hello and welcome to another video by enterprises software solutions your number one software dudes my name is anthony and today i want to walk you through how to use the microsoft compliance center's compliance manager so we're going to start off here in the compliance center which if we look at the address bar we're just at compliance.microsoft.com one of the admin tools for office or microsoft 365. so from here we're just going to click on compliance manager and here's where we have what microsoft calls the compliance score and you notice that i've got about 75 here and how it calculates the 75 percent is using the point system that you can see down below so you notice that the points are divided into your points and microsoft manage points and uh microsoft likes to pat themselves on the back here and give themselves 12 000 out of 12 000. and i've only got 63 out of 4 000. so i'm quite i'm lagging significantly behind what microsoft has and this is because it's just by demo 10 i've gone through and done just a few of these in preparation for this recording this video and so if we want to get this higher what we can do is we can look here on the overview it has just some improvement actions if we click on view all improvement actions we get a list of all of the improvement actions that we have available to us and you notice it has a default filter here and if i click on this and scroll down it's looking at items that are have not passed tests or out of scope and so what that means is there are items that are left to take care of essentially by default and we can filter these down by solutions as well so solutions such as azure active directory compliance manager etc and there are a couple of ways to actually get our points down and the first of which is the items that we can manually complete and what i mean by that is if for instance we look at protect authenticator content you notice that it gives us 27 points if we achieve it so i'm going to click on this and this opens up and it gives us some really good information on how to implement and for this one specifically it's a pretty general one on you know how to protect your authenticator content nothing really too crazy but let's say that you want to get this one done for instance so we click on edit status we have this option to assign it to somebody so i'm going to sign it to myself and i'm going to select an option here for planned and if i hit save and close so what will happen is this will send an email to the individual that you assigned it to so in this case it will send an email to me letting me know that i've been assigned to get this taken care of so when i've gone through and completed this it's just a matter of hitting edit status marking it as implemented out of scope whatever's appropriate selecting the date and saving and then once it's been implemented you of course want to come back and have another individual test it in this case the other individual is going to be myself again so i'm going to say this passed the test on the same day because we are that effective two days before christmas and there we go so you notice we have it implemented we have it passed and we now have 27 additional points so let's see if that's reflected in the compliance manager if we have more than the 63 points that we started with we have 90 points now so you can see how this this can be really addictive to get your points up maybe get it to 76 percent of course up to is as high as reasonable for your organization there is one of the type of improvement actions i want to go over so we look at the compliance manager settings you notice that it has this automated testing option here and we have this option to turn it on for improvement actions for offer improvement actions and on per improvement actions so there are some actions that the compliance manager can automatically scan and assess so if we so turn on per improvement action we see the list of improvement actions and not all of these are ones that you can manage but these are the lists of the ones that it can automatically scan and give you points for besides of course the microsoft ones which hit it already already has so for instance we can look at this new oauth authentication one i'm not going to change these settings here because i'd like it on for all the ones that it can be uh so we'll go back to the compliance manager look at improvement actions do a search for oauth and here we go here's one that's well this one's only three points but for the sake of the demo we'll still take a look at it even though it's only three instead of 27. but this one you notice it says this action is automatically monitored brilliant so all we have to do is we have to change it let it sit for 24 hours and then hopefully in that time it will be updated and you notice even here on the right hand side under notes and documentation the test note says another attempt will be made to just detect this actions status within 24 hours and so for this one this one's a little different than the one before it has some links to some documentation so we can look at oauth app policies and app permission policies and it even gives us a launch now link to take us to where we need to go to fix this and this is what's really cool about some of the improvement actions in the compliance center is it tells you exactly how to do it gives you a direct link to where you need to go not all of them are like that protect authenticator content one so for instance here if we wanted to create that that oauth policy you just made a matter of clicking policies and i've already created one i was hoping that it might be immediate when it scanned it but it really is up to 24 hours and if we flip back to the compliance manager uh so within 24 hours we'll get those measly three points but that's just an example of an automatically detected one it has this nice gray bar at the top to let you know that that's what it is so that's how you can get started with the compliance manager getting your points up something that i find addicting uh even though i've only done four in my demo tenant remember it's a demo tenant but it's something that's something that's fun and i hope this is something that you find useful anyway thank you for watching this video and remember that enterprises software solutions is your number one software dudes
