Gates and Headlocks Are Here

hey everybody you're watching eric the 10th generation dairy man sorry that was that was terrible we are about halfway through the milking this morning my dad's taking off he's headed to the mountains for the weekend my uncle's feeding this morning so i got the milk still when it gets hot in the summer the cows are so slow they just don't like the heat come on girls come on fans have been running non-stop this week we got our big ceiling fan going now really moves air up here where the cows are i think they like it we still like to run this fan because it sends more fresh air into the parlor the other one kind of just circulates what's in there [Music] we checked the pre-fresh cows at 4 30 this morning and the 7 33 was just starting put her in this little pen and now she just had the calf oh maybe she was going to need some help but she had it on her own which is the best thing it's a big bull calf so we'll milk here this morning then i'm gonna get the last group over now just this small group we call the special needs pen i'll get this fresh cow out go ahead go ahead [Music] milking is done so i'm gonna go feed heifers and then we'll grab some breakfast that was the telehandler the builders were using i guess they're done with it now it's gonna be picked up today we'll take the good old sidekick down so i'll mix a batch of feed for these heifers i'm glad to come back later today and scrape up this manure now that we got some rain it should be very scrappable just watching the heifers a little bit as the silo is running these fields look great that rain is gonna make that corn shoot up now just had some breakfast eggs and bacon if you were wondering so the other day our 4240 front tire was flat we put this spare on it it's been doing the job but i want to go pick up the good tire at the tire shop so i guess they didn't have the right tire in stock they put a new tube in this one so now we have it on hand in case this one gives us a problem this tractor needs two new front tires i guess i'll just let this one on because it's working and if it gives trouble we can put the other one back on just wanted to check some crops a little bit i sprayed these soybeans last week they're getting a little weedy in some of these fields liberty link soybeans yeah these beans are taking off pretty good now i'm expecting a delivery this morning i'm gonna have to help unload it with the skid loader they're gonna bring our headlocks and gates for the new barn nobody's here working today because they don't have that much to do besides the [Music] gates not much happening here i'm gonna keep an eye out for that delivery and we'll help unload that then i heard some balling up in the pre-fresh pen looks like we got another calf here little heifer it's out of 425 that's one of our better cows i should get it out of this pen we'll have a break in calves and then we'll all come at once this seems to be how it goes notice these pens are getting a little bit messy i'm gonna go get some straw bed these up we got the mom and the headlock there gonna put one red band of tape on her back leg so the milkers know keep her milk out and then i'm also gonna give the cow a pill so after cows have calves sometimes they can lack calcium a little bit in their bloodstream and this is a calcium pill gonna give her it's just gonna slow release some of the body just to help her make that transition into making milk this is a pretty large pill but it's usually not too bad with cows so [Music] so the delivery of our headlocks and gates just showed up so i'm gonna go unload that [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] i got all that metal stuff unloaded it's making me a little nervous just because some of that stuff was pretty heavy and it was uneven ground didn't want to drop any of that break it well now that i got the skid loader all muddy might as well go scrape the heifer farm now tire scrapers there so i don't need to take anything with me so it's been pretty dry lately we're unable to scrape this then yesterday it started raining we had an inch and a half of rain so i'm gonna be able to scrape this all in the pit it flows down into the lagoon there's a pipe underground just gotta open this little lid up there's a three foot diameter pipe down there straight underneath that barn the lagoon pits out there so [Music] [Music] [Music] got the scraping done it's right around noon right now and i'm just mixing another batch of feet so i don't think i'm back down to this farm again [Music] got the skinny cleaned up a little bit the milkers are getting started they're ready for me to bed up pretty soon i'm gonna bed these dolls during the summer the fans are running i like to turn them off so they don't blow as much dust off the beds and down towards the other cows all right guys all i have left to do today is feed the cows so i'll probably wrap this video up now looks like beginning next week they're going to be finishing up the barn so it's going to be a lot of interesting videos coming on after that all right thanks for watching see you guys
