Goosenecks State Park

[Music] thank you [Music] we have nearly made it to our next spot gooseneck State Park and we're going to be headed to Natural Bridges National Monument I feel like that this is the thing that you've been the most excited about just go straight and I'll get it with the camera okay Bears ears National Monument I actually didn't realize that this was located in the Bears ears I thought it was further north I'm excited yeah this is going to be great this is the road headed into the state park I think this is the first time in the history of our travel that we haven't had a site booked ahead of time yep that's a fact No Reservations out here oh a little bit of research that I've done and recommendations is that if the campsites are full I believe they will let you pull out somewhere out of the campground area and just set up and camp now it's just hearsay but apparently that's somebody else's experience already and I think it's what ten dollars a night I believe so I believe it's 10 bucks a night completely dry they have no water I think the only thing they have here is one of the Vault toilets okay there it is and I see it looks like all the sights are might be full really we'll see we'll find out so they have a spot yep she says the further you go they don't have tables but it's first come first serve on what site that you want I'm excited this is gonna be epic epic epic looks like somebody set up selling stuff wow look at that you don't look at that you look at the road I'm looking this is gonna be awesome are you gonna go away from the people yes I'm going down further I was yes well there's no sights here but yeah so we're gonna have to pull up on the ramp for our Kodiak oh yeah it's a little it's leaning down to this side but let me show you why it's laying down Okay so because we're on the edge look at that that's ridiculous that is insane it's insane I cannot believe we got this site right here this is yeah I had to so you can see where we're at on our ramps right there and it's showing that we're one inch low on this side which is going to be if we're with one inch we're good because we put the slide out it droops it that way just a little bit about a half inch so we're good to go all right we're gonna have a long way for the stairs I might have to block the stairs here on the side all right that's all right let's get it on a hook now agreed now that we don't have the truck engine you're gonna hear how quiet it is out here are you happy very yeah very when we were doing our research this is the spot we were kind of hoping to get and see why I think we are just about all set up now with our camp look at Abby she's already over there enjoying herself what are you doing I'm coloring you're coloring yep just doing a little art show them a little bit of your art that you do it's kind of hard not to uh to do it when things look like this yeah so so check out her perspective right here yeah it's look at that not too shabby so you're going to do some more of your drawing and coloring and um so I want to kind of give you guys a little bit better shot of our campsite now that we're kind of set up and and show you everything so let's come right over here don't get too close to that edge okay let's come out here close to the edge we've got a cool fire pit right here made out of all the rocks so what I did was I bought some of this firewood from Jeremy or camp host at the last stop there this is uh I forget what it's Cedarwood but what they do the Native Americans is that they can go up on Black Mesa as what he said I believe and they can collect the uh the wood here for firewood so this is another good way to support them because they have to haul the firewood in for their guests so I went ahead and bought some from from him from the Airbnb so we'll have us some fires out here overlooking goosenecks but look at our just look at our view here this is simply amazing and you can see Monument Valley in the distance yeah it's hard to show it on the GoPro but you guys can see a few of the formations right in that area that's a Monument Valley there's campsites all along the uh the the rim of the canyon here and I haven't been all the way around to see you know how far it goes but you can you can see we've got some other campers that are setting up I just talked to our neighbors he's getting ready they're going to go ride the Valley of the Gods we're going to be doing that tomorrow and you can see I can see some cars out there so we're going to go down that way and check out the rest of the park here later on but let's go over a couple other things one of the things that we uh did to try to plan for extra water use here is I've got these guys so we got 10 gallons of water these are some collapsible water jugs that I bought off of Amazon you can just fold them up and put them away so this was going to be water that we can use out here to like rinse dishes off whatever we need some clean water for is uh what that's going to be for I also have this jug here this is six gallons of potable water that we can use in our onboard water tank if we need a little extra water but we're going to be very sparing of our water we got our first good practice in when we were at Monument Valley we just take a very short quick showers and just try to minimize our water use to prolong how much we have here to use we're going to be camping here for four days so we just got to be careful about our water consumption so a little extra there and I do not think that they have water here available they have nothing here except for some picnic tables some shade and the uh the outhouse I think I'll use our camper yep self-contained so check out the barbecue pit area that is finally a wonderful barbecue view right there and it's nice weather and it's not windy like crazy yeah it's not windy it's it's just a little Breezy we're having a little bit of a breeze come through it's very comfortable it's starting to warm up out here it is so I think today we're going to put the Pit Barrel Junior to use we're going to smoke us a whole chicken probably do some baked potatoes but we've got our our camp table set up so we can do some Camp oven cooking use our little Weber grill I think the next couple of nights we're just going to do some basic grilling on the Weber because we are going to do some excursions but it's only uh it's one o'clock here so we've got the rest of the day to enjoy we'll be able to smoke us some barbecue and it's our anniversary it is so we're going to drink some beer yeah that's right we're just good we're gonna we're gonna Grill chill and refill on our anniversary today yep today marks our four year anniversary and I couldn't have picked a better spot for us to be in completely agree I love you babe I planned it I planned it I know you did I did good you did really well there's a little more of our setup I got my this is our uh prep table I got set up so we can do our prepping out here and I think that's about it looks like another big campsite area up in there there's another Camp spot right here behind us I do expect somebody to pull in here sometime today but maybe maybe there won't be and it'll be a little more quiet here this is uh this is just spectacular really is amazing that is the San Juan River my understanding is that they're considering this three horseshoe bends here in goosenecks so you have that one one two and three right there beautiful well we're going to get back to our chilling and hanging out join our campsite we'll show you some of our uh our barbecue later on whenever we get to that and plan on burning us a little fire tonight stars are going to be great out here oh yeah oh yeah we made a little walk over to the uh just the main area where folks can park and picnic or sightsee and Abby's uh checking out how bad it is off the drop oh yep no but that's fine though yeah that would hurt but you wouldn't die you'll get stopped by something down there [Music] pretty cool huh not too shabby at all I think it's incredible that there are three yep I mean absolutely on this side that's one of the things that makes this park so unique is is the the Horseshoe figures in the in the river here and honestly I mean you have to see it from the sky I think to really see it but it's awesome the land formations here are wonderful we're excited to explore more of the area yes we are besides just this beautiful view here we're planning on taking the drive over to um I believe it's a valley of the Gods the um Moki dugway I believe yep we're going to check that out too there's also a there's several drives that we might be able to go and and go and explore while we're here and it's possible that we'll even take a drive north up to Natural Bridges National Monument I think we should I those those always end up being my favorite ones yeah the national monuments it's about one hour drive north from here you should not too bad and we can get another stamp in our book and see another national park I think we all right so this has been nice yeah we just wanted to kind of walk around and and just check out the park a little bit there's been a steady amount of people coming in yes and I think a lot of people are here just uh they're just passing through they're just stopping in they're visiting taking pictures and then they're leaving the park we've seen a lot of campers pull in and do that you know we thought they were going to Camp there but then they ended up just sitting out for a while taking their pictures and then they left yeah so not a bad idea if you're passing through but why would you not want to stay here it's incredible and it's going to be the nice the night sky it's going to be a dark you know you can see all the stars yes this is I believe it's a it's a verified dark sky Park here thank you that's what I was trying to say and they even have there's a couple signs over there that are trying to help people be aware of their lights and which ones ruin the uh the night sky which ones work better so they want you to kind of shine light down right instead of up and and unnecessarily like turn it off of course so we will not turn on our outside Kodiak lights but we got a lamp that has even red mode on it yep so we might we might uh give that yeah we got a picnic a camp lamp a light LED light we haven't even used it the first time but we got it in case we need it this has been great yeah let's walk back and we're going to start working our barbecue pretty soon you mean you're beer drinking we're gonna be your drinking we're gonna drink a beer and I'm gonna get some barbecue ready for the Pit Barrel I am working really really hard at barbecuing our meal no is that so [Laughter] I'm I'm supporting you with beer you're giving me 100 support yes so yeah you're doing a good job thank you babe all right we're going to do a I picked up this uh this whole chicken at the market and we're going to use our Pit Barrel Junior we're just going to do a smoked spatchcock style chicken and we've got two baked potatoes on there so it's a really simple chicken and potato meal tonight it's hard for me to tell that you you might just be completely in the shadows you're looking into the sunlight so it looks like it's probably going to be blowed out a little bit huh so let me come over here maybe try that side how's that maybe better a little bit better I think maybe okay it's still going but we're only we only have 24 on this battery oh yeah I got a battery in my pocket so we'll swap that out soon so I'm just I don't like to film it no you don't want to do this I don't know I don't want to see that part okay I'm going to come over here all right we're back now that the nasty stuff is over yep what kind of seasoning are you gonna use today I am going to use I'm going to use the fiesta chicken rub seasoning okay I've really come to enjoy all of the fiesta brand Seasons they're fantastic and very reasonably priced yeah these bigger ones right here it's the 11 ounce and by the way if you are traveling in the Southwest check the Walmart because they have usually have had very large Vehicles they had an entire section of all Fiesta yes everything you can think of well I was saying these are five bucks generally I think they're either five or six dollars at Academy where all of your craft barbecue Seasons or 10 to 12 dollars for the same size and they have been delicious right in your face yes it's okay I'm just getting a little bit on this side right here and we're going to flip it over and put some more on there the battery has 12 percent okay we'll make it is this one of your favorite things to cook yeah it's a it's pretty easy and it's always delicious true always delicious everything that you make is delicious so one of the things I'm going to do here we have hiccups yes see I just want to kind of you see this was on the chicken that's it's fat right there so what I'd like to do it makes it just even better I'm going to lift this skin just kind of separate it a little bit from the breast and then put that fat down inside there that's what I'm going to do that makes a lot of sense can you hold on though yep time out welcome back yep we're gonna just put a little bit of oil on the on the bird here and then we will liberally season it with our chicken rub what do you think about this campsite so far I love it it's one of our best ones isn't it this this camping that we were doing here and the last stop that we did there in Monument Valley is what I have been really excited to get to to get to experience and it has been phenomenal maybe we should uh maybe we should um you know get some side by sides and yep start doing a little bit more uh Back Country camping I would like I would like that yep all right so there's our there's our Bird right there got me don't forget the Little Crocodile cloths they're they're amazing to have especially for things like this all right so let's go ahead and uh let's go put our bird over on the Pit Barrel Junior shall we yes please it almost looks like a green screen behind you again yes it does it's so pretty that it looks fake I'm just moving these potatoes out of my way we've had those in there for about 40 minutes those usually take a little while so we'll put them back in there once I get the to get the chicken in here just like that right there oh put our potatoes back in there yep just like that right there before there we go all right smells good yep that season's good stuff so I'll start my timer over there and we'll monitor it we're gonna have us a delicious meal out here at goosenecks so we got to give Abby credit for her idea on the extra water jugs right here thank you babe we wanted to do this so we'd have a little a little extra water that works perfectly instead of using the uh the onboard water right there on the camper and then this this is some good stuff too we like this it works really good because you can just kind of spray it on whatever you want to clean and help soak it in it works really good so like for instance I want to clean our poultry shears here because salmonella is no good so we'll clean these guys real well use our sponge make sure the whole thing's clean well see ladies all you got to do is tell me it's going to be on video and your husband will clean right in front of you I'm gonna let you clean the cutting board down [Laughter] and then we'll just use a little bit of our water here the spout to turn in with the I'm trying not to use a lot of I just want to kind of like a little drip there we go how's that that's perfect you didn't use your onboard water right there a little bit right here look at that perfectly executed babe now we've got a uh washed and sanitized poultry Shear right there I'm sure you don't want to do The Cutting Board just to show me how it's done again um I thought you were going to do the cardboard you're not going to do the cutting board for me I'll do it I think you should give it a try you need to get practice at this too agreed so Abby's going for The Cutting Board cleaning oh not the easiest thing but it's not it's not I just went a little on there yeah the further you turn it around 180 degrees the more that it more water comes out you are handling that like a pro I've washed a thing or two in my day foreign sponges but that's a clean one a new one yep look at that nailed it like you know what you're doing there perfect perfect now you just you just set it somewhere and let it just air dry agreed good to go hey our barbecue is smelling good isn't it yeah we got a good girl going on over there look at that smoke so the fat from the chicken I don't even have smoke with it's just charcoal so the fat drips down onto the coals creating extra smoke there and Flava cheese we're gonna put the chicken back on this no no well later I will whenever I cut it up for us so we'll have to wash it twice it's okay I like using the blue shop towels for things like this they just they just work better and they kind of stick there so I can put it on this little this little post and it keeps the roll of paper towels there from blowing in the wind done that's all you're getting oh trash cans over here that's all you're getting out of me today no I'm just kidding job well done babe now you go back to your beer thanks and scenic view foreign just put some more of the stones up on the uh the fire pit area here that had been falling off that's it we're gonna have a fire tonight aren't we yeah I'm excited about it me too you got a beer all right we'll have to get you another beer so we got us a really nice little fire going enjoying the view in the sunset The Pit Barrel is still rolling the chicken is just about ready just want to show you guys this this shot here it did get cloudy today but the sun's going down over there looks beautiful out here and we're just we're just going to enjoy our evening so you're just gonna have to come here it's beautiful out here it is it's nice and quiet foreign foreign it's no secret that I'm
