I do like my wallpaper it's kind of a spoiler but I literally have nowhere else to record let's start off by saying my music taste is maybe not the most refined and it's eclectic at best and I know it's like oh I'm not like other girls I listen to different kinds of music but as background music for working I like to listen to 1930s music while I'm traveling it's mostly like single songs from Modern Indie Bands then I listened to 90s and early 2000s rap when I'm cleaning up I listen to BBC's Pride and Prejudice soundtrack when I'm running and I like to play music from whatever era I'm currently researching just to get me in the mood so this summer I was listening to the Cure playlist on YouTube randomly because so far I only knew a couple of their songs from like Halloween playlists and I thought you know what I always found the history of 80s Great Britain really interesting because it's just so much different from what was going on in my country in the 80s the 80s in Poland kind of sucked they were marked by their years of Martial law poverty food and goods rationing and just in general extreme civil unrest if you've seen any of the kishlovsky films made around that time in Poland you will probably recognize the vibe of just general Visual and mental greatness we did have some punk culture that emerged in the 80s but in terms of subcultures it was definitely a different thing than what was going on in the UK at the time let's just say that when Vivian Westwood was opening her first shop in London my family was queuing for hours to get toilet paper worrying about returning home before the curfew so they don't get jailed probably that's why the whole 80s goth culture it's something fascinating to me because it's unlike anything else and it just seems so unfamiliar for me like we didn't learn about it in schools we didn't see it in the photographs so I nowadays I'm sort of discovering what was going on in the west at the time in terms of culture and society and not necessarily big historical events that's what we were taught so that's what I know and after doing some research because I was just curious I was like I want to look like this like not every day but I want to try an 80s golf makeover I will admit I was kind of procrastinating this transformation because I was waiting for all the components of it so what better way to procrastinate than play June's Journey Jin's journey is a game I have spent way too much time playing not gonna lie it's a free to download Hidden Object mystery game set in the Roaring Twenties it is both exciting enough to keep you hooked on but it's also relaxing which is honestly great because I feel like we all could use a good relaxing game right now the main character June is trying to solve a family Mysteries she's trying to find out who murdered her sister and with each new scene you not only discover new places new locations and new sets but you also discovered tiny Snippets of the story so it starts making sense there is a diverse set of characters and some really cute outfits a lot of them really doing the 1920s fashion Justice and what I like about this journey is that there is not like a single task that you have to perform you can actually do a lot little things in the game apart from being a hidden object game you can also decorate your little island there is a sticker album that you slowly fill out with stickers and there's also challenges that you participate in with your Club there is a lot to do so that sounds like something you're interested in follow the link in the description to download juice Journey for free it is available on Android iOS Facebook games so see you there now mind you modern Goths and Goth Scholars refer to the early goth movement as Trad goth so I'm going to use that phrase as well I know that subcultures are usually really particular about using the right sort of words and not mixing different branches and styles so just so we're clear we're recreating a 1980s thread glass Vlog in this video when I decided I wanted to do this makeover naturally it was time for research because as with every era I wanted to do this right I started by going like okay what female artists do we have at the time that could be considered goth and I started looking at 66's Fashion but while she can be credited for massively influencing the movement a lot of her outfits lack the traditional golf element I had a look at other influential bands from the times such as Bauhaus The Cure Alien Sex Fiend but let's face it they're all guys and I was going for the female golf look so said I decided to focus on actual Goss and not artists what did goth girls wear in the streets in the 80s the problem was a lot of photos and videos from the time are really poor quality and it's not even the quality of the photos themselves they're just like poorly scanned it's kind of difficult to see the details here are some elements that I thought were pretty iconic to the look or I just found interesting first of all the hair the hair is obviously something you notice immediately it's interesting to me how in a way it still looks very 80s but it's clearly a lot more chaotic some of the trends like bangs mullet shaped cut or the sides pulled up and in general just the sheer volume of the backcomb hair is definitely influenced by mainstream 80s fashion unlikely for me uh YouTube tutorials didn't exist back in the 80s can you imagine that would be so useful but I did watch a modern goth tutorial by it's Black Friday and there is also Snippets of this 1983 documentary where we get a better look at the girl's hair while she's doing it and in the video as well as in a lot of the pictures the hair is first crimped then it's teased to Insanity then the makeup the 80s makeup in general was not for the faint-hearted and the 80s goth makeup was just double that those success herself is not a fan of the Godmother of goth label like she said herself she's much more than that she likes to mix Styles it is clear that her signature look has heavily influenced the 80's golf floor there is a dark defined brow there is the heavy eye makeup and there is the accentuated vertical line between the brow and the corner of the eye if you know what I mean which I personally think looks very 1920s teddabara what is worth noting though is that 80s goth makeup was not completely black maybe that's the perception we have from seeing mostly black and white photos but colored photos tell a completely different story there was plenty of color involved in the eye makeup black lipstick appears just as much as red lipstick does if not less actually and there is just a wide variety of eyeshadow Shades the faces are a bit pale but I wouldn't say they're completely white they are likely just powdered white but not necessarily painted white and then the clothes tread got clothes turned out to be a little different than I anticipated because a lot of the elements I would sort of assume were associated with golf culture actually developed after the 80s and the elements that were a part of golf look in the 80s sort of stayed in the 80s and were dropped on the way like not all of them stayed in the golf Vlog so here are some of the things that's really surprised me in terms of clothing and accessories first of all first of all what was the Mickey Mouse sound I just made first of all there was quite a lot of knits involved a lot of of Goths in the photos I've seen are wearing some sort of loose fitted sweater second of all glitter there seems to be a fair amount of just glittery something be it like glitter in the hair glittery ties a lot of the things have sparkled to them which is again not something I would assume is goth related shoes despite what I thought like I just imagined some heavy food where like Martin's or something this Bible I thought a lot of the 80s female gods are wearing some sort of heels like killed palms or healed leather boots and then the jewelry there was definitely a lot going on in terms of jewelry but most of it was not half as dark as I expected like I thought it's just like skulls and spiders and baths there was actually plenty of just bees or zirconias and with all that in mind I started carefully constructing my 80s goth girl look these pictures are sort of what I settled on on in terms of styling first I went online and I ordered an 80s leather jacket and a pair of used shoes that are kind of controversial but I thought will fit the mood nicely and then I went thrifting I spent a while looking for some sort of a sweater that would look more or less like what I've seen in the videos and photos but I was unsuccessful because most of them were like pink and like blue and cream so I just gave up on that idea altogether and I decided to just look for Tops and and skirts I found this stretchy mini skirt that is not ideal but I thought it will do with nice accessories because based on that single photo yes they did wear that and then for the top I was thinking either going for something lazy but I struggled to find the right type of lacy blouses or something with like batwing sleeves because that's very 80s and I've also seen it on a couple of pictures so when I found this blouse which additionally also had this like laced up shoulders I was like yep let's do this [Music] I also found a couple of belts that I thought might work nicely and I grabbed a couple of bracelets on my way this is so 80s but also it is kind of 1930s and they used to have those leather jackets that are extremely hard to find because they weren't like super big in the 30s so I'm thinking like with a bit right can I style it in a 1930s way I wonder because like the waist is there then I ordered a lot of makeup accessories and some jewelry online and here's my little haul oh okay this is like a staple of a golf look which is those waterfall earrings I've seen them on so many photographs of 80s girl ladies I would never associate something that sparkly with early golf culture but here we are okay I'm actually pretty excited about those these are fake earrings as someone who only has their ears pierced I'm like oh oh that's the pig ouch oh this is a black lipstick I just hope it's like it actually covers anything okay yeah the coverage is mediocre but it will do it will do I don't think I'm going for a fully black lip anyway oh this one's heavy okay according to the photograph it seems like most girls did have some sort of black beads I have seen someone refer to it as like the Victorian jet jewelry but honestly I don't think anyone even in the 80s could afford a Victorian necklace this long so I'm assuming it was just like glass black beads okay these are the tides I'm not gonna lie I thought they're a little bit smaller and then here is the White Foundation I have read some pretty bad reviews of it but it's still the only one I could find so worst case scenario is I don't use it and then there's also white powder which again I'm not sure how much coverage it it gives because I do have a white transparent powder which is basically like you can't tell that you have it on your face so I'm hoping this one offers a little more coverage okay yeah it's pretty white it might actually work even without out their Foundation it does give off this like ghosty white look so that's very promising yeah that's it for now I think I still have like two two more packages to pick up so uh I'm still missing the shoes I'm not sure if they've been sent so yeah see you later hi and welcome to let's make a necklace out of safety pins because that's what I assumed I did based on a single photo what I wanted to use for a safety pin necklace now that I'm thinking about it it might be messy because one of the Hoops every fourth one is a little bit bigger so it might be uneven but uh that's goth for you baby boy don't cry excuse my disheveled appearance I'm actually ready to do the golf makeover so I'm wearing whatever and my hair is straight because I'm gonna crimp it later and back comment or whatever you call it so it makes no sense for me to look um acceptable oh that does not look good I don't think it's going to be nice but one thing I know about 1980s goth culture in Britain is that most of the stuff was handmade this is a subculture of people who were not super well off so I'm assuming this is totally something they would do just stick a bunch of safety pins on a necklace that their dad used to wear in the 1960s I don't know I'm gonna be honest with you it does not look what I imagined it would look like okay this is actually a not that bad and B it looks exactly like what I thought I've seen in the photographs so I think I cracked it it was a safety pin necklace thank you very much good night welcome to Trad goth Salon first off we're gonna need to get rid of those glasses because they're looking quite vintage there I say so last night I gave myself a sort of a side bag because I thought it's gonna look a little awkward when I have this Gap in the middle of my head from where my middle part used to be oh I need to get rid of my earrings because I'll be wearing some different ones guys so this frame on I feel like this Frame is kind of odd okay um this thing is already heated so let's do this of course I'm going to start with something that is like totally visible in case it doesn't work out I haven't used one of these before we had it in our house and it was French and it was used whenever we had like a oh oh wait never mind it's like oh wait it actually gives a really nice texture should I use it in my like vintage style hairstyles oh I feel like it works better than the one we used to have wait that's actually nice Okay um yeah let's move on oh my God okay I'm gonna try a thicker strand of hair and see if that makes a difference I thought I'm gonna have to use some some sort of product to make it stay but now that I'm thinking about it it's already quite distinct if you ask me I feel like I like the effect better when it's thin strands of hair so it's gonna take a while but I already feel it's gonna make backcombing so much easier because of the texture the back is gonna be annoying though I can never do the back I already look like Robert Smith so I I guess it's working but it takes so long did they do it like every couple of days because it's exhausting also disclaimer obviously not every gas crimped their hair but it's just such an 80s golf look that I had to try it it's also not just a goth look like people crimp their hair regardless but now this is where it gets true drinking my hand is a little bit sore from like pushing it together but the more you push the deeper the waves get so all right I'm finished crimping so I do have a gel or like a hair wax that I generally don't know how to use you know what I'm just gonna check out the tutorial real quick because I don't remember I'm using a hair gel because it's Black Friday told me to it did lift my hair a little bit not gonna lie now I'm using a some hair wax I don't know honestly I don't know the difference between the two maybe some hair stylists can help me but I'm just putting some product in so it's holding the back coming better okay fingers crossed it actually does something because I could never properly.com it's always been a bit of a mess with me okay um too late to back out now what I want to know is like how long did this hairstyle last did they just do it like on a daily basis or every three days any 80s girl please tell us in the comments because I'm actually I want to know I'll check if it's if it works better with a comb I need to change the framing because um you can't really see my hair anymore those moments where I'm like you know sitting in my flat nobody's here I'm recording myself doing this and I'm like I can't believe this is my job I feel like I need some bangs you know what I'm gonna pin the sides because then it it looks like a little bit more 80s I feel unless Edward Scissorhands yeah that's more like it I feel like it's already too heavy and it keeps falling down I am um it is a look it's just controversial I would say I'm gonna try and pin this in place so I can pretend it's shorter than it actually is okay I feel like the bangs added to the 80sness of this look so what if I used a hairspray upside down do you think that's gonna help I'm gonna try oh okay um I genuinely have no idea what I'm doing I feel like the hair is not staying up though and that's the most annoying thing like I've never back on my hair properly I don't know how to do it and it just keeps like flopping but at the same time I feel like my hair is just not cut right for this look because it should probably be more layered it's all about the layers baby it's not about your lack of backcombing skill you know what let's let's keep it that way if I walked through London in the 1980s I think people would get the memo you know so let's move on to makeup so I think I'm gonna skip the White Foundation because I have a feeling it's going to be too much and I'm just gonna go straight to white powder funnily enough this could probably also work for 18th century okay now reference photo I'm gonna have a look we definitely need some statement eyebrows which I think I'm going to use like a black eyeliner for we'll just go from there okay it's it's a thin eyeliner so it's gonna be fun oh my God why does it look so angry of course both of them are completely different and have nothing in common but you know what Opposites Attract so I'm not judging here ah I really hope it washes off because I look like that's cat you know I feel like I should make them a bit longer this better be worth it you know specifically for this video I actually bought eyeshadow blending brushes hope you're impressed I also had to buy a whole palette because for some reason people do not have black eyeshadows sold separately it's just like not a thing I'm just gonna black shadow all over my eyes foreign than just the eyebrow I feel like I'm getting there but I'm just gonna put some eyeliner just because now the lips I was debating whether to go full black or like dark red and I'm still not sure to be honest you know what I'm gonna do black first and then cover it with red and see what we got and I'm also gonna check success's lips as a reference yeah she's definitely doing like a 20s vibe I need to find my lipstick God it also accidentally sent myself in the mirror and I think it looks kind of lit I'm also gonna use um mascara because there is no reason for me not to see as with every historical era the hair makes so much more sense when there is also like different elements of the look like the makeup and the outfits so that being said oh wait actually there is one more thing I wanted to do this is like an 80s thing people would use blush on their forehead I'm just gonna do it because I can and I have seen it on some goth photos so okay that looks like I hit my head yeah that does look like I hit my head um I'm just gonna cover it with some more powder so it doesn't look like I've sustained an injury okay that's way too much powder and I just ruined um the eye makeup anyway all right let's get dressed okay first of all the earrings I'm keeping it classy and glamorous so we're going for the waterfall zirconia whatever earrings come on I need to get this done before the hair flops okay now we're gonna put in some fake earrings they actually work pretty well got it necklaces okay so I ended up not going for anything cross-related because it feels weird since I'm Catholic and that will kind of be just uncomfortable so I went for the black beads that I feel like I'm just gonna leave long then I got this you know what I actually have two similar ones and I don't know which one to use then we have the safety pin necklace which is a bit of a mess so uh I'll be right back I feel like these two are clashing how did you wear those they keep flipping all right then there was bracelets which I have like 50 off because I noticed there is like a lot of bracelet stuff going on all right I'll just put my belts on and uh I'm ready for the reveal so see you soon [Music] thank you [Music] yeah okay I really don't feel like taking all this off like how do I even start to undoing the hair should I just stay like that for the rest of the day and see what the public thinks because I kind of like it like it's not my favorite style there's definitely a style so also don't forget to download June's Journey using the link in the description see ya
