hello everyone this is the mining geologist and i'm back again with another very exciting and very informative tutorial now i know that most of you guys are actually geologists uh mining engineers and geoscientists in general and you are following this channel because i share you know tips and tricks and tutorial about these mining packages and these geology packages and gis softwares in general so you might be thinking that this is a little bit different and how do i need this exactly so to answer that a question let me ask another question so you as a geoscientist i'm sure that you're doing some reports whether to your boss or to some of your clients okay let's say that you have the steady area or even the bit that you're working in and what is usually the first section that you start with in your presentation or your report now let me answer that question for you it's going to be the study area itself and usually what we do and i've done that myself is we go to google earth for example or use qgis or arcgis to make a simple flat satellite image with a star in the middle that with the name of that location and maybe the surrounding area uh with some known uh places to that and we probably add some uh roads uh to that location and voila if we if we put in that flat image in the report and we're done with that section now this is might work sometimes and the downside of that is you don't have an idea about the morphology so for example if you're describing an area with uh you know with a morphology let's say like this one and uh you can describe this with a bunch of words and do your best to describe that it was really hard to access location but if you throw in an image like this people are you know when they're reading the report and they look at the image they will feel what you felt in there and they will have an idea about that specific location so that's what i started to do recently is is instead of doing that i have uh this 3d or this isometric or this perspective image of that area and i put it in the presentation or the report and it gives a much better idea about that location of interest and the good thing is that you don't need any softwares to do this and you don't need um anything other than your browser that's that's all what you need and of course uh your internet connection and the first step and the most important step to do this is to go to my channel and subscribe of course that's a really important step so make sure to subscribe now also if you're kind enough and uh if you would like to see really good informations about geology mining engineering and so on make sure to follow me on facebook we have like 16 000 followers on facebook and the good news is that if you're that kind of professional guy i don't have facebook i'm sure you have a linkedin so make sure to follow me on linkedin we just started a linkedin page here and we have a thousand six hundred followers so far and if you are amazing and you would love to support this channel for more good quality content make sure to or um if you're kind enough of course make sure to support me with like one dollar a month or three dollar or five dollars on patreon so enough of this um these things and let's dive to the tutorial itself then for that we need to go to the website it's called 3dashmapper.com this is basically the website that we're going to be using you can see with the word pricing here means that it is not free well it is free but some features uh if you wanna for example download the 3d thing here that we've created you can go and pay for that per map and but if you want to just create a ma an image and use that in your reports it's totally free so i'm not going to show you how to create an account because i believe that most of you would do that it's not really that hard you have an email and uh you create a password and so on and you will have access to the website the next thing you'll see this create map and you can see that you have your dashboard here so you can go and click on create map and you can see now we have this world map and this little you know square box in here in the middle this is basically the area that we are going to model and you can go to anywhere in the world now if you don't know the exact location and you can locate that on let's say google maps or whatever you can go to advanced search in here you can throw in the link to the uh in the of the google maps uh the location of the area of interest in google maps you can throw in the link in here and click on go and it's gonna be located in here okay you can always use the latitude longitude coordinates to locate that image and you click on apply now you can see that the layer in here is displaying some google maps uh images so you can go and choose for example satellite or you can choose satellite street or you can choose open street map or whatever you want or maybe the topography here so we are going to stick to satellite and another good thing is that say that you have a gps path for example for uh your trip or whatever you can go to gps import here and you can import that a gpx or uh kml file which is a google earth uh file extension and import that and it's going to be shown as a path in here that you can just later on when you're happy with that you can go and create click on create map now this is going to take some time just a little bit like a minute or less than that 30 seconds to display that in 3d and you will get something like this so you'll get that location in 3d now let me show you a few tips so you'll have this here on the left side it's the menu you can see this one you can use this one for example to make that rotate and you can see it's amazing you can always uh probably record a video of this one and put this in your presentation and it looks just uh and another thing is let's say that your area is pretty flat so what you can do is you can add the elevation exaggeration in here you can see that it goes all the way up or down so when you're happy with that you can go and save this so basically this i have no idea what it does because you can see when i play around with the slider it doesn't do anything and there's the marker also you can see that i've added my name in there you can go and uh let's say call this location x for example and what you can do is you can choose for example this location and add that and you can see that's the location axe of interest and i like these kind of things in here now what we can do also we can play around with the water you can uh add some water in here you can add what play around with the model level or the turbulence in here and i really like this feature here and uh you can also go and play around with the uh light it depends and this is will make the texture you know uh better and then you have the texture itself you can play around with the uh you know these uh parameters and here the contrast and so on and then you can save this once now for the edges also you can change these edges to whatever you want maybe this will reflect the geology that is in that location and uh you can see this one looks like a geological model i i really like this and uh then we have the background you can uh for example if you wanted this to be transparent for your report you can turn on the transparency in here and this is uh transparent and you can choose whatever color for example that you want and you can put in the sky for example a cloudy sky or whatever you want so um then all you have to do is to click on snapshot and this will save the snapshot of this image for uh you in your uh computer you can also go and buy this map it's you will be able to render this in some 3d rendering software like blender or cinema 4d or 3ds max or whatever you want and if you're not happy with this area you can go and edit the area in here and change the location you can see that this one is still still generating the height map because we've chosen we've chosen a really uh big area but it should not take more than a minute or so this i think that's already finished but you got the idea you can see that it generated that area for us because it was a really big area then it looks flat in here but it depends on your location and if you play around with the parameters in here you will get a really good looking isometric uh map like this one that you can share whatever you want so if you like this video and if you like the content that i'm doing and there's one uh other way to support me is to like this video share it with anyone actually interested either on facebook on linkedin or whatever you've uh you find out about me and um with that being said see you in the next tutorial
