[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I'm given a beautiful painting that's lovely I love the harbor our harbors just fantastic night won't eat to society so it won't fit up your thighs and glutes not to even walk there's people here from all over it's okay maybe the weather wait at its best that's just Scotland for you a little bit of grain and put it down for the enthusiasm of anybody oK you've got everything on your dos that means beautiful golf courses beautiful beaches public people and the popsicle [Music] famous old castles places like a llama household we stop the Lord and scope put the any pop tonight you get a very good welcome to well I'm down on the first tee and it's quite a subdued atmosphere I'm not quite sure why maybe people have got a bit damp and don't want a Clampett Harrington's on the first he was Stewart Cink and there's plenty of people lined up in the hotel behind on the high spots to sing over this first tee this is a tour clock starting time was the honor Harrington 69 73 to 68 for him but just waiting for the players to hold out on the 18th is it always a nervous moment for the players Iver Robson but all these bits and pieces at just about ready to start [Applause] [Music] and you support Harrington polity from USA Stewart Cink and your role in that one from the right hand side of the fairway on one Harrington it's blind from down there or do you can see its big marker at the back of the green rely on the yardage done that well [Applause] make sandwiches awesome here we are now after the green harrington for a birdie but if this goes in be a few cheers I think over the next four hours few grounds as well 24 players have completed their round so far one score under 70 Mark Foster 69 couple of tire rounds ride scores in so far there's 24 players only it was 169 a couple of par 70 once 118 Alistair Forsyth at 80 sadly 84 him Sean O'Hair 79 Peter Hanson 80 so they were out in the worst of the weather now it's brightening up and I think we're in for a very very good afternoon it's entertainment you'll see a bit of everything some drama some joy sadness a couple of minutes to go anxious moments while you wait I'll carve it all looks out there we lift up see as far as I can see it's like a mirror absolutely lovely and I'm sure there'd be a lot of golf played here over the next few months people visiting Scotland coming to canoe sea not only to play this course now the course is round and around up and down the coast which are absolutely delightful plenty more inland so choucas here [Applause] says you clipping down the shop I'm just gonna punch this one forward two or three iron that sort of thing nice firm solid shot right up the middle [Applause] could not be better [Music] now if they go what lies ahead I wonder let's go join ed rapidly cheer was quiet until Sunday six islands from 179 yards and unsighted to the flag at worst find the middle of the green a little whale it'd be bad memories shots ahead sergio garcia just walked down the first fairways about to put on the first green has a three shot lead over Steve Stricker Ernie Els has birdied two of the first three holes the most significant move so far let's join our comedy team a Sergio pups long birdie chance for our championship leader Sergio Sergio Garcia Oh Mark James and Peter Alliss have taken a break same time so now Bukater and join us in the commentary box we're underway final group on the course solid starter steady than ours as good as the birthday of yesterday but level par for the round as they head off to in a second well down the second fairway there's a one bunker on the left-hand side and there's two on the right-hand side 260 hours to reach them if you hear the driver they're certainly in play and these are deep pop bunkers you go to avoid this particularly with the wet sand and driving past them is a bit of a gamble as well because the fairway narrows up so this quite a demanding teacher reasonably generous fairway but if you get it wrong you're gonna be out one of those lips and very tough yesterday who's having cries of vamos in Scottish accents second hole par four dogleg right 463 yards as avoid these bunkers quite easily but that one there might catch them out and the left-hand rough awaits one that is not shaped left-to-right long green hole today is cut 42 back five from the right a few spots are rain coming down over where we are near the 18th fairway but looks quite good over there on the second still Garcia with the driver now when the the say deep breathing is good to calm your nerves and when this guy was on the first scene the Ryder Cup singles much I'll stand a bit ten yards away from them and I actually thought he might blow me over he was taking such deep breaths and blown out and I've tried it since then it really does help they're nice big deep breaths just before you go into the shot that you two could hit it like Sergio Garcia you're shooting left it's a pure one from Sergio if it's in there might have jumped out there she is I'm not too bad not too bad they should be able to squeeze it out of there and run onto this green at the second nice open entrance to the green makes you able to play a pitch and run but socials leader remains three after the first hole cleared of Steve Stricker Richard green making quite a charge Al's a couple under and a public Huntington one to the good after three Chris DiMarco watch over him also as a bolter from that large pack which started with three under well he puts her well he challenged tiger last year at high league [Music] good break from surgery spunk on the air with her spectators was trampled the grass that's all lying within a bad angle of the flag 201 yards ball wasn't below his feet didn't come out all the flag on the second was 42 back so that's probably at six or seven arm here's a monster putt to go he's a bit excited so Joey's a bit animated in Easter just and I think just chill out and calm down a wee bit and smile McKinley and here to Ryder Cup team with fellow Irishman second to this part for for it's a chance there we see the second green think of Sergio Garcia just bending over long long putt tens on 42 yards the at the start of playing he's why under the team - see a great speed one of the hardest things to do when you convert from a short bucket to belly or long is control your distance cutting see it they're probably four feet laughs apart he looked at boards he knows people scoring well Podrick this is for birdie I'm four for two in a row he's got it oh goodness precious may had put on the handbrake thought that was there for all money back to the second Garcia for par this is imperative first challenge of the date you can see perfectly they're dead straight beautiful beautiful that's so important for hunting after that start well done Sergio I won the third fail they're very interesting short par-4 358 yards in the middle of a fairways this big clump of rough 210 yards to clear there as a bunker on the Left 230 this one down here on the right hand side 233 the players have got lots of options off the tee here they can play short of it they can actually carry over here if you lay up there you can see there's lots of divot II areas here easy to find one of those this is an interesting hole choosing the right club off the tree absolutely important get out the way that would be a tree would then they give you a headache this hole try to pick the the right Club mind you it's a lot easier Sam with the fact that they've had rain so the ball doesn't run as far on the the fairway take a look from up here 358 yards this is that big grassy mound in the middle of the fairway the cameras talking about 210 over that 233 to those bunkers on the right or you can take it to 55 to this big area here and then have a short pitch in playing as 34 on five off the right when the fairways are a lot softer it's not as difficult and no wind but a lot to think about if it was me I would tend to be more aggressive when the pens back right when depends on the front half of the green then you lay back but today I would look at a 3-wood here not go right over everything Ken as the wind change background to tip one has been all week because this this was downwind this morning well the moment is just I would say almost straight across from left to right but we're talking of a zephyr there really is nothing maybe a touch in the players face but it's next to nothing this T is the highest point on the course and if you're gonna feel in the breeze it's gonna be up there but there's virtually none but you know if you miss this fairway there's every chance you might take a 5 with a little jockey burn that runs in front of the green so getting this right is vital now Hartley twattle of the club and it's absolutely fine stay out on that look as if it was going to just trundle into a little seedy divot yes the good fortune is is right in the center of it and is a very flat divot sort of not a nice shot though when you're going over a little bit of water 127 yards pin back right so he's got to play it back a little bit in his stance and make sure he gets ball in turf because have to say there's no one better at it than him mustn't hit a heavy two skiffs yes - skips in a check Garcia four feet from the birdie take another look at this sitting right in the middle of that divot just make sure he catch the ball first and done to perfection for his chances this week not much um this may be a hair from left to right not far off dead straight if you're brave enough to hit it firm [Applause] really is stroking them well the four shot lead minutes and the momentarily they partner Stricker almost on dad on the same green Garcia fourth tea just see the bunker in the corner there just above the winds that's his line straight over the top of that easy pin today good drive another birdie chance he's in total control of this championship Garcia absolute perfection turn right to the left there you'll see the pin absolutely perfect tee shot from Sergio Garcia lovely turf flat lie he's got a hundred and twenty three yards of the pin and just look where the flag is he's looking straight up the throat of the green he couldn't have put in a better spot and to put on a little back legit and get on that you've got every chance of making a three beautiful flowers out there Ken yes many bees about today but hopefully they'll come out later on as son happens to come out Garcia hit season fairly low 123 little push forward with a pitching wedge made it a little bit more from Garcia but still has looked very solid from his opening t-shirt I think just a very slight movement from right left up the hill and the greens are just perfect a little bit of moisture on to help the ball cling to it [Applause] [Applause] well Tiger is just contemplating the watery grave that his ball is find in the bunker on the right of 11th and David bonzer from the RNA is there with them he doesn't have to drop it but he is entitled to drop it but that will be where there is no water and it'll probably be on a downslope so back to the fifth and the three word of Garcia certainly not his driver no a rather can sound lean again oh my goodness what a stance that is going to be it looks like and in earth former US Open champion twice a winner of that major [Applause] can what you make of this well you can get all sorts of trouble here if you get a tall aggressive this is for a conservative play yeah even if he were just wants to wedge it forward he could easily hit a little stream that runs ahead of about thirty yards yeah I think he's just going to try and check it out sideways releases only play without taking a huge risk let's go no way since tangible at all if you have the ball that buffer bar above your feet is you're gonna miss hit it somehow or other there's no time to be heroic just get it in the fairway take your lumps and go on from there 154 yards 99 pin on that little back ledge only four yards deep can use a slope behind the flag if he wants to well correct white but stake off the tee most likely a bogey 5 first blemish today for Garcia Podrick birdie putt on six to go to 5-under turn baby yes just the first signs of frailty from Sergio Garcia on the fifth for his part and it's not his part it is in fact his first bogey since the 11th hole in the second round a remarkable run of golf it comes to man but if he keeps other bogeys off his card he'll be fine today just to slip nearly a stumble perhaps on the way to the Claret Jug the lead is back to 2 for a moment anyway Stricker has 12 or 14 feet where for his par 4 for certain moments in a round of golf and certain moments here and around at Carnoustie where you have to produce a very very big shot indeed and staring down Hogan's Alley is one of them little toads and out of bounds down the left anxious moments but fine fine by a few yards and no stating at a possible birth date see the ball County of Sergio Garcia they have 280 arms that's a decent swiped in these conditions and yesterday as the comparison Steve Stricker ball speed 163 miles an hour Garcia 177 and the different trajectories as well both stayed above sand coming from very different clubhead speeds but the distance when Grady's taking a me arrest and we've been joined by Mark James welcome back mark Nicky Sam I'm enjoying this brush my lunch to come back and watch at Sergio's got after a reasonable start 189 yards left green just about in rain doesn't want to miss this flag on the right long and left okay you heard him surely go there get in the bunker but that's a difficult one 289 yards to go was the tough ask a lot easier shot than Garcia was probably 70 80 yards he can hit it pretty firm get some spin off it was on the fairway so just in the rough green to work worth but he is a genius mustn't get cute mercy Sam the one thing he mustn't do here is lob it in the bunker and make six in the rough he's got to love it up they're good at getting a lot of spin on these little shots but this will test him looks to be lying well opening the blade it's gonna whip the clubhead under the ball send it hurtling up woods just hope it lands pretty soft [Applause] anga career looked quite useful for a big lad oh quit little putt this is just on the crest of a hill pretty sharp downhill but a foot in front of his wall an awkward part quite quick well that stroke was not the same as all the others club that went inside moved it instead of moving with his hands he moved it with his shoulders twisted it inside a big pot coming up huge Sam absolutely huge you'll be feeling it right now we had to steady himself and because of whether the cup is cut it's in a little Valley here where the potential bottom of the cup is it's gonna get his candy there perhaps have a look at this one it's a tricky one cuz it actually breaks a bit more run down the hill up the hill maybe a little from left to right not much but tricky because shot the week so far for Garcia that's for par well that well done they wiped his feet but it went in my struggles all right good part and a solidly struck seven and has left quad Carrington this opportunity for birdie on eight he'll be annoyed with that he needs birdies Oh Garcia long iron she struck magnificently yesterday - one hour - Huns I always thought with great Tufts of seaside golf ball runs a mile when you hit it low and chasing and that's what this man does beautifully well down the grip look at the club sticking up above his left hand there leave it right we bit right that's okay so a great problem there not ideal depends on seventeen on five from the left so not ideal position in the rough he doesn't need birdies yet just parsing in live here little Hank can breaking up a bit desserts it's flown well I don't think he got a fire flier we haven't seen too many misjudgments on flyers this week with grooves they have these days usually cut through even tough seaside fescues the pressure is intense now Garcia with a three-shot lead but there's a long long way to go he'll be feeling it the place in such an animated fashion is just wondering as to for my Ryder Cup captains because he's always so up in that there's the blue view of the seventh green on the right ft just to the right of it the 13th tee they're just disappearing on the right you saying Garcia needs a cooler head than in Ryder Cup Sam I think he needs to just calm down a wee bit just now just let take things in his stride play an even keel not get the highs and the lows and just churn out some pars four or five holes and take it away down the stretch it's very excitable you know he's fantastic and Ryder Cup it's match players I think the he's also had a few shots that make him excitable he's had one on the edge of a bunker who's had a nasty short putt he hit four foot past he's had a flying lie just then which he misjudged it's all adding up that here is Garcia Ken no we didn't hear any cheese out this end of the course no not at all it's quite as a mouse what sort of where's awkward little one downslope he's little bit of fly to the Greens I have to pitch it in the fringe and it'll kick dead left on him no it's lofty no it's done well he caught a little bit behind it was never high enough to the right definitely caught grass before ball well unless he holds that his lead is down to one hasn't wasted much time looking at this one and it's chippings no one reads so Marva season ever had to hold this sort of length but too often to save his path after missing the greens but double breaker this one probably so there we have it Andres Romero one shot behind Garcia no only leads by one for clear twenty minutes ago no it's come to one and we're not even at the turn what a day ahead of us some incredible golf now Richard Green in the club has only three behind tough chronicity finish to come a nothing can happen but it's Garcia who's gotta lose it or win it [Music] straight behind this green er it's always a firmer one you saw how that one's skidded on pin back left four yards beyond or four yards to the left you're in the bunker so middle of the Greens a good shout don't see love any more than an 8-iron for Sergio not a big one of those Ken the wind looks though it's just got up quite a bit is that does it feel any different out there oh yes substantially just picked up on the seventh fairway freshening it's not done too badly just been given a weed note it says the average for the front nine today is thirty seven point two five average for the back nine is 35.56 so over par in the front nine is the average and under par on the back nine is average Padraig Harrington this is the ninth green this for birdie mister take it with him to of Sergio [Applause] he wants to come into the race is timing it perfectly no Herrington are you featured on that webpage Sam I've heard you mentioning a couple of times there are some torrents phony in the competition just looking after the public Jess that's where only employs a fantastic drive from Harrington there it sounds like he's got a bit of support oh they're having them just a few things it's funny little backfoot chip and round very fortunate to stop here that's two very iffy chips in a row and he's hardly hit any of those all week this is a crisis point for Garcia there's no doubt about it you expect things not to go your way at some point in a in a final round when you're leading but he's just hitting tour shots and poor chips too many loose shots he's simply not playing like he played for three days and that's what'll worry him he's relying on his patting he's not holding much if he doesn't hold this mark he's gonna go to or for the day you know whenever and what are the other people in contentious shooting under par it's big difference isn't it and he's got nine in ten to come which is not easy par fours come on Sergio time to regroup good stroke here and then this can turn it all around for him in both day directions little from left right drift towards the back of the green not going his way to over I know Andres Romero who would think like mentally Bush the 12th is tied for the lead Garcia Stricker has hit his tee shot right down the middle Kant Garcia thread it past the right hand bunkers writing playdate was a good break from surge or they're just come out and things though you see regrip tenth I haven't and second shot beautiful tee shot tin here tucked left always Duff did mr. Duff - well it's clawed its way close to the front edge not too bad no way he's going well a darn good break from Sergio Garcia he's cleared the two pop bunkers and come up short because he pitched in the rough of this one here which is a bit of a chasm and he's found a near perfect lie although he did catch a bit of a flyer on the seventh and this is a semi flying light but it's actually lying a bit better 190 yards and I see a very pleasant angle to the flag so a good break they'd left to right approach putt for Padraig Harrington here and that's skated on past and I wonder how Richard Greene's doing sitting in the clubhouse a moment this is reporting Harrington he's been creeping up behind the leaders I just wanna drift at the moment listen for the roar and then it is another pop drops Republic Haddington this one for power but more less valuable so does one behind Garcia and one behind Romero here is Garcia head can say good ly hundred ninety odd yards good entry to the pin from that side well it's okay nothing special by his standards this is stop the bleeding mark three boat bogeys in the last four good solid to pop power here they get into the back nine no time to steady the good ship Garcia just a little film of moisture on the screen little soggy at the front than some of the others have perhaps a fraction slower we'll do a power following book is at five seven and eight however weird he is of the exact situation out there and a lot of players are scoreboard watchers you can hear the noise around the course certainly there's so many schools around the course I would think he'd know exactly what's going on what about you Sam a hundred percent you know exactly what the score is and more important is what his scorers that's a good solid bar for serger stops the bleeding 38 to over minus seven is leaving again there's a great deal of barely suppressed excitement out here eight are an eye for Harrington pin on the back right he is so radical he'd look in his eye there that glint he's so ready for this little buzz around here but they're sort of quiet buzz 10th fairway down the right-hand side was three bunkers 250 to take those out of play so perhaps a 3-wood probably a driver to take it out of play but the problem is then if you pull it this is a killer bunker 290 yards to reach the one on the left at ferries little soft sea might just come up short but that is the bunker if they take a wood off the tee that comes into play [Applause] only has the big stick in his hands with all that danger that can explain the weights he's driven the ball well this week very well Old Earth or 3-wood would be perfect and rameen 250 to carry those bunkers to 290 for the far wall three was perfect doesn't help one 3:35 everest and going past travertine got to get the right shape on this one little bit of a fade anything drawing and he might be gobbled up by this bunker down the left-hand side I see a thundering down the middle which is face 287 yard khari but most importantly it's in the middle of the fairway and Padraig Harrington made by that stunning second shot lobs away the ball that provided the birdie and he's tied for the lead with Sergio Garcia playing great he's another young one ken how FAR's Garcia got 151 yards just a nice Pleasant 9-iron pin tucked over the steep bunkers well it should be an easy shot you made it look easy well played maybe he's got through the dodgy pass and now we'll play back from camp [Applause] they'll be famous fight under there hello darlin give us a smile great to see young folk watching the golf it's boat for all ages it's not for the faint of heart today has a long look at this one there isn't too much in it Tad's down the hill you didn't add one single cut so far that was the third for a birdie some people put single cut number two [Applause] when they start to miss Kent the will of men isn't it it was a tricky one it wasn't an easy one to read but it was a little bit of a less positive stroke we hold those out so well yesterday and at the start of the round this morning see you're tied with Harrington the breeze has come up a little bit guys out there not much but it's moved around to the southeast just only six or seven mile an hour it's just a little bit different direction again not ideal to have a long wait when you've just birdied two out of the last three holes desperate to keep his momentum going here [Applause] we'll have more of a moment really has Sergio's opened up the championship with a lot of guys in as it started off promising Li and then suddenly Jesus no becoming the Biff Harrington cracks one away and they don't come much better than that way certainly don't Peter who knows this links as well as anyone in the field did go and play Island last week Irish PGA and one there [Applause] but also tiger Sergio needs to go in missed that one at ten another good chance there right-to-left uphill he de fancied it looks astonishing performance so do tapping in today 701 leader started at 902 over today I was presented with a lovely framed photograph of my father driving off the first two here in 1937 Open Championship it's a lovely old picture interesting look at the gallery they were all wearing overcoats and trilby hats things of jade ow big moment here they murmured Maureen yes and all set up by that wonderfully glorious cut in hybrid shot from 224 yards this is an interesting part it's got a little bit of a wriggle in it almost seems to go one way and then t'other may favor right half but he has been cutting very well I'm hope I'm not putting the fluence on him I think he'll go straight out this one this or the lead looking good oh look in by such margins championships and won and loft I thought it was in I thought the place was right a little bit slower it would have dropped probably but it was a wonderful pad have another look now it's in now isn't it that that speed down dipped its knees and round and out if you lay up short of the bunkers up the right-hand side the fair was 45 yards wide which i think is the prudent play you got a narrow point whose twin yards wide but fairly soft but all hardly running at all right you Chuck no run on that one long way to go yet peanut-shaped green here at the 13th back pin position and necklace of bunkers packed ground stones and Harrington with a 7-iron else mr. green on the right found the bunker Harrington right on target perfect distance very good opportunity he's become a very good competitor this course is no pushover Ken 252 years of a bit of an upslope just the lightest breeze in the players facing Jesse to tough with a flag in the pin on the narrowest point of green so this is gonna go a little higher when you would like it to go a fairly low 3 on he likes it he heard you my wee boy he heard you you you gon do it you better like an extra candy tonight this is not too many prayers heard in this game gives you what it wants but a fine iron shot there from Garcia he's got to be wondering what has happened Harrington to join Romero the top of the board this is smooth it's a good pop there's always left to Google to the road I haven't dropped I see the village that nice to hear an honest appraisal taters and out of the way played this week Larry Harrington to stay seven and steady as a rock [Applause] should go back to 1947 when Fred Daly when the championship to Milan for northern man from Balmoral Golf Club heady days long walk back to the 14th tee the par 5 for Harrington we move over to the 12th green Stricker and Garcia Garcia first to go after that magnificent long iron from over 250 yards the very flat portion of green this had any breaks of subtle this was certainly a little down the hill possibly a little from left to right but there's not much in it [Music] not happening is it that once spewed away almost in the first four feet Angie the start of the week you said you won behind with six holes to play and you would have loved to be in that position apologize for that but will ever take - in a moment ken has been right in the thick of the action today I must say up close up close and personal now this young fella if he's going to win the championship or get in a playoff he's got to make something he's got to make something happen over these closing holes very hard to make things happen all you can do is just hit good clean straight shots keep you nerve work you've done it a thousand dollars before but nerves do come into it just little thoughts wash into your mind whoops-a-daisy I'm out of bounds well just over 180 yards he's he goes should be going for a big high fade he's willing it up there's a beautiful shot from Garcia they're starting to hit better shots played the last time well take 10 and 11 pretty well just hit control on that club that he's got in his hand adjust behaved so well over the last three days has been a bit bulky over the last couple of hours there were a lot of Irish hearts and Irish my the Irish hearts I can't even get my words right now it's getting so exciting right here Harrington wouldn't have known until the last ten yards of his walk from the tee that his ball was still above ground he's got 234 yards to go up over the spectacled bunkers if he lands over that to the front pin he might get a bounce forward got a four iron in his hand has to get it up quickly because there's a bank in front of him there's a long way for a 4-iron bounce and a hop and a skip than a jar of dough [Applause] luckily Irish he has no idea what happened there but there was a monstrous piece of good fortune Garcia if effectively is to lead by one the surah marij will make it be stirred double well-done sergio paid under one off the lead romero in trouble he won't have any idea what's going on up in front Harrington with the chance of an eagle Romero in trouble Garcia with a birdie this is one of the best finishes we've had for years there's still a lot to go on yet of that I'm convinced [Music] [Applause] Harrington for Eagle what else can happen brilliant moorings and sheer brilliance [Applause] well he's tied with this young fella but even if he holds the PUD he's got hit with the 17th he'll drop a shot and Harrington will take the lead he may be too ahead well he will be too ahead of Romero for Romero misses his bogey putt at the 17th the 71st hole the R&A ever thought of moving the Open Championship here permanently this this is a sort of thing that happens of a Sunday afternoon these tournaments are better when the courses are very playable even JB chips that's correct Peter my apologies a lot of Correspondence about people to get very irate the people call it the British oh well I can understand your point but a lot of people don't know which championship you're referring to good for the US Open the Belgian Open Championship so I'm afraid it's got to be the fact that peoples at the British Open just to identify it froak quirky folk and old timers or traditionalists it's the championship it was the first one there was no other so it was the only one that's why now Sergio landed a little soft could have used a bit of roll where for Garcia but I'm sure it can still reach into the karmis monoid here at the moment is Podrick Harrington 3-wood on 15 [Applause] exactly how you have to get it left center with a little draw fairway is antique amber wants to throw the ball to the right impressive stuff from Harrington will have the honor will drive first their final help even though it's very still that 18th drive is still thought-provoking blatantly it's one the only time it's enjoyable is once it's in you've got the ball in the fairway and it's behind you see so greens a little flatter kennen 250 hours left for Sergio iron off the tee another long iron because I flied over the spectacles not in play what could pin to get out from this range got to play for the middle of the green when he gave that an enormous welt this gone on to the fourth green which was sort of a double green monster puck back he's further away the McGinty was just moments ago at least another ten twelve yards further away Harrington perfect position off the tee here 203 yards he's growing hives a big 6-iron it's going straight at the middle of the green well I suppose he could do a poor lorry finish 3 3 but Harrington needs to know more than to plant some here he's our leader since our baby that is a super toy think of the situation of timing all the thoughts that can run through your brain box well Harrington smoker Mena's won six majors already it's the Sergio another man is trying to win his first this would be for the lead but now and he's going to have a tricky one to join Harrington we hit that second ship so hard the unbelief well it was a good hundred feet away before listen pretty well judged up the slope never going to be easy particularly with the belly putter it was very long parts of it we've been busy in your tummy buttons to wriggle about about but this little down the hill and over the first three days these were mere Bagatelle mister type de 9 under and it back in gear dinar through those stumbles on the first night well Sam we've come to actually an unbelievable time it's all been happening well that must burn as well I wasn't far away watching and I didn't want to leave it's a Miss thing it's just incredible what a finish now we see it Harrington Garcia both 9 under Romero 7 under green finish the five it looks like it's between these two [Applause] well Podrick comes to 16 now he and Garcia are three ahead of the field [Music] a shot of the championship under pressure three to go leaving me open and the problem 16 has different people over the years that was as good as it gets absolutely magnificent Sergio going with iron for position trying to avoid the bunkers down the right hand side Amy a little down the left use the slope of the fairway yes did the lights turn well we saw what happened early in the round when he had a shot into a green like a fluffy lilac that shot off went through the back of the green cost him a shot is it like a heavyweight boxing match thing is what low sorry Peter when you're taking blinds off fdt eventually you're gonna miss one it sure is a little bit more good stuff I think this is one of the best we had four years as far as insistant excitement and good play few hiccups along the way a few sad moments ding-dong there harrington de Garcia no Romero's finished richard green you can finally have a drink Richard not the play off now but what a great day great tournament well done you 64 Romero if he if if if he could have finished with a couple of fours he would have been at 9-under that might well might well have won the championship I think Sergio may have had a slight miss hit off the tees got 268 yards left to the flag just in the light rough and a long long way back although he's got a good angle to the flag so we're gonna have to see one of his extra special long irons but it's a long way to six eight but a little bit of breeze helping you would have squeezed Ronnie a little one irons in there Ken and run it up under the green Garcia's being a master with the long irons all week Sam hasn't he just it's beautiful yesterday yeah I'm down here iron off 18 which I found incredible slightly into the wind a bit cold and wet but 267 is a long way alone 50 60 yards short of the green it's all down hills he probably only have to carry it to 10 to 20 which is just a 5-iron 6-iron for him if it gets it going the right shape get it chasing down the hill and run it onto the green he's only looking for four in here he didn't see her in Tunisia at 16 we did this arena is not for the faint-hearted and by that I'm just referring to the spectators but Roland floods Podrick skaði has spoken to him constantly over the last half dozen holes keeping in relax keeping him focused moon and took a look at the scoreboard at the last Greenland for the first time saw the name of Harrington up at the top but as far as I could see projects steadfastly refused to look over that way just concentrated and what he was doing we're told that they're brothers-in-law now Podrick and his caddy sir keep it all in the family what a great moment it is when we had that wait a little bit earlier on the 12th and had a chat with Caroline Harrington and she told me she was feeling absolutely fine well I'd like to find her and I and I will really wonder how she's feeling at the moment but this of course critical for Harrington the putts going to come along the top of a little Ridge and again of course it's all pace and line it's a combination of how the player feels in the moment doesn't look far does it just really huge to take the lead [Music] well I thought it must stuffer they just rocked away when he got to the edge of the hole [Applause] a 4-iron going to carry 238 hope it skips up hello driller come on said yeah fellas shot from that farce at linear asking a tremendous about to charge one of I know the grounds pretty firm but two hundred two hundred thirty eight years of the for a nine it's asking tremendous tremendous amount well he might be leaving the door open here for Podrick Kenny has served you in that bunker front left of it stopped just short of 15 just on the way there Sam it's one of those ones with a little hump in front of it but the cameras were all around it so I think you've seen a much harder shot from the bunker just see it's a Miss just come up short you'll be a break of the day there that's with tremendously difficult bunker shot relatively easy chip a much easier job in the glass that situation well these little hybrid clips of Harrington's have served him well when he's bending down for the tea immediately and Harrington in the same position that Romero was 40 40 odd minutes ago two fours needed the mirror finished six five to hard holes even though there's very little wind takes a lot of doing little pitch I suppose about 45 yards but the first bounce is gonna be critical one or two of these greens is a little soggy so you could easy get the ball to Jaggi and come up short all alternates if you think we might do that and rip it if he gives it a bit of a dig it's not impossible they do it over the back of the green so anyone hits the surface and break a little bit from left to right perfect lie and a huge breaks and Sam said from the sands and BM a real blighter ever shot this is going to trade great touch to get inside four or five feet just slowly [Music] [Applause] just a little bit more plated nicely definitely advantage Harrington look they have that putt to stay tied for the lead but Harrington's through 16 and made his three a green shirt when Irish eyes will be smiling borac absolutely in the zone totally in control magnificent shot into 16 perfect tee shot down 17 he won the Irish championship last week decided not to play at Loch Lomond to ahead to to play triple bogeyed the 17th birdied the 18th against a playoff then went on to win [Applause] dr.nader momentum muy emocionado la cabaña haciendo location a lucky son tener que no vehicle travel either even her Navasota hinder who a movie any important a person well the truth is that they despite the bogey at the last I'm very emotional at the moment I'm thrilled with the way I've played it's a tournament that I've always looked at and wanted to play in all my life and I'm very satisfied at the moment see a slide one away missed it long long way away for three took three putts safely up the 17th needs good shot into the green just some good some good shots Jack Nick's as I said I managed to keep playing my game but they could no longer play there's now Harrington has got to play his game for another two or three shots and who knows well it's 60 years since an Irishman won the Open Championship and there would be lots of singing and dancing and Dublin and elsewhere if this fellow can pull it off he likes it distance 25 feet [Applause] yet to find the green thread daily 90 47 Hoylake my first championship I went as a callow boy with my father why can he 19047 Frank Stranahan the mighty American amateur came over brought his set of dumbbells with him we'd never seen that before rationing was still going on the championship was played at Hoylake and course was in beautiful condition there's a deep breaths Sergio Garcia one behind now tough shot through your four iron if anyone can do it he can what a moment he's down in little Dingley Dell oh good oh good shots left to the pair of them it's very nice down there though it's cut [Music] both putter it is big wind but he's no use in the valley putts at which is my iPhone for the long putter these type of putts are much harder to get a distance right we drift over to the 17th green Harrington Stewart Cink and yet again great distance control displayed by Harrington here absolutely pin-high but it has left him a tricky cross green part lots of swales lots of hollows good fun good speed 18 inches left was four you'd probably know the Garcia bogeyed 15 is a scoreboard behind this this green they won't know he's mr. green at 7:16 decided to play out not marking and moving away I think it's so he can get this over with and then concentrate on that last shot every 33 said birdie and an eagle coming home a little bit on the downslope for Sergio but going with the long putter parting through the little sort of saddle between the two pimples right and left of him up the slope and the green facing him as well it's easy to give us a real bash just where he's walking up there is a very slow bit of Fringe grass it's a tough one sorry what innocent we're so excited well India it's a tough one can it looks like it's gonna be a bit laughing come back right but the speeds the hard thing yeah yeah and the lies you said it dies he's going to die from left to right did you get to walk through there ken with all the rain this morning is it a bit spongy no it's fine when we could play any shot he liked but this is definitely the percentage shot if you take any loft the ball may dig in got to give it a good here to here [Applause] that's a good effort little bit shy Chucky shucks take you on the judge [Applause] well this is what it's all about Bunker's left bunkers right burn left on the clubhouse clock and time it pushed it Bunker's there would you believe it is it at that very hard he just lashed at that trusting his swing just pushed it right I thought was gonna run over the bridge that's only 80 yards from where Sergio Garcia was crouched looking his but well in Takata it'll be three out of the green Garcia this is a hugely important tuck now infantry [Applause] between two parts is going for for attire finish the poor one from Harrington I tried to just take it on and rip up the middle he is well up he's only got about 190 to the front where his balls gonna in the water house near that was actually that'll be an interesting place where he drops it because it landed and went backwards under the to the cart path and then into the water so just to see what happens that's actually the bridge is in front right in front of the 17th tee interesting situation as you say Harrington's ball there's a little bridge there that ball just went to bounces on it before it plopped in at the far side you can't see it was too much water in the river but Sergio waiting on the tee so the rules officials got to go out of the way he's got to hit directly over where Harrington's ball is finished can't buy this drama cacophonous tea redemption this is after the all the criticism of 1999 this is fantastic well it shows you how difficult to get a couple of fours when you really need them particular holes of this quality all the smiles are only from Sergio side I can tell you it's a lot of movement in front of Sergio here he's hitting right over Harrington's ball as people cameras spectators rules people marshals everywhere there he is on the tee there the shaft forearm bunt [Applause] that bridge on the rights of one that Arrington's board nearly got over so to wait until they'll see you in a Stricker drive and move past them and from that angle there they may have to drop at the thick rough sorry to interrupt you there of it it's keeping the angle of answer between him and the green it's thick rough on the other side of that bridge there they may not get a shot to the green what's that's what I was saying about where the ball landed naturally went back into the hazard it landed over that and then when jump the other way interesting than the gladiators meet not quite like a ratio but they're just getting closer and closer having is going to possibly be able to drop it on the fairway the ratio now he knows how he felt there's another word there's a lot of howling and hollering going on from different supporters Spanish supporters and the IRA supporters there must be 50 or 60 people on the two fairways still a lot of work to be done and that's harridan top left just walking back to his borne out him coming back over the bridge that are quite a long shot whether he'll actually be able to see all he wants to see [Applause] Garcia is got 219 yards if we have a look at ideal yardage Britta's two bunkers guarding the green cup just tight in there we look up the fairway or see how tight it is beyond the bunker I think Garcia will be playing first here extraordinary situation let's Harrington there in the little Peninsula bit over on the far side with his caddy there's a bit more to the right we find Garcia still computing what the right club is in here for Harrington he's certainly not going to be hurried 5-iron for Harrington will you take the flag when you play a little to the left safely sorry for Garcia there's a nice carry over the over the corner of the bunker has left him with a good chance trade off to get lost I was watching each other there how you can watch a go see a second you'll see a ton around to watch Harrington's now this is the shot of his life so far the crowd will tell Garcia where this one ends up just backing off once more and why wouldn't he he needs a long iron of the calibre of coal lorry here no no I miss hit that devilish strip of water has caused so much aggravation and I just saw Caroline Harrington turn away from that she probably couldn't see the finish of that ball but she heard by the crowds reaction just exactly what had happened no serger have absolutely no idea well you know that there's Irvington who knows he's made to shove him is no reaction so he knows it's not a very good one [Applause] not quite van de Velde Sam but not a million miles away from it so far well it's heading your pewter and Watson 102 three more watch around for is playing five he's got to get out and down to be banned about seven what a shame poor ik it's got that one heavy heartbreaking Federation for Podrick [Applause] the size of a smiling post that school but I can't believe what I'm saying [Applause] if it gets up and down her finish - seven one shot ahead of Romero and two behind gun not only one behind Garcia go she is eight plain 17 so he gets up and down when it's time cyan he mixed it makes six and Garcia's you have to make par unless he obviously holds that big one on 17 [Music] hold all tickets don't tear up any Bert betting slips [Applause] to unders a very popular score if McKinley hangs on that we said eight and nine of them well well well I certainly didn't think we'd see him pitch 10 or 15 yards short of the of the burn with that shot the top down there top left 18th green bottom left 18th and 17th on the right he said where all the dramas unfolding at the moment Garcia long plat for a three [Applause] he's promising slightly be a bit absolutely delighted with that so unless porec chips in at last is gonna be one shot clear on the last day at least Sergio Garcia buddy he's three-putted from long long way at the 15th he's just the last fuels birdie birdie bogey tar par-3 the 16th for at the 17th and he will also go to the 18th only requiring a fall for much glory well Podrick took six here on Friday and I wonder now if there's time for one more last little bit of magic first shot coming up twice in the water night the language of shots continues if you can dump that in Sergio Garcia needs a for a loss to be the Open champion what drama [Applause] ten o'clock this morning all these people thought although they're going to do today was get drowned and cold what this thing is a fantastic and exciting finish to this Open Championship this is as good as we've seen when for many a year sustained brilliance excitement sérgio moving towards the final tea will we have extra holes as we did in 99 full hold clay after that happens one 16 17 18 should that happen first 16 17 18 whatever happens they will play all those holes if there's a tie se6 [Applause] [Music] sérgio still has to play the final hole [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I still love you steady down you might have to go for more holes femtocell just do [Applause] and we see it like those two tremendous iron shots he hit down the last hole here yesterday [Applause] due to the recorders office cards are checked things go silent Oh Joe out with an iron blade oh yes they were a couple of two irons but bit of breeze into the players face because his water left and right and by hitting an iron off at ease leaving himself an awful lot of work with his second shot would you think lads we're almost speechless up here can we thought we'd we've seen enough with dear Jean Val develop but afford to win the chant how often have we all dreamed of this to win the chariot now a 4-2 win the championship Josie delay it's a good start [Applause] yellow spot there he's got 222 the front edge pizza 242 it's a big shot he's 25 run 245 to the hole from that spot sir Oh way to go 210 to carry the water we want to get it a little more airborne that he did that one well whatever happens now we're gonna have a European winner which is something a lot of us have been dreaming about for long but at the moment it's all up to this man here will it be the Spaniards day what a moment was her father Victor he'll be swishing about there oh they're somewhere with a club in his hand very very excited in the moment Garcia the old graver can't start his work yet long letters in for it Harrington morning Sergio Garcia have it ready for the presentation that always amazes me Oh right into the arena they gaze he was up by four he was down by two now he's up by one surgery we'll have to wait a minute or two before the green clears we see what happens he's really don't connect with this second you don't get it airborne seen it two or three balls finish in the burn in front of the green one stop short this is a big iron beginning for a par this to finish at 2-under make eight players side 200 this goes in he shots dropped over the last few holes of very expensive and 39 begin Lee had a few misfortunes on the outward nine dropped a shot at tenth and he's going to drop they won here in the final home and she goes [Applause] they clear they clear away Sergio will be the first to play they is quite a big target if you if you were expensive and think that has plenty of room up there I can hit that green I've done it millions of times just need one good clean straight well the wind is right-to-left maybe a fraction helping not much 251 yards ball a little bit above his feet and he's got a three iron and the outer bounds is always there you think oh well don't hook it don't pull it down the left and particularly the ball above the feet easy to do that it's a huge shot for three iron I it's enormous in the window that is virtually straight across a few deep breaths concentrate the mind we've sort of got to decide whether you gonna draw it in and use the breeze or just try and hold their french and into the breeze it can't afford to hold it too much ever gonna reach one straight fizzer do the job they wouldn't remember Tom Watson 83 at Birkdale to iron middle of the green to punched women family await [Applause] cheer there was the bunker raker after head they've done a super job here this week the boys and now here we go are the bull and matador approaches stand back Stoney Dana he's not shouting well guess what Peter the drama continues where's ecology gonna banca well he's over the water oh he's in the bunker why does this boy give me so much aggravation not bad lie but it's a steep Bank and it's quite a lousy 25 yards or more from the whole lousy Wayne it Flags 25 on so it's not well you'd still like the chance but you'd like to be putting Steve Stricker second 18 he likes the look of it I wouldn't Garcia light to laser Ripa when you just have a slight miss kid but it has to be said Garcia is one of the very best bunker players well it was some great moments we've talked all week about his part of Peter and how much better he's been with that belly putter it might all come down to a four or five footer with a new putter it's gonna have to hit the exceptional bunker shots is not going to be down to four or five footer Zach Johnson the Masters have to chip from right in the green two women are supposed to go after them to check that stone day Josie would love to do listen to a classroom [Applause] eight years ago we've here in 1990 finished dead last the first two rounds two shots away from being first because we mustn't forget should he not get down into and but take three there will be a playoff and they will play the first 16 17 18 and that the scores is one beached either he will be the champion if not they'll go understand again and the first to win a whole is the champion well you can see there's a steep Bank it's not lying too badly but this is fairly heavy sand there we go [Applause] [Music] it's still one of those what a great pop Herrington hold at four-foot knee rather than that one but as Peter said the earliest things you dream for to win the open hand now a 10-footer to win the old well you dream it a forfeit event if you ever have the jobs to get one you wish it was to foot the forefoot or two inches this is not an easy putt if funny little line from this side to seen a lot of putts miss down the left-hand side and others just drift right it's quick as well Peter they can't be aggressive on him because he it he has the two part to play off memory chief Goosen Steve Stricker I'm just wanting to get out of the way throw you over for his round today Stricker started 6-under this to get to 4-under though which would give him a really good high finish surely hold it No well the whole Patrick's watching television and not waiting for the roar I think he'll nudge that in finishes at 3-under that was in a tie with KJ Choi and Mike Weir 74 today [Applause] just the one birdie level missed opportunities in the first over the first nine holes this is it this to be champion [Music] [Applause] it's a playoff it's not over yet all right I've just gotta tap this in it was a beautiful pop Peter wasn't it looked like it was in all the way just the right turn but he just kept going for home playoff it is [Applause] and just gather your thoughts he will be perhaps a little bit more a little of different mindset to Harrington Harrington must must could feel well I'm a little bit fortunate to be in this version Garcia if he goes to the playoff thinking I lost it it's got to start all over again for four holes he's he's got to gather himself again now Peter have another look at this putt it looks all for all money it's got to go right there starts to it was a good taste to it didn't didn't flush it through the break it just didn't take it but he's got to gather himself Mary can't keep dwelling on that he's got to go back disappointed to be there well the last time they played the four holes of the playoff Harrington went 4 for 4 3 4 6 and Garcia 4 3 4 5 as young Patrick their best mister he has no idea has he as American sports psychologist Bob Rotella very famous across the pond and works with a lot of the golfers a lot of the sports teams have great success over the years with these charges [Applause] Darla's left us to sign the car correctly the correct amount and we'll have a playoff don't go away there you see it Harrington Garcia 7-under Andres Romero how will he feel 65 finish finishes a shot behind Ernie else Richard Green great day for them hopefully off coming up ladies and gentlemen welcome to the playoff to decide the winner of the 136 Open Championship the holes will be 116 1780 there after sudden-death played over the 18th until the winner emerges the toss of the coin not to pick the number over the bike well is that a number there it is I don't I was a long time ago I can't remember auntie from Ireland Polly Harrington [Applause] well here we go again and the main thing that Harrington has to watch here is there's a bunker some 270 yards out on the right hand side same flight positions as we've had all day of course they haven't been changed and I think one of the things that players have to remember now is that they will be a little bit pumped up and that makes them hit the ball 10 to 15 yards further so just need to be mindful of that in their club selection [Music] very odd people spin sedulous here he is done all week off this first hole and a lot of times throughout the championship and iron off the tee for Garcia wind a bit fresher than it was earlier today and into the quiet be off the left-hand side and ideally you want to hit two tee shot up the left to get a view of the green and put yourself on the flat high point of the fairway trying to do that you don't over draw it so quite tricky to get in the right spot you know these players better than I do Sam Garcia looks the more hybrid the more emotional is that's just as demeanor when I don't think it's going to change much here is is an excitable young kid he's a great player and he's excited I don't think it's gonna make any difference those chances well the referee for this purpose Michael Brown chairman of the RNA rules of golf committee david Rickman's alongside him to give a second opinion if necessary Kenny you're alongside there they must be well apart from the great atmosphere how are they looking to your trained eye these two players pretty frisky and with it I mean they know that it's such a important few holes for them don't attack too early 172 is serger completely unsighted to the pin so I said take his line in the TV tower behind it but he knows if he leaks it at all to the right of that you might catch the bunker so I fancy a bit of a left hand down a bit for his opening gambit they divot it up no went into the sandwiches has left him a slightly easier shot than stuck on the bank but he hit that heavy took a big divot deep hey there he is halfway through already and Podrick Arrington's been poring over his yardage book I suspect he's got Harry Potter in there flat line 7-iron good swing 82 birdie go see in the bunker [Applause] and they'd say they talk about being in the zone quadric did look in the zone coming down the last five or six holes and that tee shot on 18 to me was a surprise it's duck Vantage Harrington nicely bit of toing and froing these holes food they all have their own little difficulty and it still surges ship layoffs in 99 was overhauls 15 16 17 and 18 changed this year to 1 16 17 and 18 much better well when you have this this idea of the for whole prayer that's been in vogue since Wayne here was part of it with Calcavecchia Greg Norman I think he's I have the thing it's worked very well indeed the Americans don't think so the United States Golf Association they still go back the following day and play 18 holes but of course then if this if they're still tied they play sudden death so they almost sort of self-defeating but that's the way they like to do it used to be 36 hole playoff you imagined that you told a couple of good ones in this first screen this week little down the hill and up the other side pull mckinney out watching sighs miguel angle hits us to our support and spanish [Music] five slightly miss hit second shot we needed one more cloud but that survived what a chance for Harrington to step into a 2-shot lead that's where it becomes frustrating he's hit a lot of edges today over the back nine you think you've hit good putts but I just catch the edge and don't go in we made mention earlier of Harrington's ability to hit the ball hall high and once again he has done just that here his putting has served him well over these last four days this one he's going to have to tickle during the right-half quite a fast putt this dead center do shot lead [Applause] well the players of about 180 yards 200 yards walked back over to their right to get to the 16th tee it's not that fast excuse me it's only a 20 yards sorry I'm a bit mixed up my first time here it's 20 yards over there do they write to the 16th tee sure I later Basin land off you have a look at this old 248 yard par 3 downhill can't see the front of the green all those bunkers around to catch anything that's miss hit flag today's in the center of the top there it's only 12 yards across so Harrington hit a magnificent shot in here in regulation play Garcia mr. green to the left but they both walked off with three well it seems an age since we were here before and Harrington was moving one of our cameramen out of the way very serenely before playing the most majestic shot into some 8 feet he used one of his little hybrid clubs on that occasion but this winter slightly freshened but it looks like he is reaching for the same weapon again marvelous start for him here birdie in the first well on this whole Harrington's scored a three every time surgeons had three threes and one for first round he dropped a shot here all gone quiet as he pulled it seen a few down then we that's within six inches of where Garcia hits it on the 69th hole wouldn't Garcia like to hit her where Harrington hit it you said whenever lots of turning and frying here he likes it oh my god the pen just cut the edge of it hit smack on it would have been stone dead what a shot from Garcia have a look at this one bounce straight into the pen too much oh that's so near to be perfect there's projects face watching it now see it well a cute of heads Bennigan's off the green but it's only 15 18 feet beautiful shot fulla drama could have another two-shot swing here Sergio pops us in this is not easy to judge the pace the speed and the line there's at least four feet of change in elevation from where Harrington's ball is lying up to the green surface here now his pace cutting has been remarkably good all week but when this climbs the hill it's going to veer sharply from left to right it's actually very easy to give this too much because when he reaches the green it's downhill from there perfect at a depth ah it's a little further than it looked from that other angle go very nicely judged great speed can Garcia make this what is it 18 feet like that put the wood back on Harrington what we've seen this afternoon I wouldn't back against it well the first bit of the part is a little right-to-left but second 2/3 moves the other way so overall I think it's probably just a bit outside the left edge you do feel this be a good time to immediately strike back two strokes behind three holes left to play little down the hills too it is at the line I just probably thought it was a little quicker being downhill not the time to leave them short well the Harrington just taking a swig of water there he's not the only one right here with a dry mouth I normally this wouldn't cause him too much problem but these are not normal circumstances seen this usual preparation of Harrington's over the years well hold well hold so it's at least to clear to to play great 3 therefore porrik he's 1-under after two let's four-hole playoff Garcia to tap in to be 1 over after 2 [Applause] move to the 17th for six for Harrington for five for Garcia in regulation play miss Garcia has the advantage here he's had one three and all fours at 17th Harrington's played this hole in power he's had four fours that's the fair way they're aiming it on the right see Heather the water wines around so you've got to get over the first bit not push it short and right and don't go too far don't go left the area is quite big we're in the landing area that is and then you come up to this green appearing the bottom right here screen there it's a very fine as a benign tonight should knock a night away in 464 61 yards for 61 yards only two birdies all day Peter when I say not a difficult for is probably more likely than a three just as easy to run up a high number he likes it just okay not far from where he was in regulation play 272 really where the ferry gets to now - hit it - 55 s about the widest point is about 45 yards wide there's a generous and fairly soft fairway but if you try and squeeze one little bit further up the fairway that Barry Byrne tweaks in on the left we can't afford a mistake Garcia - to play - behind us to get the fairway just squeeze ease out that's fine both same here both very similar positions having to hit first freshening breeze means it's a 5-iron again for Harrington he should have good memories of this shot from last time around but right it's gotta go to carry the trap all magnificent water shot bar we Harrington that's two shots and two houses at this perfect at the answer that Maureen said he hits the ability to hit the ball to flag high but I always found that was when you hit it out in the middle of the club yes a striking has been very pure today when you can hear the ball going off the club it's and then just indescribable signed pressure on this shot Maureen or Kim 218 yards he has to go for the flag to tend to feather over the on to the flat bitter green wind virtually straight from left to right he's going to come into some heavens [Applause] [Music] this for birdie three that's good oh yeah he's had a few of those today as well just touched the edge of the whole what if I gotta do he's just said to himself I thought it was gone not always in got a not a damn for Harrington six feet for a three shot lead one to play great effort by Sergio you can't give it more than that this is the one here five feet maybe four and a half five to have a three shot lead one hole to go Padraig Harrington this needs to go in with a little bit of pace because if it doesn't it might just do what Suzy with it and wriggle off to the side that sure it doesn't it wasn't guarded with any pasted boring and but you're exactly right it needed that little bit of extra place to hold its line bit of a reprieve for Sergio and off the go to the 18th which has been a graveyard for some just looking down a lead to the last six players of the championship in championship play only one of them got a par two sixes three bogeys one time that was Steve Stricker walk over to the 18th not a long walk two shots in it now Harrington with the honor what would you do well they've had plenty of drama on this hole already today what happened with Harrington but there tried to bounce over that bridge ricocheted off a stanchion and went into the water then he pulled it half duffed it ran into the water the Bern in front of the green and I'll see you found the left-hand bunker couldn't get down in two so they made a bit of a mess of it between him seriously made a mess of it now what is what are we doing here off the tee I know little wood well did we smash it with the driver I fancy it'll be discretion well he's studying the old yardage book big decisions to be made sure he's not feeling full of confidence with the driver which you squirted out to the right but whatever you hit it's tough because if you take an iron it leaves you a long long second shot it's like a little fairway wood that's a compromise funny how the wind on the team was feels slightly against yet when we got down for the second shot that is certainly helping off the right know the big clock on the hotel on the top of the hotel down the roof that's sort of the line if he hit it on there on that the eave either why the gable end with the clock in the middle that'll do something else is difficult here at p2 this grass on the mounds on the right hand side it blocks your view of the fairway not quite sure where the perimeters are certainly down the right side do you know what he's looking down the 17th fairway he's certainly considering something he's not his hit driver every day can so this is a new plot new plan it means to clears one or to go I'm not sure he's not thinking hitting it down the 17th fairway not sure he's thinking about it straight at those bunkers where the club he's got is perfect he doesn't waste much time when he decides to hit it's 1 2 3 waggles and on its way well this is a massive mental challenge here for Harrington just deciding to ricci the ball most of the commentators have moved off the 17th fairway having seen the way that he was shaping up to this and presumably this at can this is something if he does goes down 17 that he has done and maybe previous Dunhill's was taking his time preparing himself for it certainly aiming miles right perfect plumb Center not long but straight Suseo driver laughs Teddy landed soft he's gone on are in the last two days off this 18th but two shots back it's taken the driver I mean I've just had to look out the compound of our pod here where Padraig follows and I don't think he'd go for the cleaner too he said 170 leaves 90 that's what he's looking at situations like this it's not always so easy just need a simple six I know five or six I'm down the fairway either normal condition to stand take it back push it through Bob's your uncle don't tweak it good swing that's perfect ideal position there into brother 90 yards to the hole just the six seven iron for Padre there that white spot he was near his 80 to the front 25 unser 105 to the flag he's left himself just big sand wedge for him 203 yards of it doesn't have an upslope for Sergio Paul sitting pretty well some poor old lies in there with the sitting on some lightest rough just he's just left the door a little ajar he's still favorite Podrick it's 4015 found a good libel it's got to get down into from here I don't think Harriet is going to take more than five gripping this well down the shaft is you Rory look how father it's right four fingers almost on the shaft look at that [Music] he's given himself the chance was poverty get it tight it's not over yet it certainly is not quite an atmosphere down here at the 18th and what a great shot for Sergio well done what club did you hit there Ken do you know what the six on a six iron was it then 203 yards beautiful sweet azar not so big shot only use half the club as well [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well there's a hundred and two yards left between Podrick Harrington and the hole and what an arena this is absolutely stunning surrounded by galleries ten deep and this moment is what all those hours of practice have been about build-it very good for disses when he tweaked it [Applause] it's back on again that's a tough putt from touring to get it stone dead and if it does get it stone dead you can see it will have a putt to tie you also give gassy or a good read across that green which is as they lie there's only one in it now Harrington played three Garcia to Harrington was too ahead the 11:35 through putt to win the open absolutely take two right now [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh well they all settle Harrington will have a putt to win the championship if he misses Sergio I will have a chance tying against should he be able to hold it then Harrington takes no more than five few permutations left Barrington I rented to head this is the fourth hole of a four-hole Claire young Irish I met at Rory played splendidly this week just 18 years of age Hollywood just outside Belfast [Applause] you'd think he'd know this as well as anyone Peter he's won two of the dunghill Lynx championships Oh 206 yes he's played a lot of golf here as you have Sam 1/2 Peter what's he got Sam it's about 3 feet left I would say dead weight get it stone dead again make Garcia hole it well this for the open but I wonder if he's actually thinking that or is there part of them at the moment thinking don't three putt not one bit of it moraine because Bob Rotella would would not allow him to to use those sorts of thoughts what if he three putts of Sergio holes is an entirely different ball game [Music] [Applause] we used to say an amateur match played golf an ideal match for the situation well this certainly as one now if Garcia holes Harrington has to hold to tie strawberry what's going on yet Harrington tried to clear the hole perfectly safely see that was a good pairing cuz it just a little bit speedy but it was very good for line Sergio will have spotted that noted the pace the speed and the lies are just fractionally at the left side of the hill maybe pretty near straight the edge again now then worn out one set of fingernails already just hit that a bit firm didn't he I thought it just didn't take the break at the end again he's hit another lip Sergio is the fraction firm this is a must mister force Harrington to halt his Garcia's this before he's too behind Harrington has a three and a half footer for five this has to go in well done [Applause] [Music] to bathe yourself five times four thousand one five fountain with a nasty length putt to win the championship similar lengths to what he hold in the in regulation for his six wasn't I think it's Ben Hogan said to Butch Harmon tend to letter words if it is to be it is up to me Lister win this part for the first Irishman to win the championship since Fred daily at Hoylake row Liverpool 60 years ago then [Applause] little one what a battle on the bag now have that new bike - the winner Douglas spoils my brother loves make the flags are seen there one day two days virus cough and the family and all kids Island have been a tremendous supporter of golf by the cups over the years if I'm at a 12 women's golf lovely golf courses so much I'll just give them to the world of golf now they have their champion the new champion Cory Harrington well deserved nearly threw it away there we are there you have it gold and silver Peter yep the man from Dublin survives the moment to save it with the Garcias play then Sonia there he goes played so well but it wasn't to be he was there had a good lead at one time just fell away no champagne it's a bucket of goodness losing a boy baton was there a man getting that the interview move to the back that we could just have a word with him it would be great it was it hey Islamism is boring Harrington the Open champion Padraig Harrington the Open champion how does that sound obviously too good it's a lot to take in obviously yeah tried not to get ahead of myself and it's up seat coming in now tell us what it was like to stand over that part knowing that that was for the title I didn't think of it like that you know I convinced myself all week I was gonna win but I never let myself take the win in her something like that anyway so I just you know focused on my target and I hate the port I looked up with about a foot to go it was going in the middle of the hole and I didn't know what to think after what happened at the 18th and regulation played did you believe your chance had go on called it I think if I'd lost I would have you know would have been very hard to take it but because of the fact I still had a chance I didn't allow myself get down about taking six I just stayed positive and just convinced myself that you know was a playoff I do the business and you know the up and down was very important than 18 but it was very much a case of you know if I'd last I don't know what I think about playing golf again so I didn't let it crossed my mind quadric this is your 37th crack at a major title deep down were there ever moments when you dated that you could do it yeah Harvester yeah I've come a long way you know when I turn pro I would have settled Bovina you know a good journeyman pro and I've worked hard and it's been you know it's been great to be named as somebody who could win a major championship but obviously that brings its own pressure so it's actually go and do it I don't know what to think I want you to tell me what you think is happening in Island right now 60 years after Fred Daly well I'm cured as a head of a party going and I know I don't have to do anything for two and a half days so I'm gonna party on that point we'll leave you to enjoy the party what a treat it's been and what a privilege after four amazing days thank you very much Podrick thank you there they all lined up go Martin k-pax chairman of the RNA championship committee ladies and gentlemen welcome to the presentation ceremony for those volunteers in the RNA for their dedicated work over the years not just this week but all the years through my career thank you I'd like to congratulate the Carnoustie links this was without doubt a fantastic layout this week in great condition I don't think there's a player in the field who didn't appreciate the tests that were set here this week and enjoyed the tests that we recess it's a credit to a Carnoustie itself and the golf courses is just one of the best in the world so well done to all the staff at Carnoustie [Applause] I'd like to thank all the spectators who turned out my life on this golf course and I've come a long time back I'd like to thank my caddy Rona and nobody is more committed and dogged eNOS in his approach to keeping me going on the golf course he just never ever let off his commitment his encouragement out Darius is second to none thanks Ron and lastly I look forward to seeing you next year and defending this trophy an understandably emotional speech from the 2007 Open champion Padraig Harrington who now shows the galleries around the 18th green at Carnoustie the Claret Jug what a special moment listen gentlemen very much deserved he did what he had to do played a wonderful round of golf been lucky at the end make double and then it's great dramatic Open Championship at the end as well nah it was sudden I don't remember a better one than some scintillating goal stunning recoveries brilliant putts and dramatic collapses and European winner I couldn't ask for more really okay thank you mark what an Open Championship we've had sometimes great occasionally gruesome but always gripping and in the end it was the Irishman that was grinning Padraig Harrington is the Open champion from all of us here at Carnoustie and very good bye we can indeed will put ladybird [Applause] you
