I would catch myself humming some of the tunes once in a while uh voice acting Wise It's a bit more mixed some of the characters can be quite aggravating um I don't know if it's the same way in Japanese but it does stand out in a bad way um it's a shame because it's not the entire cast that's like that the issue is that many of the the characters I didn't enjoy were the characters that played the biggest part of the story um and that will bring down the experience to many in conclusion uh Grand blue relink was a highly anticipated game for me and it had me worried because of the long development time but what side games did was release a really great game I recommended for people who want a fun multiplayer action RPG with a ton of replayability with them promising to add story content and new characters I could see this being a game people play for a very long time to come so yeah that's all I've got for Grand blue fantasy relink what did you think of grand blue fantasy reing put your thoughts in the comments if you like this video make sure to subscribe and stay tuned for more thanks guys [Music] bye
