God of War Ragnarok is way bigger and more open than the previous title with even more features that are handy to know about like there are multiple Shields now so we got tips to help you find the right one for you also how to very easily upgrade all your skills to the gold level I want to tell you about the hidden settings that I cannot live without and way more to help you get the best start possible of course if you are excited to start playing or are already loving the game leaving a like on the video would then really help me out and let's go sometimes in Ragnarok you are unsure where you came from and where you have to go next well in the gameplay settings under play style you can turn on a navigation assist and then by pressing R3 with this feature on Kratos will immediately look in the direction that you're supposed to go to for the mission you are currently tracking and because pressing R3 is optional you can choose to only use it when you are really lost but I also like to use it to more easily reveal hidden secrets if there are namely multiple ways I haven't checked out yet and the R3 never irrigation assist points Me In One Direction then the other path will likely contain a chest or another secret it will also point you in the right direction for puzzles if you are stuck you then of course still need to figure out the things that you need to interact with in order to solve it but yeah it's still really nice so a great feature overall and right under that we immediately find the repeated button presses I always switch the hold instead of having to tap repeatedly there are quite a lot of moments like that so I want to hold instead but it's of course based on your preference you can also choose to skip some of the smaller object interactions that require a button input like here where Kratos needs to cut off a part of a train very early on in the game normally you have to push the left stick down but by changing the mini game style option from Precision to Auto you don't have to do anything and cradles will just instantly do the action now one more hidden setting that is worth mentioning is regarding the quick turn which was also in 28 18. in that game you could easily do it by pressing down on the d-pads but in Ragnarok pressing down on the d-pads will let you switch to your Shields so now you have to do L1 and then press down on the d-pads or for this move which is not ideal but you can bind it though to a swipe on the touchpad which for me totally made it easier to access It In the Heat of battle the quick turn is of course amazing to immediately Point into the direction of the enemy so maybe worth trying the swipe on the touchpad for yourself by going to the controller remapping and you can by the way bind multiple actions to these swipes on the touchpad although to be fair things like the shield strike and the Spartan rage can already easily be done by using their default buttons and speaking of rage you can now upgrade it with XP and I got a quick XP trick followed by a very easy way to upgrade your favorite skills early on so from cindery and swirtle Vine in that bay of bounty sidequest area you want to get into your ship to the island closed captioning not available for my extra skill have 77 of the 100 uses so I need to use it 23 times more to reach the gold level which will then let me unlock a special mod to enhance the skill even more and we by the way went more in depth on this system and got some Pro tips on how to best use some new abilities that Kratos has at the start in a different video that I will link to at the end of this one but yeah going back to upgrading skills it's pretty handy and there is an even better tactic to very easily upgrade all the early ones to the gold rank if you want so after completing the swordovaim storyline you can also go to nivoheim there's namely a training ground here where you can select an enemy faction to fight with more becoming available as the game goes on and the thing is that you cannot die during these encounters and the enemies will just spawn endlessly until you interact with the object again so you do not get any XP but using your skills here will count towards getting the gold medal so what I did is I just spammed the skill that I wanted to upgrade in this case the Sprint attack with the X so I got silver here and then one minute later I got the gold without having to wear worried that I might die because you can't so with this method I upgraded some skills I really liked early on put a mod on it and then I had them enhanced throughout my whole journey and I also used the Stonewall Shield a lot throughout my journey which one of the new shields you can choose a little over an hour into the game but actually started and failed really badly with the dauntlet shields during my first encounter with the hateful so then I decided to switch to the Stonewall Shield we will go more in depth on both Shields and even touch on the guardian Shield which you will get later on but first real quick about these optional jogger mini bullses so you can encounter two of them in swartlevime one in the optional area and one in the mine during the main quest and then you get one kale spark per fight but six of those will become a chaos flame which is needed to upgrade your blades so you need to fight six of these to make use of their big rewards but the final one is only near the end of the game which I did not know at first so don't worry just look everywhere play the side content you'll eventually find them all and they get the chaos flame same for the Muslim seats you find the first piece really early on while closing a rig during the in service of Asgard side mission which I also discussed in my early armor video I will leave a link to that one in the paint comments so that it's over here on the map and after getting it I was immediately curious where I could get the second piece to travel to mooseboheim but getting that is sadly locked behind a later game mainstory Mission so they really tease you early on but you can only really get the full seats laid into the game which is kind of a disappointment so again don't worry that you missed anything you will find it later if you follow the extra side content that becomes available in swartlevime which is pretty obvious when you get there you will eventually get all the shields by playing to the main story again maybe I already picked your first one but they all have some pros and cons and then it strides all the early game Shields and even the guardian Shields so take it away yes that's right like it's really handy to know what each one Excel said which will not only help you early on but also later into the game after your guardian Shield is wrecked in the game's opening and taken in for repairs you get to choose one of two specialized ones from broken syndrie The Stonewall and The Dauntless The Dauntless is very straightforward it can be used to block like any other Shield but you want to bury incoming attacks instead this will deal stun damage to the attacker while also empowering your next Shield bash so the attack you perform by double tapping L1 when your Shield is empowered which is clearly visible thanks to the glow on it the shield patches will often launch an enemy far away from you and if they collide with a wall or object it will build even more stun on your target so even tougher targets can receive a large amount of stun damage if you are able to Parry one of their attacks but if you're less big on timing and like the soak up multiple attacks at once then the Stonewall Shield is a better pick tanking hits with your Shield up will build up charge and with a full charge so that's four hits you can unleash a powerful Shield slam that also launches most regular enemies into the air like with the Whiplash skill for the blades you don't have to build up the full charge to use this Shield slam but you will miss out on the launch effect if you activate it prematurely also very interesting is that you are able to block yellow ring attacks which would normally break your guard with any other Shield but only for as long as the Stonewall isn't fully charged considering the size of the AOE and the added utility of being able to block otherwise unblockable attacks I think the Stonewall is the better pick of the two but if like me you really enjoy burying attacks instead of blocking them then The Dauntless is a solid pick as well and to be honest it won't take you long to gather the resources you need to craft the one you didn't pick so if you don't like the choice you made you can always swap back later you even get your trusty Guardian Shield back at one point which unsurprisingly is a great all-rounder you don't have the specialized moves of the previous two Shields we mentioned but you get to choose between two different follow-up attacks after repairy and you can even redirect ranged project valves back at your attackers like you could in the previous game none of the other Shields I found so far have that ability but each has of course its own unique mechanic to make them stand out we will totally go more in depth on every shield in the game in a future video so subscribe to make sure you don't miss out on any of our God of War Ragnarok content leave a like if you liked the video and if you want you can watch our previous one on some amazing items you want to get early in the game I will see you in the next one goodbye
