first story boss is a bee big boss is an a i show them up the whole company applauds the second story chaos unfolds after i leave work the third story worker doesn't adhere to the rules and was fired on to the first story feel free not to listen even though i worked there six years background so i work for a huge company with lots of divisions been there a decade as there's so many opportunities to move up across do the hokey cokey all over the structure it's been thrilling for the majority of my career i worked my way up one division and ended up being a senior manager in that original division here on known as od not very important but recognized by important people as being competent enough to own and run large projects well and be a generally cool dude i like that job but after a while the projects are all the same and i needed a new challenge q moved to new division and d the problem was there were no senior manager jobs going so i decided to take a manager job learn the ropes and hone my skills with teams i hadn't worked with previously this is when i learned that nd is very focused on job titles and how far up the totem pole you are now interestingly enough the first project i'm assigned to is actually one that's come about because of significant changes od were making something along the lines of they were ceasing making a specific product that they own but nd uses it a lot for their own purposes smashing i'd be talking to important people i used to work with in od maybe this won't be too bad the cast enter my new senior manager backstabbing b bb and her boss big b b beau at first it was just bibo and he was lovely new to the company eager to make his mark but we got on grade project was complex but we managed until we could get a senior manager on the project all hail the arrival of bb bb was on a mission to take control from day one she was a top performing senior manager and didn't miss an opportunity to tell you so i kept quiet on my own senior manager experience and left her to it life's too short she can feel as important as she wants to so as i'm used to making decisions working autonomously and know what i'm doing i did just that bb and bebo told me what needed to be done i scurried off and got it done this seemed to upset bb she didn't like that i was getting stuff done without her involvement and started to complain about me to bebo single-handedly destroying my relationship with him whatever none of this is the most important thing going on in my life where it clearly is for bb so have at it getting no reaction from me peeved her off so she then tells on me to my boss background managers and senior managers are in teams based on their skills project management analysts testers etc so i have a team boss who i report to and i get allocated to projects when they need me so although bb manages my work she's not my boss although no one seems to have told her this my boss calls me asking wtf since i'm generally awesome and get on with everyone a quick recap of recent events clues him in on what kind of person bb is and he drops it but suggests i involve her more fair enough no skin off my back pre-mc being the good little manager i am i write out my priorities for the week and send it to bb i go nuts with this thing everything from send email to person await response from person reply to person is documented and sent to her weekly with handy twice daily updates letting her know how far down my list i've gotten bb unamused calls for a meeting with me and my boss mega lulz boss and i are stifling laughter throughout said meeting as bb explains that i'm wasting time sending her all this information couldn't agree with you more bb boss highlights that she wanted to be more involved in what i do so what's the problem turns out the big problem is not that she doesn't know when i'm talking to important people it's that i'm talking two important people without her apparently these important people who can make her look good and get her name out there is awesome senior manager tm shouldn't be talking to a lowly manager like me contact should go through her more mega lulz but easily fixed the mc finally bb gets invited to all my meetings with important people before the first meeting i'm told that i'm just introduce her and let her take control fine i think she expected trumpets and a grand announcement of her presence but she had to settle for guys this is bb our senior manager she'll take the meeting bb gets all excited and goes into a massive rant about how apologetic she is that they've had to deal with just a manager all this time she's personally on the case and keeping a close eye on my work to make sure they get what they need from the project etc etc etc i can't accurately describe the look of sheer confusion on their faces but being the good guys they are they said okay uh cool and asked if we can get to the meeting agenda at one point in the meeting important people asked bb a very specific question about how xyz would impact such and such team in od bb we can assess that important person well you should ask the senior manager who implemented something similar on big project in od a couple of years ago bb oh yes excellent i'll ask him do you have his name important person actually she's right here points to me i'd like to say that a smug smile didn't cross my face as bb realizes that important people she's desperate to impress are all old friends of mine i've worked with for years but it did i answered the question and meeting continued afterwards i got reamed out in style by bb for embarrassing her in front of important people accused of lying to her and told on again to bibo who in turn screamed at my boss about me again much laughter was stifled bb has since gone on long-term sickness and bibo now gets the honor of receiving my weekly task emails he now largely leaves me to do my job doesn't complain to my boss anymore and even gave me a compliment on my work if i cared i might even have cracked a smile the next story is and this is my two weeks notice i worked at a local golf course for about seven years from when i was 13 to 20. when i had first started there my mother was the manager of all things food and beverage until that summer because she took on a different job working there for so long put me in line to be the new manager however i was not willing to take the position because i was enrolled in college and wouldn't have the time for it and considering my mother worked 100 plus hour weeks sometimes in our busy season i wasn't willing so they brought in addie to replace my mother as food and beverage manager and i was another regular employee the golf course also has a general manager who we'll call chad chad sucks he was creepy towards all the girls that worked there and had a terrible temper one similar to a toddler we never saw eye to eye on anything especially his management style and was always getting on my case even though i was the only person on the food and beverage side of things that knew what was up and how to do anything including addie so this brings us to the story i was working in our little restaurant serving our golf leagues to come in one league in particular liked to stay really late like 12am to 1am but i never really minded as i got along well with them and i became good friends with a lot of the members and they were always buying beer and shots so there was never much of an issue with it when addie started there chad decided to change up our dining room policies to close the restaurant at 10 30 pm this personally really aggravated me they were paying customers and i was happy to serve them and i was the only one that was usually serving them but chad kept going on about labor costs which if anyone reading this knows anything about serving i wasn't making much hourly and was relying on tips to make money so they put this into place and i tell chad it's his responsibility to tell the league they have to leave at 10 30 and not me he didn't and guess what the league members were peeved first mistake addie would not often or honestly never stay to help with the leagues but was adamant about the new hours as she's about to head out for the day she tells me that i'll be training two girls in the restaurant that night we have about 80 extremely needy golfers in the restaurant at once on this night in particular i barely had time to train one but she did not stay to help out with that looking back on it it was definitely not my responsibility to train anyone either but i was willing to help out as she was still getting adjusted to the job and she knew that and took advantage of it second mistake then mentions to me that if i'm not clocked out by 10 50 pm then i'll not be paid for any work after the fact third mistake i ended up training one of the girls on our pos computer and told her she was done for the day and that she can clock out and continue to train the other girl for the rest of the evening so when the league's left at 10 30 there was food on the floor bathrooms weren't cleaned trash was not taken out the tables were moved from their normal resting place and the drawer wasn't counted i told the girl i was training to move the tables and i counted the drawer well it's 10 50 now and i'm not working for free so we clocked out and left could i have done more absolutely but i needed to prove a point the next morning i had many missed calls from chad and addie i didn't have to come in for two days so i just let them keep calling so on the next shift day i had i finally called chad back he told me to come in for a meeting with him and addie when i get there he gives me a story about how he had to come in and clean everything up with addie and why would i ever do something like that i told him that addie not only had me training two people on our busiest night of the week alone but i also had to be out at 10 50 or i was told i wasn't being paid after going back and forth about how addy was just kidding and i shouldn't take things so seriously i had finally had enough of chad in his antics i told them i was putting in my two weeks and the looks on their faces were as if i had shot someone right in front of them it was awesome i continued to work for the next two weeks doing everything i was supposed to and training addie on any little detail i could think of before i left after my two weeks was up i ended up getting calls from addie and chad all the time because nothing was going right i was asked again by chad to take addie's position on and addie was calling me telling me how impossible chad is to work with it was truly beautiful to watch all the chaos unfold after i left addie ended up quitting a month after because her and chad couldn't get along i don't miss much about that job or place but i do miss my regulars every day the last story is don't touch your stuff if you insist i work in a huge refrigerated food safe production and warehouse facility we process and manufacture all sorts of food products and related ingredients and the company is rightly so super paranoid about any sort of foreign material winding up in the food we're talking plastic coveralls and whatnot for everyone coming into contact with it very strict handling rules etc one wrong move that could even potentially introduce anything foreign to the line was grounds for instant termination enter our star a man i'll call ned ned was in the quality analysis and assurance qaa department inspecting the products and keeping track of his findings on reports he had to fill out every 30 minutes or so for this task the company entrusted him with a clipboard and a pen though to be safe it's a special pin with a metal stripe that would be spotted by one of the plant's many metal detectors along the line were it to ever somehow fall in while it didn't take much imagination to conjure up what would happen to whatever fool dropped their company had issued name and grave pen into the product this didn't dissuade ned from setting his clipboard paperwork and pen in all sorts of wild and precarious places including on machinery and on support structures overhanging the line my friend and the man who conveyed this story to me said that ned would go berserk anytime anyone would move his stuff and a place ned seemed to favor was atop a control box of a machine my friend operated at the time this machine overhung the line somewhat and bordered a busy walkway that both employees and logistics moved supplies down all day my friend ned battled over the spots that ned would leave his stuff but in the end ned seemed to win the fight he carried considerable favor with the supervisor at the time and so all attempts to notify management about this issue came up empty leaving my friend looking like a jerk who kept moving another employee's critical tools very well my friend conceded if ned didn't want anyone to touch his stuff he sure wouldn't touch it it wasn't long after when the inevitable happened ned had left his clipboard in its usual spot and the machine was bumped by a logistics operator passing by with a heavily loaded powered pallet jack the clipboard and pen tumbled from the machine and down into the food rushing past on the conveyor belt i guess ned managed to turn around to see it as his face is described as priceless just moments before the clipboard and pen passed under one of the metal detectors about six feet down the line an alarm went off like a bank was being robbed and the conveyor system was emergency stopped further up by workers panicked by the unfamiliar noise between a metal detector hid at this point in the line as well as an emergency stop the whole of upper management was roused as well as the technicians from the qaa department to figure out what had gone so terribly wrong well they took one look verified it was ned's stuff and he was taken to the office never to return the resulting investigation got two more people fired and the supervisor who'd quite literally let it slide quit to pursue other interests not long after that policies were changed that if employees company issued equipment was ever found in non-designated areas that it would be grounds for immediate termination and at least one other employees discovered that was no idle threat since this all happened it's not known whether ned appreciated that my friend had stopped moving his stuff though some things will forever be shrouded in mystery thank you for listening have a good one
