hey folks that fix the guy here and today we'll be talking about p traps we're gonna be talking about the good we're gonna be talking about the bad and we're gonna be talking about the funky so come along let's get to fixing these are essentially all the traps that you can buy at lowe's okay every kind of trap that they had i bought with a couple of variations right you could get an inch and a quarter you can get some different ones you can get this glue trap without a clean out cap but for the most part this is everything all right let's start with this snappy trap right here or crappy trap however you want to roll with it you know remember it's supposed says it's has a smooth interior that is until you actually bend this pipe and then you get all these ridges and you're gonna have problems um i actually am a part of a plumbing forum and i've been seeing some leaks on these but these are upc and ipc approved which still blows my mind i don't know how or why maybe that's going to change this right here is an s-trap setup you can see no vent setup these are actually illegal you don't want to put that in all right this right here this is that accordion style that kind of has an extension tailpiece right you could pop that out and extend it up where you needed it to personally i wouldn't install this either all you're gonna do is get build up in here if uh inspector sees this stuff he's not gonna approve it and a lot of times you're not gonna be able to sell your home until you change this stuff out they'll usually tell you about that unless somebody's gonna waive the inspection um check these out this it blows my mind but i mean i guess it works man you know anytime you put rubber and worm clamps together like somebody just asked me about that it's it are solid like i mean solid rubber and a worm clamp is going to totally work but for a trap issue i would not do this this is definitely i don't know i guess maybe by definition because it is smooth on the inside it potentially could be code but i wouldn't chance this right it is half inch by inch and a quarter if you needed to be or you can cut it down and make it inch and a half but personally i don't know man i guess if there was a clog and you've had a clog here you might be able to break it up i mean that's one of the cool things maybe about this but i wouldn't install this either to be quite honest i don't know why they sell it this is the expensive part these two traps right here the brass set up so this is chromed brass and you can see right there this says it's 17 gauge brass and this is upc approved now if you're going to be dealing with brass traps look for that mark because if it doesn't have that mark then it's not approved all right that's uh that's means this is 17 gauge and it's a lot thicker this one right here this is 22 gauge and i can tell you the difference the weight difference here is crazy i'll be doing a comparison video on those two traps just to show you i'll do some weight i'll do some other tests but just for giggles i'll let you hear this you can hear how thin that is right a lot thicker respectively this right here you're looking at almost 40 dollars and then you're looking at almost i think 23 for that one all right if you're going to if you want metal and you have to have brass if that's your thing well then you definitely want to go with the 17 gauge all right that's what code is that's going to last you the longest you're not going to have to deal with it for a long time let's get into the abs these are abs this is abs glue trap so it's a glue trap with the actual um union on it as you can see right here you're able to take this off and you're able to clean it it comes already where you're able to put a extension piece on here or a tailpiece in here and run it straight up to your sink it comes with both inch and a half an inch and a quarter which is pretty cool and i like this setup i don't mind this for the plumbing purists out there i mean you could get this without the cleanout but the plumbing purists out there they're gonna hard pipe the drain lines underneath sinks right this is gonna be your most solid setup once you put this in you're really not gonna have an issue you'll end up putting a trap adapter on here kind of like this right here and running up to your tailpiece but for the most part you've got everything hooked up now when you need to take this off that's where the issue lies because you end up having to cut but they do make ones with these cool little clean out cap on here so you could potentially clean out what's in your trap right here or you might actually be able to run a little pistol snake up and out and down and clear your drain that way as well depending on how low that is in the cabinet though i actually like to be able to see kind of what i'm looking into so it's really not so ideal for me right but quality to me this is what i use this is pvc this is tubular pvc right this is the easiest it's going to be the most diy friendly setup you could use you really can do most of this with just a a little hacksaw or a little ginsu saw is kind of what i use and or also the little plastic tubing cutter that i use you guys have seen it if you've watched my videos i use it all the time but you kind of just cut this to length tighten it up you know i like to put a little mega lock in those joints and i really don't have a lot of problems with these they work very well and they're the most economical right so if we go through this whole setup here and you say okay this is about 15 that s trap forget it you're not even gonna use it this one right here this little you're not gonna use it but it's about eight bucks this is about forty dollars this is about twenty three i think this was around eight this right here was around six this right here i think was about seven something and this right here is less than five all right so by the time you buy your other stuff you're invested 20 bucks or so and you can put a whole underneath kitchen sink together for your drain line with metal you can do the same thing but you're gonna be investing about a hundred plus just to put your drain together in all honesty so you can pick but this is what we're looking at so if you're asking me my personal opinion i say get rid of that get rid of that get rid of that get rid of that but i wanted to show you what was out there oh and get rid of this because look at this the whole way around this there is no markings on that either i don't even know why they sell this once again something that shouldn't be there okay so now that you know what's available and what's out there now you can decide how you want to take on your project right do you want to go with the glue trap do you want to go with a snappy trap personally not my favorite but you could you could go with the flexible trap i probably wouldn't really there's better options out there okay you could go with the brass trap and brass is a great idea just make sure you go with the 17 gauge or greater right 17 gauge extra thick this right here 22 you don't want to do it make sure you buy the more expensive brass if you're gonna go metal spend the money all right and never go s s does not stand for super trap okay i really hope this video helps if you guys could please subscribe to the channel click the like button we would greatly appreciate it we're just trying to help and we hope we're doing that thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
