gas or diesel which pickup truck should you buy there is many different ways that we can measure this but what we're going to do is we're going to measure them on an unladen Loop yes let's take them on our Denver 100 ring Highway figure out is it just worth buying a gasoline V8 Superduty or does it make sense to pay more for a diesel and pay a lot more am I right yes yeah so let's find out no no no please go away they just Gees it's okay happy place happy [Music] place I'm driving this new generation 2023 Ford F250 it's a crew cap 4x4 it's an XLT and it has a 7.3 L gasoline Godzilla V8 under the hood it's also has this chin uh which most Super Duties get and it helps with air dynamics and efficiency I also have regular Bridgestone duel at tires so I'm hoping I'm going to be slippery and aerodynamic on this efficiency test and this is the Ford F250 Tremor Platinum with the power stroke but more importantly it's the trem offroader meaning that it doesn't have a chin spoiler for our Dynamics but it does have a very heavy winch it also has giant wheels and tires yeah that means more rolling resistance and greater weight so so they're not exactly Apples to Apples but it's really about what's under the hood and under the hood of this is a 6.7 L diesel that is extremely expensive but extremely [Music] efficient and as always tfl runs on Sinclair yes we do because of din care fuel additives for both gasoline and Diesel and also the app the dinopay app because you can find stations near you with the best deals and save money we have 85 octane which kind of acts like 87 right because we don't have as much air density right and I would rather save money so I'm going to use 85 yeah it's super cheap here we rock which is $289 per gallon and at the end of this video we'll have to calculate is it worth paying $112,500 for your engine based on fuel efficiency you can already see there's a bit of a price difference between Diesel and what's he using yeah 85 oh my God it's nearly a buck difference here we go aren't geese related to dinosaurs they say birds and dinosaurs are related yeah are you well there's a lot of geese over here it's going to be okay Andre as always we wait 30 seconds before we top off we're not going to damage the system by doing this that's why we wait to let it settle down and just make sure it's all even are you still pumping yeah all right I'm topping off there I'm ready to go this thing is just swelling it but it sounds like it's almost there better be I think there's a limit to how much I can put in here financially up I hear itam all right so 30 seconds three two 1 here we go and we're good fired up the engine I'm going to go into eco mode I do have it and I'm going to reset my trip meter just for good measure I just um went into Ecom mode yes I turned the knob and I just too I'm now in eco mode well that must mean our trucks are the most efficient out there right so this is really a highway loop we're using uh highways only and we're only about a/4 mile off the highway now so it's about 111 M of just steady state driving that should be a breeze it's telling me that I have 494 miles of range ouch uh I I'm showing 400 m i can go on my tank yeah yeah yeah I ain't playing full recovery yeah that's good there we go as easy as that we are already getting on the highway we're leaving Boulder Colorado we're going to make an entire Loop using the tollway system here around Denver 111 mil and we're going to be following speed limits so we're not going to average 111 m per hour and try to wrap this whole thing up in 1 hour no we unfortunately we cannot do it legally all right let's talk about about our powertrains uh for just a second and also rear axles uh I have a 7.3 L Godzilla V8 it's the gas engine they introduced about 3 3 and 1 half years ago but it's now been updated a bit to 430 horsepower and 485 pound pound ft of torque that is impressive but nine is far more impressive yeah dude you're rolling with the high output huh yeah now correct me if I'm wrong I put out over 1,000 ftlb of torque am I correct yes do you have to rub it in you have 500 horsepower and 1,200 lbet of torque that's like stupid ridiculous and awesome all rolled into one it's a love burrito for Nathan but then we also have identical Transmissions we both have 10-speeds which are heavy duty and rated for maximum torque but our rear axles are different I've you got a 373 which is pretty good for towing and you have a 355 which I don't like because that's good for efficiency yeah and it works well Offroad too now doesn't it all right well should we put some miles under our belts sounds good quick question why does not my vehicle not have corrective steering it's not doing anything to stay in the lane I can't type on my cell phone and talk to 19 people do a selfie drink eat and drive at the same time without it well at least now Ford is offering blue Cruise hands-free driving on their F-150 lightnings and certain F-150s and also on some of their Lincoln SUVs but heavy duty trucks still don't have it yeah right which is great for a vehicle that cost over $100,000 yeah are you being massaged right now actually I am all right I'm less fancy but still my truck costs $70,000 uh which is you know with options I have a panoramic sunroof I have interesting configuration I have CL seats but I do have a sport package I do have 4x4 and a bunch of other accessories so um 70 grand for my truck and many of our viewers would probably agree with me by saying that's $25,000 too [Music] much [Music] hey dude so we are approaching our halfway point on this wonderful Loop and I was just curious uh what type of uh data MPG are you getting from your truck I'm getting 43 m per gallon what 3 43 oh no my mistake I'm right now averaging 17.7 MPG wow well I'm showing 14.7 so you are already have a really really big Advantage as far as efficiency but we're not done yet and still there's the price of fuel to consider yeah I mean that's kind of the bottom line with this and look we've been preaching for a while that if you're not going to be using a heavyduty truck to do constant Towing and constant hauling then it might be a good idea financially to consider a non- diesel you know one like yours which even with my 3 plus MPG you know lead over you that may not be enough to make Financial sense of this very expensive engine yeah but we also have to bring it into context right we've also done a night Gauntlet we've done a drag race uh we actually uh off-roaded your truck and this truck already as well so if you look at the entire picture you could look at it at old cfl.com and your truck just killed it on the I Gauntlet it was Superior in every way yeah I would say that it it is a noticeable difference when you go to this level but I mean look at the numbers the 12 it's 1,200 pounds of torque right I mean that's insane and so the ability to tow haul and go really fast with this truck that's not really in dispute I think what a lot of people need to figure out especially for those who are trying to save a little bit of money is whether or not it's worth it down the road to buy something like this even though it's more efficient it's you know is it going to sting you in the wallet 5 years from now 10 years from now but the biggest U result we actually need to check is at the fuel pump because these trip meters may not be telling the full truth are you saying occasionally Ford can be a little inaccurate well we've seen it before with their Ranger indeed we have all right well let's get back to our original Point uh Boulder and fill up and check it out I'm remarkably spoiled by driving this truck uh right now I have the seat heater on and the massage is on I'm definitely trying to relax a little bit um this heated steering wheel is on too not that I even need it it's just it feels nice at hand the leather in the steering wheel is some of the best I've felt in a steering wheel ever although the seats in the Ford I mean they're better than some but like I think that Ram is more comfortable so anyway yeah all in all this is um a very pleasant Driving Experience and by the time I get back to the fuel pump I may collapse just because I'm so comfortable and so chill and so mellow that is one of the attributes of driving one of these there is one attribute or detractor to driving heavy duty trucks all the time that is that they have a relatively tight suspension as they need to haul heavy things as such if you're going over certain ter parts of the freeway see if I can wait wait for it I see a little Sil of a man you do theing go it's not as good as it could be it was bouncier earlier and I was really ripping it I mean Freddy Mercury would have been [Music] thrilled [Music] looks like a Ferrari W dude wao that's a pretty spicy Ferrari in there somebody got that was a Ferrari dude somebody got a little bit uh too ahead of themselves my fingers are crossed that it was ouch and then there's a Tesla left over from a snowstorm yeah uh those tire tracks look fairly fresh though maybe he's trying to BL and pull back on or something or maybe he knows the guy in the Ferrari well that was a pretty smooth run I mean basically no traffic nice weather we were running side by side nice Loop yeah yeah it was a breeze there was a little bit of traffic and then the you know the highway speeds dropped down considerably but the only thing that did was help my fuel mileage I don't even want to ask what you're at right now I am I'll tell you mine how about that I'm at 16.5 and we're approaching our 11 M route yeah mine is a lot better than that and um I think it might be stunned well be stunned at the fuel pump we shall see my friend we shall see oh no the geese are back they're still there okay Andre say it with me there are no geese just breathe in breathe out all right dude so for correctness we have to pull up at the same stations we're going to use the same pumps and then figure out the amount of money we've spent and see how you know the $122,500 premium for your engine how that factors in [Music] all right it's time to find out what this Loop was all about let's see how much fuel I used and how many dollars I must spend do you have your uh trusty watch I do indeed 5 4 3 2 1 okay so that is I use 6689 Gall and I had to pay $19.39 almost 20 bucks all right dude so we went 111 Mi that's the loop standard divide by 6689 equals ooh 16.6 actually my truck was almost spot on well that's something that's really nice and it's not terrible economy considering this thing has the profile of a brick and a big non-turbocharged big lump of an engine too yeah and all those extra drags so not bad let's fill you up yeah Nathan I have to tell I hate to tell you this but the geese are coming you're the one who has the issue with the geese I love they're they're right there what's up bro see look they're totally hit my fuel is coming in at $3 and 799 yeah yours was $ 2899 so that's already a big difference yeah that but of course that's Regional right so you can do national average fuel rates and calculate your own it's way cheaper here than most States but if you spend oh wait wait wait oh no Nathan I spent just under 20 bucks yeah but look how many gallons I used not a lot yeah both of our fuel tanks are the the same Val volume so both are 34 Gall yeah but mine's cooler well yeah I mean if you have better MPG you can go much further than me well that's exactly the point all right 4 three here we go okay wow that's a big difference 5. 661 Gall 21 and a half dollar 111 Mi IDE by 5.66 1 right yep okay so you have 19.6 so the truck's said 19.8 ah so you're also pretty close actually these trucks are getting very very precise I think they uh they fixed whatever glitch they had but more importantly that is significantly better than yours yes and also you had the larger tires the 35s you had you know more weight oh well yeah I mean I got a winch for for crying out loud and armor you also have leather massaging seats yeah they are massaging it was pretty good so I think that's impressive for this trammer truck yeah but unfortunately you spent more than me on fuel yeah yeah so the answer is clear get the gas engine right that's we don't even have to really calculate that part look if you're not serious about hauling all the time or more importantly Towing all the time or actually driving a lot of miles exactly because like if you're driving about over 25,000 m a year maybe even more miles I think diesel makes more sense especially if you're towing yeah but if you're not driving a lot the gas yeah and these new gas ones are getting more and more efficient even for these giant trucks so there you go you got it from him thanks and of course you can check out ot.com for everything out of motive in one place see [Music] you
