[Music] set back from the street the two-story home sits behind the large Heritage oak tree with its canopy stretching across the wide front yard the sanctuary house a previously derelict home sighted along a plot of lush vegetation located within walking distance of Downtown Palo Alto was designed for recent residents who are eyeing retirement the home is lifted slightly above the landscape via concrete Piers ensuring the protection of tree roots upon approach the residence passes through a series of Courtyards and View Gardens that weave through the undulating footprint of the building foreign walls are composed of board formed concrete golden heated Cedar and large expanses of glass [Music] each interior space is paired with its own landscape moment allowing the architecture and Landscape to flow into each other [Music] on the ground level concrete walls serve as an organizing device separating the public and private areas [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] in the public Zone retractable Glass Walls help dematerialize the boundary between inside and out while also providing ample room for the owners to entertain their ever expanding family [Music] the front portion of the home contains an office two bedrooms and a garage while the central volume encompasses an open kitchen dining area and living room throughout the home earthy materials neutral colors and unfussy Decor create a feeling of calm [Music] thank you foreign [Music] generous Windows bring in soft daylight that adds to the Serene atmosphere foreign [Music] the master suite of the home occupies the rear of the plan [Music] foreign the landscape design was overseen by california-based Ground studio which used Boulders large pavers and a rich variety of plants to create a natural look [Music] for the honors the outdoor areas are meant to be the focal point of the home here's a look at the plan on the second level the architect placed an apartment that is designed to be leased [Music] the sanctuary was constructed as a modern house that allows the landscape to speak first the design features its many hidden Courtyards inviting guests to experience the same sense of wonder that first drew our clients to this Urban Oasis
