Gospel of John Chapter 1 Bible Study

hi my name is Clarence and I'm pastor of United body of Christ Church please today very excited about bringing our first online Bible study here today we'll be teaching from the Gospel of st. John four Gospels in the Bible you have Matthew Mark Luke and then there's John the written Gospels are similar the Matthew Mark and Luke are very similar there are some distinct differences but not many however the Gospel of John very distinct differences those would want to teach on today now the way I teach Bible study is we'll go through and read verses and those things that I feel like like the Lord is leading me to elaborate on those are the things that will be alike there will be things that elaborate on if you don't have a Bible on again and I usually teach from the King James Version if you don't have King James no probably follow along with us with any other standards that you may have without any further ado we'll start getting into the book of John starting that chapter 1 verse 1 now you as I know in the book of John to the book of John here um I want to say this when I was growing up before I ever got into involvement before I got into ministry and growing up and going to church I've gone to churches that you know through life younger age that Bible study I think I've been in one Baptist Church where they actually talked and I'm not throwing Bible Baptist under that's actually Baptist Church actually taught the Bible but outside of that any other church that I've gone you know gone to or visited in my younger days I don't remember there ever being a true fundamental Bible study the teaching of the word of God based on first proffers first getting you an opportunity to learn the stories of the Bible also as a pastor and that's one of the things that I've always wanted to make sure that we were concrete on I believe that this one thing too preaching we need some edification but it's another thing that we have to eat and we have to cultivate the relationship with God in a way we cultivate our relationship is through prayer obedience and learning his word learning him through his word so God I thank you for the opportunity to bring this this teaching forth I pray that your spirit in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and lead and guide us father those that are on the receiving end of this teaching that it would be used to edify them allow your spirit to move through these cameras I don't care if they watch this next week next month or next year allowed that same power that's manifesting now to move through and touch them wherever they be in and whatever state of mind that they are in I'll give you the glory guy because you are worthy to be praised I I pray ye that you glorify your name through this lesson here today Oh father let us have an opportunity to experience you and your son unlike we've ever experienced before open up our understanding our minds and our spirit to the wisdom of God in His only word I give you the glory I give you the praise in the honor you are the unseen king in the name of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I pray man and not man okay let's get into the book of John the Gospel of st. John chapter 1 verse 1 goes on to say that in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God we could actually start right there if you wanted to we first of all we know that it as this starts off by saying then to begin and we're familiar with that from the book of Genesis goes on to say in the beginning was the word and if you remember when God formed or when God created the heavens and the earth the creation of it was made you've never ever read anything about what he did with his hands except when he formed man but everything else it was done by what he said it was manifested from the words of his mouth in the beginning was the word and the word was Word was with God and the Word was God obviously here it says verse 2 the same was in the beginning with God we're talking about Jesus right now John elaborates on the on the mysterious presence of Jesus that divine a one that God has with Jesus that oneness John says that the same was in the beginning with God all things were made by him and without him was not anything that was made verse four in him was life and the life was the light of men and delighteth and says and the light in verse five shine it in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not we see that today those of you that TV BAM I use be a couch potato and if you ever taken the opportunity to just channel serve there is so much darkness out there as far as even TV TV viewing once you get hooked on a program they introduce some form of Darkness and guess what if you believe you are a follower a believer a doer of the word which is you receive the Lord Jesus Christ you have that same light in you and it's hard for us to comprehend that that amount of darkness the same way is hard for darkness to comprehend light ok verse 6 there was a man sent from God whose name was John the same came for witness to bear witness of the light that all men through him might believe so basically if you remember those of you that are Bible scholars if you go back to the book of Exodus and you read about how Moses was ordained or Moses purpose was to go into Egypt to talk to Pharaoh and get him you know persuade him divinely to let God's people go he also had someone with him you know that kind of said toan God also has been that way with the prophets of before time their job was to set to tone or to make way the path for the Lord Jesus Christ and this is what John this is what John's calling is and this book don't tell you about the good relationship of John or what his what his relationship was to Christ however it talks about that any other Gospels but we know what his calling is his calling was that of a prophet being out there and putting his word and putting the baptism out there getting folk ready to receive that of the Lord Jesus Christ if you ever think about how church services are you have you know you have to praise in a worship and then you'll end up having the the messenger come forth that praise and worship gets you ready to receive Jesus that word of God amen so this is what John's calling was he was out there he says in verse 7 over 6 there was a man sent from God whose name was John verse 7 the same came for a witness to bear witness of the light that all men through him might believe he was not the light however he was sent to bear witness of the light that was his job his job guess what we're here doing we are here right now bearing witness of the light listen which is in the Lord Jesus Christ we are bearing witness of Jesus his coming actually we're waiting for him to come again so we're here bearing witness for the second coming of Christ as well as you've been able to receive him now verse 9 that was the true light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world he was in the world and the world was made by him and the world knew him not and this is Major because it says the world was made by him now he gotta gotta take this for what is worth if he was there at the beginning and we're not talking about God in a sense of God the Father what we talk about is the Lord Jesus Christ which is the son of God who was with the father at the time that all things were created to leave your heavenly habitat to come down here is major that is major and this is what John is emphasizing on that the world was made by him and wasn't anything made that was made unless it was made by him and with him so verse 11 he came unto his own and his own received him not verse 12 but as many as received him to them gave he power to be called the sons of God even to them that believe on his name I think about my mind I think about my grandparents think about my father and it's an honor to be their son and their grandson but it's a great divine honor to be able to be called the Son of God through Jesus Christ to be grafted in by adoption that is major because just like you're able to call on your parents and your grandparents imagine having to say that my dad is God and all that is divine that is that's major to be able to have a father can't nobody can't nobody trump your dad when when when parents say I'll give my kids the world God had actually did yeah I just want to take time out to acknowledge him nevertheless verse 13 which were born not of blood nor of the will of flesh nor of the will of man but of God verse 14 and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld the glory and the glory as the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth now understand this the Word was made flesh and we beheld his glory and it said that he's the only begotten of the Father here is what create his begotten vs. created marry being a virgin was impregnated with the Holy Spirit okay versus somebody like Adam being created this is somewhat of procreation here this is you know the Spirit of God coming forth and rendering you know the Lord Jesus Christ versus someone else being created uh verse 15 John bear witness of them and cried saying this is he of whom I speak he that cometh after me is preferred before me for he was before me and of his fullness have all we received in graceful grace for the law was given to Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ so the mall the law was given to Moses and some of you that don't know about scriptures what the law is is the commandments the the ritual the the ordinances that the that - Hebrews the Jews were supposed to adhere to being the the children of God themselves God has where God God as our Father based on Jesus Christ through Jesus however the children of God outside of Jesus God elect or God chosen children was to Jews the Jews okay and through them their ordinances were the adhere to were to be adhere to based on the law or based on the commandments God gave them but there were a set of ordinances that they had to follow to try to keep themselves as holy as they could be the problem is that didn't give them the relationship nor did it cultivate the relationship between them and God okay all it did was just gave them a certain a certain amount of rules to have to follow you know as being the children of God and so that failed but Jesus Christ never feels that blood mighty verse 18 no man have seen God at any time the only begotten Son which is of the bosom of the Father he hath declared them verse 19 and this is the record of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him who are thou okay you got John out here baptizing and like I said setting away for the Lord Jesus Christ to come people took offense to that because this is light in the midst of darkness preparing the way for this great light coming and they're taking offense to that so the Jews end up sending some officials to go question him to see under who or what Authority is the acting on verse 21 or verse 20 rather and he confessed and denied not but confessed I am NOT Christ they asked him are you are you are you two massages like no I'm not verse 21 and they asked him what then are called Elijah and he said I'm not art thou not the Prophet he answered no verse 22 then they said unto Him who art thou then that we may give an answer to them that sent us what says of thyself and verse 23 he says I am the voice of the one quite crying in the wilderness make straight the way of the Lord and said the prophet Isaiah so people were intimidated by the works that he was doing and in this case the works was preaching teaching and baptizing which is preparing the way of the Lord Jesus Christ so they said well we have to be able to bring an answer to those that sentence what what should we go and tell them verse 24 and they that were and they which were sent were of the Pharisees a Pharisees was a sect of people were sometimes mainly in authority or so they wanted to believe they were the keepers of the law they lived by the letters of the law basically they were the policemen of the law okay verse 25 and they asked him and said unto him why baptizes thou then if thou be not the Christ nor Elijah neither prophets John answered them saying i baptize with water but they're standing on among you and you know not he is he is the one that's coming after me is preferred before me whose shoe legend I'm not worthy to unloose these things were done in beth arabic beyond Jordan where John was baptizing the next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him and said behold the lamb of God taken away though the Lamb of God was taken away the sins of the world and this is this is he of whom I said after me cometh the man which is preferred before me for he is before me and I knew him not but that he would be made manifest to Israel therefore my coming baptized in the waters so John is saying this is the very reason why I'm out here doing what I'm doing because of him that's the Lamb of God this is the reason why I'm out here preaching and teaching that's the one that does that all the prophets of for time this is who they all spoke about this was this is he who is here now and John bear record in verse 32 saying that I saw the spirit descended from heaven like a dove and it abode upon him and I knew him not but he that sent me to baptize with water the same said unto me upon whom thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him the same as he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost so the authority that was given unto him the baptized God has God also said within that you're going to end up baptizing my son and he is identified by the spirit from heaven descending on him after you have baptized him that's the one that's my son okay verse 34 and I saw and bear record that it is the son of God verse 35 and again the next day after John stood the two of the dust and two of his disciples and looking upon Jesus I see walketh he said behold the lamb of God Jonathas came 'yes' outspoken man the Lamb of God I mean he is he's got this childlike this childlike faith he just can't help it he see the Lamb of God what would you do if you seen Jesus coming what would you say right now if God gave you God took the scales on it and gotta offer your eyes and you were able to see the supernatural and you happen to see the Lord Jesus Christ walking by what would be your reaction and John is like wow behold the man he can't help it I mean this is praise you can't help but praise amen verse 36 and looking upon Jesus I see walketh he said behold the love of God and the two disciples heard and speak and they followed Jesus he's basically two of Jesus disciples or soon-to-be disciples heard someone giving praise to the Lamb of God all this commotion they could they were compelled to follow amen verse 38 then Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them what see Cathy or can I help you I mean in today's terms can I help you they said unto Him rabbi which is to say which is being interpreted as to say master where dwellest out he said unto them come and see and they came and saw where he dwelt in abode with him that day for it was about the tenth hour now Jesus just ended up getting two other disciples here they end up following the Lord Jesus Christ but let me say something they didn't choose to follow him they were compelled to follow him because they were preordained to do so God had when he allowed Jesus to come down here and to give his life for us everything was set into motion there were already people that were picked out to a system in his ministry while he was here so in essence those of us that are believers of the Lord Jesus Christ and are called Saints before him we didn't choose him guess what he chose us and he turned just like he turned to them and said follow him he's turning to us and say follow him or follow me that's what he told his disciples he's saying that yet today amen praise God and verse 40 one of the two which heard John speak and followed him was Andrew simon Peters brother verse 41 he first findeth his own brother Simon and sentence in him we found the Messiah he's so excited we found the Messiah which has been interpreted the Christ they believed let me tell you some description says blessed are they that that that believed without having to see you don't have to make a miracle those that believe in God me coming to Christ nobody had to perform a miracle for me you didn't have to raise the dead for me to follow Christ it was this it's if you're called to do so this is what we do and so that's what that was you noted for others that's hard to believe for others you got to go beyond but those that are actually called to follow all the takers just the right time that's all it takes verse 42 so first Simon it says he first findeth his own brother Simon and said unto them we found the Messiah Messiah which has been interpreted as did Christ or the Anointed One first 42 and he voted to Jesus and when Jesus beheld him he said Wow thou art Simon the son of Jonah and thou shall be called Cephas or caphis which by interpretation a stone now this is Simon Peter that Jesus is saying this - and you see how he called him a stone later on in the scriptures we find out that when Jesus declared that we his his followers his disciples his friends he said he calls to church the people but when he when he declared it unto Peter he says upon this rock I will build my church and so you can see here with this originates from verse 43 the day following Jesus the day following Jesus will go forth into Galilee and find a Philip and sent on to him what follow me now Philip was a visalia the city of Andrew and Peter Philip findeth Nathanael and saith unto Him we found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write Jesus of Nazareth the son of Joseph I remember I told you already that the prophets of for time as he and even in the scriptures is saying even a law of Moses all that was predicated upon the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ any man verse 46 and Nathanael saith unto Him a canary can there be anything good come out of Nazareth Philip said unto him come and see now why somebody comes and says I don't want to call out any cities because I don't want to put any cities under the bus but let's just that area that has a bad neighborhood or that has a reputation that precedes them and the disappointed disciples are running towards Philip is running towards the value and said we found the Messiah we found the one that the law of Moses is talking about and he's coming from Galilee coming out of Nazareth and again and it must been a bad neighborhood because the one thing that the one response that Nathaniel has is out of Nazareth could there be anything good to come from them and it makes you wonder what kind of area was that because they didn't see they expected Christ to come from great neighborhoods or holy cathedrals or whatever that they didn't expect him to come from a lowly estate if you're thinking about the Lamb of God the great Messiah number one you don't even think about him coming out of anywhere on earth you know but this is the protocol that was set up and the Lord made it so that he would come out of one of the lowest estates that is just God is awesome amen we'll finish up on chapter one and we'll start chapter two here at another time but let's finish up 40 let's finish up chapter one here Jesus on verse 47 saw Nathanael coming to him and said unto him behold and there's relighted deed to whom there is no god that guy is for real you know no reputation of being anything wrong you you are who you are you know and verse 48 and then you said that to them once to us though me jesus answered and said unto him before that Philip called thee when I saw that I was under the fig tree I saw thee verse 49 Nathanael answered and said unto Him rabbi download the Son of God thou art the king of Israel verse 50 jesus answered and said unto him because I said it unto thee I saw the under the fig tree believe it's done thou shalt see greater things than these so Nathanael was there was a mint that was somewhat of a miracle that was performing me not to not to raising of the dead or anything to that extent but he was able to see the thing aware he was under the tree when he got the news that that the Messiah is actually here in the flesh right now and when when Jesus confirmed the fact that he knew where he was and he seen him when he first got the news he was persuaded of that but Christ was like that's nothing o donor your guns cuz that's nothing in verse 51 and he said unto Him verily verily or truly truly I say unto you hereafter you shall see heaven opened up and the angels of God is Cindy and sending upon the Son of Man praise God so when we convene we'll be starting on chapter 2 before we wrap this up I want you to do my favorite Saints there may be someone listening right now God is awesome the fact that his son would take coming can you let's go back to what happened and those of you that are familiar with Genesis let's go back to that and when Adam and Eve fail when they was disobedient in turn bringing sin into the world basically man lost his authority on the planet I mean it's of this God told him what his authority was his authority was pretty much without limits except for the tree of life and basically to have a father say I'll give you the world you know just don't touch this we end up losing that relationship with God we end up losing the inheritance of this world and the abilities thereof and until Jesus Christ it took it took him to leave his heavenly habitat to come down here and to give his life they didn't take it he gained his life that you and I can have this opportunity right now I mean can you imagine a conversation in heaven if you think about a president right now and we have Wars presidents are you don't really hear about the importing their children on the front line if they come to my kids been in harm's way I'd rather give my life than allow my children to have that so imagine that love you know I'll lay down my life for my kids but to actually give your kids to know to give your son and you know what's what's going to happen with them what they're going to do to them but to know that it is necessary for number one that man can have this alone again with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and number two to put man back into position again as true inheritors of salvation and this world especially when Christ comes that's awesome but it takes something it takes some faith that takes for us to believe this whole Bible 66 books of the Bible 27 here in the New Testament everything gets set up - have you taken have it feed yo spirit and just open up your understanding to let you know that God created you not as slaves but as children that he loves so much and this is what he's requiring just confessed out of your mouth which is the belief that he did allow his son to come and to be crucified to come and be slain for us as a sacrificial lamb of God to be resurrected and ascended up into heaven that we may have life Hereafter that's all that's required because just like God is after you right now he is chasing after you right now if he wasn't I wouldn't be here you wouldn't be watching this trust me but he's not the only one chasing after you the enemy is the one chasing after you trying to accuse you trying to keep you from giving your life those of you that have already given your life but then you have backslidden guess what he still loves you and he's made if he didn't it he you still wouldn't be a lot you wouldn't be alive from right now so if you have your Bibles handy up hopefully you still have hopefully you didn't put it away or with me the Romans 10 and 9 there may be those of us or those that are out there listening that have not that the Lord Jesus Christ and they may want to know the path dislike John was out in the wilderness putting light upon the path that it takes to get to Christ that's what we're doing now just like John was doing that's what we're doing now we're lighting a path to show you the path that it takes and making way for Jesus to come and for you to go to him Romans 10 and 9 watch this if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead guess what thou shall be saved beloved it's so much darkness out here I have newspaper clippings news from tornadoes school shootings we are the light but there is a lot of darkness out later and as the lights of God we have to make way guess what why don't you come with us and light this path auto-tuning say this prayer with me God I accept accept you and I accept your son the Lord Jesus Christ I believe that you did allow your son to come to heaven in Jesus I believe that you took up that charge I believe that you gave your life that you died and was resurrected on a third day and ascended up into heaven that we may have life ever after I believe that you're on the right hand side of your father and I believe all power and glory was given them to you now take my life my life is your life my wittle is your will do one to me come into my heart change the way that I think changed my life and hold I'm ready to follow and I'm willing to let you lead in Jesus name praise God if you said that prayer with me
