get out of a reading slump with me! my tips & tricks 📚 | reading vlog|

I just got a coffee that is how serious I am about getting out of this reading slump I'm not getting distracted I'm going to be reading anyway hi guys welcome or welcome back to my channel I have been doing everything but reading and I haven't had the urge to pick up a book or read a book in the longest time yes I've been reading I'm in the middle of like three books right now I've started a bunch of books haven't finished them I've read a few books that I've rated pretty high but like I have no feelings towards them it's the weirdest feeling ever and I'm sure most of you a majority of you have felt this type of reading slump before literally no book does it for me even if I enjoyed the book like it doesn't do it for me and I don't want to start pointing fingers here but I'm gonna after reading Magnolia Parks too and I know I talk about all the time I think you know how in Romance Books they say or like the main male character will say I'm about to ruin every other guy for you Magnolia Parks has ruined every other book for me no book will ever make me feel the way that that book feels and I have to accept that but I haven't yet and I know you're saying Sarah just read Daisy hates too if you liked the rest of them and they're your favorite books just read just read the last one here's the thing I can't do that because if I read that I'm gonna finish it this slump is still gonna be there you know I've tried a bunch of things I've tried not reading it all and just waiting for the urge to pick up a book has come back and it hasn't so that is over we're gonna do this in phases that was that was my first try at this but my first phase is mood reading I am in the middle of two books right now but I'm just gonna go with it I'm gonna pick up books that I feel like I will enjoy at the moment and that is phase one so let's get into that first try of getting out of this reading slum is starting right now I'm starting a Taste of Poison by tessandro Dent entangled with face series it's magical princess retelling this is going to be a snow white retelling so one of my favorite princesses I'm very excited and you know what I had to go into this with hope so first try let's let's see how this goes [Music] thank you [Music] I've been clicking my phone all day I've been on Pinterest all day I don't even really use Pinterest that often like my phone is my the biggest issue when I'm reading like I don't know what it is I just click it I click it and I don't get off of it I'm gonna try to download this app I know what it's called but someone said that if you download it and you put a little timer on I think it grows like a tree or a flower or something and then when you click your phone or open your phone flower slash plant dies I think I'm gonna go in the bath and make it like a nice Ambiance a nice little setting to read and grow something on my phone I'm gonna go figure out what the app is I'm gonna go do that and maybe it'll help me I read like maybe like 70 pages today and that's a lot for me because I haven't read other than the video I did with Haley and Destiny other than that I haven't read a book all month so I'm really hoping that this helps also the thing is what's sad about a slump is it's not the book it's me this book is really good and I love the setting and the fantasiness of it and the fairy tale-esque but it's me let's go try that let's see if that works maybe that'll help me out somehow I don't know [Music] [Music] okay so I think I have a few things that have been helping me get through this book the book is really good I'm loving the princess retelling of Snow White something about the way she does the princess retellings I just love it so much it's very magical I saw last night that she's coming out with another one over the summer and I think it's the Sleeping Beauty retelling I cannot wait for that but aside from the book it's really good which is obviously helping me want to get through it and want to know what happened so I'm definitely reading more than I have been recently I have gotten close to halfway what helped me most was one the timer app the focus timer definitely helped I put it to 25 minutes and then a five minute break so it's like small intervals which I feel like helps a lot and it was helping because when I go to a different app which I did try to do I killed the plant and that just like something in my Consciousness was like that's not okay we can't kill the plant and then another thing that was helping is in my book club on our Discord there's this little Channel called reading Sprints there's usually always a reading Sprint going on between whoever obviously wants to join in I joined a few last night we read for 30 minute intervals and then we stopped for like five minutes and then we go again if you want to keep going and that helped lot too because knowing other people are also reading with me kind of makes me want to read I don't know I feel less alone in it I don't know it's very weird because when I'm reading by myself I'll go on my phone just to see what everyone's doing I guess I don't know it's so odd but in the reading Sprints knowing like 10 other people or even if it's like a few couple other people are reading with me it definitely makes me feel better also finding good music to read with the book in my headphones has helped tremendously and I've always done this but especially with the fantasy putting on fantasy music it focuses me so much I know people ask me if I listen to music with lyrics if not lyrics and I just I do both I kind of just look up the vibe of the book I'm reading or if the book has a specific playlist on Spotify I'll listen to that so those are things that have been helping me I'm gonna try to read a bit today it's a snow white retelling but her name is Astrid snow her father was poison and her stepmother is blaming it on her so she ran away from home and she's hiding out at this seven sins hotel which is very interesting because Kingdom of the wicked one of my favorite trilogies my favorite fantasy trilogies it's like the princess of Hell the seven sins of hell and this is the seven sins Hotel so every part of the hotel has a sin they're talking about like let's go to house wrath and I'm like I wish wrath was there part of the alpha Council which is the highest part of the government there has like Huntsman her stepmother hired a huntsman to go find her they made a bargain to bring back her heart or something like that so he's now there but it's very entertaining a very entertaining storyline but you also get the Snow White retelling the princessness of it and it's very much fairy tale-esque and I love it so much so gotta keep reading things are definitely looking up but I'm still not wanting to pick up my book but I'm like trying different things I will be back we'll see how this goes we'll see if I get any further [Music] thank you [Music] foreign guys I have finished a book this makes me so happy because I know I'm filming this video but this is like reading on my own time anyway and aside from videos I haven't been able to just finish a book on my own time you know what I mean like I do read for the videos but like I also read personally and this is like a video but like I'm I'm reading personally I want to get out of my slump personally I just want to take you guys along with me so it just feels so good to like finally finish a book the thing is I'm really happy that I finished it but the actual book like it's so weird I've been reading but I have like no feelings like no feelings are coming out of me from these books like I really enjoyed it but I felt like I was just like reading it you know like no reactions that's how I felt like with my past like few books for the book itself if you want a little bit of a review four stars I've really enjoyed it the romance happens like really quick in these books this whole series I've come to realize but I have to remind myself it's a princess retelling like it's a fairy tale and if you watch like a princess movie like they're falling in love in two seconds anyway so I take that with a grain of salt but there's a mystery involved in here which I really like a little murder mystery which is really fun to go along and like figure out with them aside from the book The slump like I said before the timer and setting goals like I will be on page like 20 and I'll set a goal for the 30 minutes that I'm reading and be like I want to get to page 45. that helps too setting goals helps do one more mood read and then we'll try a different method to get out of this slump just I need a book to like really do it for me okay so in the collab video I did with Destiny and Haley I read Once Upon a broken heart that was the book that Haley gave me to read and I really really enjoyed that but that was like another one that like I went into it feeling like I was gonna love it I love the setting the fantasy fairy tale esk of it just kind of like Taste of Poison like that whole world is very fairytale-esque but reading it I just like had no feelings towards it but it was really good I gave it four and a half Stars so I did end up adding the second one The Ballad of Never After I will say that the covers are beautiful there's so many different covers I won't ever cover but I've heard that this is like amazing even better than the first one I'm gonna go into this I'm really in like a fantasy fairy tale mood I have really high hopes I've heard like literally nothing but good things about this one the third one's coming out I think in September but fingers are crossed the thing is I could write this like four or five stars but like I don't get a feeling it's so weird to explain but yeah so I'm gonna try this we'll see how it goes and then we may have to try something else to get out of this let's start it foreign so amazing news read halfway through the battle never after yesterday it feels so good to one enjoy a book and to not get halfway but like read but not like feel like you're forcing yourself to reinforce yourself to enjoy a book like you know what I mean I love it so much and it's really making me feel things like I've been reading so many good books but like nothing's really made me feel anything this one's really good it's basically following Evangeline again on her journey through whatever happened in the first one but there's more of Jax which is one of the characters and once upon a broken heart and I wanted more from him and once upon a broken heart and we're getting so much of him in this one and it's making me really happy he's giving the same energy as wrath in Kingdom of the fear like the last book in Kingdom of the wicked Trilogy and you know I love that like a younger version of Wrath I don't know what it is I think it's just like the fantasy characters that are like morally gray and protective like it's weird like how much I love that in a character and Jax is just like I don't know what it is the sarcasm the things he says but like the need to protect Evangeline is so it's great other than like that part of the story the actual storyline there's like low-key mystery thing that they have to solve that's going on and following along with that is really fun the writing is so easy to understand it's not like hurting my head to figure out because a lot of fantasies I just need more brain power and I really didn't want to have to do that right now because of my slump it's just it wasn't working for me but the storyline is so easy to follow her writing is so beautiful I'm just I'm really happy right now that this is working out for me the only thing is I know that this book goes well I still will possibly be in my slump moving forward like it doesn't end here like I still need to continue doing what I'm doing or figure out a way to get out of the slump anyway because just because this book is good doesn't mean I'll be able to continue reading like we need to keep the train moving is that a metaphor we need to keep the the wheels turning that's what I meant I think I don't know anyway I want to finish this today that's a like amazing goal for me because it's been so hard for me to get through books recently but it feels good to want to read and want to pick up this book and want to get into the story and see how it ends and I just it's a good feeling so let's go read let's see how I feel about the rest of the book [Music] guys I need to express how I feel over this book right now I literally ran home so I can make a tick tock about it that's kind of sucks anyway I got coffee again today first because they had no matcha where I was it made me so sad but that's okay anyway I haven't felt this way about a book like I haven't had like a feeling towards a book like I was just reading words like I've been saying this book it's doing it for me Jax anything Jax does or says I'm just like bowing down like I don't understand it's just this whole scene that just happened and I read it at the coffee shop and I literally had to reread it a few times I was giggling it was so good and like I want to say it I want to read it to you guys but I can't I don't know the way he's just God I don't know what to say I'm eating it up this is me eating up this book I want to finish it today which makes me so happy just like I haven't had the urge to just pick up a book and read it in so long like I said this one could be so good but the next one can put me back in a slump so we're gonna keep trying after this I'm not stopping until well I will stop eventually but I'm gonna keep trying until my slump is like slowly going away but this is definitely helping this is like okay I need to keep reading because I just need to I just need to I said to tell you guys how I feel and like give you my little reaction to this because it's just it was so good it was so good foreign [Music] thank you [Music] thank you foreign [Music] because it was just like I sped through it like I was like reading so quick not skimming but like I was going so quick just to see what was going to happen because I needed to find out and I just I just I have no words I will say I'm happy that a book finally made me have feelings again but these are just like not fun feelings the ending I just there's really nothing I can say other than I'm obsessed the writing of this book The World of this book the characters in this one I definitely like this one better than once upon a broken heart I think this one gives more into the romance side and more into the story obviously but I just am so unwell right now you know it's really good when I want to reread it like I want to go back in right now and just like reread especially the ending I need to like go back in it starts like this I thought the book was over because it says the end no it's not over that's like literally where the pain starts so I'm gonna go reread that I'm gonna sit on a rating and we'll get back to you guys because I feel like now that I liked this so much I'm gonna be looking for this feeling in other books and that's usually what happens I'll like a book I'll give it five stars or however many stars hi and I feel like a lot of feelings towards it and then like I'm chasing that little feeling in a next book so we'll see do you remember when I finished the Battle of Never After and I loved it so much yeah I haven't read in like guys the slump is back full force you read such a good book you just there's nothing else is it like intriguing to me right now so like I said this is like the phase two of trying to get out of it I thought I was getting out of it I thought the Battle of Never After did it for me but I haven't read I really would like to read I would like to enjoy another book I'm going to try to read books that have already started they're all risky because I started them and haven't continued to read them but I have this thing where if I'm in the middle of a book I feel so incomplete without finishing it and starting other books especially being in the middle of three right now like I've never been in the middle of three books and just like that's it actually I think I'm Gonna Roll four we'll pick together I I thought it was three there's four okay first book is in a gym by Kate Canterbury this is our book club book of the month I'm halfway or I'm just about halfway this is the one that I'm furthest into like this is the book that I read before bed put me to sleep like that's that's how this one's going I don't know if that's our safest option then I'm also reading on my Kindle Mile High I started it a few weeks ago and I got like maybe like 30 ish percent of the way through and I didn't love it something about it I think it's the type of romance and the type of book that it is I'm like not in the mood for like a romance like that and there's some parts of it that it was just really bothering me so I stopped reading it and I want to see it all the way through maybe this one I kind of want to see how this one ends I don't know then I'm also in the middle oh it's on the bottom of here but I don't want to take it down it's everything I wanted to say things I wanted to say but never did by Monica Murphy it's the first book in the Lancaster prep series which I didn't know was a series so I kind of wanted to go back and start it I think I started this one last month and I got like again like 30 of the way through and then I stopped because I didn't want a romance like that it's like a bully romance it's Prep School obviously it's not the type of romance that I wanted at the time but also I want to see that one through and see how that turns out so that's definitely a big option and then a couple days ago I got this book Lauren actually one of our favorite books is darling Venom by Parker s Huntington and she saw someone posted on Instagram and she sent me the post and she was like Parker wrote another book so we immediately bought it mardark Romeo is co-written by Parker s Huntington and LJ Shen I haven't read a book by her but I've seen her books before the cover is literally to die for it is so beautiful I've only gone 50 pages into this and it's like a marriage of convenience Trope I didn't know what it was about when I bought it I literally immediately bought it I still don't know what this is completely about but that's this one honestly I want to read this because of the cover I think it's gonna be in my dark Romeo everything I want to say is too long and the jam puts me to sleep Mile High I want to read it so bad but I don't know what it was about day or what it is about it it's just I don't know but also this it's like I started it and I'm like I don't I'm like low-key in a fantasy mood after the battle Never After anyway I don't know I think I'm gonna continue this one and see how that goes I don't know if reading books I'm in the middle of is gonna work out for me but we shall try let's just let's read this one [Music] thank you [Music] I can't remember how many days it's been since I started this book it hasn't been long I think it's been a couple days but yesterday I read a lot of it the beginning of it was kind of iffy for me and I was like slowly getting through the beginning it's a very weird story like starting out like they're Dynamic and like their conversations go like the very beginning is very questionable I guess you could say so I wasn't really into it I didn't really want to read it but then I like pushed myself to continue reading and yesterday I read like a good chunk of the book it got like really good like their banter I was like laughing at he has like a couple friends in his life and they'll like put their text conversations in and their conversations were making me like laugh so that part's good like I love I love giggling you know like the book made me laugh at some points and more into like the middle of it and a little after the middle like their relationship makes more sense because this is a marriage of convenience something happened so they had to get married right away or engaged at least right away they moved in together like that whole thing but their Dynamic was so weird in the beginning because he's older than her and he like I don't know how to explain it you just have to read it to figure that one out it gets right into the story like right into like the spice what I ever right into right into everything but yeah I didn't expect to like it as much as I'm liking it right now because in the beginning I just like did not want to pick up this book now I want to finish it which is a nice feeling I had like no expectations going into this because I had no idea what it was about and like I said the beginning was kind of questionable but now I'm like enjoying it a lot more not a slump but I feel like I'm slowly getting out of it like very very slowly getting out of it which is good I've been growing my plants and my trees on my app I literally still use it and it's really fun highly recommended I'm gonna go read a bunch right now and see if I could finish it yeah I have no more words foreign [Music] okay do you see my face I'm finally feeling things when I'm reading again I think this is working I think I loved it a lot more than I expected to or at least how it started out I just didn't really have high hopes for where it was going to go but the character development of Romeo was just phenomenal like seriously it was so good from how he started out to how he was at the end I'm just like I love him and I hated him for a while not hated him like the way he acted I was like okay but they're Dynamic and and their banter some things that he says are like so out of pocket but it's so funny his friends I want books on his friends like this was like really good and I didn't think it was going to be I didn't think I was gonna like it as much as I like do now after finishing it I think I would give it four stars running anything lower than four wouldn't be fair I think this is helping I think I'm slowly getting out of my slump there's one more book that I'm like in the mood to read I think I'm gonna start maybe I'll include it in this Vlog and that'll be just like the final hurray of getting out of this slump compared to how I started this Vlog I'm definitely out of the slump I think we'll give it one more try and we'll see I am so excited to put this on my pretty bookshelf let's put it together it's gonna go right here it's so pretty I'm in a fantasy like romance fantasy like mood like I just want a good fantasy book so I think the next book is gonna be this one daughter of no world I've heard literally nothing but good things about this I think it's a Trilogy by Carissa Broadbent I've heard her writing is amazing I heard that the storyline's amazing I have High Hopes I want to read a book right now that sounds kind of dumb but like I want to pick up a book right now I think I'm getting out of my slump so this is now I guess the last book in this video I'm so excited let's start this I'm like giddy that I'm like happy about reading again because slums are the worst it literally feels like you're never gonna enjoy a book again and now I'm enjoying books so things are looking up let's start this I'm so excited [Music] thank you [Music] so it's been a couple days but I got to page 294 which is chapter 41. I'm about almost 60 percent of the way through so I really want to finish it today but I've read like so much of this and the beginning was a little bit slow like the storyline of the book was a little bit slow to get into but also it's the beginning of a fantasy like they're setting up so much for us to learn throughout the way so like that's that's fine I just want to say that her writing is exactly what I like going into a fantasy book because not once was I confused not once was I like having to put my brain power together and figure out what was going on with like the politics of the world and stuff like her writing is so easy to understand and it's so it flows so well and it's just like I love her writing like so so much I think once you hit like halfway like last night I hit halfway I was like speeding through it I was so excited to continue reading because more happens more of the romance happens more of the world that she's in something goes on and it's like really like I need to know what's gonna happen now so basically it's about this girl who was taken into slavery when she was young and she's been a part of it for eight years and she performs for merchants and people like that to get money in order to buy her Freedom so she eventually over the ears buys her Freedom something happened she flees she goes to the orders and the orders is basically this place where a bunch of wielders are and they're kind of their own I don't know how to explain what the orders are but that's where she goes because that's what's been in her mind when she buys her Freedom where she wants to be because she wants to help all the people that were enslaved like her back at home she goes there and she's put under this like Apprentice thing with Max and he's like so not about it because something happened with him in the orders back in the day like there's this whole history thing between them that I just found out what happened so I'm so excited to continue and see what's gonna happen now but yeah he was so against it but eventually slowly he started teaching her all these things and now she's like really good at it and she had not perform for the orders but she had to show her her skills and now things are happening between her and the orders and Max and there was like the romance that was happening that was like so so good I love her writing the storyline's finally picking up I'm excited to continue so far so good I'm just like really happy that I did this video because I think I'm I think I'm out of my slump but we'll finish this book together and that will okay goodbye I have finished daughter of no world okay let's do the little let's do the book review no yeah let's see the book review first I ended up giving this four and a half Stars I thoroughly enjoyed this I think this may be one of my favorite fantasies I haven't read like that many but like it's definitely up there her writing not once was I confused and I know that sounds like so dumb but like sometimes going into a fantasy like you have to like figure out all the new terms and the world and like kind of what's going on they don't just straight up tell you what's going on like you're just thrown into a new world the way she described what was going on like it was so like seamless her writing and her writing was so beautiful the character development by the end of it was just like astounding and Max the main guy character there is a romance in here it's not like huge but it's definitely there's a romance and he's not like a normal fantasy mailman character where they're like kind of morally gray and whatever like he is just like pure and perfect and I loved him there is also Spice in here but this is like a book where like I wouldn't be embarrassed like anyone reading because the spice that was in here was like it wasn't cringy which is like everything about this was so perfect I loved the storyline I didn't really know obviously where it was going to go reading the back of any fantasy books I'm just like okay we're just we're in for a ride but the storyline was so fun and so entertaining and like it is a 500 page book but like I could have read more and there is there's two other books so I'm excited to get to those I'm not gonna read them just yet I love the way it ended I loved everything about it like it was just so good so you have four and a half highly recommend to finish out this video I do want to say that this video was successful I am out of my slump I'm excited to read again I'm excited to go pick out a new TBR pick out books that I want to read I'm in a fantasy era I'm really happy about it because starting this video off I was so negative and I'm like no joke I was like convinced I was done with reading like reading wasn't for me again that's how bad the slump was and it's so dramatic because like obviously I was gonna read again but it literally in my head I was like I can't pick up a book I don't want to pick up a book I don't want to read I don't want literally anything to do with books right now that's how but slowly it worked and even the first book in this video tasted poison like I didn't want to read it like kind of low-key forced myself a little bit and I feel like that definitely helped forcing myself to read and continue until I liked it again I don't know but if you're in a slump just know that it definitely is the worst thing ever it's the worst feeling thinking you're never gonna like enjoy a book again but it's not true you will get out of it trust me this is this is literally visual proof my timer app I highly recommend it's called Flora you can go to different parts of the country and I now have a garden like you don't just grow trees you go to have flowers and fruits and stuff and you collect them after timing for however long you go I do 25 or 30 minutes and I get little presents not presents but like I get plants after it's a cute concept and I'm like obsessed with it so I've been doing that that really helped to stay off my phone it's just like that's like the hardest part I get so distracted especially when I'm in a slump it's like I don't want to be reading right now like I want to go on Tick Tock this was so fun I'm happy I made this into a video just to show that like not always reading and enjoying books and reading so fast like everyone gets in a slump it's so normal and I was really happy that I've come out the other side of this because I filmed the intro to this video and I was like going off about my slump and then I kind of filmed a little outro to it and I was like well this didn't work and I'm like no babe no it did work I will say one other thing that's helped me get out of my slump is rereading like Five Star reads or books I absolutely loved so I think I'm gonna do that anyway just to like I don't know I'm like kind of in a mood for that but that'll be another video that won't be in this video so hope you guys enjoyed
