[Music] hello and welcome back to my channel I'm Teresa thank you for joining me here today today I'm going to show you how to create these little fun funky wonky houses I've popped a little stand on the back of mine so that I can pop them on a shelf stood up in a row and I'm gonna be showing you how I've renovated some not-so-good prints to do these I will explain as we go along that you you know there are various other ways that you can do this but I'm showing you a simple way of adding some interest to some prints and waste papers that you might have lying around that you're not sure what to do with and you can turn them into something fun and funky for your home or to send to a crafty friend so I'm gonna clear these out of the way get set up and I'll be back to show you how it's done as today's video is all about sort of renovating less than perfect prints and turning them into some sort of usable artwork I've had a little sift through my drawer of prints and clean off papers and things like that and pulled out a few that you know they're not interesting they're not successful in their own right but I think there'll be a good basis for what I want to do today so as you can see this here it didn't come out very well it's just one layer not very interesting but I like the color and I do like the fact that you can sort of see this sort of star shape in the background so I'm going to use that that's going to work out as a nice base for what we're doing today these two here and were from the same session and the paint's I was using were not very good they kind of split a little bit the images that I had got on there were not clear or distinct but again I quite like the colors they're a nice bold start for it for a bottom layer there so I'm going to use those this one here I guess I think is looking at it I can't really remember it looks like it might be a ghost print done from when I use something with a stencil but again it's a it's a good base the colors there there's some sort of a bit of interest in there so we'll use that one and then this one here I can sort of see a vague outline of a leaf on here so again I think a go sprint that didn't really do much but just put down some paint on a piece of cardstock and it will be perfect for what we want today I mean you can use any sort of print no matter how detailed or not for this project but because I'm going to be working over the surface with some paint with some stencils these are absolutely perfect you know I don't really need much detail on here just a bit of color because I'm going to be adding more detail today I've got my palette I've chosen a couple of paints these are deco art Americana paints we have cadmium yellow sea breeze and bright salmon and the reason I chose these is looking at the colors that I've got here I thought that they should work pretty well with everything that's on there just to bring it all together in a sort of cohesive design as I said I'm going to be using a couple of stencils again keeping this simple I've chosen this stencil here this geometric design I'm really not sure where this one came from I've had it a long long time one of the first ones that I bought but I liked it just an all-over simple geometric design and then this little one here that has just got some circles and sort of oblong shapes on I believe came with a magazine it was a feature to do with Ranger and there was some little mini range of stamps and stencils and I think this is one of those but again a fairly generic sort of design I'm sure you could find a couple of stencils out of your own stash that would work perfectly well for what we're doing today by keeping it again simple you will find you get a cohesive design across what we're doing here which should bring these various and off cuts of prints together quite nicely what I'm going to do today is make some wonky little funky houses now this here is a piece of mount board mapped board just an off cut and I actually picked up a whole load of off cuts from a gallery obviously the bits leftover from when they were doing their picture frame Ian's got that a good good rate if you don't have this just some heavy-duty cardboard a couple of layers are sort of cereal box cardboard would do you just want these to be quite sturdy I'm also going to be making some little stands to fit on the back afterwards but you don't have to you can make these stick them in a journal and stick them on the front of a greetings card hang them up make them into funky gift tags you know there's lots of things you could do with them but I'm gonna put some little stands on the back and put them on a shelf now I have not given too much thought to the shape of my houses here I have literally drawn some sort of wonky square or rectangular shapes with a wonky triangular or roof shape on the top they're all slightly different they're all approximately the same height because I want them to stand in a row on a shelf so that they look quite nice but just don't think too much about it just just draw out you know a little wonky shape for a house I'm going to now cut these out with my craft knife and when I've done that we'll get on with embellishing our not-so-perfect prints so I've trimmed my houses just using a ruler and a craft knife and I set those aside for now because we can work on our prints and then trim these to fit once we've done and there really is is there are no complicated method to what I'm going to do today you could if you want to get your gel plate back out again and do some more printing on top of these to add more interest you can do that but sometimes it's nice just to work on them with a bit of paint with a stencil I've got a few paint pens here as well that I might decide if I want to add a bit more line detail or some finer dots afterwards but really I'm just gonna take my stencil take a bit of paint I've got some sponge here this is just you know household sponge has been cut up into little pieces and I'm going to add some detail all over these working in a couple of different layers so for instance on this one that you see will will use the yellow paint I'm just gonna sponge that through not going to necessarily cover the entire area you know we're just trying to bring out a bit more interest a bit more design onto these painted backgrounds so just going to set that aside and move on to another one I'm just going to basically work my way through the different prints that I've got here we'll probably just speed this whole section up I'm gonna use the couple of stencils I've got the few paints that I've got just let the paint dry in between each one come back in with a different color or you know a different design until I'm happy with the result when we started [Music] we took our bike to the lake after schools gamescape many stones from the beach and one thing you said was [Music] and I will No soon [Music] there's too much to be done it's no I know where we belong [Music] haven't changed a bit of my heart your words and never been wrong you want my safety zone you're solid [Music] so here we have some prints now that have more interest than some extra layers on there and just need to let these dry completely shouldn't take too long and I can go in now with a pasta pan and paint pan fineliner gel pen whatever you've got that will work on top of the paint I do find that the like the pasta paint pans are really really good for this obviously they are an acrylic based paint in there once these are dry I can start defining some of these areas and I'm gonna outline some of the areas that we've got and then maybe put some little dots or dashes and other marks in there just to sort of complete and sort of bring out the detail in these prints and now that these prints are all dry the paint's all it's completely dry I've cleaned my hands up as best I can go at all the paint I'm going to go in with one of these pasta pans I'm gonna just use black and white today you can use any colors and say if you've got gel pens you can use those but I'm just gonna highlight the areas that we've stenciled just to make them stand out a little bit more and once again probably we'll just put this on fast-forward while I go through all of the prints [Music] I was scared so scared [Music] I know we're gonna stay the same [Music] there's too much to [Music] it's no [Music] fine where we [Music] haven't changed a bit of my yo [Music] jeez they're solid like a credit [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so what deep in my mind see the bar the place is prologue why cuz I don't know it it'll be Oh [Music] well you [Music] we [Music] so I've doodled on all of my prints here just brought out those designs and and made those shapes and colors stand out a little bit better and so now it's time basically to get these prints onto our house templates and I'm just gonna take one for example and I'm gonna use one color for the main body of the house and a different one for the roof and just mix and match and really just want to have a look about you know where I want which bit of the design I want to use on the house I'm gonna get a pair of scissors roughly cut it to size and I'm gonna glue it on and I can I can cut a straight edge for where this roof line is going to be and then just trim around the edges with a knife but I think I'm going to use this section here on this house here so I'm just going to for now cut this one in half I want to just trim that edge off the top there and make that section fit along the roof line and I can just trim that bit down a little bit more and I'm just using this is PVA glue this is the cosmic shimmer acrylic and glue that I always use I've got it in one of these fine tips bottles you could use a matte medium a gel medium Mod Podge something like that I'm just going to use this glue I like it it's nice and quick drying and I'm just going to place that on there so I've got my edge up against where the roof line airs just press that down and then I say either use a pair of scissors or a knife just gonna take my craft knife and I'm just gonna move over to the cutting mat and then just using the edge of that house as my ruler just gonna trim that excess away like so I'm gonna choose a different design to use for the roof I'm gonna use a bit of this yellow one here I think and I think I'm going to use this section here and again just looking at sort of the rough size that I need [Music] cutting a section there I'm just gonna get myself a straight edge for the roof line you can use a ruler for this if you want to it's um you know pretty confident that that's gonna be straight enough pop on there again put some glue in place press that down nice and firm and trim away the excess and there we have our roof on there as well so I'm gonna go ahead and do that for all of my templates and I shall be back and show you how we can finish them off I've got all my houses almost completed now I mean we have the roof and the main body of the house put on I've also cut out some little wonky rectangles to use as doors and before I put them on I want to edge these buildings with some black ink I also want to edge round the doors as well with some black ink now I could have edged the line where the edge of the roof is but I've decided just to leave that as it is but I am just using some black and archival ink and a foam tool just to go around the edge of these and say to go around the edge of the doorways as well before I stick them all and that will just help the doorway stand out a little bit from the background I have again used a contrasting painted background for the doors so it is they're not the same colour as what they've been stuck on to but I do still feel that so that that isn't sort of quite so lost on there just going to go round with a little bit of the black ink you could use the paint pan again if you don't have an ink pad and just draw around the edge but I've got the black ink pad so I thought I'll use that and it just just helps lift that from the background and here are my finished houses for all intents and purposes I've popped the doors on I'm not going to add windows you could add windows if you want to you could as I say if you wanted to ink along that join you could you could cut out you know little fancy scalloped trim ink it put it along there for the edge of the roof you can make them as fancy or as simple as you want I'm gonna leave these as they are I quite like the effect that I've got there with them now I am making though some little stands so that they will stand up at the back and for that I've just took some more of this mat board and it's 2 centimeters at the top and 2 centimeters 2 centimeters at the top four centimeters along the bottom and 7 centimeters tall I mean I've just made it so that they are you know half to sort of two thirds of the height of the houses that I've got and I've just scored a centimeter in from that edge so that I can fold it and now I can attach this tab to the back of the house and that bit will be a little stand so that the house will stand up I'm just gonna put some glue on that edge and stick it in place just lining up with the bottom of that house just give it a moment or two for the glue to take and then once that's stuck in place that will allow the little house to stand up I know it's not so easy to see from the overhead view but you know that's all you need and then you can display that on a shelf as I say if you don't want to have these standing on a shelf don't bother with the stand you can just say pop them in a journal make a hole in the top use them as a tag string them like bunting you could indeed put a strip of card be along all of them and just sort of have them like a zig zag book standing up but I just wanted to be able to display mine standing up and this was the simplest way to make a little stand if you want them to be leaning back more then just cut this this bottom bit up at an angle and that will allow it to go back but I want them to be stood fairly upright as I say not too easy to see that from the overhead shot we'll put them on a shelf and take a photograph for you to look at at the end but as always hope you enjoyed this video hope this gave you some ideas of what to do with some of your not-so-good print some of your scrap papers or indeed if you have some prints that you like that are just sitting in a drawer and you want to use them to collage or decorate something then these little houses are a great way of doing that would make a nice gift for a housewarming for somebody you know you can fold this stand flat pop it in an envelope post it to somebody so you know lots of options for what you could do with these once you've made them but as always please leave me a thumbs up if you enjoyed this don't forget to check out the the playlist in the end card at the end and I'll see you again next time bye [Music] can't stay long so now [Applause] industry
