foreign region in St donut a rural area near Montreal that serves as a popular getaway from the city Apple Tree House designed by acdf architecture is a low slung modernist style family home with massing shaped to surround an apple tree and provide lines of sight through the living areas yeah on a private lot engulfed by dense forest the all black of the single story glass house surrounded by a boreal forest is made up of a square surrounding a small courtyard that contains an apple tree that reminded the client of their childhood glass walls throughout the public areas of the home give sight lines of the tree and the other living areas from a variety of different positions these views of the courtyard were designed to give residents a deeper connection to the Natural setting around them [Music] the striking black metal and wood exterior contrast the bright interior the entryway of the home provides glimpses of the Interior while concrete floors have been paired with a wood ceiling for a modern appearance inside a minimal pallet of materials defines the home to the left of the entryway is the kitchen which features minimalist black cabinets and an island [Music] the kitchen provides a view of the open plan dining area and a living room floor-to-ceiling Windows surround the living room which also includes a hanging black fireplace foreign [Music] the ceilings of the communal areas are lined with wooden battens which provide some visual warmth to the home while helping with the acoustical quality of the space [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] off the living room is a covered porch which frames external views of the forest [Music] [Music] Darius hallways connect the social areas of the house with the private spaces like the bedrooms and bathrooms [Music] the floors throughout the home are polished concrete which contrasts this dark black color of the building's exterior [Music] in one of the bedrooms there's a wood accent wall and minimalist furniture floor to ceiling tiled walls add a textural element to the bathroom which also includes a freestanding bathtub and a walk-in shower [Music] here's a look at the plan [Music] [Music] in Winter the home is lit like a lantern adding warmth on an otherwise cold night [Music] [Music]
