[Music] Godzilla minus one is directed by Takashi yamazaki and is too's 33rd Godzilla movie and here post war Japan is at its lowest point when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster baptized in the horrific power of the atomic bomb my Godzilla fandom over the years of my life has always been very strange because as a kid I would check out every Godzilla movie from the library I could whether it was Godzilla king of monsters as I thought it was called back then of course that was the heavily edited American version that had Raymond Burr in it King Kong versus Godzilla was on almost constant Loop for a few years in my childhood I had a VHS of that there was a ran movie I liked a lot and I would draw pictures of Mecca Godzilla fighting Godzilla at the Kingdom Hall when I was little when I wasn't supposed to be but when I was 12 years old I also loved Roland imre's Godzilla so I had this appreciation for the American Godzilla as well as the original Japanese films and I didn't really understand what any of it meant to me it was just Godzilla and it was all great as an adult now I of course appreciate the varying themes of all the different Godzilla movies and how really the best ones tend to explore the horror of war especially of atomic war and what that could do to a country of course the original film did that very well and Godzilla one does the very same thing in absolutely thrilling fashion I got to see this film tonight in early fan showing which I guess was Nationwide and I don't think I've ever seen a better Godzilla movie in a theater I loved everything about this movie and it does something that is so rare in this franchise and that is that the human characters are fantastic I cared about each and every one of them not only is there a great team camaraderie that's built amongst this group of men who are working on a wooden boat that's collecting Old Mines that are at the bottom of the ocean they're on this Wooden Boat because it won't attract magnetic mines and over the course of this very risky and tension filled work they bond and eventually form a plan to fight against this monster that's come out of the ocean threatening to even further destroy Japan when it's already in its weakest state so this team that's formed provides so much fun and likable energy to the movie and the D dynamic between them but there's also a very unique not family dynamic in that our lead meets a woman who is caring for a very young child that's not her child and they don't get married and yet the three of them are a family and they're trying to survive this horrible period in their lives and Godzilla is not making that any easier obviously this is one of the first times in a Godzilla film where I'm like you know I'm fine with not seeing my fire breathing icon right now I'm okay with just being with these people I care about them I want them to be okay and I've never felt that way in a Godzilla movie before do you remember the beginning of the 2014 Godzilla movie with Brian Cranston and his wife when you were kind of like in at least I was I felt like I was really in to those characters and then the movie took a different path and characterization went away and I could care less who was stomped on or who got eaten this whole movie felt like that beginning I actually wanted many of these characters to survive I didn't want them to face Godzilla's wrath let's talk about Godzilla too in the film because by no means is this equalizer Godzilla he's not coming out of the ocean to restore the Earth's balance the director described Godzilla as a combination of a monster and a god Godzilla seems to have no motivation for anything in the movie he just in fact even calling him a he they just refer to it as an it the whole time but it's easier to say he cuz we've always kind of called him that but like he just comes out of the ocean and steps on buildings and eats people and then goes back back into the ocean and this film like the original is relating Godzilla to the horrors of War sometimes it feels as if there is no motivation and it feels as if there is no explanation it's just this thing that has now been brought to these people's doorsteps and they're forced to deal with it I also thought Godzilla looked terrifying in the movie Just his eyes he's a very scary looking Beast here so good characters Godzilla is terrifying his attack sequences also increase in their destruction initially he does things I've never seen Godzilla do in the movie before in his first sequence but you also get what you expect in a Godzilla movie as well sequences in the ocean as well as in a city but I felt something here that I again I have to say I've never really felt in this franchise and that as he was stomping around I was like please don't step on those people I like them and I'm almost always on Godzilla's side even in movies where he's the the villain so to speak I feel like yeah man just do it do your thing it's like Michael Myers sometimes you don't really care who Michael Myers goes after because you prefer just watching him be Michael Meers Godzilla has always been that for me whether or not he's good Godzilla or in this case monster Godzilla but for once I actually wanted him to Pivot away from the characters that I cared about the film also looks wonderful and sounds great I love the score it hearkens back to those original theme sometimes his roar sounds so great I saw it in Cinemark D which is like one of the best ways to see the movie I could not have been happier watching Godzilla minus one it just felt like everything I didn't know I wanted to see in a Godzilla movie and it gave it to me and also provided characters that I really cared about a great version of Godzilla and some really good action sequences so I think if you're a massive fan of this franchise I can't imagine this movie not at least doing something for you I hope you guys do check it out when it hits theaters because it is definitely worth the price of a ticket I had so much fun watching this tonight and I'm going to remember this for a long time guys thank you so much as always for watching look forward to more videos very soon and if you like this you can click right here and get stuck [Music] minized
