hello everyone and happy saturday and we're starting the year off a little differently you can see by my desk i'm gonna take about two or three minutes to explain what i'm planning for the year here over on youtube and um and by way of that i'm going to do a little bit of show and tales so after this we'll go right into um a jelly printing session for this week's um offer here and but i really thought long and hard about spending the next year together and what that would look like and so many of you have been so loyal and faithful every saturday you talk about how much you enjoy looking forward to the saturday videos and i enjoy producing them so i thought well you know it's the teacher in me from all the years of teaching university um those of you who know that i used to teach at the corcoran school of art fourth year bfa students i got to have a curriculum so i thought we would do 52 weeks of art journaling um it's our journal challenge and it's designed to create um inspiration and accountability because when i'm oftentimes asked how do i you know have so many ideas so many people who follow me say my goodness you just always are doing something you never seem to run out of ideas and honestly it's i'm an art journal and when i just i developed the skill of art journaling and doing it consistently it made all the difference in my art so i'm a big advocate of art journaling but there is the art of art journaling because for many years i would start journals and stop them and i'm sure many of you are right there with me you understand what that is you may be dealing with that right now and just how to be consistent how to always have ideas and so um i about four years ago developed a program called art mythos and that simply means telling your stories visually using art mythos meaning storytelling and how do you tell your story visually and so that course over on my school was a big hit thousands of people have actually gone through it i've gotten so much positive feedback about how it really did change the way they were journaling and so that program art mythos is still over on my school many of you have already gone through it many of you are going through it some of you have done the free course which was the infinite pool and so that can be a backup to hear what we're doing here but you don't have to do that you could totally go 52 weeks with me this year and you're going to get a lot of value out of it without ever having to go deeper but a lot of times people ask me well i want to do more how can i do more and the art mythos which i'll have the link below is it's um self-instructed the modules are 25 for the month there are 10 to 14 videos every month along with journal prompts and downloadable things and what have you but you can do it you know it's you can buy them you don't have to buy them you can buy a couple of months not buy them for a while it's totally your choice and this is not about that but i'm not just letting you know that they link together but the same journal prompts that are on that um course that's been very successful are the same ones the identical ones that we'll be doing for 52 weeks right here on youtube so i'll tell you more about that as we go along but some of you may be asking that question because i know many of you have gone through it or many are going through it or have asked about it so i'm just making the connection so you'll understand that it is the same program it's just the school there's a lot more videos and you can do a deeper dive here it'll be 52 weeks so we'll do one journal prompt and one video every week but i'm still going to teach you how to really just have that consistent journaling have a lot of journaling ideas and we'll develop we're going to actually work our journal together so at the end you'll have a journal so for instance over on patreon we also do journaling and bookmaking and that's even a deeper deeper dive but for instance this is a junk journal from um last year and i should just probably do a flip of this at some point just do an extra video during the week where i'll do a flip just to show you guys some ideas but this is the junk journaling style um we're not going to so much be doing this style but you know you can always incorporate some of it in your video i mean in your work if you want this is my junk journal from the year before so i'm big on all different styles of journaling you know with all the flip outs and the wonderful things that junk journals are about which generally has a lot to do with using your scraps and what have you what we're going to do is this type of journal where we basically are going to be working this journal is from 2015 and this is 365 days of journaling and it's literally just journaling every day putting something in a journal every day and i have a tendency to challenge myself to these types of journals it had a hard cover on it but once you're done the thing gets so big i always go back and put a leather cover on or you can do a cloth cover and i show how that's done um and then the last thing i want to show you i know i'm going quick but i don't really want to take a lot of time and it's already been five minutes oh my goodness um the studio cleanup journals and we'll talk a little bit about this and i show this in detail over in the art of the first month of art mythos um but it's how you can go through and clean up your studio when you when you hit an impasse and so our first journal crop is the void that's the first one and so i developed this studio journal because i would do that i would come into my studio i don't know what i'm going to work on everything seems like a blank canvas what do i do so what i would do i started just kind of taking piles of paper and kind of organizing them and then i would fold them down and put different things and before i knew it i was creating these studio cleanup journals and i do that a lot when i don't know what else to do i just clean up and i start making journals this one is from 2014 because i'll put the dates on them so um this is just a sampling of the of that idea and you could do the same thing just using a um a pamphlet three whole pamphlet style stitch just start putting piles of paper together and creating a journal and that goes with the void so the week this the first prompt for this week every week i'll start the video with the prompt and then from the prompt we'll go into um a tutorial we'll work on the books together i'll show a technique like i always do it'll be a technique new products different things that i'm working on but we're going to work them back into a journal okay so the first week is the void so it's like you know when um this topic is a good one because it's what stops most creators dead in their tracks when facing an empty studio um what i'm suggesting is that you can spend the week um journaling on this topic thinking about the topic while you're working in your journal which is what i'm proposing that you start um you know you grab and start creating um you can explore any medium that you're comfortable with you can do it any way you like there are no rights or no wrongs what's important is just to explore stay honest with yourself self dive in allow your inner self to sort through this concept a few questions that i ask and i that i've asked myself and i'd like to ask you guys is um let's explore emptiness take some time and and just think about and answer the following questions i'm going to give you here what comes up for you when you hear the word void is it liberating or scary are you inspired to be creative yeah just think about that and before we move into the video i'm going to show you the after a little bit before it's going to be a jelly printing session i made all of these jelly prints in this session with you guys it's coming up showed you some new colors some new techniques how to mask out some stuff um just really playing around doing it on tissue paper so those of you have seen this before you're familiar with it so you have a lot of fun with it but i'm also encouraging you to get some kind of journal this one i'll put the links below because i get it on amazon i like it because it lays flat it's also sewn in the pages are sewn in and that's important because as we start filling this journal up it's going to get real chunky like this and the cover will get too big for it so um we'll end up putting a cover on it but you want something that we don't have to worry about the pages falling out so i started mine with this one which in the video i'll show you how this one was done so i glued that in and i took a couple of pages that we did um on tissue paper and glued them in so this first week you literally can do the upcoming video you can do it on tissue paper you know the kind of great stuff that we get from the dollar tree or the dollar store or you can work on copy or paper and then i just will challenge you to just glue seven of them in seven days ten days again you can glue in as many as you want you need to do anything else trust me just glue some of the ones in that you really really like commit them into your journal because as we move along i'm going to show you how a lot of art journaling techniques how you'll be able to come back over these pages pretty much like we did an alter book add things to them it's never ever just done you know you could be halfway in the book and decide to come back a few pages and add something else and that's one of the styles and techniques that i use so this is going to be full of tips and tricks over the next 52 weeks of art journaling together and there you have it so i i know i'm talking fast but i don't want to spend a lot of time too much time on this so that we can get into our process so coming up next is our jelly printing session with these wonderful beautiful jewel toned um paints and some other techniques and then you'll be able to get into your art journal so please join me i hope you'll join me and join this challenge i promise you when we're done you're going to have something that's going to look like this at the end of the year it's going to be so chunky and yummy and you're gonna be so excited to actually have just this really beautiful symbol of 2021 of all the efforts you've put into your studio time and it'll give a wonderful focus to your year into creating and many of these things can work into other artwork other gifts all that kind of good stuff so look forward coming up we're getting ready to start now on our video and i'll continue to explain a lot of this as we move along this is what the segments are going to look like i'll come on i'll share a prompt we'll talk a little bit about the prompt and then we'll get into um the project all right guys see you in a minute hey y'all so happy saturday and we are here to work on a jelly printing session so week one of this 52 week challenge we're going to go back and we're going to visit mark rothko backgrounds with some new arteza colors they have this whole new package of jewel tones and i haven't tried them yet they're really some awesome um colors in here and you guys know i sort of have a earthy warm palette but there's a lot of colors that i like to figure out how to introduce in my work so what better than to start the year out with some nice bright colors working our backgrounds and this is going to give us material for the weekly work that you do so in this 52 week challenge um but you guys have probably already heard about now the beginning of the video i just thought how cool would it be for us to spend the year together 52 weeks knowing exactly where we're going to be going with um the idea of journaling prompts that allow you to really dig deeper into your work and your ideas and give you a sort of a place of contact content and a direction for your work and while we're working together and i will be doing lots of videos with these techniques so let's jump in and get started i've already explained a lot of that in the beginning of the video so no need to go over it again but i will be talking about it as we talk through our working together so um i'm starting off my by making a you can see how i'm making a um a frame that's like a uh what do you call these things um where we're sort of blocking out a part of the plate and what i do is i use these transparencies i get these at the goodwill honestly this one was 2.99 for 100 sheets but they're just full um you can use anything you can use page um protectors anything that's plastic and basically what you're going to do is you're going to just take a full sheet just kind of stick together here but just a full sheet of this and what i do to make it super super simple i take my um measuring you know matte here with lines on it and basically i lay it down and i sort of figure out the size i want taking a marker you can see here i had a dot i sort of make the dots you know right in where i want them to be then i use something really pointed this is just an easy way of doing it you can use a needle you can use your all and literally just puncture into the places where you made the hole once you puncture in then what you do is you take a straight edge and you just literally line up the little holes that you punctured where are we right here straight down and using the x-acto blade if you start in that first little puncture hole this is the trick of it all if you go straight down the the blade will actually if you slow down it's going to stop at that second puncture hole that you made you'll feel it and that's what keeps you from over cutting and then you just go around all four sides and cut it out like that and then you get this piece that's going to come out the middle that we can also use as a mask you can use this to mask out space if you wanted to um but we'll use this as a frame that's going to mask out our prints and i thought i do that a lot so i thought i would show you all that and it's a nice way to get some really clean prints if you're um when you're working on the jelly plate and you want to sort of kind of create frames for the background so starting out i'm just going to grab these are all the colors let's do that so this is pastel green i know i like that one pearl electric blue pearl amethyst purple to all of you guys who love color this is the video for you it's your treat at the beginning of the year pearl rose pearl pink tulip pearl golden hour just the best names pearl sky blue i know i like that one too i've used that one before some of these i haven't used and some i have pearl hot pink so that's what's in this one this is called the jewel tones it's eight acrylic colors in the premium so i'll put a link for these below alrighty so we're gonna go through all of them we're gonna play around with them now you see i already have black on here so we're going to start with the pastel green because i'm just going to pull now we're just going to you know what we're just going to get right into sorry i've got to take these off i forgot i didn't take these off but they come off pretty quickly we're going to get right into doing the backgrounds okay so let's do the green let's try the electric blue wow we're going to get right into doing the backgrounds and just pulling this black up at the same time because that's just going to give us some pretty neat grunge alrighty so put the blue on the bottom and the green on the top so we'll roll the green first i'm not going to use the frame first i'm just going to kind of just clean this plate off guys know how much i love the rock the mark rothkos but these make such beautiful backgrounds so we're going to use we'll start off with the um the tissue paper this is just good old dollar store tissue paper for those of you who are new to me it's just the white tissue paper you can get at the dollar store 99 cents or anywhere like that and it really just not only does it pull beautifully but it makes nice um papers to layer in image and collages so we'll start getting that black off which you not love but these colors are nice together look at that green and this blue it's kind of sticking together wow that blue is really vibrant i love it okay i'm going to i think in order just to get them all off let's just go ahead and open them all up and at the same time we're getting our plate going you can see they're brand new i hadn't even opened them yet okay so let's put let's try putting some purple i have a tendency when i do these mark rothkos i mean you could do them a lot of different ways but i have a tendency i think to put the the lighter color on the top and the darker color on the bottom so this one is going to be pearl golden hour now i'm going to have some blue on here already i'll just go ahead and clean it off that way we can kind of see our color good and then then after that i'll you know how i like to mix my colors i do that circular motion because it helps to kind of get that little patchy look out the way when you first lay color down on the plate if you're wondering why i do that that's why this is the 8 by 10 plate that i'm using wow these colors are really beautiful and vibrant look at that those of you who have done this um this before with me really know how yummy these colors can be so what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna put down i'm gonna play around with the different papers i think what i'm gonna do is go back to this pastel green so i want to pull more color off the plate so just playing around and the tissue paper because it's not very thick and it's not as absorbent you get thin layers that it pull off pulls off so every now and then i like to come with a thicker sheet of paper and um and pull and then you get more off your plate so it just is a way to clean the plate also [Music] and you'll see how wow look how dramatic that print is that's a good background print isn't it see we're getting this black off we've got those nice colors integrated so what i like about the artisan metallics is that you see like even though i'm not like a really bright color person um and so if you're like me were you like earthier but you do like jewel tones because i do like jewel tones there's a way when you mix them you can kind of grunge it down and make these sort of muted backgrounds and they're just gorgeous or you can go full-on color as well so there's a number of ways of kind of thinking about that so we've done those now let's go to pearl i'm just kind of going in really no particular order here pearl sky blue and what do we have left we have the hot pink the pearl rose so let's do the hot the pearl hot pink nothing beats a good jelly printing session and this also really ties in with our theme for this week which is the void really you know exploring that because you know sometimes just pulling out your jelly plate and just beginning to work is a wonderful place to kind of approach that void when you want to work in your studio and you're just not sure like you know what is it that i want to do sort of pulling out the plate and starting to play with colors and that's why just even making backgrounds are so freeing because you don't have to think about what is this piece of art going to look like you know what stencil should i use are those are they going to look right or the stencils didn't print really good this time you know all that we go through if you just make backgrounds you're so ready for the next time that you come to your session or even in that one session you get so inspired that you're like okay yeah i can go ahead and now take this and you know commit it to my art journal committed to a book you're working on put it on a background and start building from it with collage you know it just really is so freeing and it gives you a place to begin working from those colors are gorgeous so that's why i love not only jelly printing it's kind of all got this is going to be interesting background to put it down and sort of fold it on itself all good like this one really decided i wanted to fold back um so jelly printing is such a really good kind of obsession to have when you are um i'm gonna put some green on top of this and pull this off with this pink that's on there so you'll see me go back and forth um it's just a wonderful way to create get that creative juices going and um and explore the void of you know being in the studio not quite sure knowing what you want to do but now you've got all this work that when you do flush out some ideas you can come back to all of this and start working on it and creating so there's a lot of techniques like like this that i actually employ in my own work time just to keep me going because you know i'm you know prone to the same things a lot of you guys are prone to low inspiration not sure fleshing out a lot of ideas now where do i go from here you know i've already shown them this before what type of techniques are they going to like you know i got that added in where i want to keep you guys happy as well see that's where you get that kind of little puddle when you put it right down on the plate but i happen to like that and i work with that image or that shape that happens you can you know collage right over top of it you can work around it you can come back later and put another color on top of it so i kind of go with those sort of things that happen on the plate because i think it just makes things just a little more interesting okay so let's now go for the last two i'm gonna put the pearl rose on the bottom um so yeah so in this this month's series will also kind of correspond with the first month of art mythos a lot of you've gone through it a lot of you don't even know there's something that i have called art mythos which is a self-directed um 365 days or 52 weeks of art journaling with the same prompts we're going to be doing here on youtube so you don't ever have to go over and do the monthly um segment because we'll go through those the prompts here and you can just kind of get creative on your own if you want to go a deeper dive with me those are over and i'll put the link below but they're over in my um in my studio school and the monthly prompts have more videos that go with them like this week's um would be the studio cleanup journal and so it's like how i kind of approach the void and go into my studio and um take a lot of stuff that i'm laying around and just make these really cool cleanup journals i call them and so if that's the case then those modules are 25 a month and they're like i don't know three or four at least three videos a week so probably like about i don't know 10 to 12 videos out the month along with other kinds of inspiration put this down because i don't want it to fold on itself again those colors oh that coral is gorgeous that bottom color oh i love it so a lot of that already i've already explained but just you know reinforcing that there's you know you can do as much i've got this set up so you can do as much or as little because so many people ask me about how you know i stay creative you know what are some of my techniques so i share that as a deeper dive if you want to if not we'll be hanging out here with 52 weeks and then those of you who are my patrons or ask about patron patreon there we're going even deeper into the creating of art collaging this year foraging and using foraged things in our work um oh my goodness it's just gonna be wow look at that see that now that got all a lot more of that black off and look how beautiful that integrates in with these colors see these the kind of prints i just love oh gosh that's good um so now that i'm kind of getting this plate pretty well cleaned up let me see let me come back with this tulip which i think made the coral color and let's go with this green this pastel this pearl pastel green my gosh this is a pretty color and let's pull this again so yeah lots of fun this color is just amazing okay i'm gonna use one of my um a lot of you asked me about what paper i use too so this is the hammer mill 28 pound premium color copier paper so it's not photo paper but it's just color copier so it pulls the colors nicely but i tell you it just works so beautifully on this plate it's a little heavier paper than just regular coffee copy paper it has a nice um finish to it so it just pulls beautifully look at oh that just gorgeous you can imagine building up on that a collage okay so now what we're going to do um a little bit of this yellow this is pastel what is it golden pastel golden hour pearl golden hour let's just do this this way so i want to pull some more okay it's a good way to clean my plate so now from here we're going to go to um using that mask that i made so you can see how that works oh my goodness look at that combo love it i love that just has such a beautiful monoprint look like you just monoprinted on glass or something like that gorgeous okay so let's let's go back to this purple what color combination was that because this was really pretty let's do the purple let's do the purple with this rose pink let's see what we get with that okay and let's put a little golden hour right in the middle of it okay so let's let's get that going i'm putting a decent amount on the plate because i want to kind of roll this off over here i want to try to get a nice print pulled okay so let's put that down let's get our mask i'm going to take and lay this mask down this is just a neat way if you really want to get um a piece pulled that will sort of have like a neat border on it i like doing this especially if you're working on like a better print making paper and you just really want to try to pull prints where you have a finished edge going on then just make these masks they're like the best try to really yep get that edge it's looking good all righty let's see see how it looks just like a real print i love that these colors look really good wow wow i love that so we'll do a few combinations like that so you just pull it off to the side then i still have more color on here so what i'm going to do is throw a little extra color on the plate and in between every one of these just pull a plain one right let's use um i'll use this because i can see i can get a little more of this black up so every other mask just you know sort of use it to kind of clean the plate off and get a nice background that's nice these colors are gorgeous boy do they work well together yes they do okay so let me get did let's go back to some of these blues let's get the pearl blue and this green you could just do this forever right okay so once again let's put our mask down okay let's get a piece of um tissue paper this time i would get a pic of a piece that has a hole in it oh well i'll see look messed up a little bit on that edge because i slid it but you see the idea there did you get this really nice clean crisp oh that those colors together really gorgeous lift this up and let's go ahead and just get another full sheet because this would make a nice background and a collage i love using these um tissue paper i use it a lot in my art and my collages they just really come through for you look at that what a nice color mixture yeah they honestly come through really nicely when you're um this over here clean that off okay when you want just extra thin background material let me see what do i want to do which color combination let's do the yellow on the top i'm gonna do the green in the middle and and let's do this not the hot pink but the pearl rose this is the pink i was looking for okay wow this is going to be gorgeous so we'll get the mask again just lay that down and put some more paper here lay that down isn't it fun working with this mask i mean it's like so cool like you really just get look at that it's dried up oh my god these things dry so vibrantly how can you not like that if you're a color person i love this that is just gorgeous i can see working with that and kind of working my uh whoops taking up the mask wow see get these really gorgeous prints look at that ah that's gorgeous whoa so nice and now you have a nice clean edge that you can literally cut around this you can start building up more um images like you could do the fragments that i've shown you guys before uh you can come back and stencil you can even do some of the stenciling like we did last week coming back with um even like um you know sort of just dabbing through um like my my um scripting stencils and stuff like that on these backgrounds just using like the cosmetic sponge um or any whatever kind of tool you want to use i use a cosmetic sponge but to really kind of keep on building up layers uh you can kind of come back through look at that that's so gorgeous oh my goodness it's nice you could come back through with um let's see what was i thinking with this like any of these pressed distressed ink pads that we've used and um oh also i was thinking i was thinking you could also cut shapes out of your papers and go from there with it this purple is really nice let's see what we can do with this let's put the purple down um let's use this pale blue and then let's use this green i'm gonna have fun with these colors now i'm gonna show you for those of you who like who um know that i have like a i do a warm palette too show you exactly what i would do to mix these in okay put this down again okay let me see which inks which paints i have over here at hand wow look at that that's a gorgeous and even with those places where the paint first goes down you see how it almost looks like a landscape when you do the variations and then you can kind of use that as a darker tone with the mixed colors to kind of work around and start building up your um your collage ideas so you can use all of that variation versus um just always kind of have like this really i think sort of like this boring all you know perfectly flat color i mean we can definitely do that but i don't know that's not as exciting to me as letting those things mix and kind of come coming away with those one-off types of um experiences so i'ma show you next if i work with my celadon which is one of my all-time favorites that blick and let's bring this pastel pearl into the mixture [Applause] oh look at that and let me reach over here and get my quinacridone nickel um azo and let's see should have a gold somewhere here where is the gold i got my tabari here but you know like finding sometimes those little bottles get lost hmm well i don't see the gold maybe this one will be good enough to use okay so we're gonna just mix show you how we'll mix some things here so let's go with some celadon so this is the blick matte acrylic and but last week you know we talked a lot about mats and paints and what they do so we're gonna put that down but come back with this pearl kind of put that down i'm going to start off by mixing that in and let's come here with the blit mac the mat kind of doing this we kind of get that edge there let's get a few dots of that let me get a different brayer my small one right here so just showing you how you know we can now definitely mix the paints so i would use oh my goodness this is good let's pull that and see so i'll even use like a purple i'ma go with a purple too so you can see how you can actually take these really bright jewel tones and still move them into like an earthy kind of palette which is what i love about these the arteza um metallics they're such good metallics and i love a good metallic anyway so um look at this look how good that is now that's just good see that makes me happy so i can use some of the colors that i really love the earthy tones but you can still pull in these um these jewel tones let's do some more of that let me get the purple put some purple in here okay and so let's see that let's get a little bit of this golden's gold i'm kind of getting low here so i hope yeah oh that's going to be good got a little quinacridone still on there oh is that not moving okay okay let's see what we get here so just showing you guys how you can take all the other planes paints when you get like a palette like this jewel tone you can definitely work them back in with your other pinks i mean pinks your other paints you can definitely um tone them down oh i forgot to put look at me i forgot to put more of the of the um that's nice to look at that of this up there so what we can do it's an easy fix let's just get some come on let's get some there let's go ahead and roll that out and let's come back let's grab some of that oh yep here we are that's beautiful see how that purple and that salad celedon works so well together like the celadon calms the purple down for me in terms of my palette but it gives me some of that jewel tone color which is gorgeous so let's see i want to also let's go ahead and put this down let's go ahead and pull this on our tissue paper so let me see what else do i want to show you guys we're gonna do the mask with this as well [Applause] okay so we've got that uh see the mat so it's really subtle gorgeous though just great to use as a layer to um put collage over top of something that's pretty dramatic underneath okay so now let's get i'm gonna do let's do this okay i'm gonna play around a little bit let's have a little fun here i'm gonna get in the distress stain i'm gonna get gather twigs i'm gonna get gathered twigs we are going to just roll this out let's get um let's go with the blue let's go with the pearl blue our sky it's pearl sky blue okay here [Applause] and what else do i want to do here i'm going to put the quinacridone ozo down there wow this is going to be good and then let's do some gather quick you know we got to keep on pushing the techniques and then let's just go ahead and lay this down oh no we want to put our mask i'm going to get our mask on here wow and then let's put our paper down see we get ladies and gents i have some i have some guys that follow me that are patrons as well so i'll leave you guys out okay so let's look oh my goodness look at that look at that wow so we got some of the wicking there because the quinacridone ozo gold moved when we sprayed the gathered twigs down so look at this so if you've got that really beautiful subtle spray going on there this that's nice now that's just a beautiful it almost looks like a landscape like maybe a beachy kind of scene yeah so see how beautiful that is it's ready just to go ahead and build up on and keep on collaging oh i love it let's do we got a little bit more time here let's do some more let's play some more with that go ahead and put this down let's go ahead and put a little bit of the pearl green kind of mix that in so i'm cleaning the plate right now but i am going to use some of the seth after gold clean this and some of the distressed stain i mean the um yeah stress stain in the gather twigs let's just pull all of that off see what we get let's see what combination let's see oh my my my my my my look at that whoa gorgeous wow love it so let's do um let's get this purple and let's get this coral again and this yellow okay so now what we're going to do is we're going to mix in i'm use this roller that has the quinacridone on it so that's that will transfer a little bit and then let's go in with this coral okay so let's come back with the tattered rose really saturate that let's see what we come away with and let's get another color do i have it let's go with the um hmm i think i want to do this one here honey yep okay let's put our mask down just to see what happens right we don't know we're gonna tr we're experimenting my favorite thing to do okay see we come away with so it bled out a little bit because i had it pretty wet up there but let's see oh wow see so we got some bleeding there because i did have it a bit wet but look at that look how it just tone some of the brilliant i mean it's still brilliant but it just toned it down a little bit so those inks just kind of gave it like a distressed vibe to it oh boy that's nice wow you can just really see can't you guys how i love how that purple in that which color was that that was the pearl tulip i love how that just blends together so nicely okay we'll do a few more so this right here let's just see what we pull up i'm gonna do that on a piece of tissue i don't know might just be an interesting sort of background pull never know you never know because enough stuff down here still yeah look at that just a nice we pulled that we got some of that texture so when that dries to be able to use that as a background print then build up on that's nice too and wouldn't that be nice layered over some text you could have some black text down even your intuitive scripting or something like that and then glue this right over top of it so that text comes through and then begin to build up on top of that that's a winner okay so let's clean the plate again so i have plenty still left on here i'm gonna take the black soot here and the distressed tim holtz distressed let's just get i'm just kind of trying to get small amounts out okay let's pull that see what we get just kind of using that black as a color so it just really puts some interesting stuff on the top of it well we got a lot of prints done here i'll have to i'll have to show them all to you guys whoa whoa whoa whoa look at that wow how etheric is that that is just gorgeous see how it just bled in there oh nice i like that i really like that you know we're going to do let's try this one more thing one more thing let's go back let's get this purple and actually i'm forcing myself talking about you know when i'm playing in my studio i'm really forcing myself to use purple because i really don't go to purple very often to be very honest it's not like i don't i don't not like it it just isn't one that i find i work into my color palette very easily but you know i i like to play around like we're doing now and ex and explore different colors because it really does help you i'm telling you it helps you to figure out how colors you don't use all the time can be used i'm gonna put some of this down i'm gonna come with this that has a little bit of gold on it and i'm gonna mix this in a bit and then what we're going to do we're going to come back with that black soot and then let's let's just roll it out a little bit let's see what happens just see what happens when you roll it out we can pull up remember the more you roll it you can pull up and take stuff off to expose different layers of color like i'm gonna leave that side like that and then just you know while i'm pulling up over here it's going to give us a whole completely different tone now let's put our frame down and see what happens so we might walk away with an interesting kind of framed print remember how we used our frame when we were working um before so they're doing the same thing with this you're just doing it in the process of printing to kind of see what kind of interesting let's put a little bit of gold there's a little bit of gold there just to see what kind of interesting um sort of masked out print you get wow look at that see it's just so look how vibrant the golds the purples the pinks are but you see how it's laying underneath that black so you really are still seeing a lot of that vibrant color but we've kind of subdued it and given it a you know we've made it a shade versus um a full on tone love it okay so now we'll clean this last print off and then we'll come back and look at all of the prints we've done i want to take and put some of this green down with this i feel kind of work this in and let's come with some of that gathered twig and let's get ourselves a full sheet to pull so a lot of the things that you've been buying from some of our all our other techniques we're just going to keep on building because that's what i do i mean i get things but it's you know i want to show you how we can build on these supplies i don't want you guys to go out and buy different supplies and it's a one-off technique and a one-off video we're not going to be doing that we're going to keep on building on with all of this now you can see how i went from a really jewel tone into kind of like my tonal field in terms of earth tones so don't like any pain a lot of times people look at pain and just think of them but that's gorgeous look at that over there when it dries that's gonna all pop through so pretty this whole thing is gorgeous a lot of times people just think in terms of or they see that full-on color and they're like ah that's in a color i like or you know or that you might have a a color that's not very vibrant and you're like i only use that i like brighter colors well nothing's off limit my friends just you know the jelly plate is fabulous for allowing us to develop colors right on the plate and you can really just move into some really interesting color fields and sort of make paints your own by mixing the tones like we're doing here i'm basically just cleaning the plate but this is gonna make a nice so you've got a lot off it's just gonna make a nice sort of um piece of collage paper all righty so we'll be back to look at all of our papers when they're dry thanks for hanging out with me i'm gonna be back but just wanna say thank you and i'll see you in a minute all righty let's finish up by doing a flip through through the papers that we made so i took the time while the papers were drying to give you an example of what i was talking about with that last poll that was transparent on on tissue paper i laid it down on top of some paper that i had done previously it had mark making and scripting on it so this is what this underpaper looked like and then i put that last print that was basically a clean up that had a mixture of all the sort of colors on it over top of it and this is what i'm talking about you can really see through it so you give a lot of variation and yumminess to the print by layering this very thin tissue paper over top of it now this piece is ready to continue to use can be used as pages in a book i can also use it to continue to collage on top of or cut up and use this collage elements so think um outside the box with a lot of the prints that you pull and a lot of these trans um loosened layers so let's just do a quick flip through i'll just kind of move through them we got quite a bit done for that session and that's what i love about just kind of jumping in and just working intuitively these colors are just great i mean look how vibrant they are so we can go from something like this in this color palette to something like this you know but still has all that vibrancy popping through but then really mute it and we have the translucent uh nature of the tissue paper which is why i love working with it because it's so cool to collage with and then we have some of the full pools and these are just great this color is just amazing i mean this purple with the celadon i absolutely love it it's like amethyst with you know some green jade or something so we got quite a bit done so remember that um these are ready and this is using the black soot i love that so there we have it so remember now these can be used in the studio cleanup journal which is one of the prompts for this week when you're thinking about starting the new year off and you're in your studio just go back through a lot of the um the older uh prints and bits and pieces you have around and just create these studio clean up journals i love making them and you just couldn't put all of this stuff in them and find them on the side and just really hold on to papers and you know a lot of times i'll bind my papers just to kind of pull them all together and then when i'm working on projects i'll flip back through these kind of studio cleanup journals and tears from the pages out um that have things on them i want to use in collage and what have you so it's a way of also organizing your thing so you can flip through and have inspiration but they're not so precious that if you want to take that element and use it in a current collage you can just rip it out and do so so look forward to moving forward to the next 51 weeks with you guys and please thumb up this video if you like it please comment below and let me know how you feel about this new series um also there's any techniques that you've been dying to
