[Music] for Godzilla minus one directed by Takashi yamaki and marks the 33rd Godzilla film made by too said in post World War II Japan the country reaches its lowest point when a giant monster born from the power of the atomic bomb emerges the monster in question Godzilla I love Godzilla he's awesome and he's been one of my favorite characters in all of fiction since as far back as I can remember it doesn't matter if I'm watching an over-the-top monsterverse film or an intriguing commentary on the Japanese government if Godzilla's in it I know I'm going to have a good time I was already excited for this film what I heard about it but the word of mouth for it has been something else something that I think was better than anyone could have possibly imagined I had seen nothing but overwhelming praise going into this film with some even calling it the best Godzilla film to date and saying that it may very well top every other Blockbuster release this year so is Godzilla minus one really that good yes definitely absolutely this is the best Godzilla film I have ever seen and I'm struggling to think of a single thing wrong with it what puts this above so many other Godzilla movies for me is that for the first time watching one of these films I loved all the human characters I cared about them I felt for them and dare I say I might have teared up over what they went through hard to believe I know this film has a lot to say about the trauma of war and survivors guilt the protagonist of this film was a kamakazi pilot who not only survived the war but failed to carry out his duty to defeat Godzilla and he had the chance so right away you feels so much sympathy for this guy he's lost everything his family his honor people are shaming him and saying he's responsible for their family's deaths and to make matters worse Godzilla is continuing his Rampage as the film goes on we get to meet more characters affected by the war and Godzilla's reign of terror there's a young woman who's taken care of an orphan baby and there's a group of Mind sweepers who add a layer of humor and light-hearted scenes to the film and once you've met all these characters you start to realize that for once you don't mind not seeing Godzilla for a while in a Godzilla film the characters are so engaging they carry the story all on their own and you're invested in seeing what happens to them and you can imagine once Godzilla does show up that investment makes the weight of his destruction feel all the more impactful If This Were A monsterverse Movie and Godzilla stepped on someone even if it was one of the main characters I wouldn't think much about it because his chaos is what we're coming to see here seeing Godzilla step on someone is the last thing you want to see because of how much you care about these people they've suffered so much and the last thing you want to happen is for them to suffer more speaking of Godzilla good literal God he's legitimately terrifying in this film to the point where his introduction scene felt like it was ripped straight out of a horror movie Godzilla's return to villain stas was a big reason why so many fans including myself were excited for this film but I don't think anyone was expecting his depiction here to be this perfect not only does Godzilla feel like the Godlike monster he's supposed to be here but this is easily the most Relentless iteration of the character yet and every sequence featuring him is more thrilling than the last building up to a sensational ending climax there is a true sense of raw intensity and Terror in this film that can't be described with words but needless to say I was shaking at points especially whenever he was slowly getting ready to fire his Atomic breath or we got to stare him in the eyes Godzilla has always been a metaphor for the results of atomic war and scientific hubris and that's exactly what we see here and of course the CGI and visual effects in this film look glorious it's been confirmed that this movie was made with less than 15 million I I don't know how they did it you see every $100 million Blockbuster this year and then you just see this it's truly staggering what they accomplished with this these have got to be some of the best visual effects I've seen all year the music and sound design are also something to write home about I saw this film in IMAX on my first viewing Yes you heard that right I said first viewing this movie is so good I have seen it multiple times and Godzilla's roar was so amazing and earpiercing this might be the loudest movie of the year so loud that it made Oppenheimer look like killers of the flower moon and the score oh man the score it's so haunting and emphasizes the horror on display perfectly they even incorporate the original Godzilla them in there seamlessly everyone in the cast is above phenomenal but kamaki runu suuk stands out from the rest as the heart of the film what his character went through over the course of the film is indescribably tragic and he sells every bit of it there are a few scenes in this movie where his character's PTSD consumes him and the performance makes it so hard to watch this guy deserves all the award recognition for what he does here it's incredible there is one small very tiny nitpick I have with the film and that is one plot point in the very last scene that felt a little contrived to say the least but once I rewatched the film I noticed the reason it was there was to set up something for a potential sequel what it is I do not know but there is a small subtle detail that flew over me that first viewing but even then then when everything else here is so perfect how can I hold an insignificant problem like that against this film Godzilla minus one is a Triumph that puts every Blockbuster this year to shame with its mind-numbing visuals staggering sound design production values Flawless pacing remarkable acting perfect depiction of the iconic monster and deeply compelling human characters anchoring a profound emotional core easily making it the best Godzilla movie of all time yes really not only is this one of the best Godzilla movies ever made but it's also one of the best films of the entire year and even after everything I've said I still don't think any words will do it justice at this point all I can say is please see this film it deserves all the love in the world for what it managed to accomplish it must be seen to be believed I'm going to give Godzilla minus one a 10 out of 10 [Laughter] [Music] so those were my
