hello everybody hey y'all it's thursday let's see what is today's date march the 25th thank you all for joining me i've had fun and chatting with you before the live thanks for hanging out with me today we're gonna do some jelly plating on fabric it is so much fun i have some pictures to share with you before we get started of a quilt that i made that's hanging up downstairs that was so much fun and uh yes if you're watching on the replay i hope you stick around just a little warning before we get started i feel extra particularly chatty today so if you're watching on the replay and you're like oh my lord she's just talking way too much this is not going to be a quick video on how to jelly plate print on fabric there's tons of them on youtube so my suggestion would be to go find one of those fast ones if you're if you have all your stuff out and you're like okay how do i do this you might want to watch one of the faster videos and then come hang out with us uh one of the reasons why i do the live stream each week is to hang out with my extended family all over the world and uh yeah just to spend some time with everybody y'all okay so before uh we get started today i want to show you all something i just unhooked my my phone uploaded a picture of my orchid i can't believe this i was sitting here waiting look at look at my orchid i was sitting here waiting for the live stream and i was reading comments from everybody and you know talking a little bit and i just happened to look up the orchid that you see is just right over my head i almost threw this away five or six times in this past year because it just looks so sad i mean look at the leaves they're kind of just like ugh does anybody have orchids my nana she had several orchids every year they bloomed beautifully for her my nana is now in heaven how do you take care of this should i trim off the thing that had the blooms that's connected to that pole should i trim that off and then prop up the little blooms on that stick what do i do how do i fix this how can i keep it going hold on one second because i can't see the live chat i need some help with my orchid there we go hello everybody i wasn't seeing any comments come through i see them now hello hello hello everybody so if i can get some help with my orchid that would be fantastic y'all see us just kind of drooping over there i i just looked up and it and it was there the blooms were there and i was like oh my glory dari thank you you'll do some research i don't know how to take care of it what to do is it okay to trim last year's little sprouty thing that had the flowers on it i don't know but yeah i am so excited it's the simple things right all right so uh let me go over a few announcements before we get started dates to remember mark your calendar next monday we have a craft room tour y'all are so messed up dee's craft room tour last night i shared the wrong i clicked the wrong url and pasted it in the live and so when we streamed last night for dee's craft room tour the thumbnail showed the live for this i'm so sorry d fortunately a lot of people were able to find us anyways but yeah i'm so sorry about that i've changed the thumbnail so when you see dee's thumbnail on my channel that is her real craft room tour so if you missed it check that out but monday the uh is that the 29th i think it's the 29th i didn't write the date down 12 o'clock p.m i'm sharing melanie's craft room tour i think melanie's here with us and after the live today i'm zooming with her to make sure everything is set up i'm so excited she seems so funny she has the best personality so i want you to tune in on monday and then y'all okay so next week we usually live stream on thursdays next thursday we leave to go camping and that's gonna be a super super huge busy day so we're going to live stream on wednesday before we go camping and the thumbnail's already up we're making this bunny towel all supplies from the dollar tree i'm excited about that i'll show you that here in a second hello everybody thank you dori for researching that for me i guess i could have just googled it but i just realized my orchid sue yes you can sue ask can i use acrylic paints for table toppers absolutely i'm going to show you something that you can add to your acrylic paints to turn them into fabric paints so they'll be permanent in your table toppers stay tuned for that uh yeah those are the two dates to remember so next week's live wednesday not thursday and uh so today we do have a chat topic i don't want to forget about it like i did last week free time what do you do in your free time how much free time do you have and what do you wish you had more time to do just answering the chat topic myself my free time is usually spent in the studio isn't that funny i work in here but if i have any free time i'm usually in here doing something but i don't call that time work and what do i wish i had more time to do hang out with family uh i wish i had more time to hang out with family everybody is growing up and working and they have responsibilities and you know i wish we all had more free time to hang out together thank you susan i just made this shirt a few days ago i sublimated it with my new printer so much fun okay on the screen i'm gonna pull up a slideshow it's gonna go through a progression of photos okay so this is a quilt that i did pardon me uh when did i do this about a year and a half ago is it gonna do the slideshow yeah there we go it's changing photos but slowly so that you can see them this is uh some close-up photos of some blocks that i made with my jelly plate it's so much fun you will see a full photo of this quilt here in just a minute uh but yes so i printed these squares on my jelly plate like we're gonna do today on white muslin fabric with fabric paint or acrylic paint that i've added fabric medium to and uh the stencil the one with the flower and the little pieces in the corners i made that stencil myself using my brother's skin and cut and i took a laminating pouch laminated the laminating pouch just by itself through the laminator put that sheet on my cutting mat and cut out the stencil that i used to make this quilt so combining several different crafty things i was able to make this quilt which was so much fun i'm gonna let that go so there you go there's a full view of this quilt that was fun that was so much fun i want to make sure all of the pictures go through now i have put links in the description box for most of the stuff i'm using today if you want to check it out or learn more about it links to most of everything is in the description box but y'all a lot of this stuff can be found at your local art stores your local crafting stores and all kinds of places online so um yeah shop local if you can the jelly plates are hard to find like at uh the big box stores sometimes you can go to the big box store online and order it that way uh but i was fortunate enough to find a local mom-and-pop art shop in vermont on one of our trips and so that's where i got the jelly plate i'm using today but you can find it on amazon as well terry said what's the difference with muslin compared to quilting cotton you want to put it through the printer usually quilting cotton tends to be a little bit thicker like if you go to the quilt shop and you hold up some muslin there's all different grades of muslin you'll notice a price difference on all the different bolts of muslin there's some that you can actually see through really well and then there are some that have a higher thread count and it's softer uh that's more like a quilter's cotton and usually the quilter's cotton you have a hard time seeing through i've printed on muslin and white kona quilting cotton so um you can experiment with all of it what i like to do before i start a project that i know i'm going to be printing on fabric and i am not sure about the fabric that i want to use i'll go to the store and buy quarter yards of a few different ones and make sure you mark it right because you might not get a piece of the salvage that tells you what is what mark it in the store and uh test out your printing and then then you can make a purchase of however much you need of that particular fabric all right y'all i think the slideshow has gone through this is just one of the things that you can do with the jelly plate printing on fabric and making quilts out of it you could do this on t-shirts jeans jean jackets tote bags all kinds of things and of course your papers for those who enjoy paper crafting paper arts art journaling this is not just for fabric you can do it on all kinds of stuff all right so as we go through if you have questions for me it would be really easy or much easier for me if you type your questions in all caps that helps me not miss them but it also doesn't guarantee that i won't miss them either so be patient with me as we're going through today all right so i'm going to switch it over oh i got distracted for a second i'm going to switch you over to the cutting mat where i do have the project for next week the thumbnail is already up for this there is the free pattern for the bunny and i've done it uh right side up for those who like to use freezer paper with their applique and i've also included a mirror imaged tracing template for those of you who like to use fusible like i do a lot and uh so the pattern is in the description box of next week's video it's already on the channel this was inspired by a farmhouse looking towel that my aunt has it has a bunny on it and i was like where did you get that towel and she's like either it was tj maxx or marshall somewhere i said is i love it so much i bet you i could make one that's kind of similar to it so i went to the dollar tree all this this and this came from the dollar tree so uh yes check out your dollar tree you have until next wednesday we're going to be making this little easter bunny farmhouse hand towel it's going to be so much fun what is jelly printing i'm getting ready to show you i think you're going to love it i think you're going to love it before we do in case you missed this video i just posted this yesterday a quick and fast way to do raw edge if you're like me and you love to do raw edge applique but the thought of sewing down all of these little pieces is going to stop you from doing the project i showed you how you can layer your project with tool and do minimal quilting look at all of these individual pieces i started and finished this table topper in one afternoon so yeah check out that video and then day before yesterday i showed you this one painting on quilts and i used the inktense paint pan set and this was a lot of fun so if you missed this video check it out all right now we're getting to the good stuff what has it been like 20 minutes i told you i feel extra chatty today okay so let me show you my jelly plate and y'all i didn't count the different jelly plates that i have but i have about nine different ones i think it was sheila was it sheila who asked before we started if uh if she could only buy one jelly plate what size would she recommend i would say if your budget said okay only get one jelly plate i would say get the biggest one that your budget allows because you can do smaller projects on a bigger jelly plate but you can't do bigger well you could i mean but it would take multiple prints it's easier to go bigger than it is to do bigger projects with a smaller jelly plate if that makes sense so this one is six by six you can see i paid 21.99 in a local mom and pop shop in vermont however the link i shared on amazon you can get them from 12 74 upwards to 20 depending on who you buy it from a lot of the people who sell on amazon are mom and pop shops who just happen to sell on amazon so there you go okay so this is the one we're using today i have two pieces of glass because these really like to cling to glass surfaces see this is just glass that i took out of a picture frame from the dollar tree i'm going to put them side by side and put my jelly plate right on that yeah i have all different sized ones i have some really small ones which is fun for doing like journaling kind of stuff making tags and stuff like that and i have some really great big ones too and that's great for printing large pieces of fabric or if you were going to like do the back of a jacket or something like that yes there are also it comes in these little plastic you have to take this plastic off there are are also quite a few videos here on youtube on how you can make your own jelly plate so if you're interested in that i would do a youtube search how to make a jelly plate see just like that it clings to the glass and i'm going to put a couple pieces of paper underneath of it to help you see okay i think that will help a lot now here's the thing about jelly plating either on paper or on fabric is i don't always get the results that i think i'm gonna get it's like one big creative experiment okay so you have to go in this knowing that the results are going to vary you never really actually know what it's going to look like until you pull the print see there's my stained up jelly plate you can actually see the stain from where i printed the blocks for the quilt that i showed in the beginning see that perfectly fine perfectly fine all right so before the video cut a whole bunch of uh i couldn't tell you exactly what muslin this is uh but it's a whole bunch that i bought at joann's it's not exactly white it's a little bit of a cream color i'm not sure if that's showing up on the camera or not but i cut a whole bunch of six and a half by six and a half inch squares so they're a little bit larger than uh than my jelly plate so that would give me a seam allowance right if i wanted to use these squares in a quilt one day that would be fun and then i have a great big stack off to the side right here of just copy paper that's how i clean my brayer this is just a ranger brayer we're going to use that to spread the paint around i have a variety of different kinds of paints that we're going to experiment with today i have these arteza fabric paints i've showed some videos of me using these these are fabulous i love them i also have some lumineer paint which is really pretty it's got like some metallic uh finishes to it there's all different kinds of lumineer products out there they work so well on fabric so we're gonna play with some of these i do have some speed ball printing ink that this one's for fabric and then y'all you can use a variety of different crafting paints that you can find in the paint aisle at your local crafting store now if you use these on fabric you might want to pick up some fabric medium okay and this is the golden gac 900 but in the aisle where you fix so there's all the paints that we're going to use [Music] okay are y'all ready i have several different techniques that i'm going to share with you today uh yeah and we're gonna go ahead and get started let me break out some of this paint anitra was so funny she said that's the next craft to invest in her hubby is gonna need meds yeah i'm sorry let's see let's break out some of these colors we have all kinds of colors this one came with ten colors and when i tried to find a link for the ten color set i could not find a link but uh the next set up had 20 colors show it so i share to that link all right y'all are you ready i'm going to go ahead and shake some of this paint up try not to get any on my new white shirt we'll see how that goes we're going to just add a couple of little dots of paint these jelly plates you don't need lots and lots of paint i'm going to add a little bit of this magenta color just like that and like that we're going really simple for this first print okay we're just going to spread this paint around these fabric paints are really kind of translucent so it might not show up very well on the jelly plate and to clean my brayer i'm just going to roll it right here on a scrap piece of paper i save all of these papers because i use them in my art journal so they are not wasted and we're going to pull our first print so i'm just going to lay this fabric which i should have pressed first right onto my jelly plate like that sometimes if you've used a lot of paint it might be helpful to cover it with a piece of paper and then you're just gonna rub i don't know why my camera shakes it must be touching the table i'm sorry you're just rubbing that fabric right into the paint just like that you can even take your brayer and go over it just like that we're going to pull the fabric right up just like this and that's going to give us some yellow paint onto our fabric now what's really cool is that you can heat set this you can stitch through it you can layer this with other things and uh yeah you can wash it and a washer so there is a yellow background with just a hint of magenta i must have not used that much we're going to set that one off to dry let's take some blue paint we'll add a little bit more this time and let's add a little bit of red stephanie the paint transfers just by adding some pressure to it yep we're just spreading that paint around just like this you can see i used a way too much we'll grab another piece of fabric and we'll pull a print on this one i'm really trying not to shake the camera i should probably move the camera so it doesn't do that i'm sorry so yeah we're just adding pressure pushing that fabric into the paint just like that so there is some purple red and blue we'll set that over to dry and we'll come back to that in a little bit let's see let's mix up some of this lumineer paint i want to show you how you can pull prints using stencils we'll bring out some of the aqua and some of the purple so just applying paint to your jelly plate and spreading it around gives you some beautiful backgrounds okay but you can also get creative with all kinds of stamps embossing folders uh stencils bubble wrap bubble wrap is one of the fun things that i love to use all kinds of things that you have laying around the house that'll give you textures like doilies and lace all right so we're going to spread that around clean off the brayer we're going to bring in this fun stencil that my mom lent me thanks mom we'll lay it right over top and we'll push our fabric right through there yeah eli said you could also clean your brayer on another piece of fabric yes yes you could [Music] i'm just really pushing that paint right through there just like this i had a jelly plating day with my mom and i was all excited about it and she was too at first she didn't enjoy the jelly plate as much as i did i don't know why i could sit here and pull prints all day i could do it all day so that's really fun see that i don't know why i'm getting streaks in my jelly plate but what's also really fun is that you can take this off and start creating layers let's bring in this yellow one it's almost dry and while that's still wet we can pick up what the stencil left behind so everywhere that had the cutout for the stencil that was still on the jelly plate it was protected by the stencil and now we can start adding layers oh see that yes oh i even like it even though that that's missing paint right there i still kind of like that a lot the lumineer paint has a little bit of a metallic finish to it so i don't know if you're picking that up or not from the window but in person the purple is metallicy and shiny and sparkly which is really pretty so that's gonna be pretty let's see let me see if there's any more paint on this jelly plate let's pick that up patricia i'm not sure if um if hobby lobby carries them or not you might want to check with them the streaks are from my brayer they probably are to clean your jelly plate just pull a couple prints until it comes off nice and clean just like that [Music] i'm gonna have to clean all these stencils before i bring them back to my mom let's pick out another stencil oh that one's kind of fun let's do that one this one i'm gonna use some of the crafting paint and you can see i just put a few drops of this onto my jelly plate try not to get any of the hard crunchy stuff if that drops on your jelly plate try to get that off so there's a little bit of paint and now i'll bring in hopefully my nozzle is not clogged up i'm going to mix this uh fabric medium yep it's clogged let's see if i can do this without making a big mess dory i just cleaned my stencils with a little brush and uh like dawn dawn dish soap oh that's too much lisa i should have tried to make sure that my uh nozzle was not clogged up before we started of course it would be easier to clean your stencils if the paint is still wet right they'll probably dry up a little bit before we're done with the live so i'm just going to mix that fabric medium right into this paint right here on the jelly plate you could though mix it into a cup right and then and then put it right on your jelly plate too i don't know why my jelly plate is like super resistant today it's because we're live y'all it's because we're live as soon as we pull this print i'm going to flip it over because i might be using the side i've never used before i don't know maybe see let's put the stencil on there like that and let's pull over this purple piece that we did before just like that ah twisted little mama designs that's a good idea she said keep them in a tub of water it'll keep the the paint wet while you're working on them that is so smart yes oh i wish my camera didn't shake like that that's annoying so there's that with the teal printed right on it isn't that pretty oh that's so pretty we'll go ahead and lift that stencil up and let's pull a print from what's left behind see everything left behind let's see if we can pick that up on a piece of fabric ooh susan just looked it up hobby lobby does carry the jelly plates yay so there's it looks kind of distressed right which i am a huge fan of i think that's a lot of fun we'll do something else with that here in a minute uh to clean my jelly plate if i have paint that's kind of resistant and it's just sticking on there i squirt it with some water you know you can get these little squirt bottles at the dollar tree i'll move that pane around a little bit like this moving it around moving it around i'm getting ready to flip this jelly plate over maybe the other side will behave better for me today we'll see we shall see we're just gonna put a piece of copy paper on there and pull off this paint terry said i love the distressed look it matches my life yes oh i totally agree i totally agree the ghost prints are sometimes prettier than the actual print i think so too i don't know why i tend to i tend to like those even better all right so we're just going to pull the majority of that extra paint right off pretty much cleaning up that jelly plate and i'm going to flip it over because i think maybe the other side will behave better i hope i hope all right so let's bring in some metallic speedball inc connie asked a really good question could you paint by hand and then transfer that i think you could i think you could connie let me find a paint brush to get some of this out i'm trying to do this without making a big royal mess i'm going to put some of this silver metallic speedball paint right on there like that and no kidding when you when you do a project like this it's probably good to have a good afternoon and really just take your time and have fun with it i feel like sometimes i rush things when i'm live so here i'm mixing some of the arteza fabric paint with the metallic speedball fabric ink so you can mix the mediums that you're working with you can have all different types of or brands of paint going on let's see if i can do this like that there we go now let's see i have a paper doily here that would be awesome so here's some paper doilies we'll put that just like that and just for fun let's do some swirlies in the background like this i don't really know that swirlies would go with the paper doily but you know now we'll just lay our fabric right over top and press that right in sheila said big royal mess oh my you might be onto something sheila she said big royal mess would be the name of her youtube channel you know what you might be on to something susan i would pre-wash my fabric if you're going to do a project that you want to be washed i would pre-wash my fabric first and that just removes any of the sizing and whatever they do to the fabric to prepare to sit on the shelf you know get all of that out and then do it a lot of my quilts uh that i would do this for are art quilts and so i predominantly don't pre-wash but most certainly if you were doing it in a quilt project or on a t-shirt you might want to pre-wash it first so we're just gonna pull this up and see what happened ah okay so we got the basic outline shape of the doily i think maybe the doily is too fine of a print two little holes let's see if we can pick something else up let's see if we can pick up any of this paint that was left behind maybe oh we did it's it's ghosted but it's on there see that there's a little bit of the design i see it better in person than i do what's showing up on the camera i do think that the swirls are pretty don't you think that i'm just setting those off to the side to dry for a little bit let's turn over some of this paper or get a new sheet to clean the sprayer really good can you use a doily as a stamp oh let's try it let's try it and see let me try to pick a color that's really going to show up like blue i do have some stamps and so i'll bring those out here in just a second [Music] we're going to spread the blue paint around let's use this doily we'll stamp it right in like that try not to get too much paint on my hands so we've removed that bit of paint right there and we'll see what we can pick up no that's too wrinkly i would pre-wash and press your fabrics first why did you add fabric medium to one and not the rest miss connie these uh the paints that i'm pulling a print from right now are fabric paints and so they're formulated for fabric to be washed and to be soft on fabric the other one that i did this is just normal acrylic crafting paint and so that would wash out or extremely fade if you washed it and it's not particularly soft on fabric when it's dry but if you add the fabric medium to it it changes the paint to be used on fabric all right let's see what we got here oh yes see like i said in the beginning it's all like a great big experiment uh you kind of you have to go into it knowing that the results are going to be different each and every time you pull a print i've done this so many times and i've never pulled the same print twice i think that's one of the reasons why my mom wasn't a huge fan of this because she she wants guaranteed results uh and with doing this it's just not guaranteed what it's going to look like and you just have to go into it with the expectation of having fun and uh being creative so that was the doily just lightly pressed and removing a little bit of that paint i didn't want to get too much paint on my fingers so we're going to let that dry for a second stereo uh terry yeah you can use stencils all kinds of stencils i have a great big stack of different stencils you can create your own stencils uh but yeah any kind of stencil works really great i'm gonna put some of this white on there and we'll mix in let's see let's mix in some of this blue not a lot just a little tiny drop so predominantly get the white going in the background like this and then we'll mix in some blue like that clean that off now here is uh from the dollar tree some of the anti-stick shelf liner that's really fun for a background so i'm just going to stick that in there just like that pull that off set that aside and we'll see what that looks like what white do you like better arteza or inktense or acrylic i think uh miss sue it depends on what kind of project i'm doing uh i'll tell you here lately anytime i've needed to use a white i've been using this speedball uh screen printing ink because it's very opaque and it's so soft you do have to heat set it when you're done okay but it's so soft uh it's formulated for printing t-shirts right but uh i've been mixing this in with my inktense and with some acrylics and right now i would say this is my favorite i tend to go through seasons though if you ask me that in six months i might say something totally different so that didn't hardly show up at all we're going to redo that it is a gorgeous background though the sad thing is the camera's not really picking much up you can kind of see it that way but let's try that again let's try it with some of this maybe maybe it'll show up better this way all right this time i'm not going to drop any fabric medium in it because my quilt that i'm making is going to be an art quilt and i don't want to waste the fabric medium and a project that i know i'm not going to wash okay just keep that in mind trying to spread that around without splashing too much let's try that again oh that's a little bit let's see what that looks like sheila said you could totally do this all day i i have spent many long afternoons pulling prints not just on fabric on paper too because i think it's a lot of fun to do on paper too connie yeah you would heat set this whatever the instructions are for the type of paint that you're using like this one the instructions say to heat set uh select the correct temperature for the fabric and iron and heat set on the reverse side for at least 30 seconds so each different kind of fabric paint that you're using or fabric medium will have instructions whatever those instructions say to do that's how you would heat set it that's how you would do it [Music] oh very pastelly see i don't know if you can see the little holes that the uh that matte created but it's very very fine very light let's leave that right on there and we'll build on top of that let's see we'll bring in some blue [Music] oh goodness this has been sitting around for a while bringing in the blue we can get it going there we go i want to pick up that juicy stuff that came out there we go [Music] jackie said oh boy something messy she could do yes there we go there we go i feel like the fabric paints are so translucent that it's really hard to get like solid prints from them this time i'm going to take uh an embossing folder this is one of my cricut cuttlebug embossing folders isn't that pretty let's do a print of this let's see what side do we want to use let's use this side just going to lay that right in there i'll have to clean this after the live i'm just pushing it down hopefully picking up some of that paint and lifting it up see that and now we'll pull a print from that is that harlan in the background do you see a man in the back behind me oh the car no that's my neighbor that's my neighbor can you use lace as a stencil yeah i have a piece of lace we'll see how it turns out i think the more openness on your lace the better your results will be and i'll show you that here in a second i picked out a lace that might not be the best to use for jelly plate printing but we'll see all right let's see what that does now that i know you can see that isn't that pretty oh my goodness yes finally a good print so i've gone through several although i'm building up color on those fabrics and my suggestion is if you get a print that you're not in love with put it off to the side and keep pulling prints on it because you're just building up colors and textures and eventually you'll fall in love with that piece of fabric so there's that one isn't that pretty i'm gonna set that aside you know what we still have paint on the jelly plate can you see that what's left behind i'm just going to let it sit and dry for a second we're going to see if we can't lift that up on one of the previously printed pieces that we've done we're just going to let this dry for a second do you have a paisley stencil let me see i borrowed a whole bunch of my mom's let's see if she has one i'm just gonna let this dry for a second or a minute it might already pretty much be there so i have some of this lace that we'll try see that pretty lace we'll try that and while that's sitting and drying let me see if we have a paisley stencil i don't have a lot of stencils myself but my mom has a whole bunch of them so i went and borrowed some from her let's see we have that one oh we have the honeycomb that's cool we have triangles oh i kind of really like that let's put that off to the side let's see that one is not paisley let's continue searching that's kind of pretty let's set that aside see look my mom didn't clean her stencils from when she did jelly plating she was like no i've had enough of this that's it so there's still paint on that one we're gonna see if it comes off oh that's kind of pretty we'll do that one too i'm not seeing a paisley one in here unfortunately but you can see there's a whole big variety of different manufactured stamps or excuse me stencils no paisleys though let me put those off to the side all right so that's nice and dry uh connie you want to let it dry so that when you apply new paint onto it it doesn't smear the design so just like that it's dry right we're going to pull let's see which paint do we want to use let's use some of this let's use some white and see what happens beverly yes you can use rubber stamps too i i pulled a couple of those out so what we're gonna do we're gonna pull this print and we're gonna experiment with some lace we're gonna experiment with a couple more uh stencils one that has paint dry on it just in case you know you're like me or my mom who leaves paint on your stencils and then i have a couple of rubber stamps we'll experiment with all right so now i'm gonna put some of this white paint right over top there we go just a little bit you can tell this paint is old it's clumpy i'm just going to put white paint right over top of this it's going to re-wet the design that's underneath and it's important to keep in mind that what is ever on your jelly plate first that's what's going to be on top when you pull a print so the white paint on this print is actually going to be underneath of that design let's grab a piece of fabric lay it right on there and press it in terry said i think i'm going to go down the tunnel jelly plate rabbit hole i'm going to tell you what terry i think you're going to have fun just really pushing that fabric right into that paint adding some pressure putting the piece of copy paper over top of it really helps a lot plus if you're messy like me it keeps your hands a little bit more clean you can take your brayer and just go over it like that ah and you can't really hardly see the design at all that's a stinker it's kind of ghosted in there a little bit but not a lot all right so you know what that'll be a background let's see if we can get some of this paint off ew [Music] i'm just gonna wet this with some paint we're gonna try and get this blue paint off like that clean the brayer bring in a piece of copy paper that's going to lift hopefully ah hopefully lift most of that off i'm going to try to fix my camera y'all so next week it's not so shaky all right so there's most of the paint we've pretty much cleaned the jelly plate there's still a few more places left so let's bring in some more of this lumineer fabric paint some green and some rose gold we're gonna experiment with this stencil that has dried up paint on it let's see what that does so some drops drops drops drops drops drops you could do it all one color but i like to mix my colors drop drop drop drop and mixi mixy mixy have y'all tried painting on fabric with these lumineer paints they are gorgeous if you like to paint on fabric like what i did with the hexagon quilt table topper i think you would like these lumineer paints all right so this stencil has some dried up paint on it i don't know if you can see that or not we're just going to lay it right down like that and we will pull this print [Music] is the lumineer your favorite oh i have a hard time picking a favor favorite fabric paint i like so many i do really like the lumineer i'm gonna be honest the lumineer is pricey okay i'll put a link in the description box you can check it out but the lumineer products are pricey but they are worth it okay they're very gorgeous but they're a little pricey and then you have you know your fabric paints that are a little bit more easier on the budget like the arteza those are great paints too those are great so there's that one see that oh that's kind of fun and what's really cool about the lumineer paint is even though you might not be able to see that on the camera there is a metallic sheen to them so if you like doing darker projects like painting on black fabric lumineer is gorgeous painted on black fabric we're going to let that dry and then we're going to pull over this print that we previously did we're going to pull that stencil off and while that paint is still wet this time we're going to put it onto a print that we pulled a few minutes ago did it pull nope all it did was add more paint to that stencil it didn't pull off any of the dried paint that was on there now it's just coated in lumineer paint have you tried gillettos anitra i have not however i've seen people doing it uh sheila i think you could use alcohol inks on this too now you might stain your jelly plate which is fine uh if you were here when i first pulled out this jelly plate it's not pretty and clear anymore it's kind of dyed sort of a green color that does not transfer to your prints uh so in a lot of jelly plating videos here on youtube you see people who use their jelly plate all the time their jelly plates are not clear anymore alcohol inks might stain your jelly plate but i'm pretty sure you could use them all right let's see what that did oh so there's what we picked up that was covered by this stencil that's really fun so this is actually two different prints remember the aqua print that we printed with the mesh from the dollar tree that was the first print and now we're picking up the ink that was left over or the paint that was left over from the stencil so we're just creating layers and layers you know what i'm just going to leave that just like that we're going to build right on top of it i'll bring in some gold speed ball paint i'm trying not to contaminate my stuff there we go just adding a little bit of that right on there clean that off and i'll say this y'all y'all are so patient to hang out with me today one thing about the jelly plate is it you can't really be structured and be like do it this way do it that way because one thing's for sure is you cannot guarantee the way it's gonna come out but if you just like being creative and messing with paint and fabric or paper then i really think you'd enjoy doing this all right let's pull over let's do this stencil and let's print this on one that has a little bit of a darker background that we've already done so i'm going to bring in this one that it was kind of stamped with the doily right i'm just going to lay that right on top and pick that paint up oh i love jerry's arterama sheila we have one in virginia beach are we dead i hope they're still open i heard they were closing sandra said what fabric do you like to use i like to use all of it i've done this with all kinds of fabric i don't know that i would say i have a favorite for today i'm using just a like a medium grade muslin because you can get that pretty and ex inexpensively right but it's still nice enough that if i wanted to make a quilt out of these blocks i could do that but i've printed on high quality quilters cotton i've printed on some really cheap muslin today i'm using i would call this like a middle grade muslin it's not the most expensive and it's not the cheapest oh so that's fun so there's that of course you can't it's not picking up any of the metallics in these paints on the camera i can see it though it's pretty i'm gonna set that over to dry and let's pull a new piece of fabric we will pick up whatever paint is left behind by the stencil [Music] just like that y'all i feel like uh if i've missed any of your questions if you can repeat them for me because the chat goes by so quick and it's in little tiny writing and so it's very possible that i've missed your questions so now we're picking what was left up by this oh y'all that is so pretty oh my goodness could you imagine doing all your blocks like this but using different colors and then making a quilt from that wouldn't that be gorgeous again you can't see the metallics but they're there and they're so pretty wow i like that one that's probably my favorite print of the day so far let's see what else can we do let's pull in purple you all know purple is my favorite color i still have some of this on my jelly plate we'll see if any of that transfers maybe maybe not the stencil we're getting ready to use predominantly we'll cover this up we'll see what happens one of the tips y'all that a lot of people give less paint you get better results don't flood your jelly plate like i'm doing less paint is more when using your jelly plate if you get too much just clean your brayer off like this like that let's see what happens when we use this pretty stencil it's going to cover most of this purple up so our first print is just going to be what you see so let's find something that we've already pre-printed like this and see if we can't get that design to come through teresa said i'm sold i'm getting a jelly plate well just so y'all know i don't you know they don't pay me to use these things in my videos i do provide links because i'm an amazon affiliate and if you use the links i get like a tiny little commission right but they don't pay me to use their products in my videos so when i use stuff it's because i use it in real life and i've bought it myself with my money and i'm either experimenting with it to see how well it does or because i really love it and i want you to get excited about it too or think about trying it out or sparking you know ideas i love my jelly plates i really do all right so there's the first print can y'all see that that came through that's kind of pretty but let's find another one what we're going to do is use this previous one that we used the stencil with the paint on it we're going to take this off and see if we can't pick up anything that's left behind we'll see what happens maybe maybe not there's no guarantee could you use a clean brayer instead of rubbing the fabric yep now this fabric wants to shift it kind of works better with uh paper when you're doing this but i'm using my brayer and i'm also trying not to shake the camera see the camera moving around i don't know why it's doing that now we'll pull that off it transferred purple oh you can kind of see the flower a little bit do you see it see right there there's a little hidden flower in there you never know let's pull in some of this lace so this one let's actually cut let's do a border that would be pretty i'm gonna cut four pieces of this lace like that and then let's see i have a paper towel here i'm going to scrunch up a paper towel all right let's do some dark colors so you can really see this sheila yes that is a good word to describe it it looks a lot like a batik yes so there is some blue there's some blue and i'll add a little bit of aqua to it uh connie answering your question uh sometimes when you put the paint on really thick like this is pretty thick sometimes depending on the paint it doesn't want to stick to the plate very well and you just end up making a big smeary mess right see that so if you take some of that paint off and then move it around you blend your colors a lot easier oh see that isn't that pretty goodness that was a lot of paint ordinarily i wouldn't stack my cleaning papers up because this way they're going to dry stuck together and i like to keep these but because we're kind of limited space here they're going to dry together i'm going to lay some of this lace right on the edges like that and this is just an experiment who knows if this will transfer through or not and y'all i've only just touched on some of the things that you can do with the jelly plate remember that paper towel that i scrunched up when i go through and start removing some of the paint on the inside so that it has like a gradient faded look just like that can you see how you can kind of see through that paint right in the middle you can transfer images from magazine pages that is so much fun sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't that's what we were trying to do the day i crafted with my mom and she wasn't getting the results she wanted so she gave up on it pretty quickly but yeah you could take old uh quilting magazines pictures with really high contrast work the best uh and you can lay the picture right down onto the jelly plate with the paint on it and transfer that image onto fabric or paper that's really cool terry said so you don't need the fabric medium yep nope these are uh fabric paint anything that you're using that says fabric paint you don't have to add a medium to if you're using acrylic paints crafting paint yes add the medium to it because this project is not getting washed i'm not wasting my fabric medium so all right so there's that print some of the lace came through but i have a feeling we're going to leave some really cool designs right there let's bring in this really pretty print that is probably my favorite hopefully we don't mess it up but we're going to see what we can pick up from the lace right there if anything thank you dory it did look like an art ocean didn't it it really did all right y'all close your eyes for a second i'm going to really rub this in there it's going to shake the camera so just close your eyes for a second hopefully we'll pick up all of that paint over from the lace we'll see no oh some all right so see there's some of the lace it picked up some of it so you know what i'm just going to let this sit and dry for a second we'll put some wet paint over top of it and we'll see if we can't pick up more of that so now would be a great time if you have questions i'm going to let that paint just sit and dry whoa and then so we'll pull two more prints i'm gonna try to pick that up once it's dry and then let's see i have some stamps here we'll do one with some words i wonder if the words will be backwards when we do it we'll see i don't know we'll do something with these stamps anitra said that camera shaking doesn't what a candle to some of the craft room tours i'm gonna have to move that camera or something though cause it shouldn't be shaking like that that's almost dry so yeah thanks for hanging out y'all i know this is not a tutorial we're just basically just hanging out and having fun most of all i hope that it just inspires you to be creative and do something creative ah mary lou said it would be interesting to try layers and stamps and dies or stencils yes and basically you know that's kind of what we're doing is just creating layers layers and layers like this is two different prints i kind of really love that a lot this one that's a lot of fun even though there's some paint missing i think that is gorgeous look at that that's fun what i'm gonna do since you said that i'm going to take this little heart stamp just like that let's uh let's use a dark color so that maybe maybe we'll be able to see it i'm going to put some of this paint right there we're going to paint it right onto this stamp i didn't bring any of my uh acrylic pieces to mount the stamps but we're just gonna try it like this i'm gonna paint that right on there on that stamp like that we'll see what that does i'm going to put it right here we'll stamp that image and we're going to let that dry too [Music] oh see that heart there we go i'm going to do a ghost print right there and right there just getting off some of that paint and another one right there how would this work on a teflon sheet connie you want to print on a teflon sheet i don't know that the teflon sheet would pick anything up or that it would stick to it because they're kind of water resistant right if i'm thinking about the same teflon sheet that you're thinking about while that's drying i'm going to try and get some of this paint off of there it'll be easier to clean up later all right that's not so bad all right so we're just going to let that dry for a second we're going to see if we can't pick up that lace border i don't want to waste that i know it's hard to see but in person you can see the details of the lace right on the on the jelly plate i want to try and get that off if i can so what are y'all doing this week if you came in after uh we got started you missed the live chat topic it was about free time what do you do in your free time and what do you wish you had more time to do we can just chit-chat while i'm waiting for this to dry oh miss connie i don't know that a teflon sheet would work the same way as a jelly plate you you could try it and see but i really don't think that it would work the same way oh connie you're shaky today i had a day like that yesterday a little bit better today beverly today you're working on ufos which ones are you working on dari's working on mug rugs easter crafts and table runners that sounds fun if y'all came in after we started also just keep in mind next week we're doing our live on wednesday instead of thursday and uh if you're in the creative crew y'all know linda russell right uh she's gonna be passing by here on her way home from florida and uh i think if it's still planned she's stopping by here and spending the night her plan is to be here tuesday for the creative crew on facebook i hope that uh i hope she's still able to do that hi marie you can come back and watch the replay clamper jan said use wet paper towel on a paper plate to clean the brayer yes that works really good too all right so it's predominantly dry i see a little bit where it's really thick and that heart is still wet but we're gonna see what we can get patience is not on my side when it comes to jelly plate printing i'll just let you know that all right i'm going to put some wet paint right over top of everything right over top of that oh i hope it pulls up the lace design i hope it does try not to smear it too much because that wet paint starts to move the paint that's underneath so i'm trying not to get it too too wet there we go all right let's see what we get this time put that right down there if you get queasy in motion sickness you might want to close your eyes i'm going to rub rub rub yeah that's the plan her and frank her husband frank they're supposed to stop by here on their way home and they're going to spend the night and we planned for them to be here on tuesday so we'll see what happens all right let's see what that pulls up a big hot mess it's a big hot mess okay so i did get part of the stamp you know i don't think that i let that dry as long as i should have i said you know i have a hard time waiting if i would have let it dry even longer see it started to pick up some of the design from the stamp but when i put the white paint on top what i really did was move that black paint around some of it was dry though see that but you do see some of the lace some of it let's see if we can get this off kathy uh you know i'm not sure i don't have it's been a while since i bought this muslin i can tell you it's not the cheapest muslin and it's not the most expensive muslin it is like a mid-grade muslin and i'm sorry i can't tell you exactly which one it is all right let's spray this gonna get some of that dried paint moving around moving around if it's warm in the room that you're working in the paint dries up really quickly let's see if we can pull it off that way we'll do one more set of prints one more because we've already been here an hour and a half my glory time flies see how you could spend a whole afternoon let me try this a whole afternoon playing with this thing and before you know it it's time to start dinner and you're like but i'm having so much fun let's get takeout let's see if we can't get some of that paint up with some more paint like that one thing's for sure is i usually have a great big mess to clean up after doing this how is that roc n i'm not quite sure what that is what is that it said i like the screen printing the best i love screen printing now that you can pretty much get guaranteed results right this is more creative and haphazard and whimsical and who knows what you're gonna get screen printing yes guaranteed results you know what you're gonna get when you do it screen printing is a lot of fun oh not too bad this wasn't a fabric piece you can see that see the detail from the lace why didn't it do that on my fabric that's all right i'm saving this for an art journal because that is pretty look it picked up some of the stamped image in person i see all of the holes from the lace a little bit of the design of the lace oh and it cleaned off my jelly plate see that all right we're gonna do one more let's see we'll do some layers we'll start by what will we do first let's put some of this green paint down first so there's some green that might have been too much and we'll do a splash of purple whoa that was way too much this is why i'm not a live demonstrator for jelly plate this is exactly why y'all that's all right i still have fun doing it all right so our first print we're gonna use this stencil isn't that pretty and what we're picking up will only be the flowers so i'm just going to push that right in there sheila you could you could have a little a little assembly line going on uh i've seen people have another jelly plate right next to them and they'll take their brayer and clean it off on that jelly plate and pull a print from that of course i picked a piece of fabric that's wrinkled i just you know i don't usually think that far in advance i wish i did though i'm just pushing pushing pushing that fabric down and we'll see what we got yeah okay so there's that let's set that off to the side let's bring in this piece all right this is not one of my favorite ones we've done today it needs some help it has uh some metallic blues there's some whites in there and a little hint of purple let's see if we can pick up some of this that we're leaving behind let's see if we can oh what is genetic printing genetric i'm not going to say that right already know that what is that i'm going to have to youtube it and see what that is i'm just really pushing that fabric right into that jelly plate let's put this off to the side i actually let's see if we can't pull some of the paint off of there let's see if we can't clean that off some a little bit too we'll see did we did we no we didn't we waited too long oh yay we finally did a pretty one there we go see that so we turn to the print that was not my favorite into probably one of my favorites of the day i really wish you could see the metallic sheen from the lumineer paint it's gorgeous oh i think this might be one of my favorites for the day a whole quilt made with custom fabric like this wouldn't that be so pretty that's pretty and our jelly plate is almost completely clean all right y'all i hope this has given y'all some really good ideas let me see if i can't clean up this jelly plate a little bit more i'm just going to try to get a little bit of specks of paint that are on there off with some paper as we close up for today if nothing else i hope that this video has inspired you to try something new many of you have already tried the jelly plate but if you're in the market to learn something new or to try something new i hope that this has given you some ideas and certainly we've only touched on some of the things that you could do with the jelly plate i wouldn't be able to fit everything into one live in an afternoon anyway so what i suggest in some of your free time is to go on the youtubes and search up search uh jelly plate printing and just have fun take notes save videos in a playlist to come back to later there are a lot of people that do some really creative artistic things with the jelly plate way prettier than what i've done today and that's just me being honest y'all all right and just like that my jelly plate is nice and clean i know it doesn't look clean but that's because i've used it so much it's stained but see that i just cleaned off my jelly plate that's all the paint that was on there and now she's ready to be put up and put away let me pull over my fabrics from what we've printed today and we'll close with that now i have all of these paints to put up or to leave out and play with later one of the two one of the two trying to not get paint over top of everything let's see where's my container for my jelly plate i'll go ahead and put that up it just goes right back in the little clam shell that it came in you want to store it so that nothing dries on the jelly plate right because you don't want it to print or leave little ending indentations that'll dry and leave a mark on your jelly plate so that is put up i will say i'm quite proud of myself i made very minimal mess i've only got a little bit of paint on my fingers that is way less messy i'll have to throw that away uh way less messy than i thought today was gonna be that's good so let's bring in some of these fabrics from today so there's one with the little florals on it that could probably use a little extra something something here's the yellow bricks i really wish you could see the colors in person but there's that one this one could use some more layering but i think it's off to a good start i like this one that's pretty this is kind of pretty that reminds me of like a batik you know that's kind of soft and pretty this i think might be my favorite one of the day this one needs some more stuff to it too right but this one we just took the end of a paintbrush to blunt end not a sharp and just drew some swirls in the wet paint that needs some help let's see this one uh i would still continue printing on this one you know it's got some potential but i think it needs a little bit more something done to it so we'll put that in that pile this is off to a great start look we'll put these side by side wouldn't that be pretty yes and then i'm kind of liking where this is going too [Music] and then we've got this one this one's got a gold metallic print on top and so in the sun it's shiny and shimmery that's pretty this one i think is on a good road it needs a little something for me it needs a little bit more something done to it and what else we've got a couple more here we go this is a great start it needs a little bit more for my liking but that's off to a really fun start and we've got one more we've got this one isn't that fun yes that was using the embossing pad uh the embossing folder so that's really pretty actually with a little bit more work a couple of these swatches would be gorgeous and they kind of all go together it would make a really fun unique quilt as we close for today i'm going to go back and i'm going to put up the slideshow of a quilt in case you missed it that i made using my jelly plate this is downstairs hanging up on the wall i do have some close-ups so you can see how i used some of these and this was used as backgrounds of some of these fabrics you'll see it close up here in a second the same embossing folder was used to make this quilt here see the background the orange and the white isn't that pretty yes so for certain these would need to sit and dry really well right and then you're going to heat press them each product you use has different instructions for heat pressing so read the instructions for whatever kind of paint you're using heat set it and then it's permanent on the fabric and you can wash it of course this quilt here is up on the wall it's never gonna get washed uh but yes isn't that pretty very uh mediterranean kind of tile looking quilt it was so much fun to make i want to thank you all so much for uh hanging out with me anitra asked is that one that you screen printed nope the uh the stencil that i used the flower with the lines going like this i made that stencil using uh my laminator i took a laminating pouch and put it through the laminator two or three times and just sealed it and then i designed that floral little tile and inkscape cut it out of my laminating pouch with my scan and cut and use that stencil so i printed a whole bunch of backgrounds like this and then i used that stencil and some black uh speedball ink and did that print on my jelly plate and that's why they're all kind of imperfect uh and then sometimes like if you see the little blue one on the screen it doesn't it has a blue flower instead of a black flower that's because after i pulled the print i then took one of these and picked up what was left so yeah it was just a lot of fun [Music] you could do that quilt screen printing as well you could jackie said i see some crock-pot meals and some late nights in my future you sound just like me jackie yes yes i think once you start the time just flies by i didn't realize we've been here almost two hours that's how involved you get in it so yes i hope that you have so much fun again if you have questions about the jelly plate i have linked the very same exact one i've used today the six inch one uh down in the description box you can check that out along with the azteca paints the lumineer the speed ball paints the fabric medium and uh yeah you can check all that stuff out but more than likely you can find it locally in your local craft shops all right joe i just want to thank you again thank you all so much for hanging out with me thank you for um dealing with the shaky camera i promise to try to fix that before next week next week we are making the farmhouse bunny hand towel y'all all of this the pom-pom the white fabric and the tea towel all came from the dollar tree uh so yeah the thumbnail is up for this video you can go over there now and get your free bunny pattern and in the description box i talk about what this is and what to look for but yes all of this came from the dollar tree fun project just in time for easter and we won't be live thursday we're going to be a day earlier streaming live on wednesday thank you all so much for hanging out being patient with me today if you do some if you do some jelly plate printing or anything really post pictures over on the creative crew i look several times a day to see all of your creations and uh yes update us on what you're working on i'll see y'all next week bye everybody
