from fighting in locker rooms to tussling on social media even the greatest golf stars have their grudges even if I'm having a bad day you know if I just hit that one three wood into par five that was absolutely striped you know that that kind of keeps you going throughout the day um even though you might miss the shortcut or or so here are some of the most memorable feuds in golf history and we're starting with the Rivalry between two of the most disliked golfers in the PGA of course I'm talking about none other than Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson now if you've been following the sport over the last decade you know I had to include Vijay on this list and it wasn't even a difficult job considering he was beef with practically all the veterans in the sport but the juiciest drama of all happened with Mickelson during the 2005 Masters Singh exposed him leaving lengthy Spike marks on The Greens at the 12th hole officials had to step in and investigate with the American golfer getting more frustrated by the minute uh but just and maybe I shouldn't have said stuff like that I don't know but all I if I'm just looking at live golf and where we are today to where we were while nothing happened to Mickelson's Club he wasn't going to let this go that easily and later he approached Singh in the locker room after he heard him discussing the spike marks with other players what should have been a calm discussion between two professionals turned into a full-blown shouting match the New York Post called in an animated yelling fight that nearly developed into blows this is just a kind way of saying that two men got into a cat fight and even a few swear words were thrown around Mickelson offered to take the argument outside when Vijay quickly shut down and fans were denied The Showdown of the century eventually things calmed down but tensions like these never really go away with a guy like Vijay who still can't look Mickelson in the eyes but while the Fijian was picking fights with other golfers Lee Trevino had beef with the Masters like the icon he is Trevino boycotted Augusta National for three years in 1970 1971 and 1974 which no one could have imagined at the that time while he publicly said he was skipping it because he didn't play well on the course the truth eventually came out and he confirmed it was because of a disagreement with Club co-founder Cliff Roberts the two of them got into a nasty argument the first time you went there and they've never resolved things since then now I'm all for being petty but missing tournaments for three years is taking it to a whole other level it's also true that Trevino didn't like the excessive restrictions or the snobbishness he saw in Augusta and at one point he even chose to change in the parking lot rather than use the clubhouse and interact with the people there even after his return Trevino was unable to break through at Augusta despite winning all the other Majors twice each imagine being so bitter that you can't even score a hole in one at the tournament and it looks like our next golfer took a page out of Trevino's book because Patrick Reed still holds a grudge against Jordan Spieth after all these years back in 2014 the two athletes joined forces at 2014 Ryder Cup and completely dominated on the grass they put up incredible performances back to back in 2016 and 2017 but it all fell through the next year when the pair suddenly parted ways and space to take down Stenson and Rose who played three one three two years ago and this will set the trend for the team [Applause] when Reed was turned down for Relief at Bay Hill he complained saying if only his name was alongside Jordan Spieth immediately starting rumors of favoritism in the community when the Ryder Cup came around that year Reid partnered with Tiger Woods Spieth played with Justin Thomas as woods and Reed struggled losing both of his four ball matches Thomas and Spieth shined in the spotlight going 3-1-0 both players tried to be professional about the whole situation but Reed got a little too comfortable in an interview with the New York Times he blamed Jordan for not wanting to play with him and while Spieth has taken the high road Brooks kepka and Bryson dechambeau did everything but that it was triggered by a causal tweet by Katka about slow play at the Dubai Desert Classic uh just my opinion man my opinion changed that was it um you guys will never believe me but we didn't have the conversation until everything was done of course he didn't call out anybody specifically but since Bryson was already being criticized for his systematic plays it's clear who he was talking about and it only got worse for Bryson from there since other players hopped on the hate train All Eyes turned to kapka and his Unapologetic Behavior so it's no surprise that when these two were paired up in Ryder Cup everybody tuned in to watch the drama unfold it was like watching a Kardashian episode but only this time it had athletes from one of the classiest sports in the world and the clips of the two rolling their eyes and cringing at each other's names only added fuel to the fire the early 2000s were filled with feisty golf players and Tiger Woods was the feistiest of them all especially after his rivalry with Sergio Garcia considering how different these two are it's only fair that they Clash occasionally tiger was a legend in the sport who liked to keep to himself whereas Sergio was very opinionated it didn't help that the Spaniard said some pretty stupid things over the years the Rivalry between these two really took off when he confronted tiger at the 1999 PGA Championship in Medina Sergio defeated tiger at the made for TV match Battle of the Bighorn and looked a little too happy at the win at that time tiger Unleashed his entire competitive rage and for the following 15 years he consistently defeated him of course Sergio didn't really need help to fail in 2013 he made the Fried Chicken comment at the European tour players Awards dinner which didn't go over well with anyone I guess he thought being racist was the appropriate response to someone annihilating him in every tournament when asked in 2013 if they wanted to settle their differences both players responded with a resounding No so at this point it's hard to believe that their relationship will ever improve especially since Sergio never really learned how to apologize I think that there's people that you connect with and there's people that you don't and you know it's pretty much as simple as that so I think that uh you know he's he doesn't need me in his life I don't need him in mine and you know while this was the fight between two completely different personalities Paul azinger and sevi balisteros were on opposite sides of the same coin in fact in the years after the feud ended the two got really close to each other but while this was the most iconic enemies to friends Trope in the sport the two have had their fair share of arguments over the years to coach azinger to victory during the 1988 U.S open Ballesteros cheered him on in their final round pairing but at the 1989 Ryder Cup azinger pulled the unexpected move of refusing to let Ballesteros take out a scuffed ball on the second green even after being warned by Colleen Curtis Strange to be wary of gamesmanship in their singles match their relationship took a nosedive after that with Ballesteros contesting a drop azinger took out of the water on the 18th hole of that match and although azinger won one up it's safe to say the Spaniard never really got over it fate matched two players in the Opening match of the infamous Kiowa Ryder Cup in 1991. so of course we got into another dispute over a ball but this time the Americans had allegedly used two different balls illegally without paying for them it enraged the team from Spain so much that they scored their two-in-one comeback Victory their Feud solidified golf's most bitter rivalry but while it ruined the atmosphere at the Ryder Cup fans loved every second of this old school spat especially with a sarcastic comments and name-calling well there you have it these were the most memorable feuds in golf
