Glass Burst Open in My Giant Rainforest Aquarium

this is a Code Red emergency that is not good I'd never experienced something like this before I was immediately terrified for my fish oh God it's almost like they knew what was happening because the way they were looking exactly at the cracked area and then looking at me they knew just how bad this was now I'm bleeding oh my God this is what I would call an emergency oh no I woke up this morning and I checked my security cameras on my pond and I saw the water level was low and I thought uh I had done a water change the night before and I thought maybe one of the return valves was a little loose or something nope I turn this corner and I see this so this is pretty much worst possible situation oh no it's leaking everywhere then the second worst thing that could have happened happened my mom came downstairs to say she was upset would be an understatement come look at it oh no she was pretty mad and rightfully so because there was hundreds of gallons of water all over her basement floor how did that even happen I don't even know what I'm going to do now you got get the water green outside before even fixing the koi Pon I knew what had to be done I had to make a deal with my mom for her to keep this a hush hush and not tell my dad about this until I had the time to get this fixed she wasn't originally for it but we found a way to smooth it over I'd bought myself a little bit more time probably would help to not have so many big fish right now we got some big mamas so this is not good all right Scoobies we got to save y'all no koi left behind we only have a couple hours here before the water is at a critically low level for them so the first thing I did was texted Greg Ed and Brian from Team Aquascape a video of what was going on they said that the soonest that Ed would be able to come over and help me fix this was sometime in the next week I thought to myself these fish might not live if I can't get this fixed in the next 24 hours that is terrible I ran my finger along this glass see the direction of the crack and up here right on the edge here I ran my finger on that and I started bleeding terribly so today just gets worse and worse now as the water was draining out of the pond right before my eyes I was trying to figure out what my next steps should be and that's why it's always good when you have an aquarium this big to have one of these we're going to start pumping the water into here I still had this temporary 500g quarantine pond so I thought okay let's move the fish into there temporarily until we see what happens with the pond hey buddy are you wondering what's going on so are we after about an hour of just trying to mop up as much of the water as I could with my mom about half the water in the pond had drained out but that's when I got a big break wait it slowed down you basically stopped right well it didn't stop but it definitely slowed down so for whatever reason the water had stopped leaking kind of it's still leaking out of the bottom down here that's why we have these towels you can see like they're soaking wet I mean it's cracked but like it's still holding you know I mean this whole thing could have blown out after a couple hours the water level remained the same and things stabilized at least for now so I was originally going to throw them into the 500 gon right away but now since it stopped leaking and Ed's not going to be able to come for a few days I figure it's probably smarter to just leave them in here if I can patch this up some way the filtration I would use for the 500 gon is nowhere near as strong as just the filter I have on my main ponds I don't want to leave them in there for 3 days when I don't need to and I could probably just get away with leaving them there for one day but I knew that at any moment those glass window panes could crack open which would destroy everything and kill my fish so I knew that I still had to do something to stabilize those pains I don't know if I can seal it what's that stuff that Billy May sells the Flex Seal that's what we need the first thing that could potentially fix this was Flex Seal felt like this was my opportunity to test this stuff and see if it was the real deal I mean I'd seen the guy in the commercials fix patches on broken glass leaky faucets big massive pipes I'd even seen the guy use Flex Seal to fix a boat and then continue to use it in the water and then two I have these aquarium covers you can take these pieces of glass and I'm thinking to just load this up with acrylic glue patch the glass and that will temporarily fix it so I can leave them in here for a couple more days now I'm not a handy guy but even and I knew that it was time to visit the Home Depot while we're on our way to Home Depot I'm going to start calling some companies to see where I can get a glass or at this point I'm willing to try acrylic as well a replacement window for that side of my pond pretty much by tomorrow I'm in need of an acrylic window we got our Flex tape time to see if this stuff works like it does in the commercials second thing we're going to grab is some waterproof silicone glue so we're going to use this to show you what you would do maybe on an aquarium that's a little smaller that you could actually just repair so we'll grab some of this to show you guys that it's kind of cool I returned home and it was the so sticky like I don't think I can actually get it off now that was really stupid I just had to do it now this stuff is so sticky I understand now why this could probably fix just about any patch I'm just glad there were no serious injuries with broken glass my koi could have got gotten really hurt imagine a scenario where the tank actually burst open and the koifish went flying out the tank was one last thing I want to show you guys I want to show you the ghetto way of fixing an aquarium shout out to Dustin's fish tanks and all of the OG YouTubers this is how you guys showed me how to fix a fish tank this would be more of like a temporary fix versus versus this would be more of like a permanent fix I took this piece of glass I loaded it up with acrylic epoxy and I placed it right over the crack so we got our Flex Seal on the bottom half we got our piece of glass here to hold the top half now I felt pretty good about this because even though it hadn't fully stopped the leaking I knew that this would actually reinforce the structure and just provide a little bit more pressure it would definitely buy me just a little bit more time I'd gotten a call back from the guys at Aquascape and they had told me that Ed would be able to rush and come in 3 days so I think we might just be able to make it until Ed can come and help me fix it what we're going to do is we're going to use this pump to actually pump water up to the filter so that the waterfall will run and this is going to be set up as basically a temporary poid area we're going to wait a couple days for Ed to arrive and for our new window pane to get cut it's the day before Ed arrives and it's time to move the fish into the quarantine pond because the inside of the pond needs at least 24 hours of time to dry before Ed and I can work on it big mama oh my God it's so scary with the big ones you really don't want to stress them out and it's so much better to do it with the sock net so they at least are in water while I'm moving them but they're heavy they're hard to catch it's just so scary for me because these fish are so big some of them are worth a really good amount of money they can just die from the stress there's an art to Coral the koi calmly and peacefully so that you don't stress it out so he's under a lot of stress when you put him in this black net so then we got to this blue sock net so that we can carry him over with with some water every koi has a different personality some koi are like the kid in gym class that just wants to be the last one in at dodgeball I want to do this either buddy this is my black dosu he is a beautiful Koi I love him I love The Dark Knight come on starting to fill up in here this is my biggest koi right here she's just so big she doesn't even really fit in my my neck and so she's able to kind of keep out of it just cuz of how big she is and I don't even know how I'm going to catch her come on Big Mama we got okay be free Big Mama this last one is just the fish are all at daycare we're en join the rest of the pond let it dry and then get ready for Ed to come after what had just happened I was starting to reconsider why I even used glass in the first place acrylic is 10 times stronger than glass yes it can scratch but you can always buff it out and there's essentially no possibility of acrylic cracking acrylic is also clearer than glass when you look through it there's no Distortion it was marked ready for pickup on the same day that Ed arrived back home and we picked it up together on his way over to my [Music] house I never thought that would happen that's unreal it looks really bad here so I don't know if it cracked here and then it just went up I would assume this is the pressure point that that looks like it yeah by the way chattered there you got to start unbolting the first step was undoing all the work we had done to install this window we're going to have to be really careful because then this is going to want to crash down on us and then try to get it out of here in pieces what do you do with like a 6t piece of useless glass going to go in the dumpster at our office is where it's going to goard we had to release the bolts from the steel frame so we could remove this window pan Ed and his team just built a pond for Shaquille O'Neal I saw you guys gave like a huge fish we did actually we picked it when we were on our trip to H Japan it's a monster 39 in yeah that's huge big fish for a big man my name is f Charles Barker Jack's got two ponds I got two ponds who's going to get the third one first all right so Ed was able to pull off the steel plates we had to move this rock out of the corner just us to be able to unbolt it we had to pull the plants out basically to unscrew those on not fun but hopefully with this new acrylic piece for sure for real this time we won't have to do this again we have to basically pry the old piece of glass now off of the metal frame I think Ed's just trying to figure out what's the easiest way to break up with h piece of glass the heart is already broken I'm pretty sure this was the part that was going to be the most dangerous actually removing these massive glass shards that were hanging in front of us [Music] oh silicone broken pieces out this is the small one though that is a hazard look at that that's unreal though so that definitely you can see how it's cracked different this is all really clean right here that's definitely where it's shattered right here I think that's the pressure point that kind of broke free eggar I feel like I have a clip of Ed saying you wanted to you could just detach everything and just move it take it with you just technically true we are going to demonstrate this portable Pond the reason this was so dangerous is because this window pane was hundreds of pounds it's a heavy piece of glass really heavy yeah I think there was form and whereas before it was a polished piece of glass now it was essentially two massive glass shards that if you handled incorrectly or it somehow fell on you might actually kill you it be easy for you and me to just carry it up and out like this I like CRA it was a slow process but we' had finally gotten the Hazardous broken paines out of our vicinity it was time to install the new acrylic paint it's a lot lighter it's a lot stronger but good scratch a little easier but we're going to take good care of it my that drops it right now we got it oh yeah now one of my window panes is going to be made out of acrylic and one of them is going to be glass so I'll have one of each which is sort of the theme of this Pond all right so we're reapplying the new silicone this was actually way easier than when we had originally installed the glass window pane because of how light this piece of acrylic was we were able to complete this whole process in about a few hours but we knew we were far from in the clear now we had to let the epoxy cure for about 24 more hours look at that you fixed it brand new I think we're both agreeing that the the acrylics looking nice it looks really really nice tell me that's not Crystal Clear like you could just like put your hand through it like I almost kind of wish we just went with acrylic orig Ed thank you so much I'm sorry I'm sorry I had to be this way and after 24 hours I was able to start filling the koi pond with water again now if you're like me you're probably wondering okay this is great but what made this happen in the first place I told Ed that the night before or I done a massive water change maybe the pressure differences from being full of water to having no water and then back up again caused the glass to expand it could have been that the window pane had just been positioned slightly off edge giving it just enough pressure to make those pieces separate we definitely had a couple theories as to what happened but at the end of the day we pretty much chocked it up to a freak accident Dad if
